  • Installing European-spec glass headlamps on my 1987 300D
These parts fit all 1986 - 1993 W124... the 1994 and 1995 model years have a different hood and headlamps (and they come with glass ones stock). These are new old stock Automotive Lighting (partnership w/ Bosch and Magneti Marelli) that I got from a seller on eBay called "Cars245" and the cost was roughly $600 USD shipped.
    Some handy part numbers:
124-826-05-80 and 124-826-06-80: these are the rubber gaskets that go under each headlamp. One part is left, one part is right.
124-826-01-00: headlamp refresh kit (mounting hardware). You'll need two of these.
011-545-50-28: these are the plastic plugs that you need for a 6 pin connection. You'll need two of these.
I ran into some issues which are more specific for my car, which you'll see in the video. First, I had some questionable wiring. I got that fixed and second, I had a problem fitting the left turn signal (and broke part of the lens, whoops).
Overall, I'm happy with how this turned out. It's important to have good lighting for safety and what I had before was just broken and weak. The US spec headlamps for Mercedes-Benz in the 80's and early 90's are a joke, in my opinion.

Can you use the US bulbs inside of the euro headlights or do you have to get different bulbs

I just found your channel and subscribed. You put out some good videos.. very informative. you care to sell a right side headlight wiper. What did the euro lights cost. Like to change mine. Led headlight bulbs were big help.
The best improvement I have made to my car is removing the clutch fan and replacing it with 2 12 inch electric fans and a davies craig digital fan controller . Now my car runs cooler with ac on than it did with ac off and factory fan. Plus you can feel the difference in power. I was surprised how much drag the fan puts on the motor. 120 amp alternator conversion was big improvement. I try to keep my car all original but didn't like it running over 90c with ac. On 100 deg days.

Very cool, thanks for subbing! 😁
I know the videos could be better on the "how to" front - I mostly go by shop procedures (in the physical books (or online at w124performance.com/service/Main.html)
The euro headlamps were $611 USD shipped to me (new condition, from Latvia). I got them on eBay and I think they're worth every cent. Massive improvement with visibility - and they look great too.
Arizona gets brutally hot - up to 120 degrees. The car seems like staying around 80c - 85c though, even when driving a lot. I wonder if I have a lower temp thermostat? Will have to check that out. Thanks for the heads up on the fans too - will look into that

@@bsclifton i have the original 80c thermostat. The fans i used were 12inch mishimoto fans.
The controller is the davies craig digital controller with temp sensor. When it gets to temp fan 1 comes on then fan 2. If you connect ac mode fans come on with ac. My car runs much cooler now and the first time you drive it you can feel the difference. Original fan puts allot of drag on motor. Especially with ac on. Hope it helps you.
