Hey Lora, I find the idea or repurposing quilts is amazing. Some would just put it in the garbage, but there are so many things to do with them. The projects you decided to use them for are great and I hope many people take the time and effort to do the same.
Hello Lora, when you spoke about that tool the other day on one of your flosstube, I whent right to Amazon Canada and purchased one. This is the best tool I have seen and thanks to you I am so happy to have one myself. Turning shapes does not make me crazy anymore. Thank you so much for amazing tips and tricks. See you tomorrow for another sew along.
I repurpose well loved quilts too. I made mini quilts for my grandaughters doll beds & sleeping bags out of one for their American Girl dolls. They loved them.
You go! I’m all for repurposing items that would otherwise mot be used. I started watching you not long ago when you made a donation quilt from vintage pillowcases. So you gained me from repurposing vintage items! Lovely work!
Thank you for the video! I love the idea of giving vintage quilts and embroidery pieces a new life. I have been given many that were made by relatives. I am looking forward to your videos on what you will make.
Thank you for showing other ways to repurpose a well-loved quilt. I recently inherited several old aprons from my husband's mom's side of the family. Beautiful, old-fashioned aprons; some with simple embroidered "x's" on them, but I don't need 20 aprons. Family members took the ones they wanted and the ones that were left I'm giving those aprons new life by turning them into trivets/potholders, etc; items we can use. It was hard to make the first cut, but believe in my heart grandma and great-grandmas would be happy they were still getting used.
I totally agree! I have some aprons from my grandmas, too. You should check out the pillowcase and tea towel quilts I did. You could totally use that idea for aprons. :) You can find them on this playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLGgote1a3SGTRbzzICKxTJnJo35Lk95H8.html
I have a hand-stitched hexagon quilt that my grandma made in the late 1800's, and besides the borders being pretty trashed the fabric is worn in a lot of places. I've never known what I could do with it but didn't want to throw it out, so THANKYOU for giving me the idea to cut it up and create something that I can pass on to my daughters and granddaughter.
Oh wow.. that quilt is a treasure. I might have a hard time cutting it up, but it is a better option than hiding it away. You could frame a few pieces, too, for art
I don't make comments often, but I am looking forward to what you will do with this wonderful quilt so t can be used again.. My sister had a quilt from my grandmother that wa getting tattered from all the use she gave it. It was a butterfly quilt so she cut out the butterflies in the shape of the front and back of a doll and then used a butterfly to put wings on them. Each of use kids got one and I treasure it as it reminds me of my grandmother and my sister.
The maker of this quilt is so happy that it is getting repurposed! I am one of those vintage lovers that doesn’t believe in hiding linens or quilts in closets or drawers. Cut them up and make beautiful things. They should be shown❤️ just my opinion
I agree! I do feel there are some items that should be preserved, but many quilts can be loved all over again as something new. It's like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly. :)
It’s a short soft jacket to keep you warm when sitting in bed at night. Reading a book, watching tv. I wear them just to keep warm in the winter around the house. 💕
Hi there, fabulous idea to save something from going to landfill ! Could also make table mats, tea cosies, quilted hangar covers, and bedsocks type slippers by putting a ribbing cuff around the ankle ! They would be toasty and warm.
I love vintage quilts - (basically all vintage linens) and actually bought many “cutter” quilts from eBay, goodwill, etc. to repurpose. I would rather showcase the beautiful handwork that is available- vs these pieces of art going to the dump or becoming an extra blanket for outdoor dogs. On the linens - I have made several quilts where I was able to incorporate beautiful doilies and pieces of embroidered linens as part of different blocks. They are my fav quilts!! Thank you for sharing!! Great ideas!
I actually love what you are doing, giving a worn quilt a new life😊. I also think using the stained, worn pieces give character to any new project you choose to make. When you gift a quilt to someone you have to “let it go”; I only hope I don’t find a baby quilt that I have worked so hard on in the local Goodwill, lol (if so maybe it will be loved by someone else).
Thanks for the ideas. I have two vintage quilts, one a wedding gift from my husband’s grandmother that I have wanted to repurpose but was unsure what time do with it. Will look at it with fresh eyes. Hate having it lying folded in the cedar chest when it could bring joy and purpose to others.
Oh.. not sure if you have kids, grandkids, or other relatives that may treasure items from it.. but what an amazing opportunity to spread a treasure to many.
It's much better to repurpose a quilt than to throw it in a dumpster, Actually, I have been watching for a quilt that could be repurposed into a stuffed bear. Love the idea of project bags as well. Coasters can easily be cut away from the damaged areas. Pillows would be something else that could be made from a worn quilt. I think it would be fun to make some repurposed things for my quilting friends. Can't wait to see your finished products!

Awesome! Thank you! I do have several projects planned for that topic... stay tuned
I totally agree with you on repurposing that quilt. It was obviously loved and used as a quilt and now it has a new life in several ways!
Yes. The projects lined out are going to give it a 2nd life

Thanks for watching.
They were once loved and appreciated, and they will again in a new way.
Absolutely. Thanks for watching
I also look for tattered old chenille bedspreads and add the good parts in a new quilt.
What a cool idea. Chenille is a texture adventure!

I like your ideas for repurposing an old quilt. They were originally meant for reusing scraps of fabric! You’re giving new life to it!
Very very true... some of my favorite quilts are made from scraps of clothing... oh, the stories that fabric could tell.
I think you have great ideas to repurpose the quilt. I would have tried to make a bed jacket with it. 💕
Thank you. I'll have to google what that is... sounds interesting.

Love the idea. I have been looking for one and have been able to find one. You go girl can’t wait to see all the fun stuff out of this.
Thanks so much 😊

Thank you so much for watching. So glad to know I'm not the only one thinking of ways to keep these pieces of art out of the dump. Have a great day.
These ideas were amazing thank you
Glad you like them!
