Isn’t this a Singer 15? I believe you can drop the feed dogs on this machine via the knurled screw underneath to the front of the feed dogs. Turn it counterclockwise. May need a bit of oil if it hasn’t been used anytime recently. The vests are awesome and inspiring! Just love all your detailed work! The dark green is my favorite! Completely disagree that it is boring!

Thank you! I do like to take my time, both with sewing and with making videos. I filmed wayy too much footage for this one though, and it was such a slog to go through it and cut down the clips. I'm blown away by the quality of your work, the patience you have to do it and the final result is amazing. The dark green is actually my favourite because of the detail that you only see up close, but they are all exquisite.
I love all three, but my top favorite is the second one I love the quilted circle details. the third one gave me flashbacks of an old illustration book back in highschool I saw a fairy type creature wearing a leaf vest with a walnut helmet hat.

I feel that for completion you might need a fourth leaf, to represent winter. I challenge you to do it out of lace, to even more resemble the leaf that you showed when you were explaining the honeycomb stitch. It is basically a needle lace, so you just need to learn another craft, no biggie ;) But I think it would be wonderful to have a 4 seasons be represented in that way

I am in love with the 2nd vest; I never wanted to wear a leaf vest before now. Weird, I know. I do appreciate dark on dark patterns and would personally leave it as is but if you want more contrast in order to love it I'd suggest lightly gilding it with a dry brush of gold fabric paint, highlighting the more voluminous areas rather than the veins. 3 very different garments, each a beauty in itself! The detail stunning. Lovely music to accompany it. Hoping for another video of a beautifully made garment soon ❤❤
After a lovely but very chaotic Christmas and new year this was the absolute best video to find in my feed 😊 exactly the kind of relaxing and peaceful while still engaging and informative content I needed! Thank you ❤ I love how these turned out, and I agree that the brown one is the best, though I think you’re being your own harshest critic on the second one. There’s a difference between boring and subtlety, and I think you mastered falling on the right side of that line as it’s absolutely stunning 😍
The dark one is beautiful! It's the kind of thing you see from afar and appreciate the shape, then get close and find out how beautiful and intricate it is!! It's not as showy for online but I'm sure anyone who sees you in person will admire it greatly
These are AMAZING. The funny thing is, though, that my main personal takeaway from this video is "Oh! Scotch tape can be drawn on!" I'm used to regular plastic tape which is the usual thing in my neck of the woods, and watching you I had this lightbulb regarding the utility of this other kind...
Yeah, we used scotch tape in pattern drafting class at school, pencil shows up really well on it! Pen, not so much, it gets very smudgy unless it's permanent ink and not touched until it's dry.
Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Gorgeous! Pieces. Your attention to detail, the craftsmanship and artistic eye inspire me to put more love and care into my own pieces. You are AMAZING.
I was RAPT and in delight for this entire video. Ummm such good sewing and I learned a lot. Now I want to play with quilting and embroidery on garment fabric. You always inspire!
Your videos so inspiring to watch. You are a true craftsman. I sew, but no where near your level. I wish all a happy new year and hope you will have love and joy in your lives for many years to come. Kindness doesn’t cost anything and we need love and unity - now more than ever.
What lovely, meditative work! I love the brown one with the blue shirt- like the bright blue skies of autumn with the fallen leaves. The beaded slime mold details make such a work of art. ❤
These are just beyond stunning! The amount of care and effort put into all three is just phenomenal. You look just like a little fairy! Very, very well done Vincent!
Whoa. Thank you for the link to the RSN stitch bank. this is wonderful. I love all the vests but the embroidered fall is also my fave. Inside out the summer vest becomes the Winter skeleton leaf.
an hour and 20 minutes of one of my fav sewing youtubers, what a treat! the green quilted one is just about the most gorgeous texture in creation and I love the cording, I'd never seen it done like that!! the honeycomb blanket stitch on the brown one is wonderful as well, my favourite part is the big empty circle in the middle of one of those patches :D negative space is the best and you've used it well! insert that spongebob meme here. I need it. I NEEEEEED ITTTTT! also a note about wobbly vein lines-- I've made a few leafkerchiefs to give to my friends and have found they actually look really nice when freehanded and uneven. different aesthetics, I suppose, but there's no reason to be afraid of it. all in all, incredible work as always!
Absolutely superb.Detail ,camerawork ,informative ,plus we get to see three completed garments for the finale. I always love your work, your ideas and stamina ,this was outstanding .Thankyou so much ,I am now going to watch it again ,there is so much detail to absorb.
Wow great video, you really out done yourself here, those vest came out beautiful. Im no stranger to sewing, and I do have a few vintage machines myself, so what I would do for the machine is you can go to the machine motor and where the graphite brushes are (usually covered by a plastic screw cover) take out the brushes (one at a time) and pull on or elongate the springs a bit, this will make them contact the motors stator and should fix you speed issues, those brushes create the conductivity for the motor and petal, and since your replaced you petal and are still having issues with speed, this should help, now for the powdering the pattern, in the past tailors used to use talcum powder or corn starch filled muslin bags and powder the surface of the pattern, this is a much cheaper way of doing that. Take care and looking forward to more video.
Thank you, I might perhaps try that sometime! I'll wait till I have a backup machine though, as I still have not got my Pfaff 360 back to working order.
@@vincentbriggs1780 Ok, its always good to plan ahead, but tinkering with the brushes wont mess up the machine itself, but rather hinder just the motor until new brushes are put in place, but its better to be safe then sorry. You should do a video showing you pfaff, maybe use viewers can give you pointers on what could be wrong, like I said in my comment, Im no stranger to vintage machines, (I own about 3 singer clones, and 1 Taiwanese singer clone) and Im sure other viewers maybe as well and could help.
"If silly string had a larval stage" - fucking amazing! absolutely delighted by these, love how long and thorough and detailed you are with everything, including these videos. Its truly inspiring and makes me feel like I can do it too!
Your work is so charming, and I love your narration. I'm so happy that you've found a little niche for yourself here on the internet where you get to be unabashedly you!
I love all three boleros. I love the dense texture on the dark green one, but adding something that will contrast might make it look more leafy from a distance. The brown one is to die for! I particularly appreciate that you include all your troubleshooting. Glass blowers have a saying: "It's not about what you can make but what you can fix."
Hi I've made some quilted skirts and have made a quilted fabric and then cut the pattern out of the already quilted layers. It's accurate because different fabric ,batting and quilting stiches can distort the original shape in different ways and directions. It's more precise for clothing. I love the leaf vest idea il make a test run for my son. Little clothes are a good mock up too
The brown one is SO COOL!! LOVE that honeycomb stitch! Seems like the kind of project you could just keep picking up and adding to anytime your hands are bored. Love it love it 🍂🍂🍂
Each time I am blessed to watch one of your videos, I learn.. learn.. learn. I am also filled with desire to make my own. Sadly, there simply are not enough hours in the day. Thank you for sharing your brilliance and exacting attention to detail. You are a treasure chest of ideas and teaching. Thank you.
I'm on the verge of tears because of the beauty that you have brought into the world with these pieces! Although the dark green doesn't show all of your efforts at a distance, it is so incredibly rich up close 🤍 Thank you for sharing this!
This was incredible! You could dye the lining of the dark green one to a more leafy color so that you could get that side to work. The quilting and cording is so beautiful. The brown one is so amazing!
This is fascinating and you're enchanting. I saw your headkerchief video a while back and then couldn't find you again. Now that I have I simply cannot leaf.
Oh My God, Vincent! I absolutely adore the design! You have made lovely pieces along the years, but this... The brown one especially! I'm not above confessing I might "steal" the idea! :P
Your videos so inspiring to watch. You are a true craftsman, all the leaf boleros turned out beautifully - my favorite it the dark green and the quilting is so well done - I’d wear it inside out just to show off the quilting 😅.. I sew, but no where near your level, I would love having your patience though 😊 I would love if more people learned how to sew basic clothes, so we could avoid fast fashion and all the problems it creates. Imagine people wearing sustainable clothes made by themselves or a family member! I wish all a happy new year and hope you will have love and joy in your lives for many years to come. Kindness doesn’t cost anything and we need love and unity - now more than ever.
oh my goodness, oh my heavens, these are amazing! I thought it would be impossible to top the marvel that is the dark green vest, but you by golly managed it! You are such a talented artist, it's no wonder these are so glorious! Thank you for sharing your work with us; I hope you had a good holiday season, and I wish you health, safety, prosperity and joy in 2025.
The brown one is definitely also my favorite. The colors and the textures are just *chef's kiss. But the dark green one is awesome too, I love the quilted texture even though it's a bit more subtle
Beautiful work on all of them. Going from simple to more complicated and increasing the number techniques used was very instructive. With some structuring it could also work for insect wings. Thanks and many blessings for 2025.
As soon as I saw the thumbnail, I had to click on it, I love this type of clothing so much ! But I realize I love your style in general, I'm subcribed for a while and still haven't watched a lot of your videos because *time* and I really should. Next channel to binge soon 😊
I love watching your process of iteration and design. The proof of concept looks great, the dark green is well made and adds some good details that just dont pop with the colors, and the brown is just an absolute stunner ❤
I find your voice and the way you explain your work, very soothing and informative. I am also very impressed, with your skill. Happy New Year from Denmark in Scandinavia.
This video just pop up in suggested videos for me and for this I am grateful. Your voice is so calming and paired with watching you creat is a soothing experince. Thank you so much and I look forward to seeing more of your work. ❤❤❤
Absolutely lovely! The pattern is so versatile! I love the surrated edges! They all have such nice silhouette! I've seen quilters use gardening gloves with grippy coating (or actual quilting gloves that do the same) so they don't have to grip the fabric. The second one has such cool texture! Maybe you can overdye it so the lining is a leafy green? For the side lacing, I learned that macrame cording is quite nice for decorative lacing. (Gunne sax re-creation sewers use 2 or 3mm macrame cording.) The dead leaf texture is epic!
30secs in, the way he explained how his mond came to the pattern for the leaf bolero is so damn relatable i subscribed immediately and sent this video to my squires. i know at least 2 of them will squee and 1 may immediately begin her own version.
Tracing wheels look like miniature torture devices and they always give me the vibe of, again, do not fvck with a sewer with their tools. Also, I adore this idea, and the final result (and your gorgeous machine). The folding of the edges and the very neat hand stitches is so satisfying to watch. I'm currently working on making myself comfortable vests that are bust supporting, which is a whole big thing, and now I want one that's leaf themed, and I've already got a vine and at least one flower themed one planned.
I am so excited to make my own leaf bolero! Last year I made leafkerchiefs for two dear friends as christmas gifts. This year I've been working on 18th century shirts, following your instructions, for the same two friends (as well as myself). I'm sure you can guess what I'll be making everyone for xmas a year from now lol. Thanks to your extremely thorough and meticulous tutorials, I have the confidence to tackle projects like this myself. I am so appreciative for your knowledge that you generously share with the internet, and so impressed by your skills. Thank you Vincent!
Me halfway through: how could Vincent possibly top this gorgeous green quilting? Oh, by adding beaded slime mold decoration! Of course. Stunning and mesmerizing. As usual. Thank you for sharing your creations
These are so pretty. I really appreciate how relaxing the videography, music, and movement of your videos are. Awesome job. I’d love to make a leaf vest!
Simply fabulous sewing. Loved everything that you did. I agree that the honeycomb blanket stitch could have been a little less regular to imply the distortion of the cell structure as it rots, but that is actually very hard to do when one is very meticulous, so don't be too critical of yourself. And yes, the skipped machine stitches is usually related to the quality of the thread... You are fabulous x
I will save watching the making of the last vest for tomorrow since it already is kind of late here in Germany. But oh my!! The quiltet leaf vest including the cording (or trapunto I would assume) is just stunning. I'm always blown away by your attention to detail and your impeckable workmanship and skills! And it's so relaxing to watch your videos. Just love them and all of your attitude. As a quilter: heads off to your very first quilting!! ❤ Ok, finished the video now and the brown leaf is just stunning as well. Regarding bastig spray: there are different products and it should say "washabke" on the can. they are out there for sure. But I switched to making my own basting spray with flour, water and vodka (or any other strong alcohole with little smell for preservation). There are recipies out there (just look for "stringandstory" and homemade basting spray, she has a great tutorial). And you must let it dry completely before starting the quilting and you need a good spray bottle. Maybe you will give it a try :) And washing after you finished the quilting is mandatory as well since otherwise it can attract bugs (and not the cute ones).
When I sew my batting together to make larger batting I use the - running zig zag stitch. A tip my quilting teacher bestowed on us, Just a helpful hit on getting zero bulk. 🇨🇦
Thank you! I might have tried that if I had a machine that could do zig zag, but my Singer 15-91 is straight stitch only. (My Pfaff 360 *will* be able to do zig zag once I fix it, but alas, the insides are currently gummed up and there's one really stuck bit that I'm going to have to take apart to clean.)
You sew beautifully. But you sound like my husband critiquing his baking. All I can think is 'shush!' I am drooling and enjoying how beautiful it is. Oh, its soooo delish! I am swooning at the beauty and imagination of these boleros. I will agree with your critiques later, much later.
Thank you!! But critiquing my work is the only way to improve it! If I hadn't seen any faults in my old work for years and years I never would have gotten this good in the first place.
@@vincentbriggs1780 I completely understand that your art does not progress without critique, in fact that's what drives one forward. BUT if you have achieved something, please remember to observe a mandatory period of basking in the warm glow of your achievement like a lizard on a stone, lest you teach your brain that effort is futile, because it didn't get to enjoy its happy chemicals I recommend, like, 5% of basking time in relation to whatever time you invested into achieving the thing minimum. And if you can't make your own bask, friend-brought is fine (= tell your friends or that can be viewers). And also when you look so darn good in your outfits, I want to be able to ooh and aah as is justly deserved. You can bring up your critique points on this project in relation in the next one. insert that spongebob meme here.
Whoa! Your artistry is just mindblowing!! 😍
Simply amazing. The time snd patience you have to do these things is incredible. Well done!
Although the dark green doesn't show all of your efforts at a distance, it is so incredibly rich up close 🤍
Thank you for sharing this!
This was incredible!
You could dye the lining of the dark green one to a more leafy color so that you could get that side to work. The quilting and cording is so beautiful.
The brown one is so amazing!
As a quilter I must say, amazing work with that machine
I should also dive into clothes making.... 😮
I am always so happy to see a new upload from you!! Excited to watch you make some big torso leaves as I knit a cowl for my friend :)
Thank you! Hey, it's not stealing an idea if I want more people to make them!!
I love the idea and the execution. I appreciate that you have shown that the same idea can be done in many different ways. So inspiring!
Your videos so inspiring to watch. You are a true craftsman, all the leaf boleros turned out beautifully - my favorite it the dark green and the quilting is so well done - I’d wear it inside out just to show off the quilting 😅.. I sew, but no where near your level, I would love having your patience though 😊
I would love if more people learned how to sew basic clothes, so we could avoid fast fashion and all the problems it creates.
The stitch bank is great! 🎉 Thank you for sharing,! 🙌
The brown one is really a beautiful one! The colors of the embroidery, the row of pearls, it is gorgeous!
They all look great and I really do like the second one turned inside-out, even if it's not "leafy" colored!
I really enjoy your particular attention, too doing thing neatly and intricately detailed . Chefs kiss of work.
Thank you sir. This gives so many ideas. Your videos are so inspiring. Happy New Year to you and yours. 🎉💚
Beautiful work on all of them. Going from simple to more complicated and increasing the number techniques used was very instructive.
With some structuring it could also work for insect wings.
Thanks and many blessings for 2025.
oh my god some embroidered organza or something would make gorgeous translucent insect wings
The little circles on the dark green one are mesmerizing! 🌿🍂
Holy fuck dude. The craft. The mastery. The patience.
I love these so much! They're so intricate! And they really do look like leaves. 😮❤
Yes! More leaves! This is the content we signed up for!
(Gunne sax re-creation sewers use 2 or 3mm macrame cording.)
The dead leaf texture is epic!
wow these are all so amazing! i love your videos. I especially liked seeing how you styled them at the end. Thank you so much!
"quilting is a batting sandwich". yes good, perfect description to help remember the difference, thanks :)
The dark green bolero is really nice flipped inside out!! It reminds me of leaves with the chlorophyll removed, which looks pretty cool 😊
Yay! I'm so glad my instructions were helpful, and that you'll be making some Big Leaves!
Ok, finished the video now and the brown leaf is just stunning as well.
Maybe you will give it a try :)
And washing after you finished the quilting is mandatory as well since otherwise it can attract bugs (and not the cute ones).
They really are exquisite. Now you need a nice beaded beetle brooch to sit on the leaves.
I do! I love those ones The Closet Historian makes, but haven't gotten around to making any of yet.
Loved this! I liked the brown one the best. They were all beautiful
When I sew my batting together to make larger batting I use the - running zig zag stitch. A tip my quilting teacher bestowed on us, Just a helpful hit on getting zero bulk. 🇨🇦
And I applaud your ability to do your vest inside out first. I'd have quilted the whole project and added binding.
Seriously lovely vests. Perfection.
I want to watch this so much ....I have guests arriving in moments 😢 .Will hold my patience and veiw it in comfort .
Beautiful work, love the selection of colours and embroidery, thank you for sharing your work with us. ❤
Your attention to detail astounds me
The quilted one the second one you did inside out, makes it look like reptile skin or dragon skin
BUT if you have achieved something, please remember to observe a
mandatory period of basking in the warm glow of your achievement
like a lizard on a stone, lest you teach your brain that effort is futile, because it didn't get to enjoy its happy chemicals I recommend, like, 5% of basking time in relation to whatever time you invested into achieving the thing minimum. And if you can't make your
own bask, friend-brought is fine (= tell your friends or that can be viewers).
And also when you look so darn good in your outfits, I want to be able to ooh and aah as is justly deserved.
You can bring up your critique points on this project in relation in the next one. Or make it your top comment. LET ME LOVE YOU PROJECT!!
