One of my main issues is that Lex really should've used mid-sized legs, she should be taller then her brother as she is older so it is really weird to have them the same size, the 2015 LEGO Jurassic World game used full size legs for her.
This iconic building deserved a big “master builder” style set, like the Star Wars Cantina. 3:38 now that they’ve modeled a Lego Parasaurolophus design for this print, I hope they release it as a full figure (my favorite dinosaur).
If those paper bags are waxed, they aren't recyclable. Although I like the idea of reducing plastic waste as much as possible, these paper bags kind of feel like a hollow gesture considering the company specializes mostly in plastic and rubber products. Hollow or not, at least the gesture does do some good in reducing the plastic waste and the paper bags are at least biodegradable if not recyclable. Thanks for the review.
Here’s how to do big stickers like that - cut them out with scissors, leaving the backing on. Then just a tiny strip off the backing on one edge. Then you can just use that strip to line it up perfectly while handling it by the part that still has backing, and when it’s in place, peel/roll the rest of the backing off while pushing it down.
I am looking forward to the bag video! Like- what do you mean, "lined with plastic"? Isn't a fixed combination of different materials even worse than a singular material (because separation of the two can be difficult and/or expensive)? Is Lego still going to transition to full paper? Because if they don't, I am not sure if this development is as significant as they make it out to be. Edit: I read up on that. Yes, they are lined with plastic, yes, apparently, they are intended to stay that way. I am, quite frankly, a bit shocked. Sure, less plastic, but they still need to go into the regular plastic packaging recycling, at least in my country. They also pose a higher risk of being put into cardboard or paper recycling and contaminating those processes because people may *think* they are recyclable. I strongly support the intent and general direction, but the execution seems a bit odd to me.
They go into plastic recycling for you? There isn't too much paper fiber content for that? You're definitely right, many, many people are going to toss these into paper recycling, and material sorting plants are going to process them as paper as well, resulting in lower quality product, increased machine wear, damage, & clogging, higher costs to the process, lower efficiency, and a net reduction in effectiveness of recycling programs. Recycling is already in such horrid shape in so many countries, with so much material going to landfill due to confusion & lack of education, mostly from manufacturers to consumers. Moves like this only make that problem worse.
@@JANGsLEGOreviews Thanks for the heads-up, I checked this so I wouldn't spread misinformation: Yes, in my country (germany) so called "composite packaging" (packaging made of different, but bonded layers) would go into the "yellow bag", which is otherwise reserved for plastic packaging. This mainly applies to milk and juice cartons, but would likely also apply here. Again, I fully support the general move, but I have to wonder if that thin layer was really needed. I'd love to see you touch up on that. I am sure they've done a lot of testing on their new solution, but- errngh.
@@JANGsLEGOreviews Very sad to see these new packaging. I was really looking forward to this, but now, I'm not so sure. You've said it all in your message above about the implications. It took at least 2 years for Lego to come up with this? Come on. In my country, they banned all single use plastic bags in groceries in favor of reusable (still plastic) bags and we the population adjusted. It's time for our gov to step in and expand this policy.
@@That0neJawn Isn't it possible to tear of the plastic lining from the paper? Further: it is a European directive to consider composite packaging as being "plastics".
I am genuinely so annoyed by this! I have been really looking forward to lego moving away from non-recyclable plastic packaging (because the old bags weren't the type of plastic that is recyclable. At least in the UK) in favour of paper and cardboard which is easy to recycle! The fact that they have put all this time, effort and money into a change and campaign but have actually done that is rediculous to me! I'm all for the reduction but this isn't what I feel like was being promised in the way the adverts and articles had presented.
love the commentary on the accuracy of the dino’s 😂 always appreciate someone who can toe the line of both acknowledging realism and scientific progress AND that older designs do have their rightful place in our culture.
Really it needed the kitchen, so a couple of extra walls, one with a bit of kitchen and one maybe with the theater where they saw the Mr. DNA movie would've been good.
I got the previous Velociraptor Attack set that had the kitchen, control room, and embryo chamber to combine with this Visitor Center set for that very reason.
Kinda underwhelming set tbh for 30th anniversary :/ also they really should include additional stickers instead of having us reach out for replacements
Lego just isnt a toy line anymore its a collectors item company that sometimes maybe makes an affordable toy that is still overpriced with either huge pieces that only inflate the price even more or some low quality sets that dont include anything actually interesting no one is buying a 120$ set, no one is playing with it, no one is using it it will either go to a collector's shelf, a box to never be seen again, unoped for reselling or each piece going to random bricklink posts
It's not even funny how inaccurate this is. Collectors make up a small percentage of Lego sales, and this isn't even a set targeted at that market, like many other sets are. This is a toy, and countless kids will be playing with this soon.
cant believe the indominus rex from the original jurassic world line is the same price as this one. So much more stuff going on with that one. This one needed more content
I loved this review, especially the caution for the stickers. I’m now thinking of buying this, since the dinosaurs actually look great. But yeah I wish the back area was more closed off as you mentioned
9:33 oh wow, I didn't even realize those were supposed to be shorts on that minifig, and I own & have assembled this set! Also, I was luckily able to find the set on eBay for about $100, which is a more reasonable price but still a bit too high I feel.
I'm looking forward to this. I'm definitely going to split this off into 2 or 3 separate builds. Maybe the front of the visitor center, the inside final fight and maybe the kitchen (combined with the 25th anniversary set and some extra pieces). I'll be waiting until the price goes down though. I hope we get reviews of all the Jurassic Park sets from Jang
Regarding the blue pin, could they not include those little 1x1 round with the rod or even the 1x1 rubber foot to cover over the pin hole? Then you could still have the traction AND not see the blue.
I've seen them use the dark gray 3L that's 2 friction pin, 1L axle in a similar situation in other sets, it'd probably look better than blue here as well.
While I certainly don't want LEGO to make even more huge expensive sets, this kinda screams of wanting to be a much bigger set. This is so barebones, and still it costs so much that it's really not even worth considering buying. A $250 set with double, triple the pieces would've done this more justice.
Wow, they packed a lot more into this set than I was expecting having only seen the set from the front. The vinyl banner is a totally unexpected inclusion and spices the compact interior up nicely. I could have done without the scars on the T-rex. It's appropriate for the scene it's depicting, but for many people, this will undoubtedly be their first Lego T-rex and a standard color scheme would have been better.
In a set this size and how much it is they could have had both the black and blue three long technic pin for the skeleton. It is a single extra piece that allows the consumer to choose the finish of the model.
That skeleton looks good but it is missing the Alamosaurus juvenile, but this is more of a facade than the VC and, the Tex and Raptor molds should be paid by now.
I feel like, for this set, expand on the visitor's center some more, as another comment said, something like the Master Builder Cantina, add another raptor, and give Lex mid size legs also as another comment said, she should definitely be taller than her brother.
Great review. To me, the outside looks ok, but the inside of the center section should be much taller if you want to recreate the battle between the T-rex and the raptor. Is there a way to add the previous set with kitchen/computer room?
All these angled sets we are getting for a while now seem like a rip-off. Looks like a big structure from one specific angle for the main product pic, but instead of what we could reasonably expect from a playset - 3 walls, roof and an open back to have access to play - we just get slightly more than 1 wall and are subpposed to play on the empty carpet in our rooms and have the wall as a backdrop.
i don’t think i have ever threw out the plastic bags. i just stuff them in the box with the extra pieces and store them in my closet. it’s nice to see lego finally starting to switch to paper bags.
Can’t believe no one has talked about how the new Rex has different colored teeth. Really really really bugs me. Anyone know what color the top row are? Looks cream colored to me.
I'm torn on this set. I really like the exterior of the visitor's center, but the interior is meh. I think I'm going to wait until this goes on a big sale. Thanks as always for the review
The Jurrasic Park sets are always very expensive in the UK and I won't be paying £115 for this but I can definitely see it being an OK purchase for £100. Ideally this would have been about £85-£90 but I might get it if I see it on offer for £100. Which by LEGO standards these days is pretty good.
ngl, should've been a proper architecture-style full building, ideally with 2 tour jeeps in the front. It looks... nice from the front, i guess, but this deserved all the bells and whistles.
What's impressive is that they actually built this facade for the movie. Nowadays they'd probably just use CGI and the budget would be higher but it would look worse, haha
the build isn't bad, but the whole appeal is that we finally get a lego version of this building. doesn't really do the center's iconic look justice so I don't find it worthwhile.
It's a pretty good set. It's definitely not a UCS syle set, but that's fine. This reminds me of one of those old playsets where the floor and place the kid sets it up are part of the playset. They left out the floor and extra walls to keep the set cheaper (or save costs.) But it looks more or less like the building in the movie. Those dinosaurs are pretty perfect! It's two bad only one raptor is included. The figures are pretty good, wish Grant had an optional hat included. And yep, Lex needed mid-sized legs! How great would it have been if those windows were printed?! I'm not sure if having the paper bags is better, since it requires cutting down more trees. We really need as many trees as we can get. Even worse that the bags aren't recyclable. I haven't seen any in my sets myself haha.
Sorry, I dont see the point of paper bags if there lined with plastic they will go in trash same as potatoe chip packaging. The extra organic materials will add to the methane gas in landfill prolonging the time it takes to become useful land after being fully filled.
Thanks for the thorough review. Great minifigs, prints, and some dinos, but the build is a let down really. The interior just sucks and falls far short for the price. Yet, that seems to be the trend these days for Lego; make a passable facade of famous, nostalgic buildings and bases, and totally go cheap on the interior layout. There's really not much to this set, is there? And no John Hammond? I dunno. I was planning on getting all the new JP sets, but this does not look worth the money. Fortunately there are usually instant sales in my local toy store.
The big dinos make it harder to judge the price. How much would we pay for this minus the two dinos? Guessing prices these days is getting harder. The lab from an older cheaper set had a better arm for better playability. Why LEGO go backwards The shorts are pretty funny since it looks like they are open knee pants. Can't even tell they're shorts from the back or side. Weird to not have the girl with medium legs as she is noticeable taller than her brother.
It's getting to the point where only rappers are gonna be buying LEGO... Like they're no longer gonna have Luxury cars and Lamborghinis.... They're gonna have a bunch of $150 sets and Monkey Kid sets.... UCS sets ... You get it.
One of my main issues is that Lex really should've used mid-sized legs, she should be taller then her brother as she is older so it is really weird to have them the same size, the 2015 LEGO Jurassic World game used full size legs for her.
the mid legs open up so many new opportunities for accurate mini figs and lego just… don’t use them properly, if at all. It’s so frustrating.
This iconic building deserved a big “master builder” style set, like the Star Wars Cantina.
3:38 now that they’ve modeled a Lego Parasaurolophus design for this print, I hope they release it as a full figure (my favorite dinosaur).
agreed on the master builder style set. would buy that version, im gonna pass on this one.
I'm most impressed by how freaking accurate that egg claw is from like 4 pieces.

Same. I really wanted to see this comparison when they revealed this set

Then you can just use that strip to line it up perfectly while handling it by the part that still has backing, and when it’s in place, peel/roll the rest of the backing off while pushing it down.
Without the steps that lead to the visitor's center, this building loses a lot of it iconic look.
You'd think for the price they could've at least included Dr Grants hat 😅
The skeleton can be used to represent the juvenile T Rex from the novel and the other one for the adult
This set is just to expensive for me. I mean who can afford this? Its not much stuff for a lot of money!
The justifier for the Jurassic franchise 💀
Yeah it feels pretty expensive.
Yavin 4 set feels just as disappointing
Resellers that will overcharge for the T-Rex
It’s also just ugly and not a very good representation of the scene it’s depicting.
I don’t think it’s horribly priced but I’m definitely going to wait for a discount
I love that Mr DNA has Minifigure hands. Nice little touch

it really should have had a John Hammond figure as well, maybe instead of Henry Wu
Hammond is with the Brachiosaur. Wu is a good choice given the lab.

gonna go watch the vod RIGHT NOW.
set's cool too, i guess.
I feel that whole is set is great, I would say it’s a little expensive with the lower piece count.
I gotta admit I love the t-Rex as well as the fossil skeleton one!
Let's hope in a couple years we get a master builder set without a t rex so more of the budget goes to the building.
Always appreciate your opinion and reviews! Thanks, Jang!
This should've been done as a UCS set honeslty. It's such a weak effort for what is such an iconic movie set piece
Great review. To me, the outside looks ok, but the inside of the center section should be much taller if you want to recreate the battle between the T-rex and the raptor. Is there a way to add the previous set with kitchen/computer room?
Lego really needs to start making the pin pieces in more colors
God dang it, now I need to get this for my dinosaur area in my city. I'll probably wait till there's a good set of promos tho
The other really good thing about the bags is, compared to the plastic ones, they seem a lot better suited to holding spare parts...

It's severely lacking into detail for the price. Especially on the doors
For me I’m thinking all this if it was bigger the it might be worth $100 but since it’s not too bog the the mostly worth $60 or &70
Glad my boyfriend bought me this on black Friday for $80. It was my Christmas present and I'm glad he didn't spend the extra $50
Only one raptor? Hmmm
really REALLY crossing my fingers for a JP3 spinosaurus.
Bring back Black 3L friction pins!
Last chance to say goodbye to my wallet
I would love a company could print Lego pieces . So we don’t need move away from stickers
Somehow the looks feel a little bit off from the front. I wish it could be more accurate regardless how Lego wanna makes the inside
So at least before the plastic bags ended up in the recycling plastic bin; now these will end up in the trash. Good job Lego, good job.
i hope we get Jurassic Park 2 and 3 sets we need a stego and a spino
The set is even worse than I thought it was going to be. Yikes. It lacking the steps is really what makes it all wrong to me.
I really want this set so I'm saving money to get it I live in new Zealand so it costs 198$
This set could have been a dream come true but it fails at every single thing.
There's really not much to this set, is there? And no John Hammond? I dunno. I was planning on getting all the new JP sets, but this does not look worth the money. Fortunately there are usually instant sales in my local toy store.
Price is just crazy high for we get in the set, the visitor center looks like a camp booth, terrible overall, 70$ max.
please make a paperbag video
Overpriced in my opinion, sorta worth it???
The big dinos make it harder to judge the price. How much would we pay for this minus the two dinos? Guessing prices these days is getting harder. The lab from an older cheaper set had a better arm for better playability. Why LEGO go backwards
The shorts are pretty funny since it looks like they are open knee pants. Can't even tell they're shorts from the back or side. Weird to not have the girl with medium legs as she is noticeable taller than her brother.
I'm disappointed that they went with dining tables in that side space rather than a snippet of the kitchen.
DR wooolks like Michael Mackintyre (a British comedian)
Show me the sets I want, so many sets I can’t buy
I really wanted to get the visitor's center cause of how iconic it is, but I ended up with the brachiosaurus set, way better value than this.
Ehh it's way too expensive there's a lot of other great sets for $130 I think I'll just get the brachiosaurus set since that's the really iconic scene
It's getting to the point where only rappers are gonna be buying LEGO... Like they're no longer gonna have Luxury cars and Lamborghinis.... They're gonna have a bunch of $150 sets and Monkey Kid sets.... UCS sets ... You get it.
Wearing star wars ships as bling...could actually picture that happening
