Just wanted to say that your stoma content has been so insightful for me as a student nurse. Other than that, your passion about sex education has been inspiring me for a long time. Congrats on 10 years Hannah!
you all probably dont give a shit but does anybody know of a way to get back into an instagram account?? I stupidly forgot my account password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me.
If you are on UA-cam in 10 years from now I hope you do a reaction to your answer about what 29 yo you thought 39 yo you would wish you figured out sooner. Would be like a conversation with yourself from the past.
In terms of stress around making content/uploading, a lot of people I watch who used to upload weekly have gone to a 3 weeks on/one week off schedule to give themselves more time to work on content and have space to relax. Maybe something like that would be useful? This was a really insightful video and congrats on ten years!
just visualised it in my head I guess lol. although I'm annoyed at myself because I got the left to right wrong. it doesn't change anything except the visual!
Might be a bit random, but I had a great professor of Social Media and Society who has published a book called "Sex and Social Media" and maybe that's something you would be interested in.. Her name is Katrin Tiidenberg :) Also, hi from Estonia, love your work and congrats on 10 years!
Your advice for starting UA-cam is honestly so good, and yet I feel like I've never heard it before? Having a clear intention (for me it's definitely a hobby) and simply having goals that you have control over were things that I never really thought about. I did have New Year's resolutions like "upload twice a month" but they were always accompanied by things like "get to 500 subscribers by the end of the year". I should get rid of that last one! Thank you for your wisdom. Also, yes, I agree with your Patron, you would be an amazing project manager!
it's taken me YEARS to figure out that setting goals that are about milestones and outside of my control are not good for my self-worth so I'm more than happy to share with others so they don't have to suffer like I did lol!!
I know! I'm starting a venture and trying to figure out goals/checkpoints for myself to sustain my enthusiasm. I have a better idea of the goals I should be setting now - why did nobody ever tell me to set goals I have control over 😂
as someone who has worked in video production, i think a lot of youtubers would enjoy being producers for companies/projects other than their own if their careers had gone differently! it's definitely true that so many of the skills overlap (not the least of which being organization!)
I could definitely see you as a project manager! I mean, you are already one. My impression of you is that you are more of a generalist than a specialist, which I think fits into the manager/leader role (I'm not a career coach btw, this is just based on my thoughts). You are strategic, organized, reliable and have an ability to think holistically. And you're good at delegating tasks (to specialists). These are really valuable skills and I think you don't have to worry about not delving deeper into technical skills. It's better to leave that to the specialists. Happy 10 years!
I think you'd be a kickass IRL educator for both adult and kids/teens. There's so much you could do with that even online and in terms of content creation - other than what you're doing now of course. Maybe a switch in the type of content you're creating could help with those burnout-y feelings? Same subject, different approach kind of thing. I feel the hamster wheel thing with creating art. Sometimes I want to flip a table and stop all together, but that's just an in-the-moment thing and more a symptom than a solution. Don't know if I'm making any sense lol
Your mid-video lecture on energy was very much needed. Thank you! And monoboob really should be the ultimate trend of 2021 and just what is standard from now on.
An example of an older youtuber and sex educator: Dr Lindsey Doe from Sexplanations is 39! I think most of the people I watch on youtube are over 30 - Ask a Mortician, Tom Scott, Jessica Kellgren-Fozard, plus most of the people making autism content, and many of the sewing community and costubers
As a therapist thanks for saying the bit that lots of things are therapeutic but only therapy is therapy. If you want a really good career indicator you can get a BFI test done, it looks at character traits and how how they would be beneficial in a career. Don't go for the ones online, they're automated and just look at the scores. A professional administrator does an interview and writes up a report based on who you are, and how all your different scores relate to each other in the context of what you say in the interview. I thought the spreadsheet maker in you would appreciate this. Also I was super impressed that you keep a spreadsheet of your cycles of how you relate to your job. That's actually a very impressive protective method for taking care of your mental health, I'm totally passing this on.
I'm not sure how best to explain this ... When I watch some UA-cam videos, after a while I get that feeling you get sometimes after scrolling Instagram for too long. I never feel like that about your videos, I feel brighter and better after watching each one... All of them feel so educational, even the ones where you're cooking spag bol 😁
I remember everything. From that video drunk cooking in a basement or something, to the start of many collaborations, all the events, the long years of being single, London and the window-less room, the books, the start of all the sexy talk, the reconnecting with your jewish origins... Not to brag, but I've been there almost since the beginning and could barely speak english at the time but stuck with you (and some others). I've always loved your content and I love that you are still here today. Not everyone from 10 years-ago has stucked with youtube (which is fine of course), but I'm glad you're still here now
I can't remember when I first found you, but I think maybe 4-5 years ago? Have NO clue why the algorithms directed me this way, but I'm So Grateful! Growing up Christian in Texas my sex ed was abysmal. Spent my 20s deconstructing the abstinence only message. Content like yours helped me form a healthier mindset. Thank you for creating digestible, educational content that liberates.
I understand why most people find social media can have a negative affect on their mental health, but as someone with a disability that makes me mostly housebound, social media has kept me part of the world and without it my mental health would be so much worse as I wouldn't be able to meet other people and have friends. On top of that I learn so much through social media from people like you about all kinds of topics I never knew I'd be interested in because it's such an approachable medium, especially when you find a creator that gives the information in a way that works for you.
Whoa! The spreadsheet idea you mentioned could be incredibly useful for me, I think. I am usually in a good place but at times I go to a very dark place, and when asked why later on I never really remember what triggered it. I'm going to have to adopt that idea for myself (also having a reason to update a spreadsheet when I go dark may help me not go there....idk)
Seems like your real dream job is Community Director around your fave kind of educational content. Im really glad you have made a career out of yotube. Youve taught me so much and shaped how i think of so many unrelated things. Youve been a super positive influence on in my life. I have one of your portrait prints above my desk and when working on projects i take psychic inspiration for your attitude towards work and life. Thanks for sharing :)
I was almost tearing up, when you talked about welcoming people, who create content in your life. I have not been around for your channel the whole ten years, but it feel like pretty long ago, probably maybe 7+ years. And I just wanted to use this opportunity to say thank you for your videos, I really enjoy watching them. :)
When I first started watching your videos, I was like, "Omg she is so cool" and to this day you are easily one of the most charming people that I follow online. I picked up so much from all the content that you have produced. I secretly wish that I am in London in the future someday and can meet you in person. Till then, sending you lots of love and a virtual hug. P.S. Hannah has a spreadsheet for recording the low points. Why am I not surprised? Haha.
Awesome video, thank you for sharing your reflections on a pretty epic 10 years. It was really interesting to see that you've learned how to interact with your followers by seeing how people you watch interact with you. A safe separation is super important and you seem to have it handled, so well done for that. 👏
LOVE that top on you. I love when you wear yellow and orange, but purple is a great color for you. I think in the next 10 years you’ll change your focus to your family, whatever that looks like. And in doing that I think you’ll pull back on your concerns over how many videos you need to post to “stay relevant” and you’ll find a nice balance. And maybe that means YT itself won’t be your main job, but I think that’s where your healthier relationship with YT will come from.
I feel like one portion of getting off the hamster wheel is having timeless content that receives views for years to come so you can keep making money off your back catalog of videos. TiffanyFerg discussed this in her recent Internet Analysis video talking about why so many UA-camrs have stopped/slowed posting on UA-cam
I just wanted to say that I really appreciate all of the videos you’ve made, and especially the ones on sex ed. I was home schooled and basically didn’t have any sex ed beyond being told I had to wait until marriage to have sex. I didn’t know women even could orgasm until my early 20’s 😬 your content and the content from Sexplanations seriously changed my life. So even if you don’t stay on UA-cam, thank you for all you’ve done over the years!
This energy chart is SO helpful. And not how you'd think, even. Over the past couple of decades, my energy levels have been steadily declining, so I'm trying to things - sometimes more things - with less energy. So when I do either of those two high energy things, I have to take a serious rest. Also, they can't go on for too long. It's fantastic to have this chart to use and refer back to as I think through these things. You're a great teacher, Hannah!!
Something I've been thinking about as a 19 year old wanting to have a bit of fun streaming on Twitch, is that nowadays it's so easy to try and become a UA-camr or Twitch streamer. Loads of people my generation grew up watching UA-camrs and Twitch streamers and now want to be doing the same. However the platforms are not supporting those people due to the fact it's so saturated from everyone doing it and therefore it's not possible to earn a living unless you have some next level marketing and entrepreneurship. It's not our fault we weren't born in the years where we could upload on UA-cam or Twitch when it was first starting out unlike people 5-10 years older than us. It seems so fun to do but it's only ever going to be a hobby for me
there are new people who manage to break out and make it a career all the time but you're right I do think it's definitely harder now than it was 10 years ago! Much harder but not impossible. And it also depends on what your personal definition of success is.
@@morehannah Oh yeah, I'm not saying it's impossible by any means! Just a lot harder and possibly takes longer to get to where you can make it a career due to the nature of it
22:10 - I'm a Psych student, & there's a lot of interest/recent buzz in the community around that exact topic, so I can't see it being long before at least one longitudinal study comes from that (there's already a fair bit of recent recent research, just not longitudinal stuff specifically - my money's on NZ or NYC being the one's to get that started) However, what I"M personally more interested to see (& a little frustrated that there is literally zilch on this topic yet & no talk about it either), is research on how those born in the 90's who chose NOT to have fb/ig/twitter etc, how it impacted on social relationships/isolation/fading of relationships etc (particularly when it comes to strong long term relationships, over their ability to meet new people etc) in a world where everyone else in their age bracket is using social media as their way to keep in touch/maintain long term bonds etc. I guess what I mostly mean is: So many people talk about the harms (& benefits) of social media... But SO rarely is there a conversation about the harms for those who don't want to partake in that, when we now live in such a social-media-driven-world.... Its a real shame how these days, not having a platform tends to mean those voices kind of get forgotten (minority VS the larger collective I guess) - I just wish there was at least SOME kind of discussion on that, even just a little...
That burnout spreadsheets sounds a lot like the CBT homework my therapist gives me for tracking my anxiety and mood. Basically what, when and for how long was the "incident" (for lack of better word), what strategies did I use to try and deal with it, and were they successful. It's been helpful for figuring out what my triggers actually are, and also fine tuning what strategies are helpful and which ones aren't.
Hannah, I haven't been watching you for all 10 years--I really only seriously began paying attention to UA-cam in 2014--but I am grateful for all of your efforts. I am a Subscriber, but not a Patron, mostly because I am in dire financial straights and must carefully choose how to spend what resources I have. I completely understand why you are more concerned about interacting directly with your patrons than with what are basically random people, especially with over half a million subscribers--WOW!--but I hope you know that you are even more well-known than you realize. I'm sure that someone has done the math regarding Patrons vs Subscribers vs Viewers to reckon what actual viewership really is, but I also believe that I cannot be the only person that avidly follows you and is deeply interested in your content, yet is not a member of your Patreon. I don't know if anyone tells you this enough, but you have made an incredible contribution to culture! Sex education in the the U.S. and U.K. is horrible and changing it for the better is going to be an uphill battle. You are on the front lines of that battle, and you do it with joy and perseverance. UA-cam may crumble--who knows?--but I don't think you will ever stop what you're doing. 39-year-old Hannah will still be doing this, even if it isn't on UA-cam, or until our culture has sorted itself regarding its backward shit. Here's hoping that happens in the next 10 years, but I'm not holding my breath. Either way, you're my hero!
I really connect with your productivity videos (I'm a spreadsheet gal myself), and all of your sex ed content helped me a lot with my own issues. Thank you
Hannah your burnout / performance explanation was sooooo helpful to me! Hit me right at a moment when I feel like I’m existing in survival and burnout mode, feeling both overwhelmed and angry. Wow. Thank you for the extended explanation, and I appreciate the citation too. ☺️
Awwww congrats on 10 years! I was vaguely aware of your channel for a minute before i heard you on the banging book club and was like faaaar that hannah is cool eh. Then started tuning into your youtube content 😍
I love you and your content. The hormone diaries really sparked my interest in thinking about me, my body, and my sexuality. Your content is funny, engaging and informative. I also love your book content as I am a huge reader. I’ve been subscribed to you for about 4 years now, and I still click to watch every video. Love you Hannah! 💜
Not a career coach, but an occupational therapist and can look at transferable skills, ha! Totally going to use that engagement diagram with my clients. Great video! Wild to think I found your videos in high school probably? At the time I didn't have any sex positive perspectives and I feel like finding your videos were so comforting (as you're 2ish years older -basically a mentor for 19 year old me). You didn't touch on this, but I wonder what it's like getting in your career so young (for anyone who's in this situation)? I'm 27 and just getting started! It's an odd age to feel new and unknowledgeable in a field.
I started watching your videos probably 7 or so years ago. I had been watching Lacy Green so your videos started being suggested to me. Overall I’ve really enjoyed watching you evolve as a creator over the years and your health journey. You are also only a year older than me so I feel like we are in the same/similar place in life. When you shared you were tfab I got excited because I will be ttc later this year!
I feel like what might be helpful is to treat UA-cam like a job where you get a certain amount of annual leave, like at my job I get 25 days plus the 8 bank holidays. You could plan out those holidays days you will take over the year like you're in a job where you're meant to take it, and that might help with making sure you take some time off ☺
I think what is amazing about Your work as a sex educator, is that you can reach such a broad range of people, and in particular people who wouldn't sign up/go along to in person 'sex education' seminars sessions etc. People who just have questions, are curious, confused, could really benefit from widening their understanding and see someone else going though and navigating sex, relationships, hormones, birth control, fertility (ie ME). So thankyou you are amazing and I love all your content! :)
Would love a follow up discussion surrounding burn out and progression, your ability to identify and track your low moments and their corresponding triggers really peaked my interest
Honestly I wouldn't worry about putting out lots of content. People will still watch if you upload every other week or something like that. Love your videos, so happy to have found your channel.
You don't need to quit! It's not one or the other. And if videos don't perform well, its a shame, but if you're proud of the content that shouldn't be impacting your self worth.
It's funny you mention studying history and not knowing what to do with it.... Here I am starting a UA-cam channel to DO something to put that degree to use for once. Fingers crossed I'll be looking back in 10 years with the same clarity you have! And I've never related more to a graph than the rest vs "burn out" stages thank you for including that in!
Very interesting watching this. I just launched my own UA-cam channel a week ago so it's interesting hearing from someone who's 10 years in the game already.
If it's got to the point where you're feeling low so often that you're keeping track, even if it's less frequent, then please do. I love your content, I would love you to keep making videos forever, but not at the expense of your mental health.
I came to the party later than some but been around for a while now. Have to say that I really enjoy your content. It is always so thought-provoking and educational, which makes it really engaging! I feel I've become a more understanding person over the years by watching your content. Also, I will be stealing that sensational thought diagram/graph (is it a thought diagram? I dunno but it is to me so it is!) as I am frequently all over the place of late and have been looking for something to help manage it in my head. Thank you so much! I hope you are still producing videos in 10 years. Who else will I watch at tea time?! Though I do hope my personal circumstances change by then...heh, halp me! Thanks for the great video Hannah. You rock.
Can’t believe I started watching you when I was 14 and now I’m 21! The channels I’ve watched in that time certainly changed a lot; you’re one of the only ones that stuck this entire time! Totally worth it ❤️ Congratulations!
I like your insights on yourself. It's useful to for my own self reflection. I'm just finishing university and I'm mostly stuck in survival and burnout. First month of each semester is performance. I also hope you don't get stuck in survival so much in the future. I've been watching for over five years, maybe seven? I really enjoy your content. Also, I'm totally down for very occasional videos way in the future, like annual Treasure Trove videos or something. I love hearing your thoughts and research on the sex education stuff the most, and would miss it being entirely gone the most.
this gives me internet analysis by Tyffany Ferg Vibes love it!! Also book recommendation (that i have not read yet but i would LOVE to hear your thoughts especially as a person looking to be a parent) Growing up shared.
I first encountered you with your Identity video and watched you ever since. So the part in which you tried to label yourself, especially the part in which you were quick firing the terms had a nice nostalgic feel for me. 😉 Congrats with your 10 years. Don't focus too much on frequency and keep making what you love.
Wow 10 years I been following you must of that time must of started follow you around that 2011-13 period :) You've always been and inspiration. I agree with your thoughts on this platform it really interesting
Regarding the "burn out tracking pattern", I did the same last year but for the times I wanted to quit. I did it in Clue, because I was wondering if it was related to PMS only or if it was more deep (and also more as an experiment to see if I was affected emotionally by PMS overall). When I came almost everyday to tick this box, it was pretty clear that it wasn't just hormonal. Seeing it visually made me realise how often it was (as most of the time we have a tendency to forget or minimize). Well, I changed jobs and I can tell you that this box is rarely ticked now. For people who have a tendency to analyse everything, I think it is a pretty good solution to "put it on paper". I might try your idea in the future.
@@morehannah Exactly! It's so easy to tell yourself "oh it was just 1 day of bad mood". No lady, it was twice a week for several weeks, be honest with yourself. But you need some maturity to get real with your feelings and want to work on them, so I really applaud you Hannah 👏 And most of all wish you the best of luck for continuing on your way to the top while taking care of yourself!
"maybe I'm minimizing my own experience" why am I in this picture.......... love the introspective dive into what the last 10 years have been and what may be to come
I wonder if there’s a way you could restructure your work so that there isn’t pressure to make a certain number of videos within a specific timeframe? That way you could just make and upload videos when you feel like it and are excited about it and do other stuff with the rest of your time :)
Could you alternate weekly videos between channels? Also if I was in your shoes asking how I'd feel about my kids seeing the sex education content... I'd be like well sex ed in public school is utterly inadequate, and this is information I'd want them to know. So... I can't see the cons possibly outweighing the pros. Loved your quadrants. Very helpful.
“UA-cam has gotten cooler, I don’t think I have”. Love you Hannah 😂
Just wanted to say that your stoma content has been so insightful for me as a student nurse. Other than that, your passion about sex education has been inspiring me for a long time. Congrats on 10 years Hannah!
thank you!
Stoma content is the most interesting imo

I loved watching a chatty video with you standing up, you talk using your whole body and it's really engaging!
Started watching you because my mum got a stoma. Boom - now I own Lucy and Yak dungarees. That's how it works. Apparently.
haha omg I'm an INfluENceR!
@@morehannah I've always thought of you as a horizon broadener!

And maybe that means YT itself won’t be your main job, but I think that’s where your healthier relationship with YT will come from.
yeah it'll be interesting to see how it changes because of having kids (🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼)
I feel like one portion of getting off the hamster wheel is having timeless content that receives views for years to come so you can keep making money off your back catalog of videos. TiffanyFerg discussed this in her recent Internet Analysis video talking about why so many UA-camrs have stopped/slowed posting on UA-cam
There’s no age to be on UA-cam. There will be a need for older you tubers and the audience aged with them ! Love you Hannah
Just a lot harder and possibly takes longer to get to where you can make it a career due to the nature of it
22:10 - I'm a Psych student, & there's a lot of interest/recent buzz in the community around that exact topic, so I can't see it being long before at least one longitudinal study comes from that (there's already a fair bit of recent recent research, just not longitudinal stuff specifically - my money's on NZ or NYC being the one's to get that started)
However, what I"M personally more interested to see (& a little frustrated that there is literally zilch on this topic yet & no talk about it either), is research on how those born in the 90's who chose NOT to have fb/ig/twitter etc, how it impacted on social relationships/isolation/fading of relationships etc (particularly when it comes to strong long term relationships, over their ability to meet new people etc) in a world where everyone else in their age bracket is using social media as their way to keep in touch/maintain long term bonds etc.
Really helpful thanks Hannah, I'm 2 years into my own YT journey and find this channel really inspiring and motivating, best wishes Mike
Love that top!
Hahahah omg loved the bloopers!! And the edition is amazing!! I never noticed the cuts😱
Im currently doing my History UnderGrad and the amount of areas you can go to for work after is scary.
'has this turned into a lecture?' yes, but I love it
Would love a follow up discussion surrounding burn out and progression, your ability to identify and track your low moments and their corresponding triggers really peaked my interest
Honestly I wouldn't worry about putting out lots of content. People will still watch if you upload every other week or something like that. Love your videos, so happy to have found your channel.
You don't need to quit! It's not one or the other. And if videos don't perform well, its a shame, but if you're proud of the content that shouldn't be impacting your self worth.
you are cool from the nerdy old man . I hope you stop worrying and keep your positive fun life loving content going
Thank you for all the advice, fun and relaxing times and clearing our minds with all the videos 😘🙌
The end of the video, when you thanked us for spending time with you, was a bit emotional 💛💛💛
This video was just so calming and real and you explain your views of the questions so well! Thank you for that!
Omg the “taking a seriouse moment spreadsheet” feel like i wanna know more!!!!
Very interesting watching this. I just launched my own UA-cam channel a week ago so it's interesting hearing from someone who's 10 years in the game already.
Thank you for what you do.
If it's got to the point where you're feeling low so often that you're keeping track, even if it's less frequent, then please do. I love your content, I would love you to keep making videos forever, but not at the expense of your mental health.
Thanks for all the content hannah u are amazing love this channel and will continue to support u xxxx happy 10 years
I came to the party later than some but been around for a while now.
You rock.
Well done, appreciate your hard work. 👏
The quadrant thing was so interesting, thanks for sharing that!
Can’t believe I started watching you when I was 14 and now I’m 21! The channels I’ve watched in that time certainly changed a lot; you’re one of the only ones that stuck this entire time! Totally worth it ❤️ Congratulations!
Thank you so much for all you do, Hannah! You make me laugh and feel more validated in my own skin. Keep being great! 💕😁
I've always had so much admiration for you.
Great video. I think presenting up gives you more freedom of movement and makes it more dynamic. And again lovely top.
Hannah, I love your videos, thank you for all the effort you put into making them
Don’t quit! You are doing wonderful work!
I love you saying that you love making your podcast, I love your podcast
yayayayay!! thank you 💛
You were one of the first youtubers I ever watched. I was 15 I think and now I'm 20 :)
this gives me internet analysis by Tyffany Ferg Vibes love it!! Also book recommendation (that i have not read yet but i would LOVE to hear your thoughts especially as a person looking to be a parent) Growing up shared.
I just started my channel this year, can't wait to be 10 years strong 💪 💪 😂
I first encountered you with your Identity video and watched you ever since. So the part in which you tried to label yourself, especially the part in which you were quick firing the terms had a nice nostalgic feel for me. 😉 Congrats with your 10 years. Don't focus too much on frequency and keep making what you love.
Wow 10 years I been following you must of that time must of started follow you around that 2011-13 period :) You've always been and inspiration. I agree with your thoughts on this platform it really interesting
Hi Hannah, your videos helped me in a way you can’t even imagine, thank you and happy 10th anniversary 🧡
That top is so beautiful on you !
I think you would make a very good school teacher
I might try your idea in the future.
yes this! something being confronted visually with how you're really feeling can help to validate those feelings instead of just shrugging it off
@@morehannah Exactly!
On a sidenote, I think you would be a GREAT history teacher!
I have some experience working in Film & TV production and I definitely think that you'd make a great Producer or Production Manager!
Ooooo an AD toooo
I just enjoy everything that you do.
UA-cam 10 years ago was so DIY. I remember when my favourites UA-camrs were like "OMG this BIG UA-camr has 1000 subscriber that's insane !"
That chart.... wow
That dress! 😍
If UA-cam stays, your audience would age with you no doubt
"maybe I'm minimizing my own experience" why am I in this picture.......... love the introspective dive into what the last 10 years have been and what may be to come
I wonder if there’s a way you could restructure your work so that there isn’t pressure to make a certain number of videos within a specific timeframe? That way you could just make and upload videos when you feel like it and are excited about it and do other stuff with the rest of your time :)
Where's your top from? I love it 😍
Do you have any history book recommendations? I have gotten into studying history recently and I want to make myself a little history reading list.
Very helpful.
needed a headphone warning for those beeps at the end!
Congrats on your 10 year anniversary!
Oooh is the spreadsheet what prompted you to stop posting daily on Instagram?
💖
Loved the video, but the beep noise at the end to transition between clips was so LOUD in my headphones 😫😅
