    The answer is pretty universally "Yes" if you can find the STL's. The 1 for 1's are out there but pretty aggressively guarded by the 3d printing community due to GW's dmca tendencies and Admech being called the money-hammer" faction due to the cost per point.
    There have been in-depth cost analysis regarding manufacturing costs for GW before.
    Big costs are the injector, and plates with a $100,000 price tag on the extreme end for the plates, which can last up to a million runs.
    Whatever GW pays their sculptors, considering GW's business behavior history 100% expect it to mirror Disney's "We own everything you make while here."
    I've done deep dives into cost analysis and financials for GW before and they exist entirely in unicorn land as far as return on investment is concerned with their profits often being more than double GW's operational cost. They could afford, rather easily, to make the hobby easy to get into but that's never been how GW works.

    • @Bluecho4
      @Bluecho4 Рік тому +3

      I don't doubt that some molds cost up to $100,000. I'm just wondering how common that is, even among GW's range. They aren't spending that much for those special promotional model kits that get sold for one day, and never again.
      Other manufacturers of plastic models show you can put out kits at a price point and _volume_ far more customer-friendly than GW. GW just wants more money.

    • @severdislike4222
      @severdislike4222 Рік тому +6

      @@Bluecho4 Oh well aware of it, I'm using that particular $100,000 mold on purpose (is for large body multiple hollow steel plates) as a to-prove-a-point, the average for things like gunpla & models (the closest things to 40k) hardly ever get over $3,000 per set-plate. There are also ways to drastically reduce the cost of plates like using thermally resistant resins to create incredibly cheap (we're talking tens of dollars here) molds....

    • @the_arcanum
      @the_arcanum Рік тому

      You have to thank this moron making explicit videos about the sites where he found them so they get DMCAed to death by GW and the files vanish/get purged. And the modelers who spend tens of hours (unlawfully) remodelling GW's products don't even get the 1 to 3 $/€ they expected for their work so they won't try the hussle anymore. Can't blame them. But it's all good because Battle Brother Sam was able to make a video about it that buzzed so he got cash. Yay.

    • @severdislike4222

      @@the_arcanum There's the other way, ninja ripper, noesis, blender (for resizing, putting in a skeleton to pose things & to part them,) then into cura/lychee/prussia, name that slicer, ect but that's a lot more work than most are willing to put into a project

    3:02 I might be wrong, but your resin doesn’t look mixed up properly, which may affect your prints as well.
    Usually, if I leave my resin out for too long, it’ll start to separate into a white layer on bottom and a black layer on top. It kind looks like your prints pulled that white layer up when it finished and started rising back up.
    Remember, your resin needs to be shaken, not stirred.

    sorry for long comment but i feel like i should drop some wisdom i have picked up over the years
    as some one who has printed more then 30+ full size armies I highly recommend you spend the time to learn how to support your own models for a few different reasons.
    1. everyone uses different printer size beds have different lift heights, speeds and burn in layer settings these can all effect the chance of success.
    2. every one uses different types or resin. Some resin is more or less brittle than others and supports may not work for all due to this reason
    3. the slicing software some times can make a huge difference in success or failure sometimes when a model was supported in lychee but u use chitu software to slice it can result in failure
    here are some ways to combat these issue from arising and to avoid failures as much as posable
    1. when supporting models use more supports then u think is needed. I recommend using 1-3 heavy supports(place the heavy ones on the feet and first contact areas of the model) then use a mix of medium and light supports to fill the gaps. (pros ) u wont get many fails at all this way (cons) allot of supports to clean up and also wasted resin.
    2. increase your burn in (first layers) times and also increase the lift height and decrease your lift speed. (pros) better quality and less chance of failure (cons) longer print times and can be hard to get model off build plate so don't go too crazy.
    3. do not for any reason change your resin type. color wont matter u can mix the same type of resin even if its different colors but once u change resin all ur settings will be compromised and u will sometimes have to tweak many settings witch can cause fails and frustration. (pros) less fails and you can keep pushing your quality to failure balance (cons) some times the resin u choose will go up and down in price witch can be a pain I recommend buying bulk when it goes on sale on amazon etc.
    4. goes with out saying but cleanliness and maintain your machine. u will need to replace the FEP fairly regularly as a rule I usually change it once every 50 or so prints also i recommend a full clean out once a week just to clean off the FEP make sure threes no dents or creases if it looks questionable replace it. u dont want reason all over ur screen FEPs are cheap dont risk damage to your screen
    any ways great video mate keep em comin

    Take this with a big grain of salt as I'm fairly new to resin printing but, assuming that shot of UVTools is showing only 3 islands detected (the next section being resin traps?), that seems pretty good to me. Even models with great pre-supports will usually show a few tiny islands in UVTools, in my admittedly limited experience.

    • @battlebrothersam
      @battlebrothersam  Рік тому +1

      Yeah it was 3 small islands which is why I printed them because I didn't think they would affect it but like I said it's the first time using uvtools, usually I use photon file validator and don't have any islands on my supports so that was my base for comparison

    Sooo; I'm trying to cast an ad mech army out of Copper, Aluminum, Brass or Silver to play with some friends. Preordered a Saturn 3 and plan on using powercast wax resin, currently building an electric kiln for some molds. If anyone has some stl files or have a great idea of where I could find some Adeptus Mechanicus models please @ me, I'd like them pretty close to GW's models so it's hard to tell apart (idgaf about intellectual property arguments, they make plenty of money of their franchise of lore and are not offering the market what it desires, metal casted figures should cost the price they charge for shitty plastic).
    "From the moment I realized the weakness of plastic, it disgusted me. I craved the strength and certainty of casted metal." - Magos Dominus Reditus, realizing plastic was expensive and frail.

I think they are doing a huge injustice to their fans and patrons not exploring like you are the alternative sculpts and options that GW just doesn't give or over charges for..... keep up the good work and If I had the cash I would defiantly support you on patron.

    Just a quick question. I followed all your videos and I got a great deal on a printer and have had amazing success printing off the entire new custodes box with free files. It was a test to see if I could make my money back and to learn more about 3d printing which I did.
    I just watched another well known youtuber release a new video about starting 3d printing, he would be influencing newbies to doing what he recommends, but he starts off with condemning free files, and instead subscribe to a creator with a subscription service, who also happen to be sponsoring the video. Now this alone may not be a big thing, you can get a lot of benefits supporting creators and downloading high quality files, but in the same video he talks about not spending loads of money starting off and that he bought a nail lamp when he could have cured them outside. Seems a bit contradictory, don't spend money if you can help, but do to support me.
    I would argue he has a responsibility as a renown content creator to advice people accurately, but I'm not sure his motives are entirely honest. What does anyone else think?

    Failed presupported files = dead stuff to use as basing materials. But I've found stationforge supports suck. You can get a decent print if you put them through uv tools and add a few choice supports yourself. It saves you only a little bit of time though.

  • @JNicls
    @JNicls Рік тому

    Is that even a surprise? I mean it’s obvious that printing an army yourself is cheaper than buying one. It’s also cheaper to build a house on your own than hire someone to do it.
    Don’t get me wrong great video with some nice models, but the question you asked was kinda irrelevant. Personally I think it would be a cool format if you showcase cool proxies you found on the internet, thus supporting original content creators.

    @Perram Рік тому

    I think you hammer too much on the pre-support issues. Most of the time they'll print ok anyway. You put too much emphasis on things being perfect. And I also think you overstate the risk to the vat / printer. There is certainly value to be had in reviewing different qualities of supports - but I think it comes up too much every episode.
    Use a screen protector for your printer and then just print away.

    It is truly disappointing to see STL files overpriced because of the plastic models costing too much. It feels like the creator is exploiting the fomo. Some examples are ghamak or davale ( way too much) and one should take into consideration the fuss of 3d printing and especially the argument that you can print as many as you like, for hero miniatures this argument is false. I like to support other creators that produce high quality and cheap stls such as suttungr, rnestudio and the free stls from cults 3d that I do not want to mention (in order to avoid GW) that brought to us daemons and even belakor...

    • @user-lr7qo9gs7y
      @user-lr7qo9gs7y Рік тому

      A cost of 7 and above dollars for one stl file (if it doesn't include at least some alternative build) is overpriced since you only buy a digital product that has no guarantee that it will print smoothly...just my thoughts.

  • @brailleeulogy120

    I’m not sure if I’m ok with this… I believe as 3D printing catches on, prices will increase for the real thing. As soon as GW feels the hurt to their profits and it negatively hurt us that legitimately buy their products. I feel 3D printing is ok as long as they were 100% banned in tournament play. These are my thoughts and concerns, perhaps someone can change my mind?

  • @mackdye9070

    3d print all you want but you can't take them to a tournament so what is the point? Its such a weird "flex" to spend money on something you can't use except at home. Basically useless for 99.9999999999% of people.
