  • I couldn't find any videos of how to start this bike so here's a guide of how to use the compression release on these motorcycles designed by Haynes diesel. They are equipped with a compression release so you get the bike cranking and when it is spinning fast enough you can close the compression release and then it starts to sputter until it runs.

Shouldn't need to use compression release unless you are priming the fuel lines. The odyssey pc625 battery should be used in these bikes for cranking these high compression engines per Hayes diversified technology.

I did end up using the Odyssey battery but for some reason it still didn't want to crank over without the compression release engaged, I killed the battery plenty of times trying to avoid using the compression release. I actually got to the point where I was scared to shut it off at times because if you didn't use the compression release properly you had a good chance to killing the battery trying to start the bike. the battery they sold me may have been an older battery but it seemed to work great if I used the compression release. I hope this helps!

JP-8 diesel , where to find? can replace normal diesel for using?

    • @eastcoastenduro

I used normal diesel in it.

    • @amerigo88

Means it requires either diesel or military JP-8 fuel. Military engines run on either/or gasoline, diesel, civilian jet fuel, JP4, JP5, or JP8. The JP fuels tend to be versatile. Supposedly, an M1 tank's turbine engine can run on hairspray. Lots of hairspray.
Part of why Germany knocked over France so quickly in 1940 was the gasoline /petrol powered panzers found undamaged French gas stations, allowing them to continue their rampage after the breakthrough at Sedan. An Abrams tank should be able to cross Eurasia on pretty much any liquid that burns.

JP-8 is equivalent to kerosene or #1 diesel. #2 diesel is what you usually find at the road pumps in the USA. #1 diesel would be easier to cold-start.

Im sure that starter clutch would not stand more than 100 starups 🤣 so much compression and stress. I am pretty sure it would brake very ofter. I have an Aprilia Pegaso 650cc, Rotax engine and the most common fault is the starte clutch (yes mine broke too). Too much stress for a startercluch which is for sure undersized for that compressions and extantions. You can imagine the impact on the diesel compression...jeeez 😅

    • @eastcoastenduro

The starter was not happy, I can imagine it wouldn't have lasted long.

Military KLR650's are custom built to handle military fuels and conditions. I expect the starters are massively upgraded. These bikes were not cheap once built to military specifications.

@@interstellarsurfer I would like to see a source for that story. "The Truth shall set you free."
That said, trying to manage Class III (POL) is hard enough without petrol powered vehicles in the mix. I guess you can hope to rely on the local civilian sources in a combat zone, but that is likely erratic.
