I had a difficult time listening to Shannon Smith’s voice and style. She is grating. I believe Ethan’s parents failed him by buying him a gun, not securing it, and by ignoring his cries for help. Ethan is severely mentally sick. Hallucinations without taking drugs, believing the house is haunted, bowls are flying from the shelves. No therapist or professional help from parents. While the parents were not parenting and ignored the obvious, I’m not positive Jennifer will be found guilty.
If I were a juror, I would ask to be removed because of dislike of Shannon Smith due to her behaviors. Too much bias against her not sure I could be objective. Prosecution's actions aren't much better. The judge runs too loose a courtroom.
I was not convinced. IMO, she was partially responsible for what happened
I would vote guilty because the parents took no steps in trying to prevent this. All the signs were there that he was either going to hurt himself or others and they left him at the school without checking if he had the gun that they bought him. And all the things they did after the shooting showed consciousness of guilt more so than remorse.
@@KohalaLoverI agree. The parents acted detached from him, drank & did coke, had affairs, fighting, living beyond their means. It was a very volatile situation in their home. It’s no wonder he couldn’t function & his mental illness manifested itself. JC doesn’t care about him now either, she only cares about herself. She took his money and ran away. I’d venture to say that she doesn’t care about the dead & injured victims of that day. She only cares about saving her a$$.
Im sorry but I cant get over this defense attorney. I understand that there are differing opinions on whether or not the affairs are relevant, but to be in a court room full of victims and/or victims families and laugh, make a joke about how exciting this is going to get and say things like "you might make us all blush" is insanly unprofessional and disrespectful, IMO. And the jury is present to see it. Ive never seen anything like it (not that ive watched a ton of trials lol)
I mean my jaw was on the floor when she said that! I have a feeling they’re gonna have to do this whole thing over smh
@@ginag6209 I had to rewind it and make sure I heard her right the first time. And the judge said NOTHING.
I’ve watched a significant portion of at least 10 trials, and two trials the entire way though. I’ve never heard conduct like this from an attorney, it’s wild. How has she not been taken off
@tianna1116 didn't she just have to apologize for saying she was going to kill herself in the middle of the courtroom when she couldn't get her computer to work? I don't understand why the judge coddles her so much and doesn't call her out on the inappropriate comments.
I agree. My jaw dropped at her statements.
Her lawyer is so unprofessional. In probably her highest profile case she decides that this is the best time to make herself look like an idiot
The defense attorney was part of Larry Nassar's defense team. The trial for that monster was probably her highest profile case.
@deannamarie8389 I would say both are equally "high profile" for equal but separate reasons. This trial was the first of it's kind and failed epically

I think she's a narcissist
She didn’t give him the gun. The father did. Not saying you’re wrong about responsibility…but get your facts straight
She can be responsible thru liability (civil case) without criminality with these charges. It’s such a fine tooth line. I think the evidence shows that she’s not criminally responsible but very much liable. In fact, I think the school is even more liable than the parents at this point.
Apparently it was hidden but obviously not well enough
She isnt doing herself any favours with this salty attitude
I think that's why the jury decided on the verdict they did. The defense tried to make her relatable but she came off as clueless.

Why are the politicians and lawyers more prescious than our children?
I have never seen such an unprofessional court setting.
Same here, every time defense counsel speaks I’m thinking, how is this allowed? She is so incredibly unprofessional with her remarks
Amen!
The way the judge conducted that whole trial was just a mess
Welcome to Oakland County / Wayne Country / Michigan. Our governor, our AG, SOS...all a crooked MESS.
If you watch the trial from the Parkland school shooter, it’s even worse. There was a few defense attorneys always sitting at the table and one of them is under investigation by that state bar now. They flipped the judge off, and they mocked victims families when they were giving their statements on top of many other things like laughing and joking around making faces, they truly made a mockery of that courtroom. And they argued with the judge several times in front of the jury. This defense attorney should be completely ashamed and embarrassed. I’ve been watching the last couple of days and she is not good at her job and I hope her lack of being able to do her job does not allow this woman to get a new trial if she is found guilty.
This woman is boiling my blood with her nonchalant, flippant attitude, playing to be the righteous one.
Her entire argument is she is not a perfect parent as everyone. You are delusional
@@btafe you are the delusional one as you're thinking in binaries: being "perfect" or "imperfect". it's nothing more than making a caricature of this situation and downgrading this issue for a third grader. you don't neglect your suicidal/homicidal child, gift a gun to him and leave it UNLOCKED, and then try to "I don't know" your way out of the situation despite all the cries for help, writings, drawings, home works, behavior changes. stop arguing against points no one is making, but maybe you can't, because you simple cannot process it.
@@btafe...she makes me sick!! She has blood on her hands also. She is flippant & was a horrible parent. Lock that menace up. Make an example out of her & him too. Those kids would be alive today if they had got him help. She did nothing. Her affair & horses were more important. Sick biatch. Hope the rest of her days are the worst imaginable.
She's not doing herself any favors up there on the stand. She looks rough and is acting defiant.
And when she said she'd do nothing differently, it spoke volumes for me. So I guess she's okay with 4 students dying and others getting wounded. I guess she's okay with all the emotional pain, loss and trauma. I guess she's okay with Ethan being in jail for life. Come on, lady! How about a moment of self reflection?
And there you have the reasons why some times parents need to be held responsible in certain situations. In this case, I believe, she is completely liable here. She needs to go to jail.
It's not a matter of saying that because she didn't do anything wrong she shouldn't be tried, it's more about the reasons that she did nothing to aid her son responsibly that she's being tried.
His mother is as cold as ice, narcissistic, cruel and was wilfully indifferent to her son's cries of help. She only cared about herself, her desires, her horses, her affair and money. She shows no remorse for the 14 victims, three teachers and 11 children and none for her son's severe mental problems. She knew he was depressed, was, 'not right' and although he already had one gun didn't protest and stop him having an even more lethal weapon. She is emotionless, callous, sharp, seemingly oblivious to her culpability not only in consistently neglecting her son and mocking him but also in the horrendous murders her son carried out on defenceless, innocent children and teachers. She will be sentenced for second degree murder and her other counts, I am quite sure the Jury will find her guilty and rightly.
I don’t see where it says 14 victims. I see 4
@@Somebody33390 I know OP is referring to victims as a whole, but it wasn't 14. It was 11 victims (4 kids were killed, while 6 kids and 1 teacher were injured). Not sure where 14 came from.

I was depressed as a kid at times but never went on mass murder. I guess that's just a certain group of people...

Grounds for an appeal if her client is convicted, for sure.

I disagree, i believe there is the truth, which she is not obligated to tell, unless asked about it, but the DA phrases and asks questions in such a way where he expects a yes or no answer to things that can’t be answered with a yes or no. She is trying her best to give the truth and to keep herself out of jail, so should she say Yes to questions where the answer is “once in a while” or “it would depend on the situation”? Because saying no is more accurate, but if the circumstance allows, maybe the answer would be yes. Do you follow? it’s the DAs responsibility to convict her, it’s not her responsibility to prove her innocence. She is innocent until they prove without a doubt that she is guilty.
@@3anneologythat’s a very sheltered comment.
I never seen an attorney talk about herself so much when defending a client.
I don't like her either.. but I will say as she is a lawyer she isn't allowed to use the wording she used to invoke the jury but she is allowed to use herself as an example. I think, that's what she was doing.
Narcissistic people can't help themselves
During her closing argument, she used her son as an example often. It was really gross.
This is NOT about the gun solely! It is about him asking for help and all the other hints along the way. They were shitty parents and not only failed Ethan but people died…

It’s about time parents are being held accountable. YOU are in charge of your kids until they’re 18
Says the woman who's children are NOT teenagers yet. Be careful what you wish for. Knives kill too. So do baseball bats. Parents rights are being infringed and so is our SECOND AMMENDMENT. You do realize that many MINORS fought in battles/wars right? You have no clue but yet you want to condemn a parent? Wow. Unless you have teenage children STFU. You would never understand.
A parent has to make sure a roof is over their head, clothes on their backs and food in their bellies until they're 18. On top of that, the govt also gave the kids rights after the age of 12/14&16 depending on where you live. We can't make them do anything. We can offer support, give advice etc but not control.
@@9babyblu but you can’t own a gun till you’re 18
@@polohorse315 Ethan doesn't own a gun. It's registered to his Dad.
AND if you do decide to purchase your minor child a firearm before the age of 18 YOU are responsible for anything that happens with that gun. Period. It is legal but there’s limitations to that law. I’m a gun owner but putting a gun in the hand of a 15 year old child who clearly has mental problems is completely inexcusable. I own a gun but I also have a profound respect for it. Too many people do not respect guns and what they are capable of. They are for protection, they are not a toy. These two idiot parents treated it as a toy for their 15 year old son who was CLEARLY fucked up in the head.
The defense is basically painting an accurate picture of the fact she made time to have MULTIPLE AFFAIRS, go to parties, pick up shifts at work, and other personal stuff but didn’t make time to care for her son’s health taht was clearly deteriorating right in front of her. She failed as a parent and it’s very evident. She didn’t care until it was too late, she made time for her own needs but ignored the mental and emotional needs of her son. She deserves to go to jail.
But- For how long?
She doesn't deserve to go to jail. This trial is ridiculous parents shouldn't be criminally charged for there kids actions if that's the case what happens if parents let there kid use the car and they steal alcohol from the house and get drunk and hit and kill someone with the car should parents be charged for that? Facts
It's all over the country, not just in the North .
@@lisabeaver2919 North America refers to the US and Cananda too.
I'm from Michigan.
Too distracted by phones...screens, in general?
The defense attorney continues moving papers on top of her table disrupting the questioning she is so inmature
So I’m having a hard time understanding the following:
1. Why you take your child to a gun range to practice shooting
2. Why it’s totally ok that your child requests a gun multiple times
3. That you buy said gun
4. That the gun wasn’t secure and in a place that the child had no access to
Thank you. Mind blowing.
‘Merica. 🤦♀️
She thinks she was a hypervigilant parent, but her son journaled that she was a disengaged parent.
Who should know your child better than you ? Jennifer said she would not change a thing she did with her son. REALLY ? She would have still bought him the gun !
This poor suffering mom& dad said they were not aware of their son had mental issues ( what we’re living under a rock) and give their sick sons gun they might as pulled the trigger them self
I believe this mom to just not understand possibilities of mental health and though there were possible signs, I don’t think she didn’t necessarily care. I don’t think she understood the extent to what her son was feeling at the time. Some parents don’t know what to make of mental health issues, or what to do. As a school counselor, I blame the school for not taking Ethan’s pictures serious enough. I would insist that the student go home and see a crisis therapist within 24 hours. Also, to not check his backpack at the time, was a huge mistake.
They didn’t know he owned or had access to a gun. They didn’t not have all the information necessary to force Ethan to go home that day - they can’t force parents to take children home when the parents don’t tell them enough to make that determination. Neither Jennifer nor James were forthcoming with information to the counselor. He said he would like them to take him that day and see a counselor for suicidal ideation - they refused and legally they were not allowed to do more. If you’re upset, blame those who set the laws for school districts not the counselor. And blame the parents for not giving them more information about Ethan and that he had access to a weapon. The parents are brain dead idiots.
I just wish the prosecution would ask the most important questions of them all- Why didn’t you get your child help? And- Why did you purchase a gun for your child who is clearly unstable?
SHE DIDN’T PURCHASE THE GUN!!!!! OH MY GOD!!! Your comment makes me realize that 90% of people don’t listen.
The Mom didn’t buy the gun, and it wasn’t her idea.
If it was completely up to the Mom, and the Dad didn’t exist, the gun wouldn’t have even been purchased.
It was The Dad and The Son who decided that and did that.
The only reason why she went to the gun range with the son is because HE ASKED, and he RARELY ASKED to do something with his mom.
Also: The Prosecutor asked many times about getting help for the son.
Well they didn’t because they don’t know the answer and as a lawyer you never ask a question you don’t know the answer to… it can go disastrously wrong ….
@@wildmercuryfilms mom did not buy the gun but she didn’t disagree with buying the gun either! That is a decision that should be agreed upon between BOTH parents!
@@wildmercuryfilms She didn't buy the gun. She did buy the bullets used in the shooting though.
@@bull-black_novaI was going to ask about that because Jennifer admits to purchasing the bullets that Ethan wanted because she didn’t know anything about bullets.
My question is does anyone listen to their kid and buy them the bullets they want and not know anything about them? And literally days before the shooting which is so sad.
I just thought it was strange, but maybe it’s common to do?
Maybe it's just me, but I don't think she's too upset about this whole situation.
i think the mom is getting increasingly upset as time passes under direct examination because she’s starting to realize how childish and incompetent her own attorney is and might be worried that she’s gunna get convicted regardless simply because her defense attorney is a flippin nuisance
Yes you were found guilty hallelujah. Hallelujah and I hope the judge gives you the maximum.
Bottom line. Jennifer Crumbley's son asked for help more than once, and she didn't get him help. Even if her son was,"just playing" she should have said ... "Son you went to far". you must get help now. I would rather you spend a month with a Therapist than me losing you because I didn't help you.
This judge needs to control her courtroom. This is cringeworthy. Both sides acting like kids.
She's lazy and too soft to be a judge imo
She sucks-the behavior during this trial should put this judge to shame.
The prosecution is trying to question and the defense attorney stands up and acts like a child not getting her way.
The school and any authorities aware of this drawing prior to shooting should absolutely be held liable along with the parents. The staff had a responsibility of due diligence under the law to report the child and parents to CPS. He clearly indicated he wanted to harm himself or others. Many intermediate schools across the nation perform routine and random checks of backpacks during school and even before the student can enter the building. The child should immediately been removed from campus by authorities and taken to a station or hospital for questioning and evaluation. The school absolutely should have looked in his bag and I’m certain they’ve done it for lesser reason like determining whom a lost bag belonged to. He should have never been allowed to return to class or around other children. I recall reading somewhere that charges or a case filed by parents against the school were dropped, and that is a travesty.
It is unnecessary for a 15 year old child to own a gun! How these “parents” could have given their child a gun is Un fathomable to me.
I think the defense attorney has been reading the nasty comments about her.😅
the defense lawyer is the worst I have ever seen! like a young teenager who has no idea how to behave in the role - it seems incredible she has ever been considered as a professional lawyer in court!
Something about the mom I just don't like.
This is what a narcissist looks like
This Judge has very little control of her OWN courtroom! This is unbelievable!
Again . Do you want the JUDGE TO PRESENT EXPLOSIVE AND CRUEL?
THIS CASE Warrants A CALM COLLECTED LOW DEMEANOR....
PLEASE DONT CONFUSE THE JUDGES CURRENT DEMEANOR AS HER ABILITIES TO RULE!
