The problem is, unless you have the coin in hand, these issues would be hard to detect. Most online photos of coins just don't show the level of detail that is required to really see what is going on. Scary stuff.
Wait, you mean people actually buy gold coins online? Get out of here!
Ben, just watched your whole counterfeit series, having discovered you today. I learned a lot. Excellent presentation and relaxed style. You're a natural. Looking forward to watching many more of your vids. Great channel, and thank you!
Thanks, always good to see a comparison.
Great Information! 👍 I appreciate seeing real and counterfeit coins together and up close. I wish PCGS or NGC would offer in depth online classes on counterfeit detection. I would certainly pay to access quality coin grading and counterfeit classes. Thanks ! 😀👍
Look up the book Counterfeit Gold Detection Guide for more info…
Great vid with the magnification. Well done. Thanks for the info.
Thanks for the info we needed that
Thanks for the tips on what to look for 👍
I have all three of these guys and I’ve often wondered...
🤔
ALL GOOD on this end.
Thank you Sir
Great Video!
Hello. Greeting from Albania. So beautiful coins
Without the luxury of having originals to compare to the counterfeits, this video excels in highlighting bumps, lumps, and granularity on fake coins in near-uncirculated condition. Common sense would suggest smooth, unimpaired field surfaces and crisp lettering and relief detail on originals. Thanks for this video!
Good video thanks
Thanks Ben. I love those Indians and have got some from EBay. Lucky I was not to get a fake.
I agree, I only trust new coins that have the security features. Sad the counterfeiters ruined it. I don't like rounds either, they are just legal counterfeits to me.
good stuff :)
I bought (2) $5.00 liberty head eagle gold coins. I got them both tested at two different Local coin shops with various Sigma Metalytics. One passed every time and the other failed every time. The one that failed was smoother and had a slightly light yellow color. Learned my lesson.
was there a weight difference between the two?
I feel bad for the person that payed for those coins thinking they got a good deal
What does the letters BLR or BLP above the date in small size on the 1915 2.5 dollar Indian head gold coin mean Mike
Good vid. Did you test the fakes to see if they were gold? Were these key or semi-key dates?
On my electric tester they tested 14k, which is low for many ... except for pot metal, then 14k would be high....but a lot of counterfeits we've seen are closer to 18k.
@@TheCoinGeek well at least 18K is something. But 18K solid? The Pre33's I guess are between 21-22K?
Is BGASC a reputable source/dealer?
Did they weigh ok or did your weigh them?
can you do a ping test?
Hey I have one of these I was wondering if you could tell me if it’s real through photos?
will the weight of the coin give away which one is fake?
Hey Ben are these gonna be for sale on your website?
No they are not. DM via instagram if you can.
The $10 almost looks like a brass coin. Color is off on all 3 fakes. Unless the Gold coin is in a high grade slab, I expect to see some wear and/or handling marks.
Good Coins gold 👍👌😁
I've always gone by weight, pretty hard to fake that.
Are these actually gold and will pass on a machine, or just tungsten?
14k is what they tested
On the fakes you can easily see the "punch" around the edge of the coin... plus the detail is very faint on the fakes
I have a real uncirculated one, what is the value
scary good fakes!
Do some of the fakes avoid the magnet test even with a 300+lb magnet? Never heard of one being able to fool such an easy counterfeit measure.
A lot of the fakes are real gold. I had a fake 1 dollar 1850 coin was pure gold but a fake.. still sold it for gold value though.
The shine look like aluminum foil well the surface reflection of aluminum foil
Anything we do,calibration, weighing,x ray spectrometer or ping test, the fakers can still trick us.
They don’t trick me.
It makes you wonder when I have the 7 ceremonial genuine 1933 British pennies with markings of the designer on the neck and it is questionable that this is sold for £115,000 at heritage auctions fake coin that does not have any markings on the neck like B M July 28th 2016 sold. when actually 6 was made for the Irish and six were made for the Scottish and for further was made for 4 Chancellors pattern patriotic demonstration and that brings it to total of 16 coins 1933 British pennies made from copper & Brass shining like orange coins not like yellowish golden like sunshine seven ceremonial British 1933 pennies that I have in my possession. You forget that Hitler also was a Chancellor
I am from Oman I have 20 dollars Golden Double Eagle 1924 I sell it for 17 million dollars
5dollars 1911D interested?
Why didn’t you weight them to show the difference in weight ? 🤦🏻♂️

Probably wish.con
Sucks, where do you think they were made, Chona?
How many times he said granular
👇
The new drinking game.
If the fakes are 14k they are still valuable.
not if your paying gold weight for them. Then you paying 30% above the gold content.
How do you think it's fake I bet it's all real in speaking about the Indian head boy are authentic
Both
Catch the thieves by the weight
Gold very heavy . If the fraudsters make them the proper weight . Not the same size.
