      Agreed. This is why I call this channel, "The Adult Gold & Silver Channel". No whining, no sniveling, no end of the world, and no one pushing PMs to buy
      from them, etc. Yes, there is a sponsor of the channel but from what I have seen over the past couple of years, 2is1 has integrity and it is NOT for sale.
      The sponsorship is simply a business deal and one of the better ones, without compromise. That I deal primarily with that sponsor also does not hurt. 😉

    Insurance has a premium no matter what, whether its Allstate or Gold. Bullion dealers and higher volume coin shops are ruled by the refiners they sell to. What they pay you for a bar or coin is determined by what they can get for it. If you're willing to pay a premium on all the things you buy in life, the premium on precious metals seems minute.

      Yes, it is, and as time passes, the importance of the premiums paid shrinks to insignificance. I keep detailed records of all my PM purchases, but I have to say that
      if I wanted to know what the premiums were on gold that I bought below $1500 an oz., I would have to look that info up because I surely do not remember, off hand.

      Thanks Michael! I've done it a few times (and made a few videos). It's a funny topic, though. People come out of the woodwork to charge the hill. Some of them have pitchforks and torches. The part most don't like is that dealers typically factor in premium whether they itemize it or not. You don't trade along the ratio. You sell your silver to them and buy the gold from them, paying premiums twice. If you're okay with that part, it's pretty easy. Cheers!

    I’ve actually got some from all 7. Mostly the US coins, followed by maples. One thing I’ve learned in the short 2 years I’ve been stacking is coin recognition is important when it comes to selling. At least that is what I’ve heard. I’ve never sold. So while I might pick up an odd ball silver coin for fun, not with gold.

    1/4 - 1/10 Britannia and Krugerrand are my favourite. I accept I pay a higher premium for fractional but I like that I don't need to sell 1oz of gold if I ever need some cash. And I don't know if this is true or not but I believe shops/people are more "willing" to buy smaller fraction of gold because the potential buyer pool is much larger if we're talking about a 200-500 coin compared to a 2000 coin. So I have hope that I'll get some of the premium back when selling it.

    1oz eagle at jm bullion is 2058

    It's like property investment. You have taxes and maintenance out the door. Hold long term and maintain is the only way to realize a profit. The difference with property is that you can make improvements during the holding period that could help long-term gains but may not. The maintenance and taxes of a property could be compared to safe handling and secure storage of your metals... Either way, there's investor/flippers, long term holders, dealers/agents, and then there's the people who use every dime to get something and hold it for life if they are able.

    I was just wondering why you don't really talk about gold bars for stacking? The premiums are are always super low. I have noticed that the 5 gram - 20 gram range stays pretty similar in premium. • @MrDavidknigge

      The bars are easier to counterfeit and have to be broken out of their assays to verify. That diminishes the resale price.

      @MrDavidknigge you can stick a bar on a sigma and feel pretty confident. Having the gold in an assay vs loose doesn't change the price I get at the We buy gold store near me. It is similar to paying extra for a NSG coin. You aren't getting a premium back. You aren't paying for nor getting back a premium on a gold bar in an assay. $2-3 over per gram is what I find and I get back spot or 98% melt. I don't know good coin shops that pay over spot

    • @2is1gold
      @2is1gold  Рік тому +1

      David mentioned it, but it's based on verification. A local shop with a good scanner won't have problems verifying them, so it's getting easier, but private sales can be difficult. That, I don't know many shops that buy them back for enough to beat the 4% buy to sell spread at the 1 oz size. Cheers!

    You didn't mention the benefit of the lower initial cost allowing for a larger quantity purchase over time. If the goal is to hold for the long term with the hope that the spot goes up appreciably, well then every ounce matters. Regarding fractionals, everyone overlooks $5 gold US Mint Commemoratives which can often be purchased for a 4% premium, but I understand that may be difficult for everyone to access. For most investors in PMs, I think your advice is wise. 😎

      @2is1gold  Рік тому +1

      I think for most people, buying what's easiest to sell is the best plan. Like you point out, Commems aren't widely available or widely understood (i.e., popular). I have a local dealer who sells $5 Commems for fire sale prices unless he has a line of people wanting them at any given time. He's said before that he doesn't like the odd size for inventory purposes, so he sells a handful of coins for a point or two over spot. There's probably more than that going on, but he sells Roosters, Sovereigns, Commems, etc. that way. His buy back on those options, though, is terrible - 5% or more back of spot last time I checked. It was worse pre-2020. My concern would be how they'd sell in a time gold wasn't hot. They're for people with a specific plan. Cheers!

    If and when I start purchasing gold, I'll be leaning towards the Canadian Maple Leaf, I think. I live very close to the Canadian border, and their quality and security features make the U.S. Mint's look like the joke that they are. Besides, at a slightly lower price than Eagles or Buffalos, I could also pick up a little silver for the same total amount as for just those, and that doesn't seem like a bad thing.

    Yet another hand goes up from the back of the class, this time from the intellectually-challenged kid. Can you explain to us, professor, why you don't stack any gold bars when they have a lower premium? Is it liquidity upon sale, premium spread, security features, something else? All of the above? Otherwise, another fantastic video, thank you!

    • @2is1gold
      @2is1gold  Рік тому +3

      When I started, dealers would break them out of the assays to run acid tests on them. That left them with non-assayed, second-hand bars that were hard to sell, so they weren't popular with buyers and their buy-back prices were really low. Today, most dealers have high-end scanners and can test pretty easily. Popularity hasn't caught up yet, probably because the U.S. Mint doesn't produce bars. But I'm more open to them now than I was when I started. I just haven't had a big reason to jump yet. Cheers!

I live where Maples are readily accepted, and I'm under the 1099 limit. Figure this plan will hold till those US Mint tubes are full and then I'll reassess.
