    I had a 1971 Volvo 145 which I loved, but the SUs were rubbish. I finally ripped them out and put in Webers, which were a dream.

      I find the Weber to be a bit less trouble overall, but they never run as well as properly set up SU's in my experience. And I guess I've never known one to be 'just right' ~ only 'good enough'. But for some folks who don't care to tinker, and don't like the smell of gas/boiling gas in the floats on hot days... the weber can be a good solution.

    I purchased a new 1961 Volvo for $2,100.00. Being young, I had to sell it. After that I bought used '59 Volvos. I also had two MG TD's prior to the Volvos. One was a RHD ! I learned how to adjust the carbs over time. My one gripe with the Volvos, was that small piece of water hose between the head and the block.

    Always great content and lively delivery, but why did the bonnet need to come off?

      They flip forwards instead of backwards, might've been to get a better view for camera?

    What kind of voodoo magic are you doing to adjust the jets at 5:31? I've got a 71 tr6 and you've got to take the top off the diaphragm and use a tool to screw in and out the needle, can never get a precise adjustment, is that an aftermod? thanks for video

      You probably have different carburetors on your TR, I have these on my Spitfire and you simply turn that nut to adjust the mixture. to the right to make it richer and left to make it leaner. Although mine are somewhat stiffer than his, as I have to use a spanner to turn them. I might be wrong, but I think the TR6 had 2" carbs fitted, which might differ from the 1 1/2" SUs on this Volvo.

      Yes, I think you have later Stromberg carbs, adjusted with an extra long Alan key down through the jet.

    • @Financmajster
      @Financmajster Рік тому

      just as guys above said, you probably have strombergs, they are a bit harder to tune because they were meant as "non adjustable/self adjustable" which just id not the case after the years

      Yes, Ed is working on SU carbs of the HS series. Your TR (likely) American export market model is equipped with twin zenith Stromberg carbs. Adjustment is made with a special tool a pin wrench. If your carbs won’t adjust satisfactorily then a rebuild is required. Which a competent home mechanic can do.

    I wonder where you found shocks for the front of a 544.

    man....whoever is responsible for final production on this is not a car guy or gal. music over explanations. filming is great. ed is great (of course). but people who watch this are actually into cars, we really don't need a soundtrack.

      The SU parts are through Burlen Fuel Systems. The damper is standard item. The bushings might require a bit of a hunt, possibly looking for cross fitments.
