Third Strike's visuals have aged so well. Imo still the best looking Street Fighter game even after the 3D entries
Still a beauty. Just like Garou mark of the wolves and King of fighters 13.
Backgrounds are a downgrade compared to 2nd impact though
Well the 3d games are the ugliest not counting sf1 lol
@@stone301 not only backgrounds, presentation in general, newgen/2nd impact was way better
@@pastorofmuppets9346 sfv looks fine 🤨
It's in the name. Street Fighter should make you feel like you're in the streets. Street fighting is an illegal sport, and the only people doing it within the world of Street Fighter are hermits, hoodlums, weirdos, fanatics, rogue paramilitary soldiers, and elites operating in the shadows. They're either people who don't fit in with society or people who twist society to their own ends. 3rd Strike is amazing because it understands that core concept and nails it aesthetically while also delivering on complex and interesting gameplay.
Yes! Aside from the excellent and deep gameplay, and amazing technical achievement from an artistic point of view, this game had a truly cohesive and believable aesthetic that genuinely felt "in place" and right. I think Max says that here, even. It just feels _right._
It’s a game not irl and they always fighting on a street
Poetic.
It's like the movie Bloodsport but more stylish
@@kalebsithnerd119 nothing alike sf have powers
I remembered the magazines back in the day, such as EGM, praising the next-level artistic qualities of SF3TS. To see a hadoken, Chun Li’s legs move, Ibuki’s clothes sway and float, the creepy but silk like movements of Necro…all fascinating to me as a young teenager.
Cap
I remember seeing Aex for the first time in a magazine back in the day..
I still have 200 issues of 90's EGM mags
Everything's relative. I remember how special it felt to be able to plays these games at home instead of the arcade. Lol
It’s still has some of the best looking animations in 2d gaming. Never get tired of looking at the game
The hip-hop element....THANK YOU FOR SPEAKING ON THAT MAX. This game absolutely nails it. No other fighting game does it like this does. Capcom's finest Era. 👌
Besides Streets of Rage,This is probably my favorite game soundtrack
And to our delight, SF6 is going back to the hip-hop. :D
Urban Reign by Namco is only other fighter with the same vibe- but sadly that's not a very traditional fighting game
@@AegixDrakanit was certainly in the right direction. Looking forward to 7 hopefully keeping it. We still haven’t touched that 3rd Strike feeling of the urban vibe.
no it didn't because hip hop is dead. SF6 takes place at the end of hip hop's popuarilty. Around 2007/2008 Rap took over hip hop as the dominant urban music. Hip Hop has been underground since. After around 2014 we now have mumble rap unfortunately.@@AegixDrakan
It's amazing how decades later and this game is still so entertaining to watch.
Capcom really needs to bring 3RD STRIKE ONLINE back it was amazing on PS3.
It was so ahead of its time it's ridiculous.
The graphics and animation
The presentation
The music OH MAN THE MUSIC!!!🔥🔥🔥
3RD STRIKE IS DEFINITELY TRULY A MASTERPIECE IN FGS
I agree. I'd definitely buy it on Steam.
3rd strikes version on ps3 and xbox was brilliant with the combo and training tutorials shame it wasn't included on the capcom collection
Lol what you talking about we have the capcom collection which has online
@@Justin-be6be I heard that that wasn't as well put together as Third Strike: Online Edition.
@@seanmcbay The net code for it is awful
3rd strike is definitely “hip-hop”/“urban”. The music is the best in the entire street fighter universe. And the art style too.
It’s definitely more personal preference because I actually didn’t like the whole hip-hop approach but that’s because I think street fighter 2 had the best soundtrack of all time.
I don't like it, I think the saga deserves more musical variety, due to the variety of characters that come from every part of the world, just like it felt in SFII. Artistically I like the Zero saga better.
@@NashDTV I would agree. Streetfighter 2's music is legendary. The presentation in this game is unique, and offers a great feel to it. Those Streetfighter EX games have the best music to me, by far.
and smooth jazz too
Good art style but I like alpha abs street fighter 4 art style more
6:24 I disagree Maximilian. I would say that starting with C++ is actually better than starting with Java or Python.
I'd agree as well, even though I was taught Java first.
C++ main here, paying respect
What about regular C
I feel like it's a crotchety old grandpa language but it makes everything else feel easier
Lol
@@taylorbee4010 Please, no! Just... NO!
I love how arguably the greatest Street Fighter game ever released commercially flopped, but then people were like "Wait, we aren't we playing this again?" I definitely feel like Fightcade helps games like 3S out
It took a good ten years for people to come around to it. It came out when arcades were dying, other than the Dreamcast it didn't get a console release for 5 years, and people were still sour on the first 2 SF3 games. I've never even seen a 3rd strike cabinet in my entire life.
@@gundammon The local arcades I've visited near me have only ever had 3rd Strike on multi-cabinets, I'd bet a large portion of the north-american population haven't seen the genuine article either
Ppl didn’t like change but I love 3 and Alpha since the beginning.
Because it was released on the Dreamcast only a dead system I didn’t even know what SF3 was until the anniversary collection came out
@@pleaseshutup7053 Dreamcast was far from dead when 3rd Strike came out on it...
The SF3 vibe is the most "street" street fighter. The hip-hop music is so good for a videogame-it actually sounds authentic. Hip-hop with video games lyrics usually sounds cheesy. I hope they bring some of that back to SF6.
I think the parry mechanic would be so sick in SF6, plus the toning down of projectile invincible moves. They just need to remove air parry and have parry deal some recoverable damage like focus absorb.
Well in Street Fighter 6, literally all of your prayers have been answered. Great call!
I freaking love the pixel art, Capcom were masters of pixel art, they made the best looking games I really wish this style would come back, I can only imagine the tremendous effort of making each character and animating them, and the backgrounds for each stage man beautiful I don't play fighting games I just love looking at them. I bought GGS, Gran blue and will most definitely buy DNF when it comes out just because I love the art style and arc sys is the closest we get to the beautiful 2d pixel art of old Capcom games.
You should buy Pocket Bravery or Blazing Strike if you really want pixel art to be a norm again
@@blackmanta2527 I never heard of them, will definitely check them out.
U
The simplest solutions are often the strongest. I still don't understand why the 3S universal parry mechanic did not become a SF staple in SF4 and SF5 (in which only a few characters can parry). It literally elaborated on defense mechanics in the simplest way possible. Hold back to turtle, or tap forward at the right time to create your own opening. It's such a simple and genius way to allow game knowledge to level the playing field at high levels of play no matter what tier your character may be.
Same reason as why focus and v shift won’t return in later installments. Parrying gives 3rd strike a uniqueness exclusive that game. I think it’s great what they did in five by giving it to only ryu or how tekken 7 and smash gave the shotos focus. Street fighter innovates and the mechanic they implement should service the game
Check out bbtag and granblue. Both have universal overheads.
Capcom may not be keen on bringing back parrying because it negates certain character arechetypes entirely. The fireball zoner is one of the greatest legacies of Street Fighter and it really can't exist in the same space as a Third Strike parry.
Maybe they could bring back parrying in Street Fighter by nerfing it closer to CvS2. However, would a nerfed parry be giving people what they want or just setting them up for dissappointment? Maybe it could work. I think it would be cool if Capcom revisited a universal parry for Street Fighter 6 but changed it up a little so its more balanced.
Keep in mind, parrying is so strong in Third Strike that it forces the players to strategize around it. A somewhat abusable tactic in Third Strike is to tap parry and immediately return to block in order to option select a footsies interaction.
Parrying doesn't neccesarily even the playing field on the tierlist either. Top/high tiers are generally better at playing around parry than mid/low/bottom tiers.
because while parry is a good mechanic. alot of SF heads HATE it. i respect parry and i think it's cool. but i hate playing 3s because of parry. it does too much to bring the game away from the things alot of people love about street fighter and takes away from the fundamental core (personally) that other SF games have. personally i love a3 and ST and if those games had parry i probably would not of liked them. in saying that 3s needs parry as the game would be stupid busted without it
@@Shodan130 old heads I tell you.
Not a game but Samurai Champloo comes the closest to capturing the Hip-hop x Japanese Culture mashup that 3rd Strike has.
I've wanted a Champloo fighting game for the longest time dude!
wut da fuk be a champloo?
@@donkeydarko77 It be one of them there anime's.
@@dropkickpherby6994 It's actually an Okinawan food. Don't know anything more about it, though, other than it's Romanized as "champuru".
Exactly bro this game has a samurai champloo type aroma to it
The hip hop and jungle/dnb element of this game is amazing. Till this day I, personally, have not played such a polished-technical fighting game. And speaking of FFA, I spent many nights there so I am sure I ran into you there on more than one occasion. Loved the owner of the spot, was such a great guy
I’m so happy someone recognised the stellar drum n bass/jungle in the ost 🎉
To fight Q
- Can't lose any rounds Q should appear after you finish Stage 7.
- Not continue. You're not supposed to lose rounds
- Get a grade D or better grade on every stage.
- Get 2 or more "Special Points." You get these from getting better grades each match.
- Get more than 5 Super Art Finishes. If you change the maximum rounds in a match, this condition's formula is basically: [Number of Max Rounds in Each Match + 2 Super Art Finishes = Condition Met] For example, if you set the matches to end after one round, you would need to use 3 Super Art Finishes throughout the game.
So complicated
That’s so much just to fight one guy 💀
I agree with the Urban aesthetic, The first time I played this was in San Francisco’s Downtown at the Sony Metreon.
Absolutely love this game so glad it's still recognised as one of the best FGs of all time.
No it is not that good at all. Horrible balance, introduced the worst mechanic in SF(parry), and just not a great entry in SF in general.

What I loved the most about 3rd stirke was the style it had. It had so much personality
I still can't get over how great Max's intro is that LETS! GO! Always makes me feel some type of way hyping me up. Makes you want to feel like a badass
Like hearing a whole crowd chant we will rock you or We are the champions while entering a stadium
Facts
Every, single, goddamn time
Also we have to remember that the best moment in fighting game history occurred in this game too so that added to the greatness of the game.
I think the simplest explanation you could give of this game's aesthetic is that it put the STREET in Street Fighter
The devs for Street Fighter 6 have pretty much confirmed that the game is going to be after ST3 so I would love for Sean to come back as a rival to Luke. I hope Laura sticks around too.
@ahmad Sorry to break it to you but...
nope no sf3 characters no hip hop nothing
@@thefreshvince879it definitely has its hip hop influence
3rd Strike is the first and only Street Fighter that felt, Street to me. It’s soundtrack play on the regular in my car and while working out.
This game was the first game i have ever played in my life, when i was young my uncle bought me a ps2 with a SF collection disc i used to play 3rd strike non stop. Back in the day doing a raging demon was so hype lol
jab, jab, ->, short, fierce = EPIC
...or you miss and get _very_ punished, lol
"They haven't replicated Hip-Hop/Urban aesthetic since!"
Me watching this days after the full SF6 reveal: 👀 OH HO HO
no it didnt amount to shit especially when its literally jusat SF2 characters and juri
One day my parrys will be on purpose
How's it been going since then?
This game has brought me so much happiness. It such a good game and the sky is the limit. I always learning new things, and exploring new options. It’s a fantastic game and I hope everyone experience the joy that this game has brought me.
What I loved about Street Fighter III was the overall feel of the world. The Street Fighter world had an almost dystopian feel to it in this game as nearly all of the original cast was gone. So it gives off the impression that we are MANY years since Street Fighter II. Leaving questions like what happened to them and the imagination of me as as 12 year old went wild. I remember my friend made up a bunch of fan fiction I believed as fact(he did this a lot) saying Sagat died(killed by Gill for not joining him) Guile(along with other characters) retired from fighting, Akuma killed Bison with the raging demon(a popular theory and honestly one I wished was canon) Dudely defeated Balrog etc.
Well, Akuma killed Bison in his debut. 😮
I love that you actually play the arcade modes. Feels like people took the “arcade” out of fighting games in recent years and hyper focused on online play.
Also damn max has one of the best kens I’ve seen.
That target combo to super is so on point. He nails it almost every time in so many situations. (Standing m. punch, fierce, fireball, Super.) Also the Akuma-esque EX air Tatsu to DP juggle.
Overall, he kills it and I'm also always stoked to see him play Ken since he's my favorite / most comfortable. I also like Akuma but he's a bit more difficult and has such low Vital.
I remember the day SF3 New Generation showed up at the arcade. It was big for about a month, then everyone went right back to Xmen vs Street Fighter. I was one of those fools back then. We all had no idea how much depth this game has. We were so wrong.
New Generations is kinda wack though
Street fighter 3 Third Strike the online Warrior series is one of the 1st videos i watched from you right up there with street fighter cross teken and I gotta say I've enjoyed every moment that you played those games online. I am glad this game shaped you the way it did, because the passion you have has been shared with a lot of us and have gotten so many new faces into the FGC. Third Strike is and always will be one of my Favorite games and my favorite Street Fighter. Shine on, Dood!
Making fighting game AI has gotta be a hell of a thing.
First time I saw third strike I was in disbelief. Very unique SF Characters I have never seen before with cool move sets I fell for it immediately and begged my mom for quarters.
I decided to give fighting games and actual honest try when GGST came out, and since then I've been catching up on all the classics and one of the things that impressed me when I saw 3rd Strike was how well it aged visually. The animations are crisp, the character design are great, the screen isn't cluttered. Obviously I can't speak to the mechanics of it, but it looks amazing.
I hope the guy who did the Songs for the character select and The Intro vocals comes back To Street Fighter some day.
Dude hearing about huge screens showing matches of the big machines sounds so sick man.
Dude yeah man yeah man dude

The opening theme is legendary!
I've said this before - but I came from that 90's arcade time and TOTALLY missed this game until early last year. I instantly fell in love! If I had to play 1 fighting game for the rest of my life, this would definitely be it.
3:54 Free public "jumbotron-like" displays of _SFIII: 3rd Strike_ matches at an arcade?! Wow, that's some exceptional service. They didn't have that at any of the local arcades I used to hang around!
My favorite 🔥💯🎮👏🏾
“LET’S GET IT ON NOW!!!”
The name of the rapper who did the voices and rap music for this game is named Infinite. 🇨🇦 rapper. Search his music video for “gotta get mine”.
I'm trash at 3S i've never even completed the arcade mode yet I keep coming back to it the gameplay is so smooth.
Jesus that thumbnail art is dope as hell
I genuinely don't understand how it could even remotely fail. This game is 15 years ahead of its time.
Third Strike, MvC2 and CvS2 are the holy trinity for me
The fact that SF6 takes place after 3rd Strike, can't wait how the story will take place.
We don't know that for sure.
Third strike has always been my favorite main line street fighter game right after alpha 2
By far my favorite street fighter, everything about it from the aesthetics to the soundtrack is amazing.

The esthetics and music work so well together, even the roster fits so well together, even when you have necro, gill and twelve, it all still fits as a group and vibe and tone. I love that a lot of the stages are characters just fighting in the neighborhood and it all has that street vibe.
The roster disappointing but I agree with everything else you said

Definitely one of the best street fighter games and it has a amazing soundtrack that i always include in my playlist for when i just feel like drawing for a couple of hours.
Max is right here. 2:00-3:00 hip hop is difficult to translate because people dont and still dont understand what this means, especially for fighting games. For example, some of MK 11 tried to do this and even similar things have been in GBFVS.
I have 3rd Strike on my Xbox 360. Was playing it last night. Easily my favorite of the Street Fighter series.
Edit: Wait you can interrupt his resurrection? Why didn’t anyone tell me that before?!
Dunno how often it's done, although I'd assume many players know about it since info travels fast nowadays. GIll has a projectile barrier _and_ physically pushes you away during the animation, so interrupting it requires very specific actions and/or at least premeditated positioning, iirc. Notice Max does only a fierce DP to ensure he nails it.
this will always be one of the greatest fighting games of all time and max always makes it look even better
I was a freshman in college when this game came out. It took over our student rec room by storm (right next to the Gaunlet Legends machine). Still, to this day, the closest to perfection any fighting game has come.

The fact I can play all these great street fighter games on my switch is simply amazing what a time to be alive 😎🤙🏾
I literallty played 3rd Strike in the arcade every day from 99-05
Funny story I didn't even know this game existed until I saw Alex in tatsunoko vs capcom
I recently got to play 3rd strike for the first time. Me being new to the game played my first arcade ladder on the easiest difficulty. When I went up against Sean he spent the whole fight spamming the move where he goes "tornaa". So going through the whole fight hearing "tornaa tornaa tornaa tornaa tornaa" was pretty frustrating.
“yatta ze! ✌️”
I have good memories with this game. Every morning before school, my mom would take me to get a donut, and the arcade machine for the game was there. I’ve seen so many people play it and I remember fondly just seeing all the characters. The style, presentation, the cool super moves are stuff that stuck with me.
I never noticed how Urien and Gill are the SF take on Pillar men from JoJo. Hell, Urien's stage had the stone mask cravings all over the place lol.
as a 3rd strike player, you are the best! Also the thumbnail art is fire.
My number 1 arcade go to, back in the day. The days when you got rep for being dominant, and when you put those quarters down, the other players got scared. Fun times😊
I wish we could have Third Strike, but still have the HUD and some aesthetic elements frim Second Impact. Some stages are so beautiful in SI. The aesthetic of Second impact is also a little brighter feeling so I wish that would be in 3S too. Basically, I wish I didn't have to Palmod 3S 😂
Its grade 10, im 15 and its my second year training and fighting muay thai. For the past 15 years my nick name and ring name is Ryu! Ironically, back home in the hood in Dominican everyonee has a nickname. And mine was always El Dragon!..this game reminds me of my brother who took his life. An amazing OST...the art work. Just the best SF ever
Hand drawn sprites/pixels in SF game will always hold my heart. Long Live SF3.
I remember playing this in my buddys basement on his dreamcast for hours on end, this game and CvS2 were games we spent nights on trying to polish combos and learn new ways to get past eachothers defenses.
Damn Ken ripped through Alex like I rip through a potato chip bag when the munchies hit. I miss the arcade experience so much.
Max the real reason why no one knew about street fighter 3 and double impact is because not too many arcades had those locally. Not many people even knew about street fighter 3 until 3rd strike. Personally I went years withiut seeing it until one day I told my friend how I wished there were a third game in the main series after playing Capcom vs. SNK. He literally looked at me and said Jay you're about to see some crazy shit, let's go ti Nickel Nickel. I didn't even know what this place was but sho nuff this dude took me there and I saw Third Strike for the first time and was blown away. My first character was Remy.
oh man....family fun was the best. I remember cruising up there from SD on Friday nights. Miss those days and miss those big chunky 3rd strike machines!
This game could be an interesting topic for Triple K.O.
-"starting with C++ is not a good sign"
So true man, so true...
Sometimes the Sean computer just pops off out of nowhere. Plus the Ryu cpu is like the only one that will actually try to zone you out so if you’re going for parries definitely fight him
I miss playing at family fun, SHGL, and arcade infinity so much!! Those were some of my most fun gaming memories! So many good players of every genre; fighting, music, racing etc!
As I’m a 2000’s kid, SF4 for me is the fighting game I’ve played the most. It was revolutionary as it brought back Street fighter for a whole new generation. Get a lot of memories just by playing it.
That thumbnail makes me want to scream, LET'S GO JUSTIN!!
Hearing the Family Fun Arcade story is wild to me. In the area I grew up in there wasn't much of a video game scene. I was pretty much the odd one out for playing games until I was almost done with high school, during the 360 era, and at that point the community had mostly moved to online. It's a shame I never got to experience something like that
Third strike will always be my go to. It got me through college. I played it in the campus arcade. I didn’t like it at first, but after getting it on dreamcast, I started to appreciate it. It’s prob the fighting game I’ve grinded the most
The OST is a masterpiece.
i'll never get bored of watching 3rd Strike matches, game is so cool
Me and my friends used to play a lot of SF3 Third Strike back on the Dreamcast and arcades back back when I was in College. Man, we had a blast back in those days.
I hope SF6 is basically 3rd Strike 2.0 in the way RE 8 is is RE4 2.0. Bring back the hip-hop/drum & bass aesthetic and focus heavily on passing the torch to a largely new cast of characters.
Look at Max, hitting us with the 3rd Strike feels.
Where I'm from, at the time, Tekken 3 and Tekken Tag took all the fame at our local arcade, and nobody cared much for 3rd Strike, if only to pass the time while waiting for their turn on the Tekken queue.
That means we mostly had the cabinet for ourself, me and my friend, and we would fight the shit out of each other. He was maining Akuma, while I was having a ton of fun with that new char, Makoto.
As a wrestling fan, the first time I saw Alex hit that flying Tornado DDT...it was like this Street Fighter is a different animal. And the fact that the Hyper Bomb is a different Super Art depending on what direction the target is facing? Love this game.
12:53 Wow the synchronization
SF3 has aged like a timeless renaissance painting FFS. What a STUNNING BEAUTY, visually, stylistically, audio-wise, 🕹gameplay-wise. Every aspect of the game is both timelessly classic, and FRESH AF, not a spec of dust on it💿. (Except the original bitrate arcade audio 🎤📉📞lol)
But the PS2 Arranged OST ? Masterpiece. The masterfully comprehensive online edition by Iron Galaxy ? The most beautiful and well presented of them all, but the PS2 arranged OST is better than OE “updated” OST.
