NIce set up. IMHO, if you're like me, the first thing to beat, is your fear of them waking up with invincible reversals, super arts or drive reversal. I know it's silly to think they'll always spend the ressources but, every time I'm on the offense, I feel like I'm the one being 50/50ed because they have tools to universally end my pressure. Like I'm my own worst enemy lol
I have a couple of notes on that actually. The first one being my practical advice: you can’t be so worried about them doing a reversal that you never run offense. I remember losing to a lot of Ken players in SFV just because I respected their DP way too much. A second note, based on research for a video I’m not sure if I’ll publish (because I’m not sure how to make it interesting), as Marisa we should be baiting a reversal anywhere from 25-35% of the time on one of our Dima knockdowns. So this advice is basically, yeah, you should bait reversals fairly often, but don’t do it out of fear, do it because it’s a gigantic win condition for us to block one.
@@ZachHenke You're completely right. Beside, every time I'm not going on the oki offense, I'm not practicing the timing either. It's just that changing your habits/set of mind, takes a bit longer than learning inputs or changing your flowchart. But, I do agree, it's something I should be working on.
Sounds good that's the one button I underutilize on Marisa for sure. I normally play neutral with 2mp, 6mp, 5hk and gladius/superman. I'd rarely use this button so I should play around with the training mode to try to land more of these.
Yo man, love you videos! I’ve added this tech to my arsenal and I’m loving it. Any chance you can cover a video on using her Scotum as an anti-safe jump tool? I’ve been watching some Tampa Never Sleeps weekly’s where some Marisa mains made deep runs. LazyBoredom really made Wake-up OD Scotum look really powerful to discourage safe jumps in the latest TNS stream. Would love to hear your insights on this tech and what options it can cover.
I’ll look into it. I had thought before that I had labbed it a bit and for some reason I had come to the conclusion that it wasn’t very good. I’ll have to dig into it more. I’m currently watching LazyBoredom’s matches from TNS, there are definitely some things I want to look at.
@ appreciate it mate! Honestly can’t blame you. Her Scotum leaves a lot to be desired outside of command grab. Feels like it’s just throw fodder and a punching bag for low forward drive rush. I’ve been trying to theory craft on its use cases outside of avoiding stun. Either way, Capcom could cough up some buffs for it lol.
@@venomtang It’s not exactly the same as DR 4HP, but it is similar. And on wake up of course they can super/reversal out. But that’s just part of the RPS.
I don’t have a video on it right now, but most situations that you have plus frames on block can be used for that purpose. For example, if you hold back after making them block DR 5HP or DR 2MP.
You essentially want the set ups where you're at least +2 on block (in my experience), +1 (like after a DR stHP) isn't really enough. You can get thrown from this unless they do a _super_ long delay tech. One set up that comes to mind is if you get a Dima KD and you DR crMP for pressure. Done right, that'll net you +2 and then you can start playing the throw/shimmy/pressure on block game. Come to think of it, you could also do F+HK DR into crMP on block and give you a shimmy set up too.
@@ZachHenke No you’re right, just in my experience I’ve been getting thrown! Maybe I’ve been unlucky. Throw range is definitely a factor too (theirs). Actually I think it’s because I press my counter throw button too early 😅😢
Definitely worth practicing. I was making a conscious effort to use it more during my session today. The session maybe didn’t go real well, but those situations certainly did.
@@prawnyb Guard all, mash jab on block reversal and just rep out doing command grab against their button and whatever strike option you want to score a counter hit with.
What happens if you try towards heavy kick as oki after a knockdown and they wake up reversal with dp? You showed it wins over mashing a button but does it win against dp?
No, a DP will always beat a meaty. But the nice thing about this is that because we’re not spending any drive gauge on the setup there’s no harm in just holding back to block a DP if we think they want to bust out.
@@venomtang No. Meaty buttons won’t beat wake up DP. There are some setups Marisa has to use some of her armor moves to beat DPs, but certainly not any buttons. She can time DR cr.MP to beat wake up drive reversal, though. Maybe that’s what you’re thinking of.
@@venomtangnot Marisa, but some characters have setups where you can do meaty DR jab and it will gives you plus if your opponent blocks but is also safe from reversals. Easiest one being Deejay since he has a st Lp that recovers one frame faster than other fastest jabs in the game
Good stuff, shockingly, I hardly ever use this good move, I'll be adding it in
Thanks for the tip, I didn't know this was a safe DR cancel.
There aren’t a ton of them in the game, and there are even fewer that won’t get hit by reversal jab.

Very good in pressure situations. I think Goldbanks does a very good job of showing how it can be used.
