Where have you been! I am so subscribing! So pleasant to listen to your information. You give every possible angle on this bird even manufacturing info on the umx line up. If you do all your videos like this I’m so subscribing. You get to the point and I never have to fast forward all the BS to get to the answers I’m looking for because there is no BS. It just kept answering all my questions until the end. Thank you!!!!
A very good review, Adam. Nice bit of de-bugging too, with the expo trick. Also, it was interesting to know how HH have 'tiered' their UMX offerings; I was fearing this was setting a whole new vision for the future of UMX and HH had given up the larger i.e. ~30 inch models... like my Aero Commander. Sorry to see that you guys will be lumbered with remote ID units in the near future... where America leads, we here in the UK tend to follow. Hope you'll be having a happy New Year, team Model AV8R.
Thank you Gina! It is interesting, they always have been levels to the ultra micros but they call all of them UMX. I think they are thinking about making the names/levels coincide. They will still be doing more of the UMX/bigger ones. I like those most of all too!! Happy new year to you and Alan!
Thank you, Adam for the suggestion of adding 75% expo for the rudder. I think that is a great suggestion. I am looking forward to my first flight of my Christmas present, the umx Twin Otter. I also have the big brother, which is a smooth flyer. I enjoy all my eFlite umx planes; the Timber, the Turbo Timber, the Timber X, the Pitts and the A-10 Thunderbolt. LOL
@@ModelAV8RChannel As a private pilot who has lost my medical due to A-fib 10+ years ago ! I have been having fun with Rc airplanes for the last 3 years. I appreciate your reviews and how you share your thoughts. You are very organized and professional. Thanks again. 😎
As always a really nice walk through Adam. I find that the umxs have their place and there is clearly a market for them. There has been a real saturation of them this year for multiple reasons. Im a little over it, but as you know my preference is to larger more stable aircraft. Alas, I digress lol. This is a nice little plane that performs well and you made some great suggestions to make it better. Lots of fun seeing you put it through its paces!
Adam. You sure do make it difficult to not like this UMX. 😆. So cool that you have hooked up with HH. They are a great group of folks that continue to set the bar up high that in the end we All reap the benefits from. Congratulations and wish you and Heidi the best for the New Year🎉. 😉
@@ModelAV8RChannel Adam- Happy New Year as well. UMX OTTER-- I got weak today and picked one up at my local hobby store.😆 The last one they had, got lucky.... Look forward to getting it out and putting it through its paces. :)
I have one and your right that rudder/differential thrust situation is strange at first. I like to fly with coordinated turns and rudder also. I'll have to try that expo trick
Good review, Adam. I will definitely be changing the rudder expo on my NX8 before I maiden my UMX Otter on the floats this winter (if the wind ever dies down). Thank you very much. 👍🏻🙂

Hi Adam, watching ( again) this in Malaysia & loving it. There was a sale here on this & the other umx aircraft so i bought 2… the Twin Otter & the little A-10. They should be at home by the time we get back next week. I will try the 75% expo on the Otter. Regards to you both
You did it I just purchased one thru your link looks great I have the E-flite umx pitts , umx turbo timber so this will be a nice addition too great videos
Very well explained as usual Adam. Wonderful job filming Heidi. I hope you remembered to switch on the de-icing prior to the flight. I love my Full size Twin Otter and even better, the very similar Nova Twin from X-Fly. I have flown in the Otters whilst filming in Papua New Guinea using very remote strips with some up on a mountain side. At one time we landed in a very remote jungle strip, removed the seats & loaded the Otter with timber to fly to a small village 20 mins. Flight vs a 10 day hike. Amazing plane. Well done guys. Greetings from a very warm Malaysia.
Hi Adam! I Hope you had a Merry Christmas! Really enjoyed this video on the UMX Twin Otter. Derik has the bigger one and loves it. I also noticed my pic on the wall behind you. A swimming review Adam. Great setup tip for the diff thrust, it's quite obvious in flight and on the ground. Heidi, camera, 👍. Still waiting for a 2/3s Trojan ;). AirHammer out!!
Very good video Adam, Thanks for the Expo Tip I will give it a try, I will add a few grams of weight to = the 27grams of weight of the 800mah 1cell pack just to keep factory CG.
Thanks Adam, great demo of the very capable and good looking Twin Otter. I just don't like that if you want one of the UMX planes you better buy it when they come out because they discontinue them so quickly.
Excellent video with very useful information, Adam! I'm trying to get the 1.2 Eflite BNF Twin Otter, but out of stock until February! Not surprisingly LOL, I plan to put bigger Bush tires on it within reason... Buddy says Hi to Piper. 😎
Awesome flight 🛫 and such a cool little Airplane ✈️ I really like the UMX Airplanes and this one is definitely gonna be added to the collection 😎 Thank ya Adam for such a informative video. Thanks to Ms. Hiedy for her camera skills, and thanks Mr. Scott for lending the Airplane to ya. Hope y'all had a awesome Christmas and have a good New Years, and again, thank you for uploading these videos! You're setup page has helped 2 of my buddies and me get our stuff setup basically dead on for our Madden Flights, again thank you! 🛫 ✈️ 🛬
I actually find that with rudder expo. At max 100% is best. To make one motor stop you need to almost go to max on the stick. Which seems more normal. They should recommend this in the manual.
Is it just me or were you giving it a ton of sub trim in flight? I’ve read more than a few clicks is too much and to land the plane and manually centre the surfaces. Not that I disagree though as unless necessary, I would rather not have to mechanically trim. For example, on my Ultrix, 600 I have a whole lot of down elevator, but it flies like it’s on rails so I don’t really feel the need to trim it manually. Thoughts? Thanks for a good review. Appreciate it. I’m waiting for mine and I’m pretty sure I love it because I absolutely love the Ultrix.
Very nice Adam, I didn't see a knife edge did you even try one with it? one guy tried but it didn't go well. I am thinking it could maybe do it. Does seem to do most everything else well. thanks for sharing and congrats on the HH part. You should be hooked up with them your content is the best out there.
Wow Chris...thanks man! We are humbled by those kind words bro! Yeah I tried knife edge...not quite enough power with only one side making power. Still crazy capable for a 1s bird.
Nice review Adam and Heidi, it's strange that some planes just don't appeal to a pilot!! For me it's planes like the Trojan and unfortunately the Twin Otter, I'm not sure why but they just don't push my buttons!! Maybe it's the Tricycle landing gear that puts me off, Saying that your review showed what a very capable UMX plane this is in your hands!! And a great bit of experimentation to sort out the differential thrust and getting it to feel like a traditional rudder!! Great video both 😀👍
Thanks so much Ian! Yeah man different strokes for different folks. For me the plane so many like that really doesn't do anything for me is the Valiant. It is a GREAT flying plane, but I prefer my high wing planes with big A tires!
It should. I haven't flown those, but I've flown several planes with differential thrust, and just by the nature of how it works trim and expo affect it.
Great video Adam! This is the first one I’ve watched from you and I’m now subscribed. A question: is there a good reason the UMX Twin Otter won’t work as a belly lander? My field is rough grass so the small landing gear won’t work well. Just wondering what you think. Happy New Year!
Hey Mike! Welcome man, glad you a part of the model AV8R family! I don't see why not, they come off pretty easy. The brake stops the props...should work fine as a belly lander.
@@ModelAV8RChannel In any case, I think many in Europe are disappointed with the UMX Twin Otter because of this. For me personally it would have been so much better with Rudder. I understand Horizon Hobby's decision. But somehow not... I would have liked the UMX Twin Otter with rudder. And maybe with flaps that you can adjust by hand to fly indoors? That would be something new 🙂
