I would have really liked to have seen how you got the bearing shaft out and what it all looks like. Otherwise a great video...

Amazing video. Thanks for having great camera work and really breaking down each step. This saved me a lot of money

When attempting this repair, make sure you purchase a thin walled 7/8" deep well socket. They cost about 8-10 on Amazon and can also be found at certain automotive stores as well. The repair should only take 20-30minutes tops for the novice and about 10 or less for a proficient handyman.

I ran into this same problem that my socket would not fit, but instead just used an M8 (I think) coarse threaded bolt that was longer then the one that comes to put the final cover plate on and used that to spin the shaft tight into place, In reality you only need to get it kind of tight and then with the last cover plate you can get the final tightening on it. (you can take the replacement bolt or the bearing shaft to the store to size a proper bolt to use) I also replaced mine without taking it fully apart like you see in some other videos, it was a little tricky to get the bolt back in and aligning the holes and the bolt but in the end got it to work (used the help of a second person, not sure I could have done it alone). I think overall it took me under an hour to do the replacement and I am not super handy at all.

You left out the shaft removal and installation. I'm betting you didn't replace it without the special tool required since a socket (unless you grind it down) will not fit in the hole. (Had the pleasure of discovering that mid repair).

shoot! So a standard socket won't work?

Thanks for the lovely, clear explanation. I'm going to try and order the part now.

You skipped numerous steps including how to get the shaft out, what size socket needed, how you got everything back together again. What may seem obvious to you is not obvious to those watching this video who have never done this before. Suggestion is to add some notes in the description to help us amateurs do this correctly. I did find another video that gave better descriptions, but yours would be good too if it added in those extra steps. Thanks.

Do you need to add oil or grease after we replaced bearing it still squeeks?

The bearing replacement kit (479332) is fairly expensive and probably contains a lot of parts you really won't need to replace. My local parts supplier was asking $279 for the kit. I bought just the bearing and shaft for $35 off of eBay. They were exact replacements and I had no problems with the installation.

What's the sense of doing a repair video if you aren't going to show all the steps to repair, like shaft replacement?

I can't get the first screw out with the hex key, it just turns and turns...

I installed the parts but found that the angle that the shaft hole and the outer hole didn't align well. I got it in and all replaced by pushing on the drum assembly a bit. The squeech is gone but there is now a rumble which sounds like the drum may be out of line. Think it might just be an additional adjustment needed, or am I screwed?

OK he missed a lot on the video of how to do it...an easy way to do it is simple ...take the lid off pull away from wall ...lay it down on bearing side everything will disassemble and stay in place have the tools required reassemble correctly through in 15 to 20 minutes stand it back up put the lid on dry your clothes great dryer...we done another one 9-22 2022 I showed my new trainee this he said that's a lot easier than tech sheet directions

After 11 years the bearing started to go out. Easy repair. Best dryer I've ever owned actually.

I’ve had one for more than 10 years. Replaced this bearing once. Very efficient dryer actually.

Agreed 12 years second bearing replacement. Having to bend over to put clothes in the dryer is dumb to me. Love my Fisher and Paykel top loaders.
