Awesome playing. I too wanna cover this song after your playing. What's your approach bud? Do u work out the parts on songster first or how does it go? Sick tone. Awesome playing. I am dreading to learn this epic song, part by part..... To perfection
Thank you! I usually transcribe the songs by ear. If it's a well-known song that people have done tabs for before, I'll check them out first but do any corrections as necessary. I have gotten much better at transcribing over the last 6-7 years or so, so now I trust myself and my ear (almost) completely ;)
@@IsacDanielsson u r gifted like all the others who can play anything by ear.... The very fact u picked up this awesome band with awesome arrangements, speaks volumes... I can never dream of playing Bleed, spiteful snake, pineal gland optics, lethargica... Many others.... But I love the band and their direction... Thank u for covering them ✨✨✨🙏🙏🙏
@@rajeshkapoor8549 I think my only gift is the willingness to _practice_ playing by ear. I used to be terrible, but many hours of hard work have paid off 🙂
Thank you! Well, EQ is only one piece of the puzzle, and that piece largely depends on what bass you have. The Warwicks have quite a lot of (hard/compact/punchy/whatever you want to call it) mids, which really is the start. If your bass is more mellow you might have to boost somewhere in the low mids to construct something similar. You also need to pick very hard, without hurting yourself of course. I call it "restrained heavy picking", because that's what it feels like. Not bashing the instrument, but maybe like an 8 out of 10 if 10 is the hardest you could possibly pick. I used quite an aggressive profile on the Kemper, with lots of super harsh mids. I can't remember what it was, but I think something like a Darkglass. Then I put that through a 1x15 cab, which scoops out the mids around 500 Hz like crazy. If you need any more help, just let me know!
IsacDanielsson Thanks for the insights. I generally use a Warwick thumb or stingray hh through an ebs comp/b7k/boss graphic eq. I feel like I'm missing a frequency or something I scoop 400 Hz pretty hard, boost around 1K and 3.5K. Maybe I need to boost somewhere else? Maybe 800 Hz? Or is it really that I don't have a 500 fader and only a 400 to scoop? I just don't seem to get the same punch as you are getting with your streamer or your precision deluxe. Your P bass tone is CRUSHING.
Those basses should give you a great starting point! I actually used to own the EBS comp way back, but I sold it because I thought it killed my tone. Though that might have been some error on my part, haha. Ok, so important question first. Is your signal going straight into your interface, or are you sending that through an amp and cab? If it's straight into interface you have to use a cab sim of some sort for this type of tone. Actually, probably the only thing that all my heavier tones have in common is the 1x15 cab from EZ-Mix. That thing is a rumbling monster. But like I said, it cuts 500Hz like crazy, so you shouldn't cut around there with your EQ. Cab sims are a world that I have only started exploring in the last year or so. They make an enormous difference. If you have the ability to record your bass tone I could give you even further, more specific advice :)
IsacDanielsson Appreciate it man! I'm going through a 2x10 ported cab, or a 610 ampeg svt classic. I think you are onto something with the 15 cab Sim playing a large role in the depth of your sound. If I can find some time to record something I will surely send it on over for critique haha.
epic what u say ... what is better 35 vs 34 scale for lowest A not lower... only on the on edge like A as the lowest string... cause u using WW which is 34 scale and sounds so perect in A sharp like u play here and no 35 inch scale.... Sound is brutal
Thanks! The longer scale helps keeping the string tight, but you can still make good tones if you have a 34" scale. Nowadays I have a Dingwall which is even 37" on the lowest string! The Warwicks have lots of mid range, which is probably what you are hearing when you say it sounds brutal. Use a thick string, probably .135 should be good enough for A. Make sure you have a nice bass, maybe a Warwick, Spector, Musicman, Dingwall, some of the more expensive Ibanez basses... If you now how to dial in the amp you can get away with cheaper basses too. I know lots of bands who play in A with 34" basses. Check my other covers, like Prayer Position (A on a 34"), Golden Cufflinks (G# on a 34"), Beautiful Nightmare (G# on a 34") to see that it can be done. Let me know if you have more questions!
@@IsacDanielsson :)) i had ww bubinga germany pro 6 string, thats what i meant by that brutal sound .. i know how they sound and its 34 inch scale so mostly its not about tension 34vs35 that one inch really i think cant make so much difference... i had to sell it cause of that stupid weight... i am just saying i think 35 inch scale is overated :) yeah i know u have dingwall now multiscale is nice but in terms of 34vs35 i dont know ... it seems overrated....
@@xx2 Ok! Yeah, 35" helps a little bit but it's not a huge difference. You can notice it, but it's not as drastic as on a Dingwall :) I think it's more about the bass and how it sounds, to make a good clear tone on the low string.
@@IsacDanielsson i dont even think u even notice that.... its about bass ... yeah the multiscale is something else .... thats really shinning .... but u have warwick or marleux and they have one of the best B i have ever heard and 34 inch scale mate....
like look the sound of your WW or when i had mine pro.... 34 inch scale and i could go lower and still it was brutal.... also Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne had or has his Warwicks thumbs in GCGCF thats pretty low.... its about overall built quality. but yeah i love the looks and multiscaling of Dingwall they are cut through the mix well? Cause i heard not cool stuff about that..... I know Warwick can cut through almost anything...

Thanks! :) I'm thinking about doing something from the new Sikth album, actually!
My god! SIKTH?! My favorite band. Can you do some of their earlier stuff? Maybe "Skies of the Millennium Night"?
