I use Telegram often and wish all my family transitioned fully. Telegram is just like Discord, but better (depends on what you do) but discord is really good for calls which Telegram is catching up
Telegram is a great messenger. There's a lot of cool features, like fully customizable UI colors; stickers (animated and video stickers included) that you can easily make yourself; actually safe and private, video messages; ability to transfer files (almost all types of files) up to 2GB; there are channels, groups, awesome bots, and lots of useful shit.
Signal (the app) stores less afaik, but I don't think it has the same features as for "hiding phone numbers" and such. Think right now having both is the way to go.
Signal only requires you to have a phone number to create an account. After that you don't need it anymore. Signal lacks the near discover features and some more niche unique to telegram things. Signal is basically a de-facebooked whatsapp featureset wise. Also you're correct they store less. IIRC the US gov asked signal for user data on someone and they complied with all the data they had on that user which was the account creation date. (Mental outlaw made a good video on this)
I think Signal has backdoors for NSA though, or something like that. Pavel Durov mentioned that on his channel. Basically that Signal was created by one of the secret services
Key thing here is that the founder of Telegram owns the private keys and at any time can change his mind and sell/give them. They can also be stolen. This thing cannot happen with Signal because no one owns the private keys except from the users. Use Signal. Maybe this video is a sponsored one but when we talk about privacy, Signal is the way to go.
I think Pavel Durove pretending to be not good for Russian . I think Pavel working with Russian government . And now he probably in Russian government .
I sympathize with you and the Ukrainians, at the same time I have researched about the Ukraine-Russia geo-political situation at hand, and I kind of get what both sides want. The downside of Russia is that they have chosen war as their tactics. Just to be clear, war is not justified, but there are double-standards when we see the Western nations (USA specifically) does the same in countries like Yemen (which is happening at the moment and far worse), Afghanistan, Lybia, DRC and it doesn't get the same coverage since it won't serve their interest. Whether we want to admit it or not, the West has benefited from wars and ravaging countries in Africa and the Middle East. There are two sides of the coin.
dude russia had been trying to not choose war as their tactics for the past 10 years - with only 1 very simple requirement: no nato here, please; if there's nato in ukraine, the flight path to Moscow of their nukes is 60 minutes. How is using force against an idiot that doesn't listen to you and sabotages your entire existence, is not justified? you have shown the sign of intelligence and researched the americans' interventions to realise that the west is not that friendly and nobel, however this is not how the majority think - they are only united in their hatred against something/someone fuelled by an external force that itself stays in stealth, while manipulating people into that hate playing on their insecurities. there were so many warnings, attempts at diplomacy, all futile - well now you get what you wanted. It's retarded to start poking bear and start crying how bad the bear is when it retaliates because it needs to protect itself.
Photos with dog and middle finger have nothing to do with Ukraine. In first case Pavel told that government wanted him to ban page of Alexey Navalniy and he refused. If I remember correctly middle finger was for the company that wanted to buy vk, I think it was Sberbank or Gazprom but I may remember things wrong. Also development of Telegram has began before he fled Russia, I think it was in 2012 and by 2014 one third of vk team was working on Telegram.
Important fact: telegram is not encrypted by default, you have to specifically turn on secret chat, so what youre saying in this video is a bit misleading.
Yes, it's cool but what is the business model of telegram how they support the company operations, because if they don't take investment and don't sell their users data and no ads where they get money? 🤔
Signal is nowhere near Telegram in terms of features. While Signal is barebones, Telegram is a whole social media universe in itself with bots, better app clients, public channels, unlimited cloud storage, unlimited groups which aren't possible on Signal.
@@NayamAmarshe I dont care about all that shit telegram has, I just want it to be encrypted and work. Everything signal is "missing" is not a bug, its a feature. I wont even look at it if it's not e2e by default
@@yoman9446 The problem is that encryption doesn't work in reverse. The day you found out you should have used encryption, then it's too late. It is not my threat model yet...
I just dont understand why end-to-end encryption is optional in the app, by default you have an encrypted connection to the servers, but on server side they can see the content of your messages. The app is open source which is good, but what happens with the data on server side is still a out of your hands.

Please don't call Telegram encrypted, without explaining that chats aren't end-to-end encrypted by default. This is the biggest thing that gets Telegram in trouble with the "media". Anti-telegram infosec individuals are very vocal that Telegram "claims to be encrypted" but "it's not E2EE by default". They whine about this under headlines like "Telegram isn't Private, don't use it". This severely hurts adoption. Let's not give them any ammo to state that people are using Telegram cloud chats under the impression that they're E2EE.
I love Durov. He is a good person, strong and moral. Good character. I also like Putin. They have two different opinions on how things should be run. it says 2014 in the CNN clip you used. suppose it's fake news

No worries Aaron, you're better off without this 50% and I think due to your stand on the situation you'll gain even more!

Hey nice video. What's the music you're using in the background ? Around 3 min.
Telegram could add a subscription fee (monthly and annually) to use the application to fund its operation.
It's started to get some funding for ads. How it does this is interesting. I'm not well-versed on that topic.
Thank you
Where is the startup you bought ? :/
The title is cringe.

Why use Telegram when there's Signal which is even more private. It has e2e encryption by default and backend that is open source.
Signal is nowhere near Telegram in terms of features. While Signal is barebones, Telegram is a whole social media universe in itself with bots, better app clients, public channels, unlimited cloud storage, unlimited groups which aren't possible on Signal.

Vk isnt Durov's anymore unfortunately
signal vs telegram
I can audit the signal code base. It's open source. I can prove that the service is encrypted.
can you do the same with telegram?
yes
No, but so far we haven't heard anything about telegram leaking information about their users, at least in Russia
nice
Telegram does not have 500 million users , it has 1 billion dollars .

E2E would be great but it's very restricting. You cannot have cloud sync with E2E, which is one of Telegram's greatest features.
@@NayamAmarshe exactly
just encrypt your message again
so the server cant read it
Telegram or Signal?
If you want E2E group chats then Signal, if you want cloud sync, unlimited storage and unlimited groups then Telegram.
Signal for its better privacy, telegram for its features
@@Zagoorland Not privacy but security. Signal's privacy is worse when it comes to joining groups, everybody can see your number.
