Took away the exact opposite from anyone else from Dual_EC_DRBG (ie everyone else went 'listen to cryptography experts, don't make weird choices' while Durov went 'ignore cryptography experts, make weird choices'.
e.g. Telegram uses:
- an encryption protocol that was designed specifically to deliver authentication but doesn't do so
- a concatenation system for its MACs (to overcome the lack of authentication) instead of an HMAC exposing it to some of the edge weaknesses of SHA
- an encrypt-and-MAC system that could expose information about the plain text while having all sorts of edge failures.

Telegram is now banned in Russia, BECAUSE it is still private. Durov is totaly refused to give codes and access of telegram to russian Federal Security Service. And goverment block telegram in Russia.
The local Communications Supervision Agency tried to block it without any success. Instead, they banned nearly 20 millions of Amazon and Google IP addresses which are providing some additional advantages to Telegram. As a result, the huge amount of banks, stores and services almost collapsed. Hell, even some government institutions. My friend couldn't be able to receive a scholarship because the transaction just stuck. And the funny thing is that Telegram is still working just fine _without_ any VPN or proxy by using its own bypassing methods. What a pathetic piece of shit our government is, lmao.

Yeah, Durov tends to kick up a lot of dust in the hopes that persuades people Signal/WhatsApp can't be trusted like suggesting that WhatsApp doesn't have E2EE. On the other hand he also points to WhatsApp's lack of cross-device sync without mentioning that the E2EE option in Telegram has even worse problems with this.
@@eldrago19 check the year. WhatsApp didn't have E2E yet. For Telegram's E2E, those chats are not meant to be synced, that's what cloud chats are for. E2E chats are meant to be available only on your phone.

I do think that WhatsApp is also unusable as a secure messenger because it is closed source. If it was open source it would be _usable_ though still a long way from ideal.
As for any case of data hacking in Telegram, I find it beyond belief that a UK based company on that scale would not have received a Technical Compatability Notice. Fortunately, very conveniently for Durov, a TCN comes with a gag order so he would be unable to tell you if he had received one and could continue to claim that "Telegram has disclosed exactly zero bytes of user data".
@@Sonico98 fair enough, WhatsApp only had the Signal Protocol on Android and was rolling it out to iOS. However, I still feel it is a little rich to claim that you have cross-device sync and E2EE when it is an either/or choice.
(and frankly at this point if you don't have E2EE on everything and you aren't using user data for advertising purposes then what the hell is going on with your company - no you can implement cross-device sync with E2EE, just look at ProtonMail)

I actually came to know telegram by chance, since then i rarely used whatsapp again. Telegram is much more customizable and smart and it feels much more home like than whatsapp

Telegram is far superior and i stopped using whatsapp just a few months ago, not even a veteran using this app and i couldn't be more satisfied with Telegram, now installing Whatsapp sounds like throwing my cellphone to a garbage can. Technology isn't fashion like clothes, just because you personally prefer something doesn't make it better, you need facts. Whatsapp is limited, slower, and it doesn't matter how much updates they bring, they aren't improving at the same speed that Telegram does, not even close.
Ive had a deeper dive into telegram since this last post and i have to admit that i love it and it is the best out there for combining large scale chats and managing community.
