Since you asked: Americans did fight in Europe, but the main enemy of the U.S. in the war was Japan (hence the bomb). If you remember the bit at the first Hydra base where the one guy looks at the other and says, "What, are we taking everybody?" That's not just run-of-the-mill racism, it was specifically because the other guy was Japanese. He responded "I'm from Fresno" (city in California) to emphasize he was a U.S. citizen and they were on the same side.
Technically they could've been saying hail to the other guy, but in terms of "lore" Hydra is a separate group within them founded by the Red Skull. Some of it was explained in the movie, basically they are following his ambitions for artifacts like the Teseract (blue cube) and world domination.

6:30 America was mostly active in the Pacific theater in WW2 where they fought mostly Japan. America joined largely because of the bombing of pearl harbor and after pushing japan back over the course of WW2, they ended their side of the war by dropping 2 atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I could go on about so much since I love history but that's basically a brief summary of what America was doing.

The movie took place over a period of 3 years, which passed during the two montages. In avengers endgame, Cap is leading a support group, and says, "when I went into the ice in '45...". Don't know why they had Fury saying "almost 70 years" though lol.

While Superman and Spider-man are my favorite super heroes from comics, Captain America is easily my favorite from the movies. Everyone else is complicated and has all sorts of baggage (Iron Man is someone who is atoning for his past of selling weapons, Thor is an egotistical prince who has to learn humility and service to others, Hulk is unable to control his rage, etc etc) but Cap is just a good man doing his best to do the right thing. And Chris Evans plays him so well and gives him so much heart.

But the answer to your question about not understanding why people really want to fight for the country is honestly just that, a cultural difference. Personally I can't see why someone wouldn't want to fight for their country, but again different cultures
Also hearing stuff like "What did America do in world war 2" is so jarring, in America we're taught about everything we did in WW2. And we did a lot, I'd ask "What did Britain do in WW2?" And be in the same situation because they don't really teach what Europe did in WW2 here, just what America did
It's so weird to realize that people don't know what happened in WW1 and 2. The world wars are right up there with the birth of Jesus Christ himself for the most influential events in human history.

after ww2 in america there were no justified interventions of america with our military but the mcu makes a specific point to let you know steve joined because he "doesnt like bullies" and he saw hitler as the bully of the world.. basically what im saying is most people in america dont want to fight a war for the rich but ww2 was a bit different.. anything after that though ur not wrong... its just rich people trying to make money and gain access to resources and power
To answer your questions, yes. the US was VERY involved in WW2. It was highly unlikely the allies would have won if the US never got involved. The Germans Even had the UK boxed in to their homes in London with bombing attacks when we joined. Even before officially joining the combat about halfway through we were secretly shipping weapons, ammunition, and food to the allies. And then Japan attacked a major military port in Hawaii (the island state in the Pacific Ocean) called Pearl Harbor and killed thousands of sailors and other military personnel. After that the American people half near rioted to join the war officially to get revenge on the Axis for the attack. With our near untouchable location in the world, fresh minds and determination and industrial capabilities, the US steam rolled the already weary axis and won the war.
Oh and the main countries involved were the UK, France, and Russia on the Allies side, and then Germany, Italy, and Japan on the Axis side with the US officially joining the Allies about half way in.
