    Why couldn't you just pull-up 7:22 the Rivian along side the trailer behind the Model S and charge?

    • @RMTFamily
      @RMTFamily  4 місяці тому +1

      There is not enough room to between the trailer and the tree. For some reason it must look like there is more distance between them in the video. More people suggested the same thing, but there is just not enough room and the trailer is as far over to the other side already. I can squeeze the Model 3 thru the gap with about 3 inches on each side. The Rivian is to wide, and my wife wouldn’t squeeze thru there with the Model 3. Not worth taking the risk. The extension cord is much cheaper than any damage.

    So if I live in an apartment I can now through it out my window and charger my Bolt ;)
    LOL could now help myself.
    Found a chevy Spark EV that might be fun.
    Thank you for video Mike

      Right on! As long as you open the window before you throw it you should be fine🤣
      Chevy Spark is cool if you only do short drives. Seems like they are somewhat expensive compare to the Bolt.

      @@RMTFamily Chevy Spark was only offered in California and New York some how this one made it to Ebay.
      Back to thinking about a small battery pack trailer to extend distenance don't think supper charger works on Spark or stay around 45 miles for trips around town.

      Bear Tooth Pass is OPEN ! The Cyber Truck at the top would be vary cool to see. Elon would be inpressed to see this. Thinking Red Loged should have some kind of charging system for Cyber Truck.
      Have done this route three times nice camp ground at bottom of Bear Tooth before you get to Red Lodge.
      It would be a fun trip :)

      Batteries are expensive. Probably making the Spark with trailer more expensive than a Bolt. Now if the battery trailer could double for home back up power, maybe even combined with solar...🤔
      Would be an interesting project😉

      @@RMTFamily yes have it work for more then one use like a solar generator or what they call a Jackery for small use but just bigger aplications.

    Deliberately blocker a charger will get you a very hefty fine in most Australian States. Its definitely not worth it.

    Is this according to the standard? IIRC the EU type 2 isn't allowed to be extended, even though you technically can. The reason is that the cable has a built in resistor that tells the charger which amperage it can do, and by extending it, you don't know anymore.

    • @RMTFamily
      @RMTFamily  4 місяці тому +1

      AC charging in Europe is a little different than here in the US thus I'm not as familiar with it. One of the big differences is that AC chargers in Europe usually don't have a cable permanently attached and you have to provide your own cable. These cables are available in length of up to 20 meters. Since the cable is not part of the EVSE the cable would not contain resistors that specify an amperage, as the same cable could be plugged into different amperage chargers.
      You are correct that the resistance does change ever so slightly with an extension cord. In most cases that is negligible. It can affect the communication between the EVSE and the vehicle in some cases. With an EVSE that has a cable permanently attached and the communication bus is calibrated for that length cable, an extension cord could prevent proper communication with the EV.
      The type 1 does basically the same thing as the type 2 and also relies on communication for Amperage and more. In our case it does not seem to have affected communication at all.
      If for some reason the EVSE communicates a higher amperage than it can actually deliver and the vehicle wants to increase to that higher amperage it would overload the EVSE, which would either trip a breaker and/or the EVSE would go into Error state for overload. If it would be communicating a lower amperage then it would just charge slower.
      In any event I will have to look into type 2 a little more. In case you have a good resource with technical info on that, please share the link.
      EVDance does manufacture EVSE's for Europe and does have a type 2 extension cord, so I assume it works. But maybe it's not legal to do so in Europe.

      There is a reason no one sells a charger with a cable longer than 24 feet.

    Why dont you park alongside the trailer. Right up to the chargers

      There is not enough room to get by the tree. Also my wife has to be able to leave at any time with the Rivian. She has an unpredictable schedule. She needs an easy in and out. I can easily move the Rivian but she can't move the truck and trailer. The extension cord is easy to use and well worth the money by not having to shuffle cars around and can come in handy away from home when chargers are ice'd.
