Hi all! Just wanted to say that I am relatively new to Forgotten Realms. There may be things that I get wrong, as I understand things can change/get retconned between editions. I did my best to research across a range of books and will always provide sources where I pull information from. But most importantly, I welcome any tips and advice from veterans of these franchaises, so please feel free to leave any feedback. Thank you!!
Forgotten Realms lore is a mess, with new versions of D&D drastically changing the world and not always for the better. If you can make any sense of it, you're doing better than 99% of DMs and players. The Forgotten Realms wiki is rather good though. Once you stray too far from anything mentioned in BG3 it can get all be a bit debatable, but since you managed to cover Elden Ring, which has highly speculative lore, I'm sure you will do fine.
Nah, it's good to see you in this community too. Elden Ring is kind of over for now until the DLC, and I'm playing BG3 as I type this. You're on point. I'm learning about this world too. All videos welcome and we all make a mistake here and there but that's the learning process and the fun of it all!
That was fantastic! Shadowheart is my favorite companion in BG3 and seeing her story play out was a heartbreaking one. One thing I noticed is that Shar revels in others pains while giving her followers a false sense of forgetfulness. Meaning she'll wipe their memories, but only after reintroducing the pain of their losses again and again as if they're reliving the pain for the first time. Meaning it's done as a sadistic act instead of doing something beneficial for those in pain. Not to mention robbing people of the ability to grow and heal from loss. Very interesting all around.
The biggest compliment I could get ! Thank you! I have nothing but the highest respect and admiration for DMs such as yourself so this means the world :)
I've been immersed in Forgotten Realms lore since Baldur's Gate 2 consumed my childhood and honestly this is one of the best explorations of Shar that I've ever come across. I feel like there's a lot of nuance to her as a deity that BG3 sort of glossed over, but this video was great for bringing some of that back into the conversation!
Thank you so much for thinking so! I really like to deep-dive into the motivations and psyche of individuals, and fictional deities are no exception to that! Really glad you could enjoy :D
I would also die for seeing whole video dedicated to Selune and her presence in the BG3. Despite Selune being a fictional deity she resembles a lot of lunar female deities worshipped irl by various cultures in history and I hold weirdly intense relationship with her in all my DnD adventures, but also in irl worldview.
Yay! I am actually working on a Selune video right now, so I'm excited to share it with you eventually. I have always been drawn to the Moon as a planetary body and symbol, perhaps because I am a Cancerian hehe so I am a sucker for lunar inspired beings and religions. Thank you for mentioning irl applications and examples as well, I may include that in my video!
I always thought Selune was a combination of the greek and roman names for the same moon goddess: Selene and Luna. I really like lunar goddesses in fantasy TTRPGs myself.
Shar might not want to drown the world in blood like Bhaal, or rule the world by fire like Bane, nor own its ashes like Myrkul... but Shar is an evil far older, and more insidious, than all of them. She is as old as the world, if not older. She and her sister predates magic itself. It was Selune who, after fighting with Shar, hurled a piece of herself with such force that it tore at Shar. The result was Mystril, first goddess of magic, who ever since took Selune's side. That was before the sun, it was in a time where the twin sisters were deciding how to nurture the world (Chauntea) into what it became today. Selune wanted stars and a giant bright moon to illuminate the living things that crawled in the muck back then. Shar wanted for a world devoid of light. Every bad thing that every single cleric of Shar ever did, every plot of the goddess of spite, was because the two of them couldn't agree on whether to turn on the lights or keep them off during their play time. Poor Lathander (and previously Amaunator), gods of the sun, who have set and risen in the span of time that these two goddesses have fought each other. At least that is how one story goes.
This was so good, just wanna add that Shar wanting to be a Mother figure is just a facade, she also a bit of a trickery goddess with her most devout followers being her biggest rubes. Her true goal is simply the death of everything and a return to the oblivion of TOTAL darkness
Wow that is such an unexpected turn in your lore series, and a great one! D&D has so much cool lore to explore, it's really Elden Ring's... grandaddy, or smtg Amazing work on the haircut, for 3s I genuinely thought it was a Shadowheart build video from another channel 😅
Thank you so much for your kind words! 😊 I'm really pleased that you enjoyed the change in lore - D&D is a treasure trove of fascinating lore, and I'm excited to cover more of it!
I've watched a few of your elden ring videos now, and finally came across bg3. I had wondered why you looked so familiar, it's because you literally look like Shadowheart lmao. Woah
Thank you so much for all your hardwork in making these videos i knoe this video isn't new but this applies for all your videos, and your shadow heart cosplay is so good!
Awesome work! Cant wait to see what else you might cover like Minthara and House Baenre. Thanks again the relaxing lore videos and much love for your work!!!
Thank you for enjoying something different from me! I really am grateful that you decided to join me for a new lore venture. Your feedback is much appreciated !
I have been playing Baldur’s Gate 3 a very healthy amount ever since it came out on PS5. And by healthy I mean about roughly 300 hours, I love it so damn much. But I didn’t anticipate to get so enraptured into the lore of the forgotten realms, and now I can hardly get enough of it, so I very much approve of you doing more of this Chalice. Cheers 💙
Thank you so much for enjoying my presentation of the lore! Really glad to hear that I could immerse you in the world that BG is based in. Hope you join me for the next adventure!
this was so great omg shadowheart is my favorite companion alongside astarion, such a well written character with such a fun questline. i’d love more bg3 videos! :]
Awesome video, and amazing cosplay! I'll never froget that first time you get to the end of the Gauntlet of Shar and you hear her voice recognise that you're listening to Shadowheart's conversation with her in her mind. Chills. Hope to see more BG3 videos. :D
Really enjoyed you mentioning the Darkcloaks, the one oddity among the followers of Shar that provided benefial services to others in society, sometimes helping to make the worship of Shar more socially acceptable. They actually have compassion towards the sufferers of mental angush. Great video! You did a wonderful job!
Thanks, I'm super happy that you enjoyed the bit on the Darkcloaks; that was a really fascinating subsection to go down. Made me really question myself on if Shar is REALLY 100% bad to the bone. Well maybe she is, but that doesn't mean her followers have to be; they can create something good out of an otherwise dark and sorrowful time in someone's life. Anyway I appreciate your insight and thank you again!
I start to play BG3 a week ago, and your video came just in time! That's a great game to cover, because the d&d lore is very intricate and complex, there are many places and characters to explore... Awesome video, as usual!
I respect your knowledge of the lore in the games you talk about. It would be cool if you did an exposé on all the BG3 characters. And DAMN you look good in that outfit.
I am so excited to see you doing Forgotten Realms Lore videos. I've been a Forgotten Realms fan since BG1 and I am glad other people are starting to see how amazing the lore can be. Can't wait to see more lore videos for BG3 and the Forgotten Realms.
omg omg omg i clicked on this video so fast I've been so curious and you're the perfect person to explain it all now like you said, a companion piece to this would be to talk about Shar's adversary, Selune!😄please yes!
I am so happy I subbed to your channel, it's like we are into the same games too because when I initially subscribed you were making Elden Ring videos, that game which took over my life all of last year, and now you are on BG3 which is taking over my life now.
As another character in BG3 would (pompously) say: "I had no idea you played." I figured you only made Elden Ring lore videos and cosplays, but now that I think about it, the hairstyle for Shadowheart suits you perfectly! It's almost identical to the way you usually wear your hair.
Been watching you for awhile for the Elden Ring and Soulsborne lore, but Baldur's Gate and D&D is an ever deeper favorite of mine. I'd love for you to do more videos in that universe!
Finally beat bg3 on one of my many playthroughs and glad i waited til i finished Shart's questline to watch this. She is such a beautifully tragic character and i always appreciate these lor dives you do.
Awesome vid Chalice! Loved your Elden Ring Videos / Cosplays. Seems we both took interest in Baldurs Gate and DnD. Love this game and characters, especially Shadowheart. Cosplay looks Great. Looking forward to more lore and character vids on the world of DnD / Forgotten Realms.
This is so exciting to see! BG3 has quickly become one of my favorite games ever, and I've been an avid dnd player for years, so I would love to see more of your takes on the lore Also, Shadowheart and Lae'zel are my absolute favs lol
I was curious, when looking up images of the Shadow Dancer or Night Singer, all the came up was the Chaotic Good Drow Goddess also called Eilistraee also names dark dancer. I assume they have nothing to do with each other? If so, is there any art of Shar’s Dark Dancer or the Nightsinger?
Always happy to see FR lore; there's so much to see and talk about with Faerun, and most of it outside the Sword Coast has been largely ignored in more recent years.
Ive seen elden ring in the past i just seen you had baldurs gate too 👍 its been a little bit since i visit this channel but i like your videos and i like your voice i could honestly listen to you talk about anything 👍

Will you also be doing videos on AC6? I'd love to see a video covering Ayre (and the Rubiconians and the Coral). As for BG3, I'd be interested in a video about Lae'zel and the githyanki.

Hi yes my feedback is that I would like an Armored Core lore video with cosplay pls, thank you Chalice
I don't know Challice. My friends and I played in highschool, and now I have a mortgage and car payments 😅
Strangely, I don't seem to remember these so-called "realms"..

This just makes me wish my Tav could punch Shar in the face.
Thank you so much! And thank you for your great perspective. It is indeed a sick and twisted cycle Shar is fostering!!
nailed the shadowheart look! shes one of my favorit characters and her story arch is awesome! great video!
Thank you so much!! Really happy that you enjoyed and could represent her well enough :)
10/10. As a long time DM in FR, solid coverage of both the best NPC and my favorite setting. Keep it coming!

this was so great omg shadowheart is my favorite companion alongside astarion, such a well written character with such a fun questline. i’d love more bg3 videos! :]
So great to have you cover BG3!! Forgotten realms has some amazing lore , especially the book series “the legend of Drizzt” by RA Salvatore
you just unlocked a memory from teen me, I read those books
oh my god I love your elden ring videos and have become obsessed with BG3 and the lore I’m so glad you’re covering it
Great narration! I think you could expand the scope of your videos to movies, books, historical figures/events...
you’re just so good at this. never stop💞 you’re special

Loved this video on Baldurs gate lore!
just stunning
You have to appreciate the amount of effort these videos take
Funny thing about all this, if you let Shadowhearth choose by herself, she will gravitate towards her ligh path.
Ive seen elden ring in the past i just seen you had baldurs gate too 👍 its been a little bit since i visit this channel but i like your videos and i like your voice i could honestly listen to you talk about anything 👍
This is great. If you need more for your research, Ed Greenwood, the creator of the Forgotten Realms has a UA-cam channel too.

I've been doing my best to pull together different editions' info on Illithid to help newer fans, as it can be quite vague. My favorite source is the Illithiad source book. It is much more detailed than Volo's info from his guide, but the problem is that is from AD&D 2e and not every fan wants to rely on older knowledge. Personally, I use relavent info that hasn't been discarded, and note info that has changed. The old book, while still noting a 7 day process for ceremorphosis, states that the host loses their soul and is effectively doomed within hours of implantation, and that's definitely been unspokenly altered.

Haven't played and don't plan to play, but I love your content, this was also fun to watch!
There are books in the game that talk about a Selunite indoctrination involving dumping kids in the woods with wolves at night. I wonder at some point if they were going to make her a Selune aligned lycanthrope that was mindwiped with silver embedded in her hand to prevent the change.
The Forgotten Realms has such great lore, I cant wait for you to get deeper into it and cover them!
