One cool detail about Aylin's design is the gold markings all across their skin which reference the practice of kintsugi in Japanese culture which involves the repair of broken ceramic items with gold- allowing the item to be used once again while also beautifying/recognizing its flaws/history. In terms of Aylin, these golden streaks could represent all of the past wounds or deaths inflicted upon her during her time as a prisoner in the Shadowfell and shows just how many times she may have been "reforged."
Thank you for pointing that fascinating connection out! I just looked it up and how beautiful !! What a poetic way to highlight Aylin's resilience and past struggles.
I also made the connection between Aylin's abilities and that of something more than an Aasimar, like a Deva, since Aasimar are a normal mortal playable race in 5E that definitely aren't immortal. Various campaigns and games (Neverwinter Nights - Hordes of the Underdark for example) have had Devas be captured and their powers drawn and abused by evil powers due to their immortality and stronger celestial essence, whereas Aasimar wouldn't usually survive, so that's what I thought of first when hearing about the Nightsong.
Thank you for your insight!! I'm glad to hear that you concur about her being closer to a Deva (and make me feel less crazy). I'd like to look more into those campaign stories. They sound interesting!
Another explanation for the resurrections and immortality is that Mystra and Selûne often grant immortality to their most faithful servants, as they give a small part of themselves to them to take care of. In the most recorded cases (the Chosen of Mystra) she has granted this gift to Elminster, Khelben and a few others - like the human father of the Daughters of Mystra. Selûne is far less generous with her gifts, but in turn those gifts can be of far greater power. Giving someone - especially her daughter - the gift to resurrect after death is not beyond her godly powers, although these powers are seldom, if ever, catalogued in the books. Evil gods also do this, as with figures like Fzol Chembryl, who rules the Zentharim under Bane's command. Although these individuals are immortal, they are not indestructible. And killing them can really hurt their gods... And it has other consequences too, like Myrkulite priest harnessing a daughter of Selûne's gift for his own.
Yay! More Forgotten Realms! Also, regarding Selune and her "special activity" with mortals, it seems to be way more common in Forgotten Realms than in other fantasy settings. You even have another party member, Gale, who previously had "special activity" with Mystra, after all. :)
Not just Gale, Elminster too, though you wouldn't know this through Baldur's Gate 3 alone, you'd have to read the novel about Elminster's origin story "Elminster: The Making of a Mage", which takes place more than thirteen centuries before Baldur's Gate 3.
@user-ri1sx9rm7f Appearances can be deceiving. The tiefling you are talking about, Karlach, she can go both ways actually. All of the romanceable characters in BG3 are bi.
I've been listening to most of your elden ring videos while I get ready for sleep, or while I crochet, and I really enjoy the lore dives. I've spent a lot of time playing BG3 while not really knowing much about DND, so I was pretty glad to see videos about that game as well. I hope you end up making more, especially since there's so much information out there and it's hars to wrap my head around or digest easily haha 😅 I'd love videos on anything BG3 related really! ❤
You've done a great job distilling decades of Forgotten Realms lore into something accessible and enjoyable. You clearly did a good amount of research and got access to some great source material from previous editions. Seeing the covers of some of those sourcebooks took me back to days of yore! Very nicely done, as always.
Haha totally here for the hairdye rant. Turned my hair completely orange the first time I went from dark to light hair. Magic would have been so much easier! And please cover any game you like. It's the lore, well written analysis and calming narrating I think a lot of us care about the most. The loreplay costumes really sets the mood too
This video is a masterclass in educating in a compelling and absorbing way. I started it because I was curious to know a bit more about the background behind Shadowheart & Dame Aylin, and I finished it feeling like I should start worshipping Selûne.
this is one of my favorite videos so far, not because of the subject bg 3 is awesome but because it feels a little offscript at times even if it isnt really and i think thats a good thing.
Ahh thank you so much for thinking so! I tried a different style of talking more casually about my reaction to things so I'm glad you enjoyed those parts :)
I really appreciate how much effort you put into your videos. The editing and game footage you use is very good & fitting. I'm happy you're branching into other games. I hope you don't get burned out but I do like the variety!
So happy you do bg3 now. I still love elden ring and will totally play the sequel and watch your inevitable vids on it, but bg3 is so so fun!! I’m a little obsessed, but I think we all are. It’s a truly incredible game.
hello, first time viewer here 🌙 shadowheart's journey with her spirituality has meant a great deal to me and tomorrow afternoon i'll be getting a (long awaited) tattoo of selune's eyes and seven stars. in honor of celebrating the new tattoo, i've been doing a deep dive into more selune lore and I just wanted to let you know how grateful I am to you for this beautiful video. a brilliant, comprehensive dive done most peacefully and soothingly-- in other words: you slayed it and thank you for this. I am so happy to have come across it tonight. ✨
Excellent video Ms Chalice! I was hoping for more BG related videos. I will admit to looking forward to more Elden Ring videos from you, you do the lore a great deal of credit.
watching your rapid rise on this platform, to "certified lore scholar" has honestly been such a joy. Its nice to listen to someone else present a tedtalk about their favourite bit of lore for once. keep it up.
the other Sharrans that killed the Nightsong did so with a sword or dagger, not the blessed spear. Shadowheart was special, as she was a child of Selune (not literally) that Shar was converting to prove she was better than her sister. Hence the blessed spear.
Amazing deep dive, as always Chalice! Always happy to see a new drop from you. I actually thought that Aylin was a Deva when she first appeared. I really loved her as a character and wished you got to do a bit more with her. Also, really cool point on Aylin's temper. I hadn't really thought too much about it after Ketheric but after the fight with [redact] in Act 3, I was like "that was out of control!"
Great Vid, there is so much to indulge in within the forgotten realms, its all very new to me and your videos on the lore you give a nice bite size into it, I look forward to your possible more videos into the forgotten realms, the Tieflings Origins/history would be a nice one, and the dragonkin/sorcerer sub class would be also interesting to know more about, there is so much!
Great vid! Exactly what I needed after the week of work. Did over 10 playthroughs of BG3 and yet haven't played a Selune Cleric, what a moron! I'll give it a try on the next :)
You did phenomenally with those markings Chalice, very accurate to the followers of Selune and her importance to Faerun’s pantheon. I can absolutely see people playing Baldur’s Gate 3 for the first time falling hard for Selune. Cheers Chalice.
If you think about it, gods mating with mortals might not be so unusual, as even one in the group has been the couple of the very goddess of magic, Mystra
In doing Shadowheart's light path, I had the same reaction to her having silver hair after 1 night. I know it was just a minor illusion spell or something, but I want that sooooooooo bad!!
Obscure Forgotten Realms info: Deva are referred to as Aasimar in Mulhorand, and this term then (according to the FR wiki) was adopted by their mortal progeny...
You've got something wrong about the Spear. The Spear every Dark Justiciar used to kill Aylin was a false one,if you loot the weapon rack right before Shadowfell,Shadowheart will point this out. Every Dark Justiciar under Ketheric were false,or semi-false,as we can see they're still blessed and ordered by Shar but never "truly" killed a Selunite. Thorm annointed Dark Justiciars under Shar by killing Aylin only through a false Spear,he was already feeding off her immortality,he did not want to give that up,and already disobeying Shar, don't know if he got into contact with Myrkul by then or was simply following his instincts. She was dying, but she was beign ressurected as it was her nature. Shar wanted Aylin dead for a very long time, probably the first thing she ordered Thorm to do in order to become her Chosen. I think Thorm did become her Chosen, but this would imply he had tricker Shar as he never killed Aylin.
Oh my goodness...I was always paranoid that Aelin would actually die if Thorme or Lorroakan killed her. Thorme was easy, but I retried the Lorroakan fight over and over again to keep her from getting killed
Don't worry about "going on a rant for nothing" on the subject of immortality in d&d, it's just fun to think about these things. Interpretation is preferable to objectivity imo. That is why channels like yours are enjoyable to watch, for your unique Interpretation. If all matters of lore were objective facts the world would be a much more boring place.
What's the music in the background @21:00????? My favourite Warhammer 40K Lore channel The Amber King used to employ that same music/track in his videos and I LOVE IT!
I subbed because I really liked your voice and thought it would be nice to fall asleep to your videos. But sadly started focusing on the slight lispyness on the S, making them really pronounced... and now it's all I can hear D= I can still listen to the videos when I'm working on something but if I sit/lay down and try to relax to it, it just gets too close to ASMR for my liking (I really really hate ASMR). I did just order the free gamersupps packets through your link, hope it helps! LOL! Just when I tried to post this comment the video got to @11:20 and Shadowheart has the same exact thing with her S! xD
I have really enjoyed all your content Miss Chalice! Great work! I would love to help you with your audio. It looks like a nice mic and setup you're working with but, I mean no offense, your signal quality should sound better than it does. What does your signal chain look like when you record (what does your eq look like and what plugins are you using?) I will DM you on twitter in case you want help with this. Best
Good content I enjoyed it, but have some nitpicking on pronunciation. Faerun; there's no "e" after the final "un" to modify it into rune (roon) - think of sun or gun to say it correctly. Selune; the "e" after this places emphasis on the the "u" before the "n" - so examples would be attune, tribune, dune. Can see where you got to this with the Latin "Luna"
I genuinely believe that Baldur’s Gate 3 deserves GOTY this year. Even though my personal pick would be FF16, I think BG3 has left a greater impact on the RPG genre as a whole. Though it’ll most likely just be Zelda because… Zelda. Which would honestly be a little disappointing because I think BG3 has actually earned it, much like Elden Ring did last year. Whereas ToTK just felt like more BOTW, and at one point, I actually forgot it came out this year lol.
Couple of things that are known that you asked about or inferred incorrectly: Firstly, As of the period of the game Selune isn't able to walk the realms and have "special activities" anymore without risking permanently dying if killed, so it can be done but it's likely less common. But given the time, Aylin's implied age, and the timeline of Kethric Thorm event she could have easily been concived and born during time where it was more common. Secondly, a bit of a terminology correction, children of gods aren't expressly demigods in D&D. A mortal of two mortal parents for example can ascend and become a demigod as it implies a level of pseudo godhood from that quote you showed, as opposed to the common usage of the word from the Greco-Roman/ other mythology interpretation. What you are describing as a child of a god in D&D terms will be an empyrean which doesn't immediately grant them the level of demi-power/ demigod status. Even that term generally refers to the child of two gods which will be a giant creature by that name which you can look up in the 5e monster manual. The child of a god and a mortal could also just be a divine touched mortal or the loose interpretation of, "an aasimar's potential origin". Though you are right she very deva-like which they did make a nod to that old Mulhorandi confabulation in the current lore with Aasimar being assigned a deva protector. I think its fair for Larian to combine stuff to make something that breaks the norms at this point of confabulation in the lore on this topic. So having her be a child of a god and a mortal who is not an empyrean but is an "Aasimar" celestial enough to function like a deva in her own right is fine enough. btw, loved all your Elden ring content and am glad you are taking a shine to this game and it's lore 😁
Perhaps Moon Maiden is simply there for nice sounding aliteration. However, I recently learned that in Greco-Roman times that pairing between gods and mortals resulting in children didn't always assume intercourse. Some philosophers theorized that the gods could simply use magical means to impregnate women or gain the "bloodline" of a mortal in the case of a goddess. There are even several art pieces from ancient times depicting women being hit with some divine energy blast which results in their pregnancy. These are versions of the conception of famous Greek heroes like Perseus which result in "virgin births". It is possible that Aylin was made this way and would fit the earlier story about how both Chauntea and Mystra who are also daughters of Selune were born without intercourse. Also, Aylin may know her mother, but not the details of conception. It maybe that she was born of a mortal womb that Selune impregnated using magical means, which is why she is more human instead of divine like her sisters.
Warning spoilers for act 2 My Selunite cleric had her heart broken romancing shadowheart lol. When shadowheart asks "what should I do" about Aylin, I choose the selune option to spare Aylin, Shar will never stop demanding more. And she stabbed Aylin with the spear! I was shocked that it seemed like shadowheart wanted to continue a relationship. Uh no thanks, all of those people we struggled to free and keep safe are dead now thanks to you shadowheart. I cried and reloaded. if you use the non selune option to tell her not to kill Aylin, she'll throw away the spear. :(
I don't know why but I see the white makeup and think, jeez girl don't draw so close to your eye balls... I get drawing near your eyes is a solid part of make up but the white just short circuited my brain for a moment.

Even gods have needs, I guess
And Mystra wasn't always a goddess, she used to be a mortal woman born in the Netherese Empire

I love your BG3 content. Thank you so much for making these videos they help me relax when I'm very restless

This is delightful! Really enjoying your dives into D&D topics.
Thank you so much, Dan! That means a lot !!
I have no idea how you were able to plug those waifu cups with a straight face LMAO
Amazing video as always!
I'm hungering for more DnD/BG lore videos in your style. I feel like you'd make an awesome Dark Urge lore video!
This video is a masterclass in educating in a compelling and absorbing way. I started it because I was curious to know a bit more about the background behind Shadowheart & Dame Aylin, and I finished it feeling like I should start worshipping Selûne.

Yes, moon magic day! Gotta leave another comment after I watch, I'm just so happy you made the Selune video we spoke of.
I really appreciate how much effort you put into your videos. The editing and game footage you use is very good & fitting. I'm happy you're branching into other games. I hope you don't get burned out but I do like the variety!

keep it up.
Thanks for the video, Challice
Love your videos. You have the best story telling voice. Happy to return to Elden Ring in the next one!
Thank you so much! And yes, I missed Elden Ring so much that I couldn't stay away for long!
Awesome video like always. One of the handful of people on youtube I genuinely get excited to see an upload from.

Cool to see you do videos on DnD lore. Happy to watch other stuff from you, although I love the souls games so thats good too.
Mystril? I wonder if that's a potential topic for another time.
Ohhh yessss indeedy!
Love seeing BG3 stuff; I hope you keep it up!
I absolutely LOVE , love LOVE that your doing BG3 lore
Loving the BG3 lore vids! All this talk of relations between a Goddess and a mortal has me wanting a vid on Gale ;)
Absolutely amazing! I love these deep-dives into game lore. Thank you 🤗
I always liked a Mystran specialty priest when I played 2nd edition AD&D back in the day. Access to a lot of spell spheres
This is an amazing video. Please keep up the amazing work.
I love that you're doing bgthree content!
Fantastic video! Would love more BG3 lore videos!!
Lovely video. Can't wait to hear more
Oh yeah

Gamer Supps 🤝 Miss Chalice ❤🔥
Great vid! Exactly what I needed after the week of work.
Did over 10 playthroughs of BG3 and yet haven't played a Selune Cleric, what a moron! I'll give it a try on the next :)
0:47 omg I just noticed fubuki in one's artstyle
Yesss I love this! Please more baldur's gate!
You did phenomenally with those markings Chalice, very accurate to the followers of Selune and her importance to Faerun’s pantheon. I can absolutely see people playing Baldur’s Gate 3 for the first time falling hard for Selune. Cheers Chalice.
i’m loving the bg3 videos!!
Very good lore video as always!
Do you plan to do Lords of the Fallen lore as well?
Would love to see that from you 😊
I enjoyed this very much
Yay! I'm so glad you did!
For anyone wondering if you want to be a paladin of a specific god in this game you have to have 1 point in cleric as well as 1 point in paladin.
If you think about it, gods mating with mortals might not be so unusual, as even one in the group has been the couple of the very goddess of magic, Mystra
I'd love more BG3 videos from you!

Oh my goodness...I was always paranoid that Aelin would actually die if Thorme or Lorroakan killed her.
Thorme was easy, but I retried the Lorroakan fight over and over again to keep her from getting killed
Very good Selune video.
You should do lore on all the gods for cleric class in BG3! That would be a rad series
Thought this was an "ASMR" video; had to re-read the title.
"AASIMAR"
What's the music in the background @21:00????? My favourite Warhammer 40K Lore channel The Amber King used to employ that same music/track in his videos and I LOVE IT!

More baulders gate videos please ! ❤
I have really enjoyed all your content Miss Chalice! Great work! I would love to help you with your audio. Great vidéo per usuel
i'd love to hear you do a video on Bahamut, the Platinum King of Dragons, and the Dragonborn. enjoyed the vid, like from me.
More DnD please!
Do you know why was Dame Aylin was sad after she curb stomped the magician that was trying to lock her up again?
I'd absolutely be a Selunite in the real world given the chance.
Laezel and Githyanki!
Unintentional ASMR channel :’D
I really want to watch this but I haven't gotten far enough in the game yet
YOU NEED YOUR OWN FLAVOR
Elder scrolls lore of the tribunal when 🙏

Have you played Lies of P yet? I think you would enjoy the story presented, though it is not as deep or involving as Elden Ring or Baldur's Gate.
More BG3 please 😊
"And just as the faithful offer milk to Selune, I'm partnering with BIG MILK!"
Is what I wanted to hear, but not what I got.
Couple of things that are known that you asked about or inferred incorrectly:
Firstly, As of the period of the game Selune isn't able to walk the realms and have "special activities" anymore without risking permanently dying if killed, so it can be done but it's likely less common.
Woman, you are going to be knee-deep in D&D lore for this game. Good luck with the new work load!

Will you do Mystra?
Warning spoilers for act 2
My Selunite cleric had her heart broken romancing shadowheart lol. :(
She’s cool :)
I like the pale look
I don't know why but I see the white makeup and think, jeez girl don't draw so close to your eye balls... I get drawing near your eyes is a solid part of make up but the white just short circuited my brain for a moment.
