  • Brian talks to us today about ways to troubleshoot a multi-point locking door. Often times homeowners need assistance with operating these locks and their new functionality.
    To lock these doors, you pull UP on the handle, which shoots bolts into the bottom and top of the door frame. These bolts connect all through the interior of the door, providing a very solid lock. What's more, that motion also pulls the deadbolt through the middle, like normal. The second part is to roll the lock over. Otherwise, a simple tug down on the handle releases the three bolts.
    These doors not only increase security and safety for your home, but also improve energy efficiency as the doors stay extra snug when locked. So there's multiple benefits, and making sure that they stay locked when they are supposed to is very important.
    Thanks Brian!

    Can you show me or explain to me how to DIY adjust the door? Mine locks fine when open but rubs at the bottom lock and will not fully lock. Thanks

      We can add this to the list of things to film, but Brian is off on vacation right now. That said, he still saw this comment and--bear with us here-- provided some tips for you to follow. Here's what he had to offer:
      Depends on the year the door was made. Older doors have plastic shims behind each side of the hinge. To lift it up remove all shims from top and middle hinge then add 2 or 3 shims to the bottoms hinge. Newer doors may have adjustable hinges. If you have adjustable hinges: Loosen the 2 Phillips head screws then turn the top hinge adjustment to the minus sign. Once adjusted tighten the Phillips screws down tight. The bottom hinge loosen Phillips screws and turn adjustment screw to the plus sign then tighten Phillips screws back. Or you could also try a completely different method which works great. Just file some of the point off of the bottom multipoint. This will allow the multipoint to completely throw don’t will lock.
      Hope this helps!

    Hello, great information. My door will not close by itself, but I must pull the door to close it and it is very difficult to lock, this after a new gasket was installed. My pella tech suggested a new gasket would solve a gap on my door at the bottom which is over half the width of the door, unless the lock is properly engaged. Would you have a suggestion. Thank you

      Hey there! Thanks for the comments and definitely, we can put a gasket or weatherstripping replacement on the radar. For now our advice straight from Brian would be that your new weatherstripping will need some time to compress and form to how the door sits when it's in the lock position. Once weatherstripping takes memory to how the door sits, it WILL get easier and easier to lock with time.
      Hope this helps ease your mind with your new weatherstripping install. Let us know if we can help further! Happy to help.

    where can i buy the deadbolt replacement part ? for this multipoint locking

      I'd call your local Pella showroom and see if they can order over the phone. They can grab all the necessary information if you know exactly the part. If not, they might need to send out a service tech to take a look. Hope this helps!

    where can I buy new replacement handles with locksets

    • @pellanorthcarolina

      Great question! So replacement parts can be ordered and delivered through your local Pella branch. If you google them, their service number SHOULD pull right up, and they can handle it from there!

    Is there anyway to add a keyless entry (keypad) to a door like this?

    • @pellanorthcarolina
      @pellanorthcarolina  7 місяців тому

      Great question! Unfortunately I do not think this is a possibility for multi-point locking, as that mechanism requires you to life the handle first before you can lock the door. That's something we can definitely look into with future iterations.

    Thank you. Helpful.
    Is there a way for the deadbolt/vertical security rods to stay recessed so the door can close without engaging the handle?

    • @pellanorthcarolina
      @pellanorthcarolina  Рік тому

      Ooh, that sounds to us here like it's an actual issue internally. It SHOULD be able to be closed without messing with the handle, where the locks only shoot up when you turn the handle. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news here. This is what Brian said directly:
      "If this happens customer will need a new multipoint lock and tech will need to come out and drill out old one. I would not recommend opening or releasing lock til new one comes in as you will not be able to lock up your home."
      On that front we are more than happy to help out in any way that we can, either getting you scheduled or getting you to the right branch to get you squared away. Sorry!

      @MartyZaluski Рік тому

      @@pellanorthcarolina Thank you. There is a Pella dealer in my town, so I will contact them today. For confirmation, the vertical security rod springs up after the door is opened, and then the rod slams the door frame when shutting the door unless the handle is engaged.

    • @pellanorthcarolina
      @pellanorthcarolina  Рік тому +1

      @@MartyZaluski Yeah, that doesn't sound right at all unfortunately. It should only spring upwards when the handle is turned up as well.
      Thanks for finding the video and if there's anything else we can help with from here just let us know! Best of luck.

    What’s happening whenever the lock comes out on its own when I open the door. I have to raise up on the handle to get it back in so I can close the door

    • @pellanorthcarolina
      @pellanorthcarolina  Рік тому

      Hey Rhonda... Unfortunately sounds like a faulty lock. It should stay recessed when the door is open. Our recommendation is to give your local Pella branch a call and schedule a tech to come out and look at it as I don't think there's a quick fix from home to do. Happy to help you find a number or be of any assistance that we can!

      Hmm. If the tips in this video aren't working, I definitely recommend scheduling a service event with your local Pella branch. I'd be happy to help you get set up with that.
