Yosuke was the very definition of "In the closet" The romance route would have been a good way to tell why his kinda desperate to get a girlfriend and why he often tease Kanji and even straight up asked him if they were going to be safe with him. This would have also been a great way for him to grow as a character too. Plus his kinda cute here. Hahaha
It would make his slightly offensive remarks on Kanji make more sense and make him a better character, at least more than the Inaba is a small town thing he had. It would also remove the poor taste he left in some people's mouths due to his remarks.

Just an FYI to all those arguing "how does 'like' mean 'love'?" The Japanese version of the line is way more explicit and uses the way you'd say like/love to a crush, so this is 100% a romance route. Also the fact it got taken out and wasn't left in should be obvious enough 🤷
@moomin I saw it somewhere before, but it's just a part of a long video that I can't remember the title. It's pretty much the same thing, but "I like you" is translated as "daisuki dayo" which while translates as I like you, is the standard word for affection and confession in Japanese.

Not me replying to a 2y old comment 😝😜 Anyway, in the video you posted with the Japanese voice actor, at the end he says: 俺、お前が好きだ。(Ore, omae ga suki da. I… like you.) This is definitely a confession for anyone in denial, because despite what anime might show and say, お前 (omae) actually can be used to refer to a loved one such as your significant other. Obviously 好きだ means to like, and using omae really emphasizes that this isn’t just a, “I like you as a friend,” talk. Anyone who tries to say it’s fake or mistranslated can go look up a quick video about confessions in Japanese 😅

This is hella frustrating.......... I'm seriously wondering why they cancelled this option BUT kept all those ambiguous moments in the game. u_u what is the point, i'm confused.
First off before I say anything on it, the I like you and Don't make me say something so embarrassing doesn't come from this scene, it was added to it just because I guess. And like you said, it kept the stuff he did earlier in the game ambiguous to his orientation, which is kinda the point to some degree, because of how he acts. Also, even if he is bi or whatever, doesn't make him dateable, he may be too insecure to want to go out with you, especially seeing how he acts when faced with kanji's gayness. If he can't deal with that, I highly doubt he'll try anything himself either. I honestly think it's better this way, because instead of his treatment of Kanji being hypocritical and kinda ironic, it's still used for comedy instead, and doesn't have to solidify anything. To me a good gay/bi character is literally Kanji, he isn't dateable because he doesn't care to or want to, and he just realized his sexuality doesn't matter much at all.

I don't. I don't think he actually is gay, I think he's just not secure on his sexuality, and even if he is bi, I don't see him able to date guys, due to his interactions with Kanji showing how insecure he is and uncomfortable he acts.

A lot of gay people actually do experience some level of internalized homophobia when they first start coming to terms with themselves, it would help explain his interactions with Kanji. Honestly, Yosuke liking men would be better for his character development because it would transform him from a homophobe to someone whos still just struggling to face who they are.
The fact that we all now know Yosuke is a closeted gay brings a lot of coherence to his homophobia, and a LOT of depth to his reactions and the whole story of Persona 4. This REALLY should be readded to the game, not as a gesture of political correctness, but as a real element that turns the atmosphere of the game into something more mature and more satisfying.
The 'Don't go' line is actually used during the final boss when all the social links are telling Yu to wake up. Golden got rid of it, but the PS2 version has it.

Everyone who thinks a female route might be a thing because of this: Where is the evidence that states so? To think they already have this dialogues dubbed in english shows this was strapped close to the game's release. Considering the aforementioned point, there should've been at least a file hinting to a FeMC, but nothing of such. They were going for it, there's even a undubbed japanese voice line
Everytime I think about this I get mad. They were so close to adding this that YURI HIMSELF VOICED THE LINES. This had to be a last minute removal and I’m so mad it was. It removes so much potential depth to an already amazing character

I don't understand why there is so little gay and female fan service? There's a clear market for it, hell, with all the Boys Love novels I have seen it's surprising that it is kept to just that small corner. The issue with BL is how those that is really all there is to them, the story and characters rarely go beyond there and I never become too personally interested with them. I'm one of the people who'll agree that fan service generally ruins shows, but with all the straight guys fan service there is it can't hurt to add some more for the females besides the guys "being cool", I'm not really interested in those kinds of guys and would like to see something that gives them more personality and would show their vulnerable side more. Yosuke would have been great for this since he makes me think more of an "innocent, flawed" high school boy rather than being more of what the protagonist is, cool and calm. I would love for it to have been Yosuke, but I'm really ok with it happening much at all anywhere that isn't just Boys Love or gay movies. It somewhat seems as though they feel the need to segregate that into it's own place so people won't accidently stumble upon it...

One thing about it though is, why add something just to pander to the audience rather than focus on the character's mindset more? Yosuke could easily be gay or bi, and I think it's canon that he's at least partially bi, but I don't see him dating. He acts the way he does around Kanji for a reason, and if he'll act like that toward him, do you honestly think he's secure enough about his own feelings to go after that? I don't think so. I think even he finds it weird. It isn't just about not letting people stumble on it, that doesn't matter, it's about if the character even is dateable, because yeah, the girls want relationships, does that mean the guys do too? No. If you want real gay characters, making them only sometimes dateable is the way to go, because honestly, alot aren't. Alot really aren't comfortable even with themselves on it, aren't confident in it, or just only delude themselves into thinking they are gay or bi, rather than actually being it. To me, I'd love a persona gay option where eventually he just decides it isn't for him, because that's the reality of this. Not everyone is, and people need to see that in video games, that not every game with dateable characters should always include a guy in the roster for that.

The majority of queer people just want to live their life without hate, and those that do repress it usually do so because it's not safe for them to come out or they're convinced that it's wrong or immoral. A story where a gay character starts to open up but then closes back up again is not very inspiring or tasteful in the current climate. The real problem with Yusuke's whole thing is that they had a really great opportunity for character growth by showing him moving past his insecurity and learning to accept himself. I'll agree that that doesn't necessarily have to happen because of the magical power of gay romance, but since many queer people face romantic loneliness due to there being just not as many gay/bi people as there are straight people and therefore less people to date, him ending up with someone he loves would be empowering. Though of course then he'd face the problem many bi characters have of being reduced to "just gay" or "just straight" depending on who they end up with. But that's another discussion entirely.

To me a good gay/bi character is literally Kanji, he isn't dateable because he doesn't care to or want to, and he just realized his sexuality doesn't matter much at all.

A lot of gay people actually do experience some level of internalized homophobia when they first start coming to terms with themselves, it would help explain his interactions with Kanji. Honestly, Yosuke liking men would be better for his character development because it would transform him from a homophobe to someone whos still just struggling to face who they are.

The fact that we all now know Yosuke is a closeted gay brings a lot of coherence to his homophobia, and a LOT of depth to his reactions and the whole story of Persona 4. This REALLY should be readded to the game, not as a gesture of political correctness, but as a real element that turns the atmosphere of the game into something more mature and more satisfying.

The 'Don't go' line is actually used during the final boss when all the social links are telling Yu to wake up. Golden got rid of it, but the PS2 version has it.

I really can't understand why they'd remove this. I mean I know why the higher ups were probably homophobic but still. We need more wholesome confessions.
I don't understand why there is so little gay and female fan service? There's a clear market for it, hell, with all the Boys Love novels I have seen it's surprising that it is kept to just that small corner. The issue with BL is how those that is really all there is to them, the story and characters rarely go beyond there and I never become too personally interested with them. I'm one of the people who'll agree that fan service generally ruins shows, but with all the straight guys fan service there is it can't hurt to add some more for the females besides the guys "being cool", I'm not really interested in those kinds of guys and would like to see something that gives them more personality and would show their vulnerable side more. Yosuke would have been great for this since he makes me think more of an "innocent, flawed" high school boy rather than being more of what the protagonist is, cool and calm. I would love for it to have been Yosuke, but I'm really ok with it happening much at all anywhere that isn't just Boys Love or gay movies. It somewhat seems as though they feel the need to segregate that into it's own place so people won't accidently stumble upon it...

If I remember correctly it was implemented originally but cut because it made beta testers uncomfortable.
One thing about it though is, why add something just to pander to the audience rather than focus on the character's mindset more? Yosuke could easily be gay or bi, and I think it's canon that he's at least partially bi, but I don't see him dating. He acts the way he does around Kanji for a reason, and if he'll act like that toward him, do you honestly think he's secure enough about his own feelings to go after that? I don't think so. I think even he finds it weird. It isn't just about not letting people stumble on it, that doesn't matter, it's about if the character even is dateable, because yeah, the girls want relationships, does that mean the guys do too? No. If you want real gay characters, making them only sometimes dateable is the way to go, because honestly, alot aren't. Alot really aren't comfortable even with themselves on it, aren't confident in it, or just only delude themselves into thinking they are gay or bi, rather than actually being it. To me, I'd love a persona gay option where eventually he just decides it isn't for him, because that's the reality of this. Not everyone is, and people need to see that in video games, that not every game with dateable characters should always include a guy in the roster for that.

The majority of queer people just want to live their life without hate, and those that do repress it usually do so because it's not safe for them to come out or they're convinced that it's wrong or immoral. A story where a gay character starts to open up but then closes back up again is not very inspiring or tasteful in the current climate. The real problem with Yusuke's whole thing is that they had a really great opportunity for character growth by showing him moving past his insecurity and learning to accept himself. I'll agree that that doesn't necessarily have to happen because of the magical power of gay romance, but since many queer people face romantic loneliness due to there being just not as many gay/bi people as there are straight people and therefore less people to date, him ending up with someone he loves would be empowering. Though of course then he'd face the problem many bi characters have of being reduced to "just gay" or "just straight" depending on who they end up with. But that's another discussion entirely.
So Atlus deleted this for what reason... Oh right its Atlus they hate us and want us all to Persona 3 ourselves out of our hatred for them
