I haven't played an sf game seriously in a long time. I picked up sfv and eventually chose Vega cause he always was interesting to me in the old days of SF. His character type and agility is just perfect to me. Hes a boss.
My favorite thing about the 'killed his stepfather' story is how it gives Vega this sort of heads-I-win, tails-you-lose way of justifying his own hypocrisy; you think a kid who grew up in that situation would react really badly to the idea of women being hurt, but Vega has no such qualms. (His winquotes in SFV have really taken a step up in terms of violence, to the point where he's talking about bathing in Chun-Li's blood!) If you tried to make him see the light by saying he's no better than his stepfather in that respect, he'd probably just be offended that you compared him to such an ugly person. After all, they're nothing alike! He's BEAUTIFUL, duh. It's basically an extra filter added on to how he sees good and evil. Is said person beautiful, or ugly? If the former, can do no wrong; if the latter, wipe them off the face of the Earth. Reminds me of this story about some Greek or Roman lady who, when accused of a crime (don't recall her name or if even the crime was a violent one), got acquitted because of how beautiful she was - the idea was that someone so gorgeous had clearly been blessed by the gods, so killing her would just bring down their wrath. Another interesting thing about his character that's come out in SFV is that Vega seems to believe beauty only 'matters' if it comes with a degree of suffering. He expresses distaste at the Dolls because they've been wiped of all emotions, and keeps putting off fights with Chun-Li until she's learned the truth about her father's death. Of course, in earlier games there were also hints of this, since he remarks to characters like Sakura that he doesn't want to kill them until they've become more mature. So, if his family history is canon, he might see that as the contributing factor to his beauty...and why he revels in his bloodlust, since it brings out the beauty in other people. (Can you tell Vega's pretty much my favorite villain, too?)
Very good character analysis, I mostly agree with you. The irony is that, since to him beauty equals goodness, his narcissism and constant strife for physical perfection is his way of striving to be a good person. His backstory made him a really interesting character, far beyond his original simply amusing narcissism.

I like the work that went into this "Who Dat" series, Subscribed;) Also, did you do the thumbnails, and any of the other artwork? I'm an artist myself, fun style, good stuff.
+mbtoober - Thanks for subscribing, it's appreciated! As for the art, nah i'm not much of an artist. This particular picture of Vega was drawn by the shows lead artist Smai. Sometimes i might get another artist in to draw some of the work, so always check the video descriptions for links to who does what. Thanks!
Vega is has lots going for him and he is on one of amy fav next to m.bison I would see video on leader of shadloo.. there is lot about him i know nothing of other than his link to rose.
Thanks, but truth is I really hate Vega, but love the Street Fighter series, and lore. I just enjoyed Digi's style and presentation, after watching his other Who Dat videos, I have a great deal of respect for all of his work. That's all. And greetings from Los Angeles CA Digi Peace;)
Really?! That's surprising because once you learn how to play him he's one of the most effective characters in the franchise. When I was a kid he was the second or third character I managed to defeat Bison on hard with. He's really quite good if you put in a little time to learn how to use him.
I find it funny how M.Bison, Vega and Balrog's names are swapped. In the true canon in Japan, the black boxer, M.Bison, (Called "Balrog" outside of Japan) his name is short for "Mike Bison", which is a play on real-life boxer Mike Tyson, Vega is the leader of Shadaloo (Called "M.Bison" outside of Japan) and Balrog is the masked Spanish fighter who wields a claw (Called "Vega" outside of Japan). It reminds me of the Blinky and Clyde name error in the Pac-Man series. In most Pac-Man games, Blinky (The red ghost) is Clyde and Clyde (The orange ghost) is Blinky. For example: Blinky chases, Pinky ambushes, Inky scares easily and Clyde isn't very smart. In reverse: Clyde (Blinky) chases, Pinky ambushes, Inky scares easily and Blinky (Clyde) isn't very smart. Isn't that weird?
Another superb video! You're on a roll with these man; a interesting choice of character, and a really informative video! I learned a hefty amount from this; and production values were of course stellar as always! :) Again, I'm jealous of your shirt dude, haha! I eagerly await the next episode!
***** Thank you, mate!! :) As for the shirt, if you're interested - TeePublic. I found it around the same time i was buying those SEGA Hard Girls shirts from Smai, lol. Look up someone named 'spdy4', they have a bunch of different control-pad shirts.
Finally! I am glad that all that info has been collected up and discussed in a single video. Though i do agree that is hard to tell the canon from non canon, but there is potential in that story arch that it seems to be leading to.
Shadow Dinosaur Network Thanks, man! :) I wasn't even sure if i should have done this episode on Vega considering how uncertain his backstory is, lol. At the very least though, hopefully this video can help open the doors on the subject a bit. Thanks for watching again, man! :)
Vega is awesome in the classic 1994 Street Fighter anime movie. His personality really is well presented. BTW just subscribed , that's a great channel you've got there bud 👍
You should have way more subscribers than you do, this is a quality product & I personally just love the slang you use, lol. Im from America & never hardly ever hear some of the stuff you say. Good shit man, I look forward to more of " Who Dat "
Fact When street fighter release in japan their name is reverse originally named Vega is the dictator M. Bison is the boxer And balrog is this ninja with the mask Capcom change their name because they are afraid that mike tyson will sue them if they use the m bison on the boxer with is mike bison and not mike tyson.
First time watching one of your videos, you got a new sub here. Love that you're working your own style of humour into it very well, definitely checking out the rest of your Street Fighter character videos at least.
A little missed opportunity to use KMFDM's Ultra, which was Vega's theme in the English dub of the Street Figher II Animated Movie. That song essentially transformed what was essentially a scene taken from a slasher film (where he was known as Balrog in the Japanese release) into one of the most hardcore fight scenes in the movie. To give an idea, the music in the Japanese version is standard Capcom composition, almost similar to their PS1 titles (with the music that plays while Ryu and Ken fight Dictator later being used in Street Fighter Alpha). During Claw's fight with Chun-li, you'd half expect Albert Wesker or Sigma to appear and wreck you. Then there's the US version which opts for a more grunge-oriented soundtrack which makes the movie seem more like a standard action movie, including bands such as Black-Note, Tricky, KoЯn, Alice in Chains, and KMFDM. The best example of this musical change is in the opening scene where Ryu and Sagat fight in the Outback. In the Japanese version, the music sounds a bit like the FFVII opening, while Americans and Europeans got an atmospheric track interlaced with heavy metal and the sounds of a coming storm.
A spanish ninja......science damn it. Yet again you've persuaded me. I'm not upset, rather impressed by how convincing you come off. I'm now taking interest in maining vega for the fact you chanted the phrase, "spanish ninja." I cant keep watching your videos, i'm going to run out of them.
You're doing awesome job with these videos, man! Everything is on spot - from great sense of humor to overall high quality - and the person doing all of the music should get a medal or two. And you're reviewing all of my favourite characters from the series, with gentelman above being my #1. However, my question is - do you plan on doing character reviews from other fighting games - such as Guilty Gear or Blazblue? Anyway, keep up the good work - nowadays it's hard to find something worthwhile on YT - and your Who Dat is just a cure for that:) Cheers!
Vega has always been my Street Fighter main. He's always been a more constructed, independent character than the rest and I really like that about him.
Vega's hair explained: Vega is indeed a blonde. People with blonde hair change shades throughout the seasons. During summer months, their hair gets lighter; during autumn and winter, they're more of a dirty blonde.
I love Vega to death, he got me into fighting games just from his look alone. Just a shame that a character with such a great story and look is regulated to always be mid tier at best. I guess Capcom still hates how he broke the old SF2 tournament scene with his endless Izuna Drop set ups.
I didn't play Vega since he was a "charge character" until recently; but I always thought him to be one of the most interesting characters. Plus I liked the extra mechanic of him loosing his claw and mask if he got hit too much.
Didn't know who this character was but you went into great detail with him that I got interested in the character as well. Nice work again DiGi this series has been really good so far!
RiDEL Thanks for watching regardless, yo! One my aims with this show it to introduce characters to people who might have never spent any time with them before. So i'm very glad to hear you still watched this episode. I appreciate it greatly, thank you!! :)
Vega's family made their fortune in the shoe industry, specializing in shoes made from "rich Corinthian leather". His fighting style -- Ninjador? Bullshitsu? Vegatarian? Who knows!
Whats crazy is that this guy always got overlooked by me, and i never thought of playing with him seriously then i heard they were redesigning him so i tried him out and i liked him a bit but not enough to commit i seen this video and fucked up enough i saw a bit of myself in the character so for the past few months i put so much work into him that i got pretty damn good with him this video made me a vega fanboy for life lmao
Kefkaesque13 That was intentional. I'm saving that for either the Balrog (Boxer) or M.Bison (Dictator) episode since this episode was kinda packed already with a lot of stuff :)
***** Thanks for watching! As for Zone Runners, yeah we're working on multiple projects right now in fact. Got a few in the pipeline. Don't worry, there'll be more music on the way soon ~
Hi DiGi, would you mind if i did something like uploading this video on my channel but with spanish subtitles? cause i would definitely give you credit for it. I've been thinking in making a game with Vega as the main character, i never played an Assasin's Creed game but i would add some aspects of that game series as best as i can do it.
thanx fr the amazing vid! Wish u cldve also coverd his name was balrog. bison was vega balrog was bison the name m. bison was a play on mike tyson. bt then i think capcom either feared legal issues or just didnt wanna take chances n made the changes in non japanese releases
Payaso Balrog represents mans lust for Money, like Bison for Power, Sagat for Strength, and Vega for Beauty, and im bored so have a cookoe for reading this
Incubus Lord Thanks, man! :) And honestly, i was VERY surprised to see Vega make it in, haha! XD I think he has great potential as a character but i didn't expect Capcom to choose him when there's so many other characters that they could pick from. I love what they're doing with Vega now though, his new moves are awesome! I'm curious to see how his story is going to play out. Things could get very interesting for him.
It does seem like Capcom is changing up some things with SFV, so maybe that means some more story potential - one of the things I love Mortal Kombat has evolved. So we'll see if there's more to Vega than psychotic ninja bullfighter. :P
Incubus Lord Yeah! Mortal Kombat has done really well with story telling. I loved what they did in the last two games, it was great! Honestly, that is what i wish Street Fighter would attempt to do because Street Fighter really does have some great concepts going on in there, it just needs to be explored properly. When you have characters as rich in detail as this it's a shame not to explore their journey's in greater depth.
I don't play Assassin's Creed, but if Vega was the playable character and it was a Street Fighter Universe, I'd totally be down! Plus! Him having Bison's key to immortality makes his story arc incredibly good, or maybe Bison himself finds Vega as the next body to host his psycho power. Japanese Bison is Vega anyways, why not combine them?
Lynne Triplett What if there was a theory about Vega being dead all along and the only reason Chun-Li can see him is because Chun-Li see's dead people? ....think i just ripped off a film or something there.
I only ever played some of the early street fighters but Vega was always a favorite character of mine. Him, Chun-Li, and E. Honda were just awesome IMO.
bobcat946732 Street Fighter is definitely a fun little series to jump back in to if ever you're interested. I'm personally looking forward to Street Fighter V at the moment, that looks like it might be a lot of fun. And Chun-Li, yeah! That's one of my personal favourite characters right there! Thanks for watching! :)
Didn't expect another Street Fighter Who Dat so soon! I'm not complaining, I love the characters in SF more than the gameplay itself (more of a VS guy). I didn't know that Vega was that deep. I always just thought of him as a Balrog tier flat character but man, you showed me wrong. I'm wondering though, is that maybe-canon stuff from the UDON SF comic? Because if so, I think it is - Capcom and Udon work close together (they did all the SF4 cutscenes and art) so I wouldn't see why not.
***** Haha, thanks man! Yeah, Balrog is pretty flat. I've tried to look at that character a number of ways and there's just nothing going on with him at all ...can't wait to do an episode on him! :D lol. As for the reason i done another Street Fighter character, i'm building to a schedule i've drafted for myself at the moment so there might be a little bouncing back and forth while the show starts up. Once it finally gets rolling though i'll be exploring other games and mediums like comics and cartoons too. It's just going to take a little bit of time to get there since making an episode takes a lot of work at the moment, lol. Slow start but hopefully this will build in to something huuuge! In regards to Vega and his backstory. Vega's nobility and upbringing within a wealthy family household has been mentioned a few times, but the reasons as to why he becomes such a psycho is never explored so fans kinda pieced things together. They know he studied bull-fighting and ninjutsu, that much is certain.. but how he ended up at that point and becoming a cage fighter/assassin is never explained. I read the Udon comics and there's not much in there aside from him being 'wealthy' and 'crazy'. There was a short film made a while ago called Matador which loosely explores this backstory too, but aside from that there's been nothing from Capcom directly to say just how Vega ended up the way he did.
Believe me, we all love using the ancient art of Bull Shitsu xD
Yes.
It's odd- but in the SFV story mode, Vega is humanized a lot more, and he's shown to be smarter than the other Shadowloo henchmen.
I haven't played an sf game seriously in a long time. I picked up sfv and eventually chose Vega cause he always was interesting to me in the old days of SF. His character type and agility is just perfect to me. Hes a boss.

***** Haha, awesome! XD And i'm very happy to hear i've done them justice for you. They are great characters, it was fun making these episodes on them! Thanks for tuning in to the show! :)
M.Bison wants to rule the world, Sagat wants to be #1, Vega wants immortality and eternal beauty, and Balrog...Balrog just wants money, money, and more and more money$$$$$$$$$.
Finally, someone understands me 😊 Although I must admit, I also love Chun Li xD
me too!
+VegaRoseForever Screw you Vega, you said i was uggo
yomama
oi blud am i beautiful ?
VegaRoseForever
and so does Vega?
As a Street Fighter fan, this is an amazing series you have. LOVE IT!! Subscribed!
He's really quite good if you put in a little time to learn how to use him.
indeed
Man I love this channel it's so informative and funny good job DiGi Valentine 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
BLEED FOR ME, HA HA HA!!!
Great stuff you got here. Can't wait to see what you have planned next!
Cool story, bro. Can't wait to see what you've got planned next.
The4thSnake Thanks, yo! :D
Again, I'm jealous of your shirt dude, haha!
Another fantastic episode! Keep 'em coming!
Jayko Reynolds Thanks very much! And i'll try my best! :)
Vega owned the word flamboyant before tengen 😂✨
Assassin's Creed style game with Vega as the main character? SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY
this is great. i hope to see more character analysis's
I love this series, it's quite educational. I learned many things such as loafers.
Wow great video and great job on 1000+ subs keep up the good work
Danny Enriquez Thank you very much! I'm glad you liked the video, thanks for watching! :)
Np
Fact
When street fighter release in japan their name is reverse originally named
Vega is the dictator
M. Bison is the boxer
And balrog is this ninja with the mask
Capcom change their name because they are afraid that mike tyson will sue them if they use the m bison on the boxer with is mike bison and not mike tyson.
Call him Mr. Raider? Call him insane? Call him Mr. Vain!
grandpagohan1 Bingo~ ... lol, i love that song! XD
DiGi Valentine Me too. I even created a character based off the song, only it's Vein, instead of Vain, because blood control.
First time watching one of your videos, you got a new sub here. Love that you're working your own style of humour into it very well, definitely checking out the rest of your Street Fighter character videos at least.
I'm in love with Vega since forever xD
Great review man.
One of my favorite fighters from any fighting series ever
I love the intro animation. It looks awesome
Vega has always been my Street Fighter main. He's always been a more constructed, independent character than the rest and I really like that about him.
Despite him being evil, I still find Vega hot. Is anyone going that same contradiction?
Vega's hair explained: Vega is indeed a blonde. People with blonde hair change shades throughout the seasons. During summer months, their hair gets lighter; during autumn and winter, they're more of a dirty blonde.
Vega vs Cammy
Vega vs Abel
Vega vs Ed
Vega vs Charlie
Vega vs Talked
Vega vs Alex
BATTLE OF THE BLONDES
My favorite fighting game character
great video, I agree that Vega has the most depth and is the most interesting bad guy in SF lore.
Vega confirmed for SF5!
lostinaseaofdreams Brilliant news! Very happy to see him make a return :)
Plus I liked the extra mechanic of him loosing his claw and mask if he got hit too much.
great video vega my favorite sf character
I main vega, he is vain. (No rhyme intended)
Bullshitsu? Vegatarian? Who knows!
happy birthday vega!!! :3
just found out jamie lee curtis once cosplayed as the narcissistic matador & now i can't unsee it.
Dang, was hoping to see more about his interactions with Chun Li. Still good vid though
I love this video its awesome
Destiney Vega Glad you liked it, thank you for watching! :)
DiGi Valentine your welcome
I need that Vega theme used in the conclusion!
A bit surprised you didn't at least mention the Vega/Balrog/M.Bison name switcheroo.
Kefkaesque13 That was intentional. I'm saving that for either the Balrog (Boxer) or M.Bison (Dictator) episode since this episode was kinda packed already with a lot of stuff :)
i agree with the blonde brunette thing
w h y capcom
same with sagat's eyepatch. left or right?
Considers himself the definition of perfection, yet wears loafers. Maybe his beauty in the end is really just skin deep.
Tentacle Touchy ...unless he considers loafers to be ..perfection? . . .this guy really is insane! D:
I thought they were granny slippers!
Great job digi the way you explain Vega back story and rather he is Canon or Noncanon you did better than Capcom
I feel more informed on Vega. :) love the show. Keep it up and any hints on a new album or Zone Runners?
***** Thanks for watching! As for Zone Runners, yeah we're working on multiple projects right now in fact. Got a few in the pipeline. Don't worry, there'll be more music on the way soon ~
Hi DiGi, would you mind if i did something like uploading this video on my channel but with spanish subtitles? cause i would definitely give you credit for it. I've been thinking in making a game with Vega as the main character, i never played an Assasin's Creed game but i would add some aspects of that game series as best as i can do it.
thanx fr the amazing vid!
Wish u cldve also coverd his name was balrog.
bison was vega
balrog was bison
the name m. bison was a play on mike tyson.
bt then i think capcom either feared legal issues or just didnt wanna take chances n made the changes in non japanese releases
Damn, I laughed, instantly paused the video and clicked on the like button after hearing that Mr. Vain joke.
Payaso Balrog represents mans lust for Money, like Bison for Power, Sagat for Strength, and Vega for Beauty, and im bored so have a cookoe for reading this
Loved this video. Subscribed. ;)
Incubus Lord Thank you very much, man! Really glad to hear you liked the episode! :)
Watching your other stuff now, really cool. ^^ But I really love how you somewhat predicted Vega appearing in SFV. ;)
No amount of water can quench my thirst for this vega
500 subs...No sir, I'mma sub Right NOW
***** Thank you very much for choosing to stick around, dude! I appreciate it greatly! Thanks!!
I learnt things I never knew. Edumacational. That fan theory is actually pretty cool even if its just a bunch of headcanon.
5:35 same thing with ryu, in one game he has red hair, then it changes to brown then to black.
What version of Vega's theme is playing around 0:40? It's so cool!
These are brilliant
Yo your vids are dope
Can you do Ivy Valentine from soul calibur and Nina Williams from Tekken
There was a short film made a while ago called Matador which loosely explores this backstory too, but aside from that there's been nothing from Capcom directly to say just how Vega ended up the way he did.
where can I find the vega theme remix used in this
+DiGi Valentine could you do Cammy White next or maybe Pullum from the EX series
Keep going digi!
Tiago I'll try! XD Thanks for watching!
7:05 insane clown posse XD
