Fishing with Shrimp and Fiddler Crabs at Weedon Island Preserve

We're back at it again, fishing the flats around Weedon Island in St. Petersburg, Florida. Me and Sean went out for an early morning sesh, where we sat through a slack tide waiting for the bite to turn on, and casted around the many mangrove islands in search of the fish. The fishing did not disappoint either of us on this trip and neither of us went home empty handed. Sean managed to get his inshore slam and I was able to wrangle up a couple of stud sheepshead and a nice redfish. Weedon Island is definitely a fishing gem in the St. Pete area worth visiting whether by land or kayak. Thanks for watching and leave your questions in the comments section below.

That stretch of Weedon Island is an idle speed / no wake zone. The signs are posted everywhere, kayakers are everywhere. Any boater with the capacity to operate a vessel knows what idle speed no wake means.

Nice! Just finished loading the goods into my truck. We’ll be renting a boat out of Tierra tomorrow morning and hitting the flats. I’ve hooked a few tarpon randomly around the Skyway and Pass a Grille but never really targeted them. Would definitely love to get one on the kayak though.

@@saltwatersessions Funny day, overall it was slow but I did run into some reds and ended up catching my PB 33 inches. Outside of that some trout and ladyfish. Was over at FD.
