    You are the savior for all of us hopeless, Tool obsessed guitar players looking to take a step up in our playing. Just by watching and learning from your videos and studying Adam Jones' playing, I've finally made it past that hump of being considered an "almost intermediate player"
    My playing has gotten MUCH better in the past few months since I've gotten deep into the world of Tool's music. Thank you for being the stepping stone that got me over that annoying hump in my playing career

      @@allboutthemojo Look at the part where Adam does he breakdown and the 2x3. www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/tool-vicarious-tab-s56870t0 there are versions where people think it was an extended powerchord or only one 3 and 5. I that makes sense.

      @@travisbennett3332 thanks for songster. Didn't know about that.
      According to me the first chorus line 54 is not 100 percent accurate. It's a power chord shape like Greg shows in the lesson. Sounds better that way.
      And the first set of triplets is not how I play it. I play 0 3 5. 0 3 5. 0 3 5. Not 0 3 5 , 3 5 like the tab shows

    With respect to that totally awesome riff that Adam does for about 10 seconds or so in Schism, Adam (to me) seems to never overplay his guitar. Rather, Jones choses to exercise some rather extreme discretion so that we will appreciate the fact that that riff is in there however, we can never get sick of it because he just allows us to get a small taste of it. It's *not* like his other riffs suck in the rest of the song so I feel perfectly content waiting for it to come near the end of the song. Adam is such a phenomenally tasteful musician, guitarist, & artist.

    Great stuff. Just getting into this type of music after a long, long layoff from guitar. Love the tool tutorials. Perfect circle as well. I heard someone (probably me) compare them to Black Sabbath in structure. Adam Jones is very efficient, and he does quite a lot with just a few notes. Very similar to Iommi’s style. Keep up the great work. I’m totally hooked.

    This is fascinating, although he uses a nomenclature unknown to me. Makes me appreciate Adam even more now and I learned about the Phrygian Mode as well. Their music has always struck a chord with me that I never could quite understand. It's elemental.

    • @Dannyk-jh8lv
      @Dannyk-jh8lv 4 роки тому

      I know exactly what you mean! You connect to the music like no other band before and for some reason, it's easy to grasp something called "Phrygian Mode" because you truly love the concept of being able to see something so complex at a granular level.
      At least that happened to me when I saw Tool last January and felt that too. Haven't listened to anything else since, really. And I've since totally changed from poorly playing a couple Incubus or Dave Matthews songs every couple weeks or months, on acoustic only, to now spending a couple hours every day hoping soon I'll be able to play the Jambi riff or those absurdly intimidating hammer triplets.

    I started off trying to emulate Adam Jones' style and this helped me break into unusual time signatures. And though I had written some stuff before like this -- because I was new to the instrument -- I was unaware that even some of my early riffs were not in 4/4 time. Eventually, I got very comfortable writing stuff outside of the 4/4 box and now, I have developed a style that is completely unique to me. I like my style but I just wish I was better at tying together and filling things in between my many riffs so as to complete a song.

I saw TOOL live last night and it inspired me to pick up one of my guitars for the first time in years. Adam makes it sound complicated and different but you made me immediately see what he's doing and how to get that sound. Fantastic video.

    • @marcelwilliams8236
      @marcelwilliams8236 6 років тому +3

      Actually i don't think it is even though he is a big fan of Meshuggah, it was more likely that it fit with the classical music approach to the album & it was said that Jambi is influenced by the iambic pentameter & it was probably just a riff he was messing around with & thought this would work for this track, i know that is definitely the case with the talkbox solo, he said he was waiting to put a talkbox solo on a song & when the song was being developed he said "it has to be in this one!"

    I remember a long time ago in the pre-Bias era, you posted two Tool presets for the Pod HD. I actually found some software to convert them for my Pod HD500X (100% compatible, by the way. Pretty crappy of them to make the file types unique).
    Those are still my two go-to patches. You put love into those presets, and they sound shockingly better than anything on that board; stock or custom. It taught me a lot about how to get a decent tone out of that device.

    i am surprised that this well rounded journeyman hasn't seen fit to mention Mr. Jones's extension of his range by melding his playing's phrasing with the feedback generated by the magnetic fields thrown out in his 'sweet spot'.
    Mr. Jones takes his skills to another level and dimension by exhibiting the evolution of his seminal use of invisible interactions with textured magnetism to manipulate the feedback in a way that artistically counterpoints itself while providing a new layer to the groove to build off; self-counterpointing all the way if he wants.
    Brilliant !!
    And that skill has got steadily better over the years, if you're interested in my opinion.
    i'm out. Thanks for reading this.
    P. S. - yeah, i know - - the same effect can be approximated through the intonation of the strings and even by scalloping a fret or three. Perhaps Mr. Jones uses a mélange of the three, impresario that he is. Just saying. Thanx for reading this.

    A question to Adam Jones fans, I will grab in few days a Navigator Les Paul Custom, that has been upgraded (or maybe downgraded) with a SH8 Invader. I plan to change the pickups in the spirit of Adam Jones tone, what pickups would be the most appropriate? I am currently thinking about a BKP Holydiver set, but if you have other set that may fit I am all ear.

    Love the videos, been a long time fan and have learned so much cool stuff from your channel... but the new intro man, it's good it's nice n short, but it's doesn't sound good at all IMO, it's gotta go... Keep up the fantastic work!

    Another great lesson! I use phrygian a lot myself. I really hope Tool branches off from their styles in the new album. I think it's time for some tempo changes during the song, key changes, tuning. Personally, I want something different.

      Toxic Potato True. Those simple concepts can still be achieved with the style changes I aforementioned.

    I appreciate the idea, but a lot of those transcriptions are very wrong. A lot missing.
