Almost the recipe my mother gave me. (My mother was from Georgia) She only used one small can of pineapple. And she got a jar of maraschino cherries and cut them in small pieces and added them. Gave color and sweetness and flavor to the ambrosia. The juice from the cherries is a good addition instead of extra sugar, and extra juice if the oranges lack juicieness. Try a batch this holiday season and let me know how you like it!

I have loved ambrosia for many years. Sometimes i change the fruits depending on what is in my pantry. In my family, it is my sister who always has sharp knives. I must be very careful when cooking at her house. Lol. Thanks for this delicious recipe. I never thought of giving ambrosia as a gift, but I would be thrilled to receive it as a gift.

My grandmother made her ambrosia exactly like this and served it in a footed bowl just like yours. One of my all time favorites!

Your recipe sounds closer to the traditional or original recipe than the versions of ambrosia that came later. There was a lot of diversification, depending upon the regions and personal tastes, and there's still some debate on whether it's considered more of a side salad or dessert. Every time I have eaten this, it's always a little different, but everybody still labels theirs ambrosia.

You remind me so much of my mom, your hair is just so, the tops you wear and your jewelry and she was a fantastic cook & baker just like you! ❤ love to watch your videos!

    Love ambrosia!
We combine drained pineapple chunks, drained mandarin oranges, equal amounts of sour cream and marshmallow fluff…that’s it! No coconut.

My family only used oranges and coconut-no pineapple. Sounds delicious though. It is labor intensive, cutting and peeling all those orange, especially for a crowd. It is always appreciated and enjoyed.

My Mother used pineapple tidbits instead of crushed. She also added maraschino cherries too for color.

This was Thanksgiving and Christmas staple in my family (with pecans in it too), served in a punch bowl with the fancy cups😊 it had more juice though.

I grew up in Florida and ambrosia was a staple at Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was mine and my Daddy's job to peel and section the citrus. We always used oranges and grapefruit. We didn't use pineapple, but cubed up red apples (skin on), bananas, maraschino cherries cut in half with the juice, and sugar to sweeten (the amount of sugar depended on the amount of fruit). We always made a couple of gallons so folks could take some home after dinner. We also usually had to change clothes after peeling and sectioning the citrus because we had juice dripping from our elbows before we were done.

The first time I enjoyed Ambrosia was when I was young and we went to a big cafeteria in Myrtle Beach. It was absolutely delicious! Thank you for this recipe memory nudge.

This recipe is the Ambrosia I grew up with! No need for other ingredients like bananas, cherries, and marshmallows, it's delicious just as you make it!

Errybody errywhere has an omission and/or addition to this recipe! 1950’S Better Homes and Gardens recipe(my Gran gave me hers) calls for the pineapple, oranges(mandarin) green grapes, bananas, coconut, and-Ginger Ale(optional). Nuts in some parts no nuts in others, marshmallows in some ..you get the picture lol. Personally, I think it has morphed thru these years and ambrosia is combined with the fluffy stuff! Love ALL it’s versions, and these days, I need simple! Thanks MeMe!🙏🏻❤️

Yum, in Texas my Great Grandmother would add whipped cream and some jello and pecans. Do you have that recipe and call it something different? I really enjoy your channel and stories.

I make ambrosia with fresh oranges, apples, bananas, grapes, peach, pear, pineapple and pecans mixed with coconut ,small marshmallows and cool whip. When I'm in a hurry,I drain a can of fruit cocktail, add coconut, pecans, drained can of mandarin oranges, small marshmallows and cool whip.
Yours looks good and simple but never have had it that way.
I was wondering, I just found your utube channel and I dont have Facebook so you show your cookbook. How do you order your cookbook? Do you think you could give a address, phone number and price on one of your utube videos ,so we can put in a order. Thank you.

When my gramma would serve her ambrosia , she would cut up a banana in it. She always served it with a piece of her pound cake . Sweet memories . PS,, I NEED YOUR COOK BOOK

I never remember having this dish. My parents were from Oklahoma and I was born and raised in Texas. Evidently Ambrosia wasn’t a tradition with our family. But it looks good. I’ll have to try it.
