The Pigeon pose is a powerful thigh stretch that requires high mobility in the hip joint. It also stretches the front and back lines, depending on the back position.
The Pigeon pose is very commonly practiced, yet not everyone is aware of the high injury potential when a person is practicing the pose with limited mobility or too aggressively.
It’s important to understand the challenge in this pose and know how to handle it, both for beginners and advanced practitioners and yoga teachers.

A good tip for anyone starting out in yoga. Do what you can and don't push your body past what is comfortable. Your body will gradually open up and allow you to do the poses in time.
No not true! If you don't have the exact proportions, pelvis shape and hypermobility that a lot of the poses require, time will make no difference. We need to stop selling this lie
@@chellep7463 I think she’s talking about working your way up to the full stretch. Form can be achieved without reaching the full stretch. Form is always a given. The point is to work your way up to the full stretch and to not push is - WHILE MAINTAINING FORM. The endgame is to NOT F YOURSELF UP. 😂 Remember the original yogis practiced throughout their lifetimes.
@@carrington2949 yeah I don't subscribe to "full expressions" or " full stretches". Not something I believe in personally or want to participate in
Sounds like you’re a quitter. Stop making excuses and take your practice more seriously and you will see results. I thought at someone over 6 foot I’d never be flexible but now I can put my food behind my head
@chellep7463 correct and it’s not just beginners it’s also age related, health related and injury related. :)
Extremely valuable information. Seeing the anatomy underneath adds to the compassion I have for this vessel of mine. It has solidified for me why one should honour the limitations of the body. Thank you!!
This video has literally helped me to reverse months of hip pain in just a few days. It’s so valuable to know how to do these poses correctly, and this is just perfect
I always wondered why I couldn't keep my knee at a 90° angle without it wanting to fold back 🤦 I just tried it while focusing on the femur rotation and keeping my knee very bent... I feel it now. These videos are great and I would love to see more!
Whoa this is exactly the quality of information I’m looking for!
Your channel is the best! Audio always perfect...marration too. 3D WOW! Thank you so much.
Great video, great explanation. I'll be sharing this with my clients. Proper posture and listening to the body is most important for prevention and long term health and wellness.
Just found this. I’m77 and do yoga every day. This is a pose I have been doing every day because of piriformis problems and it helped immensely. I appreciate the detailed mechanics of it.

I really enjoyed the explanation as to what happens to the body during these motions. I wish yoga practitioners would explain in more depth. Some of their warnings are a little vague.
Easy pose for me❤ interesting to see

@@MuscleandMotion thank you for this, definitely will introduce this to my yoga teacher friends
Oh thanks, that's what I was looking for ,and now I'm exactly looking for a video for SI joints pain😢,would you help me sir??????🌷from the Hague
Funnily enough pigeon may cause si joint pain. This Asana requires the sacrum to be in two anatomical positions at the same time which it doesn't naturally do. It can't nutate and counter nutate simultaneously
Please, put muscle actions of pelvic floor exercises for pelvic floor dysfunction (tight pelvis, incontinence and all)
Nothing, absolutely nothing, could have explained it better than this video. Thank you M&M
Por favor hagan con subtítulos en españole pierdo mucha información. Gracias.
Une version sous-titres en français serait bien souhaitable 😉🙏👍🏼
Wow it cured my back pain

Absolutely valuable clear and extremely well formulated explanation. Highly appreciate the graphic demonstration that accompanied your explanations. Outstanding professional tips. The best video of all! Thanks ❤❤👏🙏
My go to stretch for tight hip flexors ;)
Bc carefully over doing pigeon. It targets the deep six muscles, not the glutes like people think. Your deep six muscles are your stabilisers and too much stretching statically will ultimately switch them off, not what you want. Add some activation stuff first before static
Thank you for posting it's very helpful! Although I quite often wonder where the names for many poses comes from, let's be honest I have never seen a pigeon do something like this 😅
This comment cracked me up 😂
@@callarati 😅 that's what I think about when I'm doing new poses - where does it come from/where's the logic and then I started to laugh and usually end up on my face
Same...! I mean I get the Cobra and even the Tree pose but the Pigeon...eh...@@justmeiam4996
I have a question. I did what I wasn't supposed to do. The damage is done. I did exactly what you said about knee rotation. This happened in Sept 2020 and I have been going to the physio. Close to a year and thousands dollars later, I still struggle.
What is the best way to fix it?
So sorry to hear about your knee. I injured my knee with a poorly suited kettlebell exercise and continue to pay the price. I hope you have since found some answers and relief.
Chinese squat sitting helped me with glute and hip flexer loosening. I noticed I could do this a lot easier after that.
Upavesasana or the hip wide squat with arms folded in prayer position with elbow pushing against each knee has great benefits as well as awesome precursor to the asana in this video.
How about if you have hip dysplasia?
🙏
Can we do this n case of hip avn stage 4
I wish I had seen this video before doing my knee in.
Is this stretch bad for people who have sciatica nerve problems?
Cheesus H Crust this channel is great.
What if i have pain at the back of my knee?
My fav pose for tight gluteus 👌
I wanted to know how level your hips need to be to do this pose correctly. I always feel as though I should be flatter to the floor.
What software is this animation made with?
Yeah my knees hate this pose. As does my left hip. It sucks though because the stretch is SO nice!
You just need other stretches first. Its an advanced move.
@@spontaneousbootaycould you tell us which exercises, please ?
I can do it on my left side but not on my right :/
@@SophieTherese-re1zb it depends on your situation but i will say that its likely deep lunges and the couch front hip flexor stretch that are tight from sitting. Just get down and start moving your legs in a circle around you and slowly move into the tightness.
@@spontaneousbootay thanks (thought I can't imagine how I could get my legs moving around me lol)
Translation please
Вау Супер 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏😘
