@@loretta_3843Lord Mountbatten was a very violent child monster with probably hundreds of associated disappearances. My guess is that the apple didn't fall far from the tree. For example, 10 children in Canada went missing after a picnic with Queen Elizabeth in the 1950's. Not one of them has ever been found. Many British people think it has everything to do with adrenochrome. It's really grim stuff when a person looks into it.

While I like some of the reconstructions and their adding Martha Tabram to the list of canonicals, I hated their almost desperate attempts to make Kosminsky their man. I was a witness to the suspect of a violent murder, though not to the murder itself. One thing I learnt was how utterly unreliable witness testimony is. Though it was daytime, and the killer's disguise was noticeable, the witnesses entirely contradicted themselves on things like his height, his hair colour and a host of other details. Some argued that he was over six foot. I am five foot five. I walked past him and looked straight at him. I was not looking up. We were around the same height. It was impossible for me to have looked directly into his face if he was six foot plus. I would be looking up. I wasn't. It always made me doubt the reliability of witness testimony subsequently.

I knew there were flaws and false claims presented as fact, but not to the extent you just brilliantly exposed. I missed some of them back then and wasn't aware of others (such as the location of Kosminski's abode at the time) I always thought it was baffling double standards of Wilson to on the one hand finger outwardly abnormal Kosminski while on the other hand argue that the Ripper was somebody normal who put the victims at ease. Seems he wanted to have it both ways. Totally unprofessional.
There was a more recent (Channel 5?) multi part documentary I hope you will tackle in time. In that, they tried to convince the viewers that none of the victims were um, 'unfortunates/ladies of the night'.

Patricia's first Jack book is a nice read though and she does try very hard to delve into his mind and motivations. Her writing about the 'Dear Boss' letter stationary was really good in the novel and needs to be further examined I think. It seemed like good evidence to support Sickert as Jack. I always wondered if Lechmere ever met Sickert at those underground clubs and other debauched places. I don't know why both men seem so very similar. One with an eviscerated knighthood and the other with an eviscerated manhood. I could imagine a fictional film where they 'work' together called "Sick & Lech" - sounds scary! I’m not so sure if the BBC documentary falls into the category of ‘hoax’. They had little to gain by that. I suspect it’s just lazy research. The producer probably read Martin Fido’s book on the matter and just ran with it without thinking. The other issues were just carelessness and/or laziness.

Why are you lying? The police were hot on the trail throughout, due to advanced thinking by Inspector Abeline. He was conducting door-to-door enquiries down the murderers street quite early on, having employed investigation techniques which were decades ahead of their time. The killer was witnessed and reported, duly arrested, identification confirmed and he was dealt with through legal process. There was no publicity. The fantasists have no interest in the truth and thereby wrecking a lucrative industry preying on the gullible. I'm actually withholding details as you lot don't deserve to know.

Does he research these cases before going in front of the camera (beyond Wikipedia)? My guess: I think the people involved, like him, would rely upon the evidence given to them from the producers/writers/directors of the show and clearly, that can be tainted with bias and sensationalism. His criminology theories are sound, but I'm guessing he's shown only half the evidence, to support the producers claims.

I watched this before watching the BBC documentary. What I found really striking was them discounting Tumblety because he would have an American accent, but seconds later describing how their suspect had emigrated from Poland a few years earlier! I would think it’s fair to say that Kosminski would have also had a noticeable accent. Also, if you believe that the writing on the wall in Goulston Street graffiti was written by Jack the Ripper, is it likely that Kosminski misspelt his own religious sect like that? It would be more likely that he’d slip back to his native tongue and write Zyd.
I do think Lechmere is a more likely suspect, but I’m not convinced of his guilt. I personally don’t believe we have ever identified the real Jack the Ripper.

Imo not enough attention is given to socio economic factors. Firstly, the intricate local knowledge of those who seldom use transport. They walk, every day, and have more chance to see private, hidden areas.
Secondly, the lack of clothing options for the working poor. For a man customarily unemployed to have an entire change of clothes would be rare. A working outfit with a shabby coat, yes. But two presentable leisure outfits would be rare, specially with distinctive coats or jackets.
Also someone changing his clothes unexpectedly would be an object of curiousity in his household.
Three shirts meant a man was doing well. One in slightly better condition to wear when at leisure, and a well worn if not ragged shirt for physical work was the norm, and the "good" shirt along with the "Sunday" coat were often pawned so weren't available.
Therefore i certainly don't think Jack popped home to change and it seems irrefutable that he was someone who lived close to the sites, had done so for many years, and customarily and often walked the streets.
