    Hi Richard. All I could say when you unboxed the first one was WOW. what an amazing piece of art. This one should be just as stunning when Lenore finishes it off. Thanks for showing real time on some of it. I think either 2 or 3 are the best hanging positions. I love watching your videos Thankyou for sharing this one. Cheers. 🇦🇺

    Bang up job mate. I just love the organic look of burr. (Or is burl? Haha) The broken concentric rings work well. I have a few pieces at home and have seen several of yours.. every time I look at them I think aztec settlements. So damn cool. I thought it looked wonderful off of the lathe, but the gold leaf really makes it pop. Definitely has me thinking about the lost city of Gold!! Personally I’m hung up on position 1 or 4. But the fact of the matter is it would look damn nice whatever position one would choice. I’m gonna start calling you Rocket Man.. out of this world…..

    Two or Four. As I work my way through your catalogue this is my favourite by a long way! Can't wait to see the finished product and even the box you send it for gilding in is such a high end and professional product. @WoodWithD  Рік тому +1

      Thank you Larry.
      Never been a fan of lacquer or polly or the like, always 1 layer of wax, after denibbing the sander sealer and finishing to minimum of 400 grit, or up to 3,000, depending on the type of wood 😁👍

      @@WoodWithD Well Dick You asked for it:
      One month to finish this piece of crapppp and all you do during the wood turning process is flap your bloody gob, and then you attempt to influence my decision on how the damn thing should hang. Artists and their need for recognition and ego stroking. SHEESH !!!!!!!😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫. A beautiful piece, Lenor did an excellent job with the first piece. Position 3 is my choice, and no you did not influence me, my computer is equipped with subliminal messaging scrubbers. so there 😝😝😝

      The next video I make I’ll do with NO words 😶 and see how you like that! 😁
      I asked for comments on position as a ploy for lots of comments on the video which assists with the algorithms with UA-cam to recommend ones video to other viewers, which in turn generates subscribers if they like a UA-camr who likes to flap his bloody gob 🤣👍

    Does Lenore use coloured metal leaf, or just pure gold leaf? Because I think this would look fantastic with a mid blue or bright green gilding. Ordinary gold is too close on the colour wheel to the orange-brown of most wood, and doesn't stand out well.

    • @WoodWithD
      @WoodWithD  Рік тому +1

      I’ve had this discussion many times with her, we have used colours in some bowl interiors and rims, and they sold well, but after 12 years now of selling at art fairs, gold, silver and copper sales far outdo the colours. I think the gold looks good in the finished one shown near the end of the video, the refraction of light is what differentiates the colour and Lenore says the gold says expensive like nothing else 🤣👍😁

    Love your videos, especially as you take us through your thought process. One thing i was wondering; how have your sales been? You do very unique work so wondering if there is a strong market for them. I know an artist does not do what they do for sales but am curious.

    • @WoodWithD
      @WoodWithD  Рік тому +1

      Thank you John, much appreciated 👍👍
      Sales are good, not amazing, but defo good. Takes a while even at an art fair to get a customer in front of you that both loves your work AND can afford what your asking for it AND has the space to display it. Prices have to reflect all costs, from the obvious cost of materials, to hourly rates, transport to shows, show costs (and trust me when I say there’s a difference in cost between an art show and a table at your local village hall craft fair). And as for being an artist, I guess, I just make what the wood tells me, sometimes it’s a standard bowl, other times the wood has fare grander ideals 🤣👍🤣

    Hi Richard! I would opt for 3. For me, option 2 and 4 are ‘downhill’ for the piece is higher on the left side than on the right side. It always occurs to me as a negative thing. But that must be a personal thingy. (I was wondering if it would be possible to have 360 degree French cleat system with an outer ring and a smaller inner ring. Obviously the inner ring must be smaller and it might not support the piece properly )
    Any ways, a wonderful piece you and Leonor made again!

      Hey Frank, good to hear from you sir. I like that idea a lot! And may incorporate it into a future piece if you done mind! Or least do some tests!
