    Jordan, thank you by starting with naming the players. I love your use of slow motion, your highlighting of the ball and the paddle head and replaying the same section several times talking about different aspects. Also your defining of terms was helpful. Great delivery of content. Thank you for your thoughtful, detailed content.

    This is a great breakdown. I like that the commentary speaks of each players positioning on the court and paddle height. Best of all is how you show each play over and over in slow-mo so that an observer can really see all the little details that you are pointing out. Excellent video. Hope to see more of these high-level breakdowns. Thank you.

    excellent breakdown, love this kind of analysis i'm a 4.0 trying to advance and this really helps. would like to see the same point except with a third shot drive, fifth drop, or maybe a shake and bake planned in advance. also im suprised pesa didn't shift over to keep the middle less exposed, you commented on it, but i would have expected more shifting in general

      Yes, after looking at it I was a little surprised too. Although this is breaking down one point in a match without the full (game) context. So it goes without showing previous points.

    Great Video. love the slow mo shots. On the down the line passing shot that requires a lot of touch and is risky super easy to miss long.Joes reaction to me looked like he thought it would be long as he didn’t lunge for it. Earlier it looked like you had a high enough ball and both opponents were towards the edge giving room to split them down the middle and force them to try to half volley it probably weakly setting you up for something cross court in the space they left.
    As a player in my 60s I try not get engaged in long rallies but try to take advantage of every opening to try to win the point, longer rallies the more chances I get mess it up! It also helps me learn things not to do by playing up a level where strategy comes in more and power slamming not as much. I always learn something from your videos so thanks for taking the time to make them.

    Jordan at around 8 min you talk about it not being necessary to have your paddle up so high in the ready position, but then when you speed it up, watch how much your opponents paddle has to travel upwards to make contact with your ball. Interested to hear your thoughts

      He could have had a little bit higher paddle position, but either way I think the spot that I hit was perfect, and would have still been tough. You are right though, at the kitchen line maybe a bit higher paddle position is better, in transition, a lower paddle position is ideal.

    Can someone clarify for me: the 3rd shot drop was great; however, I've noticed that when I hit a nice high and deep 3rd shot drop, the returning side will take one to two steps back, giving up some ground at the kitchen in order to drive the ball right back with heavy topspin. Any nuances here to look for? Thanks!

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  Рік тому

      This is very common, your drops may be landing too high or too shallow.
      I would suggest lower to the net drops landing near the NVZ line

    What is that quick paddle spin you do after a backhand dink. The Dylan Frazier tick? 😂

  • @caseydog237

    Excellent video. I’m probably a 4.0 coming from tennis and the tip to keep the hands lower at the net was counterintuitive but makes perfect sense. Saves time for setting up a dink or reset. Obviously when playing against weaker players, their balls will end up being higher a lot of the time so the need for low hands is reduced. Can’t wait for my first 4.0 tournament. Only have been playing pickle for three months. Addicted.

Thank you for the well put-together video. I will definitely be watching more

    I assume on a speedup (at least for a backhand) that you do not change your grip. Instead you lead more with your wrist is this correct? I'm kinda new but I get a lot of the placement strategies, I just am not consistent enough. I also don't think I've ever hit a speed up shot well especially from the backhand.

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  Рік тому

      Depends what kind of backhand shot, but if you are hitting a backhand topspin shot from below the net, you will lead from your wrist.

  • @adimperial

    Awesome. What I would love to see is a video dedicated to tennis players transitioning to Pickleball. As I mentioned about the drop shot in tennis (better drop shot lands closer to net and lower over net) whereas in Pickleball as you mentioned in the video this isn’t necessarily the case.
    And just other tips for tennis players regarding what translates and what doesn’t translate to Pickleball. I like how your instruction (technique) is similar to tennis because I still play both and don’t want one sport to mess up the other. But I think the tactical aspect is where it differs which is where I would be interested in learning. Thanks!

    This is a great breakdown. I like the commentary and the stop action, checking on where everyone is standing. Ooh, see how Joe didn't shade to the line in response to which opponent (Jordan) was going to hit the ball. And high ready position of one's paddle at the net doesn't apply when opponents can flip a roll volley with topspin downward from just below the top of the net. Where they are holding their paddles before Jordan's BH roll volley when they see his paddle head drop down in prep? between waist and knee.

    Excellent video. Thank you. I somewhat disagree, however, about keeping the paddle down at the net. I think the paddle should be higher, ready to take a fast ball. Joe proved that theory when he had to chicken wing and pop up the ball because his paddle wasn't up. Of course your excellent shot at him had alot to do with that too!

    • @BrionesPickleball
      @BrionesPickleball  2 роки тому

      The chicken wing had nothing to do with paddle position. Watch more pros play, they will keep their paddle in a low position.

    I’m only 4 minutes in but I learned something that I’ve been wondering about which is the drop. Of course in tennis, the closer it lands to the net (and lower over the net) the better. But I see this isn’t necessarily the case in Pickleball.

      Technically, he should (and I think I mention it), although at higher levels, he’s expecting me to hit a good dink and anticipating that ball to come back cross court. Either way, my partner in this scenario is fast and quick enough to cover a fast ball down the middle. This is why he can do this.

    Love the frame by frame with detailed analysis. The first time I've seen you use it, keep it up.

    Great video! Love slow motion analysis. Going to keep paddle low, keep wide stance when I pop it up

    You're pretty far off the line on the first attack. Would you want to be closer if you replayed this pt?

      Maybe. I’ll try to point that out in detail next time.
