    Isn't it funny how the car that you're embarrassed to drive around in when broke is the exact same car that you're proud to drive around in when you're better off.

      Its honestly probably because you dont have to worry about reliability issues and as the cars gotten better you have become proud of it and now have pride driving it

      Even when I found a job that pays me alot more now I do IT, I still have the 98 corolla it got me here to there its dependable, reliable I got the 5 speed manual. This car helped me get to where im at now, the maintenance and repairs were pretty cheap it still runs strong and i feel really confident that it take me to my destination.

    This is my favorite generation Corolla. The simple body design never looks outdated. Clean lines. The straightforward (happily plain) interior and "light to the touch" driving feel make for an easy relationship with these Corollas. Thanks for saving this one, and giving it a chance to keep on keeping someone's car relations simple.

    I have a 98 with 180K . They do need upkeep and someone who can DIY the repairs. They are cheap to fix actually...nothing on them is expensive.
    A few months ago I put mine up for a week and replaced a leaky gas tank, the fuel filler neck, all 4 tires, brake lines to the back, new brakes and rotors/drums all the way around, all struts and finally replaced the washer fluid reservoir...$800 for everything.
    Always keep an eye on the oil level and of course keep an extra set of door handles handy.
    Also I put in a $35 Walmart Bluetooth stereo..works great.

      My dad had one of these, and each of us four kids independently accidentally broke all the door handles on separate occasions…twice 😂 luckily they’re cheap and easy to replace.

    I found this channel because of your Corolla series and i love these videos more than i can tell you. Seeing these cars saved makes me so happy because until you own one(which mine is a Geo Prizm) you have no right to knock them. They run and run and run without much fuss. Sadly as stated, people don't want to be seen in them anymore because society has brainwashed people to think they need a new car to be cool. I would rather have a fleet of these in my driveway than one brand new car. Keep up the Corolla videos as it's your bread and butter of this channel.

    Thank you for restoring these cars. There are tons of people out there who want to drive these old "cash for clunker" destined cars, but don't want to spend thousands on some BS mechanic to fix it. If I ever win the lotto I'm going to start a business specifically for restoring and reselling these old cars lol

    I have a fully restored 2001 corolla Sport, new paint, clean interior, and still running smooth. I'm sure anyone who wants a touch screen could add one in themselves. I might add one to mine honestly, I mean heck it's a Toyoda for crying out loud it's not gonna die at least for a little while. 🙃

    I have a 94 Toyota Corolla LE and it had 96,000 miles when I bought it
    For $2,300 in 2016. Here in 2022 it now has 162,000 miles and I've had to replace fuel pump, shocks, struts, coils, spark plugs and 02 sensor. All parts were original from first owner. Runs like a dream, but new replacement front exaust pipe ratting like crazy and slowing exceleration down. Boyfriend will be replacing it again soon. Great cars, they are built like a tank. Had a kid on a permit crash my rear back right end three months ago, he really crushed it pretty good, insurance paid for damage and got it fixed like new.
    Still running strong. Older Toyotas rock.

    Funny, I just bought the same exact car, in the same exact year, trim, and color for my daughter for $1,200. Bought from a lady that works at a Toyota dealership. It was regularly serviced there. There are a few issues to sort, but mostly cosmetic issues. Seems to run and drive surprisingly well for a 200k mile 25 year old car with working AC (mandatory here in South Florida) I love the simplicity of these cars.

    I've had it for 4 years and I haven't had to repair this car at all. I only needed something for the air conditioning once.. and that's it.
    It's good on gas and it's so great. I love it.

      It's been done. Easier with a 3speed as shown in the video, since they don't have TCUs (all hydraulically controlled). 4 speeds will need a different wiring harness and a TCU if swapping into a manual and vice versa.

    Picked up my 99' CE for 900 bucks, running and driving. For the value and reliability I've experienced so far, you can't beat it. Especially with how shitty new cars are being made at the price your expected to pay. For that old radio. Just stick a Bluetooth radio adapter into the cigarette lighter port.

    • @klwthe3rd
      @klwthe3rd Місяць тому +1

      These cars burn oil. Just check your oil regularly so you don't run them low and you'll be fine. Eventually they will burn about 1 quart per 200 miles and then you'll have to make a decision. Get a new used engine or junk the car.

    My aunt drives one. Every single outside door handle is brittle and broke off. She lost the lens on one of her blinkers, it has a bad valve cover gasket, the spark plug wells fill with oil and have to be drained every now and then because it kills the spark plugs, but the damn thing is still kicking. Besides the common problems with these cars, thee funny thing is I can always tell when one is near before I even see it. The engine has a distinct sound that I've heard from all of them. It's like a metallic scraping high pitched gun and I'm not sure what part of the engine it is but they all have it.

    I would have used the 4 speed and put a piece of wood between seat and brake pedal, and switch to drive. I had the 3 speed auto 97 corolla for 5 years and 60mph was at 3000 rpm. Really wish i got the 4 speed

    • @klwthe3rd
      @klwthe3rd Місяць тому +1

      Yeah the 3 speeds at highway speeds are very busy. But just turn your radio on so you don't hear it. Yes the 4 speed is quieter and gets better fuel economy but these cars are amazing in any form you get. I personally have the 3 speed auto and i just don't drive 70 mph on the highway. If you go 55 it isn't as buzzy.
