If they do use Superman, I hope any edginess they use is to bring back some of that Golden Age spirit when he wasn’t afraid to rough people up in order to better stand up for the oppressed
I think The Flash with a fresh new concept would be solid! (My idea of an 'Ultimate/Absolute Flash' is Wally West as the Flash, and A Flash in a high school age)

i discoved this with my friend back when we both got into comics, but Marvel loves wars and DC loves crisis
That's one of the reasons I stop caring or even reading comics everything is a war crisis or multiverse story. You can hardly tell what is canon or not, the characters also hardly get relax
And readers get Anxiety 😅😅
If it's another Earth, no problem. That's a very old DC tradition. I have zero interest in another change in continuity. Every time they "fix" continuity, it creates more problems. It's way past time to stop picking at it. We can live with some ambiguity and even some confusion, but regularly adding new ambiguity and confusion ain't it. Find new ways to "fix" characters. I also would not trust any reporting about this. Every time somebody at DC changes the coffee filter in the break room folks online start screaming "reboot".
It's because folks have been burned and we have trauma lol But like I said, not saying this WILL be a reboot but I'm just wary. We'll see what happens. It's just a rumor at this point as you said. So we need to take it all with a grain of salt imo. Still interesting if we get a new Elseworlds / alt earth where creatives can be a little more free to tell stories outside of the continuity that are a bit more bold. I'd be down for that.
If it's DC's Ultimate Universe--fantastic! If it's a new reboot, they need to commit and run with it for the foreseeable future.
There really does seem to be a push against the constraints of continuity by the creatives of comic books who just want to do whatever they want with existing characters.
I know right? it's frustrating that someone can come in for a run from issue #230-#410 and not care what the person before that wrote and throw continuity out because they want to write it their way regardless of whether it makes sense.
I once had a short conversation with Roy Thomas about this. I complimented him on his writing and he kind of scoffed saying that there were far better writers than he was.
I told him, yeah, but one thing I always appreciated with his writing was that he always respected stories that came before his own writing, that a current trend was to take a character and force that character into the writer's own style regardless of if it made sense with the character's history.
He just kind of smiled and shrugged and said, "Well, I figured if I was going to do something like that, why write an established character? Why not just create a new character to tell the type of story I wanted to?"
If DC wants my money again, this absolute line should basically roll back to 2011 before the new 52. If they really really want my money, they should go even farther back.
I have no interest in current characters, but I would love to revisit the old characters again

The fun thing about DC Comics playing fast and loose with their continuity is that I don’t feel like I have to keep up with it to enjoy a story
Marvel can be a little intimidating as an outsider. I wanted to read the X-Men after Avengers vs X-Men but it feel like all the titles were working far too in sync to ignore one of them - so I was like “how much money do I need to drop to get a coherent story?”
If you get a tablet everything marvel publishes is only 10 bucks a month
Ughh i'm so tired of all these crisis's and eras, golden age, silver age, post crisis, New 52, rebirth and now this. I wish they'd just tell linear stories where you like manga you start at issue 1 and go in a line to issue whatever. I'm tired of the lack of continuity and internal consistency. It's not that hard, Kurt Busiek did it with the Astro City universe G.R.R Martin and others did it with Wild Cards why is that so hard for DC? DC needs to get their s__t together.
I started my collecting in the 70’s with primarily Marvel , got into DC later on , & they eventually became about the same to me, until now where I prefer DC …that being said IMO the only Absolutes at DC is except for relatively small periods Superman & Batman are always the same …I’ll wait to see where this one goes…Staying Nerdy 🖖🏾

I don't read comics that often or at all really but NGL this kind of interesting to me and yeah your not lying about DC rebooting too much because even as someone that doesn't read comics I keep hearing about DC rebooting like the Flash doing Flashpoint to reboot DC into the New 52 and then recently Watchmen's Doctor Manhattan rebooting the DC universe and now this Absolute DC thing like what the hell 😂
I hated that, Watchmen was great when it was a self contained universe it had a beginning and a end. Another thing they did was folding Wildstorm, you know the morally grey universe of Team 7, Grifter, WildC.A.T.S., Deathblow etc into the four color morally black and white world of mainstream DC. Wildstorm worked hen it was their own universe why try and have The Authority be a past of the same universe as the Justice League? It doesn't work. Let Wildstorm be Wildstorm.
I am curious if this new ultimate dc universe is going to happen or not because in all honestly I don’t see absolute power connecting to this ultimate dc universe.
I don't mind the Elseworlds type stuff . I also don't mind the continuity being tweaked now and then . However , I think that the main line , within reason , needs to stay the MAIN line .

Yeah, I was pleasantly surprised by it.
DC continuity has always been a really tricky thing to juggle for reboots. Partly when they insist on keeping characters from the previous continuity. For example: How many Robin’s has Batman mentored from young teen to young adult while still perpetually being in his 30s? Dick, Jason, Tim, and Damian.
The one thing I always thought about DC is that it is a collection of smaller comic book companies. It's almost impossible to be cohesive because of that which is why they came up with crisis events. This is a chance to restart the universe we're all of these things can coexist or at least I'm hoping that's what they're trying to do
absolute power is in the mainline universe, not an alternate one. the stuff that has led up to all of this includes what is going on in the main batman, superman and wonder woman comics and so, on. waller is taking over everything and is trying to drain all the heroes of their powers while also making her own private army to replace the heroes. if you have been reading the mainline universe comics you would know exactly what she is doing.
Yes, I know Absolute Power is in the mainline and I know what Amanda Waller has been up to but what I'm focusing on in this video is more Absolute DC, which is rumored to be spinning out of Absolute Power. Absolute DC is supposedly not in the mainline but will run sort of parallel to it, like an Elseworlds. Pretty sure I say all this in the video but just in case you were confused. :)
I actually wanted New 52 to work. I liked the idea.... a lot. That, to me at least, was the benchmark of failed internal communication on DC's part. If they had just kept a concise storyboard going for all the titles and creatives to follow, it may have been the great thing they (and me) wanted it to be. What are the chances they learned from their admitted mistakes?
This news sounds interesting, if it's true, hopefully we'll get to see alternative versions of DC characters & storylines( bit like Marvel's "what if" comics) or get darker versions of the characters
It would be good to see this new DC line working with other publishers like: Image, Dark Horse, 2000AD etc

It's not really a reboot; it's a separate universe. Think of it as an extended Elseworlds that cuts across multiple titles.

I agree. I like the idea of a fun new Elseworlds as long as it doesn't get all tangled up in the main continuity too much. I just hope it'll stay separate if that is the plan.

I say no, because J’onn J’onzz arrived as a adult of his species , where as Kal-El was a toddler…so unless Jor-El made it that his spaceship would create a 🤔 well fortune of solitude where he could grow and it taught him Kryptonian customs if not Earth , than I would guess he would be a very dangerous feral being 🖖🏾

But on the main subject of the video. I love the idea of an Absolute Universe at DC, my worries, though, come from Snyder… I mean, Dark Knights Metal was such a messy event, and it was lead by Snyder himself…
Fair enough concern. I think Dark Knight Metal had some cool ideas but yeah it was ... a lot. lol Granted it was built ultimately over a long time and was a culmination of a few previous events that all led into it as the sort of finale. So I'm hopeful that Absolute DC would be clearer by comparison. But still, I understand your concern. And I agree - it's been a lot of Amanda Waller lately. I really like Waller but I need a break lol
if thats the case they better pair wonder woman and superman as a couple again. and have a son or daughter, or twins.

I used to be a voracious DC reader, but lapsed somewhere in the late 2000's, tried to come back with the launch of New52, and have been trying and bouncing off ever since. I love the setting and cast of characters, but the continuity is just so muddled as to be completely unapproachable. Same goes for Marvel, so I've been enjoying offerings like The Boys and Invincible that offer more coherent storylines. I've jumped back into Marvel with the relaunched Ultimate line and I've been enjoying that, so hopefully Absolute DC will prove to be the new entry point Earth One sadly failed to.
Scott Snyder being in charge gives me a little hope.

Snyder did a terrible job when he was running the line. His Justice League was trash and the Metal events were almost unreadable.
I stopped reading DC when they started the N52.
I just can't stand massive reboots. You don't counteract bad writing with continuity sweeps. You counteract it with good writing.
While it sounds interesting i have no faith in DC executing it, so part of me keeps hoping is just rumors.
with Dc I try to read good comics, I think they dont have a real continuity since the New 52.
When will Batman give Superman his sixteen dollars? I need DC to give me an ending to this story. It's the most important story in comic book history.

It's not the characters that's the problem. It's the people in charge of DC that's the problem. If the creator's are not on point everything else will fall.

I wish i could get hype but i already know that in 3 year this Absolute DC will be reboot and become another New Absolute DC 32 or something -_- After the 32 I lost all the interest on DC i cant get into caracter because i know ill be reboot in the new 4 years
I have been a comic fan for over 50years, and I can without hesitation, I read up to 52 and than I am pretty much done. There is enough material over that 74 ish years to keep me happy and enjoy the characters as I know them ,
The same with marvel but theirs is a date when they chose to go woke and push the certain characteristics on the characters and fundamentally forcing it on the readers. So in marvel I go till 2018ish and then I drop off.
That gives me 80 years of reading. And of course you have 1000’s of golden age comics from dozens of different publishers and 1000’s of silver age comics from companies like gold key, seaboard,Harvey, charolton and so on. So to all of you comic lovers out there go support your comic book shops and buy tons of back issues . 100% profit for them
DC and Marvel comics are just two sides of the same coin. They're united purpose is facilitation/continuation of an agenda by way of dissemination to the masses, through various avenues of multimedia consumption. Yes they are competitors, but both share the same sponsors bts. Puma and Adidas, Coca-Cola and Pepsi, Republican and Democrat etc. Two opposing brands working different ends towards each groups respective goals related to finance, consumerism and societal programming/conditioning/change. Thesis + Antithesis = Synthesis. I appreciate the entertainment American comics have provided me over the decades (1984 -2015). But I just can't bother with the supraliminal, subliminal and liminal levels of mental reconditioning and programming encoded within the various outlets of entertainment media. It's become to damn noticeable and obvious(from my stationed perspective axis). I'll just continue to find entertainment within the various Japanese manga and Korean Manhwa titles I have been binge reading,
minus of any NTR behind the protagonists back. Unless said NTR is being performed by the protagonist during his revenge arc. Where he transforms from pushover into a figurative (and sometime literal) 4chan demon edge lord. What the he'll was I talking about again ?

I used to love DC comics till they started keep on killing the hero every dam time. Not like marvel. Marvel is still the best.
