    I remember starting to watch your channel as boy 9/10 years ago. I was about 12/13 then at school in the UK I am 22 now and have graduated high school, college etc for some reason your videos came into my head today and I am really happy to see you are still making videos! Your channel was a part of my childhood and loving animation and animation history was a niche interest to say the least at my english school watching your videos was like discussing my hobby with a friend each time. Hope you are doing well and after all these years it is nice to watch those old videos again!

    Even though it may still be a little while, I’m still excited to see Joe’s videos on not only Aladdin and The Lion King someday, but also more short films from both Disney and Pixar(especially Feast and Geri’s Game which are my favorites)🤓👍🏻

    This actually makes a lot of sense, the way you're describing it. I never understood what was the purpose of removing things from their streaming service if it was made exclusively for that. Like, why not just leave it on there? Who does it hurt? But now that I see it was a way to get around having to pay residuals, that is way more disappointing.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  Рік тому +2

      Yeah, unfortunately, the only reason any studio would remove films that they own the rights to/have exclusivity over in terms of streaming would be to manipulate the residuals, and unfortunately, that's one of the major reasons why these strikes are happening at all

    • @Taydar
      @Taydar Рік тому

      @JoeTheDisneyGuy not true. The reason to remove is because to have the show on the streaming service you cannot expense out the cost. Only by disposing of the show can you take the show to the profit and loss statement and reduce your tax.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  Рік тому

      @@Taydar Both are true, as it also costs the companies to host the content, but either way, the removal of original content hurts the people who worked on the show/movie and benefits the corporation, so it's inevitably going to be a sticking point in a strike like this

    • @Taydar
      @Taydar Рік тому

      @@JoeTheDisneyGuy residuals would be such a negligible cost that it wouldn't create a dent in the savings required though.

    I think another issue is I don’t think Disney has done the best with their marketing lately in general, even before the actors’ strike.
    When Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny released, I asked my uncle, whom I’ve seen all the Star Wars and Indy films with, if he wanted to go see it with me. He had no idea there was even a new Indiana Jones. And thinking back, all I remember seeing is the occasional trailer in theaters and the scant ad on TV or online every now and then. Didn’t seem like they were pushing it very hard for a film that cost ~$300 million to make, and as a result it didn’t perform well.
    Granted, part of that may also have to do with the bad faith for the franchise after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but you would still think a big name like Indiana Jones could fill seats regardless of the previous film’s infamy. I mean, Star Wars: The Force Awakens made a TON of money off the heels of the prequels.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  Рік тому

      It does feel like Disney is super beholden to early impressions of their films and then values their marketing based on how well they believe it will do before its even released, which admittedly feels a bit backwards to me, but on the flip side, they do own/release so many films in a year, I guess I can understand picking and choosing your battles, to a point

    • @TANMAC43
      @TANMAC43 Рік тому

      Seems like the company’s just in a really weird spot right now. The only major hit they’ve put out this year is Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3. Elemental did okay, but it was a slow climb, and while The Little Mermaid definitely made a profit, it underperformed a bit.
      Also take into account that Mandalorian season 3 wasn’t very well received or viewed compared to the past two seasons. And the seemingly bottomless well of profit that is the MCU might finally be starting to dry up a bit, after projects like Quantumania and Secret Invasion flopped.
      It’s gonna be interesting to see how the studio works its way out of the funk. Personally I’m hoping for more of a push for original stories, as I’m getting a bit burnt out on following the big franchises.

    Fun fact: Both “Haunted Mansion” and “The Marvels” had their release dates swapped. “The Marvels” was set to premiere on July 28th but after poor test screenings was delayed for reshoots and had its planned date swapped with “Haunted Mansion” for November 11th. Hence why McDonald’s has “The Marvels” Happy Meal toys right now even though the film is not set to premiere until November. Interestingly, the original “Hocus Pocus” also premiered in July 1993 and didn’t do well. My best guess is Disney allowed this so that “Haunted Mansion” can premiere on Disney + in time for the Halloween season in October. Great video as always Joe. Keep up the great work! 👍

      Wasn't aware of that, so good call there.....granted releasing Haunted Mansion two weeks after Halloween and when some people (and the California Haunted Mansion attraction no less!) are starting to gear up for Christmas still feels like an insane self inflicted wound to me

    I think your show works well as a podcast. You could take the audio from your videos and just upload them wherever people listen to podcasts. I feel like that could be simple enough and will benefit by bringing additional sources of income from your already existing content. I would definitely listen while in this car or on a walk. Could also upload random clips from your old reviews to that site where people upload shorts. I think my comments getting flagged for naming that other platform. Could open up more idea or opportunities if you choose to.

    my question to Disney is how could they not see the success of Barbie & Oppenheimer they knew those films where in production the only film they really did not see success in was Sound of Freedom (which Disney could have released but decided to shelve )

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  Рік тому +1

      I thought the writing was always on the wall with Barbie, especially once Gertwig and Robbie became attached to the project, but again, my major contention with Haunted Mansion's release was on the tail end of the summer blockbuster season, for a Halloween-esque movie that certainly wasn't guaranteed a major response anyway, just seemed like making a movie DOA

  • @sorcerersapprentice
    @sorcerersapprentice Рік тому

    I totally agree. Disney releasing the Haunted Mansion movie at the beginning of August doesn't make a whole lot of sense. It's at the tail end of Summer and is up against against the fucking Barbie movie and Oppenheimer. The only logical explanation is that Disney wants the movie to come out on Disney+ in October. But if that's the case, why not cut your losses and just realise it on Disney+ then? Idk, it's just a bizarre situation. But with Disney not being the best with advertising over the last couple years, it's not that surprising to me anymore, even if it's ashamed since it's Disney's 100th anniversary.

      I'm not sure 500+ views should be considered "little views" for a Disney news video. I'd say that's pretty good for a channel that hasn't uploaded regularly for like 2 years? A ring light could certainly make the video more appealing, but I personally don't mind the way it is. I'll usually listen to these videos when I get a chance and have them in the background. There's nothing to really see as far as the video. As long as the audios good.

    When people use Igers wage they already lost the argument. Of course he gets paid a lot. He's a CEO of a multinational business. He has responsibilities and has to make decisions that normal people couldn't possibly imagine. What's does an actor do, show up and remember some lines. It isn't comparable.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  Рік тому +3

      I don't think anyone is arguing that a CEO shouldn't get paid more than an actor, but where the argument has come up is from someone like Sean Gunn, who pointed out that CEO's used to make 30x their lowest employee and now they make 400x their lowest employee. As I mentioned, obviously times change and salaries rise, but the argument of the union starts to become "how can you claim you can't pay writers a fair wage while you're making 400x their salary"

    • @Taydar
      @Taydar Рік тому

      @@JoeTheDisneyGuy because they are now doing 400 times more the work. He has to make decisions that I certainly couldn't make. Sean Gunn basically does nothing. As mentioned his only responsibilities are to show up on time and recite some lines. Office workers have more responsibilities in their jobs than he does and they will be getting far less. Policeman, fire fighter, nurses etc all work much harder jobs and get paid less. When you think about it they actually get paid too much, which leads into the problem of the ever increasing budgets.

    UA-camr’s complain about the viewership... You have some good ideas. Execution could use a little polishing probably but it’s fine. But you can’t have these long pauses and complain and make videos talking about what you can do to make more money off of it when you don’t even produce. Tried to be a fan of yours, but this is pretty offputting.

    • @JoeTheDisneyGuy
      @JoeTheDisneyGuy  9 місяців тому +3

      Look, I readily admitted on multiple occasions in my general channel update video about how my infrequent posting in the primary factor in lower view counts and how I came to terms with that. And I have gone out of my way to never pressure any of my viewers for money or rip them off; I have the Patreon which I purposely only charge when I put out a fully edited video because of the infrequent posting, and in this video you're commenting on, unless I'm misremembering, I believe I only mentioned the Patreon at the very end just as part of my usual sign off. I was just talking about this recent delay on Twitter; it's frustrating to have to get surgery and then immediately move, both unexpected occurrences, right after you made the decision to come back to making videos and I'm certainly trying to work on creating another new filming environment that enables me to do this more consistently. I apologize if any of my channel has been off putting in the past year and a half, trust me, it hasn't been ideal for me either, but I'm hoping that once things get settled in my new environment, things can settle on the channel as well
