I bought a good 80% of those records when they came out..... still have them and play them.....fantastic times

yes pixies were American but were very successful in the UK in 90 and had chart records there..they were always in the nme melody maker and sound s magazine
I had a indie shop on Melrose Hollywood then and sold all those brit and shoegaze bands..great music..they forgot the Dylan's too
Manchester , So much to answer for.
That is Paul "Wags" Wagstaff from Paris Angels and allthough 3 of the guys involved with the band are now deceased he is still alive, he went on with Black Grape and Happy Mondays. The video above is not strictly accurate the guys were signed to Sheerjoy Records and then hit the big time and got signed to Virgin only to be dropped just as they finished recording their second and last ever album, due to legalities and money they never released the album. But guess what...and I think this is pretty awesome! They released it for free in 2015! You can download it on bandcamp, just type in Paris Angels and youll find it.. a true sound of Manchester in 1992 released for the 1st time in 2015.. I absolutely love that. Enjoy Peeps.

lb editor Fair comment. I thought it was music of the 90's. BTW, Swervedriver are listed but Raise came out in 1991.

It seems to reflect how they were getting more attention in the UK in 1990 than in the US where hair metal still ruled rock and grunge was still one year from blowing up and getting rid of that. Wikipedia notes that Bossanova reached number 70 in the US while the album peaked at number three in the UK. Pixies were even offered to play Velouria in Top of the Pops while in the US they were totally a weird underground indie band even within just rock music
