Clint Boon relives his Madchester years

- With the explosion of several new musical genres including the Manchester guitar band scene, the headline-grabbing rave movement and Europop, 1989 was a memorable year for music in the UK.
Oldham-based band Inspiral Carpets were one of the leading lights in Manchester's music scene in the 1980s - Noel Gallagher of Oasis was their roadie for several years.
Former band member Clint Boon gave BBC News an exclusive tour around some of his most memorable 'Madchester' haunts.

I gave the Inspirals one of their first gigs, Clint was a cool kid but they had a support band called 'god', bunch of Asain kids from Werneth, nice kids and all but very raw and noisy, it was the only gig I put on in Middleton that the owner refused his normal bar contribution as they drove a few regulars out in double quick time. I thought that very funny so gave the bands the whole door receipt as I thought they deserved it for putting up with the abuse. Circa 1989.
I don't remember anyone feeling berieved at all when the Hac finished because by that time it had been taken over by the' Hitman and Her' crowd. Also you'd think the Hac didn't exist before the scally bollox started which of course it did putting on loads of great gigs in the early 80's, something completely painted out of the 24 Hr Party People movie as were all the other great clubs around town NOT playing house music.

Its amazing that the Gallagher brothers were working for the Inspiral Carpets. I think Noel Gallagher auditioned to be the singer of the carpets, but he didn't get the job. Oh well the gallagher brothers are now minted anyway !!!

all nostalgia now - Manchester is getting as bad as Liverpool in remembering The Past.
He didn't get the job because the song he chose for the audition was an instrumental! Not too bright.
