    Man I had one of those Black and Decker drills for a long time. Best cheap cordless tool I've ever owned. It burnt up in a fire I was sad to lose it

      Great little drill. I only replaced that one with a newer model because the charger stopped working. The drill itself was superb for a cheap drill!

      @@andy.elliott.foreverpens heck yeah I was a young new homeowner when I bought it and it served me well, I was so happy with it for the price I bought the hedge trimmer as well as two extra batteries. So I had two chargers and four batteries. Now I have a nice DeWalt set that my mother-in-law got me on a wicked good sale.

    Hi, Guys!
    It's impressive to see what you get from scrap wood!
    I'm just thinking about a surface and thickness planer, but after this video I think I will not need any...
    Kind regards and best wishes from Germany, Thomas

      Hi Thomas! after I made this video, I managed to get my hands on a planner / thicknesser which made the job of making these wells so much easier! I made quite a few to sell, so it was well worth the investment (no Pun intended!!!) Thanks for watching!

    Fantastic idea! I'm wondering if I can recreate this by using the cheap wooden fence slats. I may pick a few up and give it a try. I've already made some birdhouses for gifts this year, so I think I'll be working on this one for next year, or upcoming birthday gifts.

    I sold a bunch of these , not exactly these. But I got a bunch of free wire spools. Used those to make the Base for the wishingwells . I only owned, a Skill saw a small mouse sander & a cordless drill at the time. after i sold my first one I was able to buy a used table saw. It had a bent fence & couldn't get strait cuts with it. but i still have & use it.
    I started making more wishingwells. Same way using Wire spools. & made a bunch of old school Hand water pump looking things. with a bucket as a planter . then bought a router . made a bunch of noodle boards. bought a small band saw . & bought a belt sander. Now I'm working on a few bigger things don't want to give away yet. But have a feeling, my new project is gonna not only buy me a new table saw. But also think my pallet work shed is gonna get replaced, with a proper shed. that will be turned into a heated wood shop. with dust collection. then I will not have to wear a dust mask every step of the way.
    but I've got high hopes for my new build. oh & I also use free pallets. & recently acquired. 30 Bowling ally pin setter pallets. so they are all 2x6 or 2x8 with 3x4 inch runners on them & they are 5 feet square. so amazing free wood. so To those who don't have much by way of tools you can literally build these with a hand saw & a drill. or hammer & nails .

      @controversialhunter8032 I love that story! I really hope your new shop dream comes true for you, really do! It's amazing what you can do from pallet wood with basic tools. People seem to love the rustic look. The only limit is your imagination. Good luck my friend, I wish you all the best for Christmas, The New Year, and all the years after that! Good luck!

  • @eddietorres3859
    @eddietorres3859 4 роки тому

    the blade guard should always be set about 1/8 inch above the stock that you are cutting. It seems that you had it at
    least one to two inches above the stock that you were cutting. Setting it too high will sometimes cause the blade to break.

    So are the wishing well “walls” 30 degrees each and then the “skirt” around the top 22.5 degrees each? I struggle to get mine neat and tidy at the top, I assumed it would be 30 degrees like the body?

    • @andy.elliott.foreverpens
      @andy.elliott.foreverpens  4 роки тому +1

      No mate, at the start the video shows a text box in the corner that says "tilt blade to 22.5⁰" for the drum section. The trim across the top is also 22.5⁰, ye should match perfect then!

  • @barrycarter7965

    Nice build: a few questions. You seem to be lucky in having wide battens; most pallets I can get have narrower ones. What types of adhesive were you using? There was a spray of some kind; there was a white guey compound but not specified and was that cyanoacrylic in the tubes? Also you seemed to mix two adhesives at one point. I'd like a much fuller explanation of that if possible. I am making wishing wells from 'recycled timber to sell as well, but also attempting to make some more sophisticated stuff like lighthouses and windmills. Some of the stuff on Pinterest is really cool and might well sell OK> What do you charge for your wells?

    • @andy.elliott.foreverpens
      @andy.elliott.foreverpens  5 років тому

      Hi Barry! Wide boards seem to be an issue with many people, so I guess Lucky would be accurate! For my wells, I use a 6" board. The most common ones seem to be about 4", so i recommend gluing 2 together, then ripping a 1" strip off each side. This will give you the right size board, but also but the join in the middle. Edge jointing is vital on this though!
      The spray is an activator for CA Glue.
      For the base and the roof slats, I use a combination of CA glue of exterior wood glue. CA Glue in the ends and middle, with Wood glue in between for strength. The CA glue acts as a clamp while the wood glue dries & I can move on with the project.
      For the sales price, I base that on the quality of the wood, and how nice it looks once its completed. If the wood looks a bit more rough, then I'l drop the price a little, but as a general rule, I sell them for €50 Euro each.
      Free plans are still available if you would like a copy. just email me at andydascouser@live.ie and I'll forward on a set to you. Any further questions, please feel free to drop me an Email or a PM message!
      Thanks for watching the Video, I really appreciate it Barry!

    Hey Man nice job. I have access to lots of pallets and this looks cool.
    What do you spray on every time you glue though?

      Hey Grant, the spray is an activator for the CA glue. It makes the glue set quicker. 👍

    You'll eliminate the camera grain effect by increasing your lighting - better to have a bit too much than not enough, especially with a digital camera. I own 4 for my videos and had to tackle this problem, and still do.

    can you explain the tape ? are you putting glue over the tape ?

    • @andy.elliott.foreverpens
      @andy.elliott.foreverpens  5 років тому

      Hi Rick. The glue goes on the Mitred edges of the wood. The tape acts a clamp to hold all the pieces together and close up the gaps. Really effective way to glue Mitre joints, even on a 45 degree cut on a box for example.
