Thanks to Freya for keeping you safe from Moose attacks. Now you can safely teach me wonderful things.
That is a great way to look at it!
You two are enchanting
Arne is like "bring it on" :-D hahahaha be careful now
😂😂
Hello ArneCarlos
Thanks for this new stitch. One day a moose will come to your window and Freya will bark "I told you so."
We can't wait until that happens!
Hahaha love this comment! It will probably poke its nose through the window! And what a nose that’ll be! Then you’ll have to knit them a sweater!
We have a huge problem with moose in Newfoundland, eastern Canada! They cause hundreds of highway accidents every year! We need more Freyas to scare them back into the forest!
I am going to misquote the late Bill Shankly( manager of Liverpool football club)."Some people believe knitting is a matter of life and death.I am very disappointed with that attitude.I can assure you it is much, much more important than that."
😂
I’ve recently discovered your wonderful videos. After watching a few, I was able to quickly learn the Norwegian knit and purl techniques that Arne has demonstrated. Being able to knit this way is a life changer for me because I have severe rheumatoid arthritis. The Norwegian method is very ergonomic and I experience far less hand pain. Thank you for all that you do and for showing me that I can knit again. I’m also a dog lover and very much enjoy your fearless moose hunter, Freya😊
Welcome to our channel!
Finally I have learnt to knit the Norwegian way 💕🙏 thank you Arne and Carlos
You are welcome!
Is it possible the to bind off in this rib too?
I am doing a sock pattern that calls for this ribbing for the very top of the cuff. Initially I hated this stitch because I was fumbling so much (we call it knit through the back loop), but I’m slowly becoming okay with it. 😆 Thank you for commenting that it makes for a skinnier knit…I was having a hard time understanding WHY the pattern designer was using this stitch, but wanted to stick with it.
You are welcome Danielle
Where have you been all my knitting life?? You, Gentlemen, are spectacular. Thank you for ALL of your wonderful tutorials
Thank you so much, I’m so glad you gave a really close close up of Arne’s purling. It looks beautifully sunny there as well. ❤️👋🏻😁👍🏻
Glad to hear!
i know I'm kind of randomly asking but do anyone know of a good website to stream new series online ?
Maybe Freya is seeing my cat name Moose! 😂😂 I recently came across you guys looking for a couple of books on Amazon called "Saltwater Mittens", about Newfoundland knit patterns and your book "Norwegian Knits with a Twist" came up in my search. I've been following you ever since. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and sharing some of your life and heritage.
Thank you for supporting us!
I'm looking at you do the Twisted knit😀 I think it looks very nice. I'm also seeing how you hold your yarn😁 how you keep it in one place instead of bringing the yarn to the front😉like I do, I do the Continental style knitting
I bring my finger to the front with my yarn to do the pearl stitch😏 as always hello Arne & Carlito's my 2 favorite beutiful people in the world😘 thank you for another wonderful video 🤗
Thank you for watching!
Use that rib all the time...my mom taught me...it’s a good one😁
I don’t think there is anything wrong with Freya barking in the background. It’s her home after all. 💙🐾 my baby boy is the same.
That is true!
Thank you for your vidéo. Always interesting to learn new techniques,I like.
Thank you Grazyna!
Freya is an EMWS (Early Moose Warning System). I am going to try that ribbing on my next sock, I like how it looks.
😀👍
I just started a pair of socks with K1, P1 rib but will rip out and start again with the twisted knit rib. Always inspired by you both! Lots of love from Canada. I was part of the late Toronto bus in St. Thomas, Ontario last Dec. and you were so kind to us all.
🇨🇦♥️🇳🇴
We are glad you enjoyed it!
This is my favorite ribbing for everything! Moose!!!✌🏻❤️🧶
😀😀
I just cast on for a hat for my grandson. I'm going to use this technique! Thanks!
You are welcome!
Hmm .. making me want to cast on some mittens, just to do this ribbing. Thanks!
You are welcome.
I'm going to knit this rib on my [almost-finished] headband. Thank you!
Have fun knitting Mel!
@@ARNECARLOS Thank you....it's a life-long hobby!
Hahaha, I was reminded of something my Ex used to do to joke around. He was a big riot, that guy. Well, must`ve been something I was attracted to in the beginning, lol. Anyway, he used to shout out and point with his finger in a random direction, when he wanted to distract you from something and go: "Oh look, a baby moose!" Hahahaha, so many times people fell for this. Maybe Freya is a little joker too ;-) lol. Love that ribbing technique you guys. Thanks for sharing. I will try it out on my next project. :-)
Thank you for sharing that fun story Christina!
Thank you for all the tips. I am going to work on this ribbing and the Norwegian purl! Thanks!
Good luck Lynn
Va? Jag vill lära mig purl av dig Arne, så där har jag aldrig gjort! 💕💕☺
Hi, check out our how to knit tutorials on our site.
You're right Carlos , you are a lot of fun to watch . Thanks Arne , for teaching us the "Norwegian " way
You are welcome Lesia!
"It's only knitting" You're so right! Love it!!!👍
Thank you! Beautifully defined stitches.
You are welcome!
If you are knitting back and forth for this twisted rib, rather than in the round, do you knit the first row through the back of the knit stitches and then on the second row, (wrong side of the work) do you knit the knits as normal through the front loop, or do you twist those knit stitches too? I can't seem to keep the stitches twisted once I start the 2nd row. Loved meeting you both at the Christmas balls workshop in Stirling, Scotland, quite some years ago now.
I love you guys and I now mostly knit true Norwegian style. I still have problems with the purl stitch though. I just need to practice more and then I will have it down.
Thank you Arne and Carlos. What is your opinion on brioche knitting? Do you use the brioche knitting? Is it common in Norwegian knitting?
Can .I please ask you do do the Norwegian purl slowly. Please? I can’t get it it’s too fast. Thanks so much.
Thank you for your vidéo ! I'd really like to know your tips to have not step when you change color in the rib please ? Thanks!
Thank you for your video, twisted ribs are my favorite ribs for sweaters, mittens, socks. Such a great result!
Glad you liked it!
One more question, what is your favorite heel on a sock, and is there a way to improve the gusset as mine is messy with my k2tog is bumpy sometimes as is my ssk is also not always flat either. Any thoughts? Thank you
I’m trying to knit your sweater Carlos but I can’t see the chart very well in the book but I love it on you and thank you Arne for showing us the twisted knit stay safe x x
I’m going to use this on my next project 😊
Have fun Catherine.
If you are knitting flat how would you do it
The same.
Hei. This also work wonders on bought sides of your knitting, sawn together with madrass stitches 👍🧚♀️
Hello thank you for the knitting. Of this stich is the ourl st also tested please. I would love to try this. I so enjoy your vedio
agean it is briljand for soks
Yes!
I am trying to knit like you Arne , and I am so nervous that my stitches are so tight 😊the other day I was knitting ok and all of the autonomy brain went blank🤷🏿♀️ I tried to remember and I couldn't😨you say is like a dance, for you Arne ,I will keep on practicing, be cos I am no quitter, I will master this dance my friend , and when I do I will always remember you to taught me how to knit . 😍😘😉
Practice makes perfect, don't give up!
Just found you two a couple weeks ago. Love what you do for all of us.
Welcome to our channel Jackie!
Im a combination knitter. Does this mean I don't do anything different?
Ahhhh, thank you for this way to do pearl... I have been teaching myself to do continental knitting because I learnt the English way in my right hand, but I find holding the yarn in my left hand difficult to keep the tension. Pearl is horrible, but this is much easier.
Don't give up!
Now every time I hear her, i say, moose-moose
Impossible not too!
It could be that in countries which never see the cold weather which the Scandinavian countries have, that the wrapping of the yarn and holding the index finger up in the air, is due to ventilation of the fingers whereas in Norway, to keep your fingers more on the wool yarn, keeps your fingers warmer. If your hands are too cold, you can't knit as fast. But if you are in a country with daily rain and near 100% humidity when it is 80 degrees+, the less you touch the yarn, the less humid your fingers become. Trying to knit when your hands are sweating, you rather don't make as much progress.
Especially with sock knitting or any knitting with double points, knitting with the fingers doing the Roman salute, is distracting. It is enough with the double points sticking up. I have gotten fond of using a 10" circular, but use double points for ribbing, heels and toes. I have to say I love learning something new and how to use the tension you show. As picking up your yarn and winding it around your fingers is also difficult with double points when working a cuff.
But then I am half Norwegian. So that half that isn't, resisted learning but I have mastered it. I do find I can't do it on the 10" circular which is why I still use my DPNs. Got some Addi Flexi-Flips but find my technique with DPNs is better because I've been doing that for years.
Imagine being taught right from the getgo. My mother was an English knitter. Knitting is great, rehabilitated arthritic fingers when I got serious and changed my diet. I am now an avid vegan knitter. I did that most of all to keep my husband's cancer from coming back. We need to love one another in meaningful ways and if doctors don't have drugs to help (and all of them are in time toxic) what we can do with food, is worth trying.
It is all about life-long learning instead of trying not to learn.
Love your videos, so peaceful. I live in Central California so now when my dog barks, I might have a moose in my yard? Gosh, you are entertaining.
You might just have a moose!
Hi A&C my mother taught me that. She only knitted ribs with a twist saying it will shape better. Just like Arne. Don't know where she learnt it. My mother was born in Gothenburg:))) You two always makes me happy
Have a lovely week yourself Velma!
Arne, you should defend your Norwegian heritage and be proud of it. I love your bring it on tenacity. And I am looking forward to using the twisted knit ribbing. Is there anywhere it shouldn't be applied? For example neckline, hat, waistband, vest arm opening?
Thank you Veronica!
This may sound stressful and ridiculous but I sure wish you guys had a daily show.
This is the way I have always knitted cuffs. I didn't know that I was doing it the Norwegian way.
MAP California
😀
I love it when you talk about moose. I don't see them in Southern CA! Maybe in a zoo :-( Love the twisted knitted rib video! Thank you! Who in the world could be angry with you guys??? Love you!
Thank you Lucinda!
Thanks for showing how you tension your yarn Arne, will be trying this rib for socks. Carlos, don’t be too harsh on Arne. 🤪 Look, there’s a moose!
Always a moose.
Arne I like your bring it on attitude!!! Thanks for showing me a new way of doing cuffs I think our use it because I like them tight but stretchy.
Good!
Hi Arne and Carlos! Your videos are so calming, relaxing and funny! Thank youuu! Love you both! Btw, my creative goal for 2020 is knitting on double pointed needles (no succes till now...)
Good luck!
Arne, is it just about knitting in the ‘hind leg’ of the stitch? I ask because I had to learn a different way to purl, so I actually purl clock wise and it puts my leading leg at the back so my knit is done by going purl wise into the back (which is the leading leg) .. so I’m wondering if I knit regularly if it would create the twisted knit..I’m going to start the Vegard sweater the first of March and wondered how a twisted rib would look on it, so thought I’d pose my question..
Hi Ann, this is the way we do it with the Norwegian way. You should just try and see what happens. Good luck!
I agree with you! The twisted rib always looks so neat, tidy and the knit stitch is nicely defined. I've used it for mitten cuffs, sock cuffs and the brim of a hat, all with great success. Bring on the thumbs UP!!
👍
Hi Arne & Carlos! I have a question: Is it possible to use this technique if I do 2 purl and 2 twisted knit?
Give it a try!
Arne this is lovely but I want to ask something. You use 4 needles, why is that...sorry I'm very new knitting. Thank you. Love you two.
It is the way we knit, some use the magic loop method, we prefer this.
You are so right Arne! What is up with a finger in the air! I’m a Swedish knitter in Iowa. You taught me the wonderful way of purling, I love it. Thank you 🙏!
You are welcome!
Dear Arne & Carlos, really really thank you!!! Finally, I could understand.
Hello Arne en Carlos .
This is how i alwyas doo it .I learnd it from my Mother i am 62 now. Have fun i love it Petra from the nederlands Frisian part
Thank you for watching Petra.
Doing a twisted knit rib in the American style knitting in 1984 is what damaged my wrist and forced me to give up knitting. It was only by learning Portuguese style in 2017 was I able to start knitting again. It is such a pretty stitch but the thought of doing it again terrifies me.
Then you should probably stay away from it!
Ooooo. I like that twisted stitch. I am going to use that on the socks I am going to start knitting this afternoon. You two are the best. Thank you for this. Send since you were born in Norway are you familiar with Nalbinding? It is supposed to predate knitting. I was watching a video on it. Looks tedious. Have a wonderful week.
You are welcome and have fun knitting!
I always knitt through back leg, but stitch is never twisted 😭. Your purl is amazing 😲
Thank you Mil!
I thought I’d try this out on my new jumper. I’m not sure it worked! Because I’ve only just realised, I’m knitting back and forth so the twist on the knit st becomes a purl on the wrong side. I guess I should have twisted the purl st on the wrong side but I never!! 😠
Practice makes perfect Hazel.
I am wondering which cast-on method would work best for this rib? Flexible and bounce back?
We used the long tail cast on.
I have been needing this for many years; never knew. Any change to the recommendation to maybe move up 1 needle size when finished with rib?
No, just follow the pattern as normal.
Thank you Arnie and Carlos, glad Freya keeps you safe from the moose, love your videos!
She is a good guard dog!
I love the videos. Thank you for sharing and I shall try the purl and twisted knit rubbing... and Freya’s vigilante moose alert is adorable . Sending many blessings to you all 💫💫💫❣️
Good luck and have a lovely week!
ARNE & CARLOS thank you 🙏🏼
So doing the purl stitch that way is called the Norwegian purl, but not holding the yarn all wrapped around the fingers for the tension. I'm more concerned with doing the actual stitch than worrying about how someone tensions their yarn differently than I do.
Good, we all should knit the way we are comfortable with.
Thank you that was very clear , I'm going to try that on my next pair of mitts. It's always lovely to see you both laughing together ! Have a wonderful week !
You as well!
So the purl goes normal, not twisted? I was looking for twisted rib here in yt and found some knitters twist both the knit and purl st. And some others only twist knit st. I'll give it a try because it looks so neat and elastic.
Yes, just twist the knit stitch
Thx for doing the video tutorial but it’s so hard to see whats being done because there are 4 needles and then they are super small needles. It’s so easy to be confused or just can’t see. I love all your videos but this is the 2nd or 3rd tutorial I’ve watched where the it’s done on small sock needles.
Thank you for your feedback
Tusen takk for another useful tip. Our dog would like to come over and help Freya with the moose!
Yes, she should join her!
Thanks - super explanation for a newbie like me knitting my first jumper!
You are welcome!
I love you two, and I’m definitely going to try this with my next socks
Give it a go Pam!
Hello good evening from a very stormy Germany😯. Your tipp is as ever very helpful. I tried it in the minute. And what a wonder: the purl stitches became much more stronger because the way of the yarn is not as long as with the other method with putting yarn in front! SUPER!!! I will do it the Norwegian way now! Thank you very much, all the best for you and the people you love. Heartly Gitta from Germany🍀😇😇🍀🌈
Hi Gitta, we are experiencing a storm here in Norway as well! We hope you are safe.
@@ARNECARLOS Thank you very much for your good wishes💟 yes it is horrable at some places but fortunately in our area its calm..til now... I wish you all a lucky wonderful time with always creative work! And KNITTING is a therapie for the soul. I think I will do it even when I'm "invisibly"(they call it death) and together with my husband-darling😇😇💗. But in the meantime I will do my very best here, beeing happy and looking at all the wonderful things! Its all experience for "later"!
Sorry for my story but its a good feeling to write this because you both are so nice people. Heartly from stormy Germany GittaLloreley🍀😇😇🍀🌈🌞
Bittersweet story: my mom taught all three of her girls to knit as young as 5. Her knitting was exquisite. Fast forward three decades and my excellent knitter sister got a job in a yarn shop and was told she was knitting incorrectly. She re-learned and showed me. We were bewildered. Fast forward two decades and I find ‘Eastern European’ knitting online. It’s the way my mom knitted! She was correct, just different: knit in the back, purl wrapping the stitch clockwise. So when I see this renewed interest in twisted stitch, it feels so affirming.😊 and you are correct it makes the knit stitch Pop! My mom was taught knitting by an Eastern European woman!
That was a lovely story, thank you for sharing Maureen!
ARNE & CARLOS correction though: purl wrapping clockwise, which untwists the stitch
Thanks so much for this video. I love making this rib. I thought it funny that I learned to knit continental through UA-cam. I am very uncomfortable with my index finger in the air. Turns out that I hold my yarn and scoop up using the Norwegian style of knitting. Yes!!
Thank you for this tutorial! I needed some help making my rib knit a bit tighter.
You are welcome!
I'm just learning to knit and I favour the Norwegian style of knitting, I find it easier. I never knew why 5 needles are sold together but after watching you, now I know why. Ty for showing this ribbing technique.
I am teaching myself how to knit the Norwegian way..thx Arne..thats a great rib stitch too..I have to do this because I am Norwegian and I can teach my granddaughter. I am learning new things everyday from your channel. ❤👍🤗🐾
Perfect. This is exactly what I needed. I just finished knitting a pair of ankle warmers to keep my ankles warm in the winter. I like the end result (I knitted cabled ropes for the first time), but am not completely happy with the ribbed edge. So I'll try the twisted knit stitch in my next pair of ankle warmers (in a different color of course). Thank you!
Thank you! I just learned how to knit and purl through the back loop when closing yarn overs, so this was perfect! This showed me how to apply it to ribbing. Love you both and love your energy !
Thank you for watching Lynn!
Hello Arne and Carlos. I have been binge watching your videos and love your interaction with each other. ** Arne I live only 45 minutes from Dollywood so I hope you get to come visit there soon. I wouldn't travel from Norway to see it but if you are nearby, it is an experience.
Wow, you are lucky. How many times have you been there?
@@ARNECARLOS Too many to count :-) You should come do a retreat there. It is a very touristy town where lots of area groups hold their conventions.
Why not purl through the back loop too?
Please can you do a video on a professional knitted buttonhole, thank you
Hi Sheila, we have done video on how to knit a buttonhole. Check it out ua-cam.com/video/DmMVqVf5nA8/v-deo.html
Are going to try this in my next project, Takk gutter 👍🏽😊
Good luck!
Thanks for showing this technique, great for socks.
👍
Arne so funny love his hummer and a wonderful week💛💛
Have a wonderful week yourself.
I knit continental combined where I always make my knit stitch into the back of the stitches. I just recently realized that most people knit into the front of the stitch and I have been practicing that. When I knit in the round using my normal technique my ribbing and the stockinette all lean like a barber pole. I thought that was happening because I knitted into the back of a stitch. Now I’m seeing you do the twisted knit (which is how I knit) and purl and your stitches are not leaning! Is your purl stitch somehow making it’s so the material is not leaning? I’m so confused. 🥴
We knit the Norwegian way where you knit in the front of the stitch. We have several tutorials on our way of knitting on our channel site and here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/uQcPvZAEJ3w/v-deo.html
Thank you for your reply. I’m specifically curious as to the tutorial you did today with the twisted rib stitch. When I do the exact same stitch my work ends up leaning and Arne’s work is perfectly upright. It’s probably because I keep my finger up in the air with the yarn wrapped around it! 😊. Love your videos and I’m learning so much ❤️.
I tried... the result is perfect, like a machine work. Thank you very much !
Thanks again for sharing! It is always great to see you two, you are both such lovely people. Freya is just so gorgeous & indeed protective 😳. 😍
I tried this rib on a sock. I really like it! Thanks. 😊😀😊
You are welcome Catherine
Oh! So easy and yet it makes such a big difference.
Yes, it really does!
Hoe doe je dan de opzet steken ?? Zijn die dan niet strak ?
Thank you. Always glad to learn a new technique
You are welcome!
thanks! this purl method looks difficult, but i tried it and it is so much easier to do!
You are welcome!
Thankyou both for this vidio I'm about to start some mittens an I'm going to use this technique 👍not fingers !!
Good luck!
@@ARNECARLOS thankyou
Is every round the same or are there alternating knit rounds???
Hi Sandra, in our website you can find more info in the blog section.
