Me and my gf just let this video play in the background while we work from home. We both agreed your voice and style is very comforting, and peaceful!!
I would like to thank you for showing your way of sketching. I bought the Boox Nova Air as a new e-book reader and for making some work notes. But I had the most fun with drawing over screenshots of comics. It is a real stress reliever for me and drawing on layers with undo/redo is a very futuristic feeling. I wouldn't have tried it without you showing it. Thanks.
Hey! I'm very interested in this workflow but on the remarkable 2 I'm waiting for (batch 8). However, I'm a bit worried about the lack of features to do so, such as screenshot capture, jpg/png support or custom templates for the bg. Can anybody tell me if this doodling experience would be similar on the remarkable 2? Thanks!!
@@_DaniMateD_ I don't know much about this exact workflow, but for sketching on the remarkable, I can say I'm still amazed after a week. The pencil tool is really amazing for creating paper like sketches, even charcoal like if you want. I kept hearing (on youtube) about the lack of features on the remarkable, like primitive shapes support (circle, square), but I've started thinking differently about it. The remarkable is more like enhanced paper than a computer where everything is created pixel perfect (They've been preaching this for a while, but only just now it sinks in). I think you get enough tools to start creating and thinking, but you have to work your way up by building your skills to make most of it. I've just started sketchnoting on it to see if it improves the way I think or remember things. I really hope the remarkable team never gives up on their guiding principles in order to get more features in. Enjoy your tablet!
Voya, you have raised the bar once again. I was not sure what to expect when I saw the notification that you posted this video, but I can honestly say that I didn't think that it was going to impact me as much as it has. One of the things that I really wanted to do with my Note Air was this just about this exactly. I don't have much drawing talent, but I love shading, and inking and I had this exact use case in mind when I was justifying the investment on this device, but I've kind of been hesitating with it as I didn't want to find out that I was going to be disappointed in the experience (as I have been with other devices). Thank you, you've moved me to inspiration, and also a big thank you for the screenshot shortcut :)
And another great reason to get a Boox. Thank you for showing this. I can see many lost hours doing this kind of thing. Looks like a great way to learn how to draw.
Thank you for this great video. I learned a lot. I now am going to search for nice pictures that i can use on the internet. I'm nog quite a drawer, but I like to try this.
Thank you Voja! You helped me to choose for note air favor. It was very difficult, for i never has drown digital yet. You enthusiasm helped me! Have seen several time your review. Thanks agan!
This is what I've been looking for! I've been watching reviews about note air and wondering if I could draw on it since it is note air not sketch air. But… you did draw on it and it seems like you had fun.
I'm so grateful for this video Voja. This made me sign up to your Patreon. One little thing - it took me absolutely ages to work out pinch to zoom, I didn't realise it's a change to the general settings to enable it! Love it. I followed up my first sketch attempt by using the Neobrowser to download a second image and do another. Very cool.
Thank you very much! I am in the process of forming and starting a big series of videos which will be "The Big Boox Guide", and in there i will try to cover all of these tips and tricks, so that users can learn and become comfortable with the platform more quickly and easily :)
Wow, you make it look so easy... :) I guess there would be a lot more manual steps involved to do this on the reMarkable. (such as capturing the source image on a desktop computer, then manually add it to the remarkable templates, etc, etc, and finally a manual process to override the device's sleep screen) By the way, I really like the background music you use in your videos.
Hey, new to Boox (Note Air 2) and I'm confused by the scalings. Basically I want my drawing to export in 4K res which the 2x2 does but when you close out and reopen the drawing goes to the top corner of the screen and I about lost it trying to stretch it back out. I know this is vector too, so I'm not sure if I'm asking you dumb questions, but could you help explain that please? The broken English user manual did not help me with that. Also questions on the styluses. I have the one that came in the box and the pen pro with the felt nibs that wear down. Are there options for pressure sensitive nibs that are plastic and won't wear down? Thanks for the help....I did a video (not as good as yours) if you want to see the UI I have on mine.
Voja, great how to video. I can see myself using these techniques to trace photo outlines for some of my hobbies. I received the very same stylus today. I have the stock screen protector on my NoteAir. I noticed a peculiar effect on the screen protector while using this stylus with its original nib. I've been practicing writing, using different pen and brush combinations to see the effects. I would then erase the entire layer and write some more scribbles. The effect I noticed is that there are very faint latent scribbles on the screen protector. You have to hold the Air at an acute angle to see the scribbles with sideways glare. You don't notice it from a normal viewing angle with writing on the e-ink itself. But when the e-ink is erased, you can actually read the latent scribbles. The screen protector wipes clean with a micro fiber cloth. I'm curious if any one else has seen similar stuff on their devices.
Well the screen protector is soft and slow elastic. Meaning, it absorbs your pressure and then relaxes over time, so that will remain for a bit, or maybe the brand new nib tip is leaving small particles on the rough surface, since it has a very fine tip. Those would be my first two guesses as to what you're describing, or a combination of the two :)
Additional info: I have replaced the original Samsung S nib with the rM black nib. I don't get the latent Scribbles with the rM nib. Perhaps it's a combination of nib shape and material that causes latent scribbles on the screen protector. Plus I seem get more pressure sensitivity with the rM nib.
Great video and thank you for all the note air videos. I ordered mine the other day. Have you settled on what is the best pen to use with Note Air? Best with the protector and best without? I've also read that some pens leave scratches on the Mobius screen. I don't know if you've experienced this. Again, thank you! You're the best.
Would still like to see a brush test for each available brush and see how jagged the lines are. Its difficult to tell with this example since the aim was to retain the scratchy loose style altogether. I too love the minimalist styles of Watterson but wonder how smooth and accurate the stylus can be on this device. Also I did not see a lot of line variation. I really would want to see how the pressure sensitivity is.
I just tried this on the Lumi and think if you draw quick strokes and use a different pen it can look really smooth and nice :) pressure sensitivity feels pretty intuitive after some practice
What a great review! I have one question, can you save and export the different layers with transparency? For example, I'd like to use this tablet as a sketchpad, and then upload just the lines with a transparent background to a PC editor for finetuning. Is that possible?
Hi Voya. This looks like a great process. Do you think that the Note Air will be getting a version with a colour screen in 2021? Will the same process be possible on one of the colour e inks screens?
Even if it does, if it's using the same approach as the Kaleido screen is using in the Poke 2 Color and PocketBook Color, I'm not going to be interested, because that is an incredibly primitive and limiting technology with sub-par results. You can see a detailed explanation of that on my Poke 2 Color review video.
Great video, did you try the samsung nib on the note air without screen protector ? , the reason I am asking is because I have applied paperlike screen protector on my note air. and i found that this samsung pen with its original nib gives me the best writing experience (rM nibs and HP felt nibs are too tough on paperlike screen protectors). So i wonder how does the samsung nibs feel without the screen protector
I completely agree. For me HP nibs without a screen protector are amazing, with it are too rough. The original black nib is great with the screen protector, without it, a little too rubbery. A bit weird, good, but a bit weird.
@@MyDeepGuide Really like the feeling of original samsung nibs on paperlike screen protector. however, I just found out that samsung does not make replacement nibs/tips for that pen. so once the nibs wear down i need to find 3rd party nibs which is very weird. I will try the original BOOX nibs (the ones for Max Lumi) and hope that they feel good on paperlike screen protector and not as rough as rM and HP nibs feels.
Hello Voja, I noticed that you hit refresh a lot of the times while Sketching when you were filling the background, is it like that on other devices too? I know there is some ghosting with e-ink displays, but mainly if you erase something to see it as ghosting behind, but not what I see in the video where part of the sketch was not in the correct color until you refresh the screen.
When painting over a large surface, on any e-ink device, you have to force refresh, especially when using multiple layers and/or shades of gray. That's how the technology works.
Because it is an Android 10 device, it would be interesting to have Adobe illustrator draw working on the Boox Air .... or Autodesk Sketchbook Android Anime !! Something that could be complementary to the one already present on Note Air? Non? Thank you very much Voja!!!
@@MyDeepGuideI've switched off 5G at home completely. Seems it was more my fault and missing patients. Actually my repeater has/shows the same netname and maybe caused some problems. Hi Voya I love your videos, I have a question I just got my Remarkable and love it but for writing and doing some light sketching would you stay with the Remarkable 2 or return it for the Note Air? Thanks in advance oh and why?
It's a personal preference between these two. I would and will, personally, stick with Note Air, even though I am missing the more sophisticated brushes from the reMarkable, added functionality and flexibility, even for simple Note-Taking and drawing is far better on the Note Air. I am not returning my reMarkable 2 only because I have this UA-cam channel and want to be able to bring you update videos on the rM2 as it evolves and develops. However, since I've gotten my Note Air, rM2 is shelved. If the limitations and problems that haven't been addressed and the aliased end results on the rM2 aren't affecting your use case scenario, then enjoy it, since the limited set of things it can do, it does well. But for me, as I said, everything i attempt to use it for, i hit upon a limitation wall, or disfunctionality. And to top it all off, their attitude is "that's not a problem, we'll see if can be bothered to do something with it". No thanks. Not what I am expecting for my money.
Hi Voja. Thanks a lot for these funny and instructional videos. I have a quick question. What is the onscreen keyboard you are using? The default keyboard on Note Air is horrible and I didn’t like the gboard.
Great video!! Really relaxing. I have a little question If you had to choose between onyx boox air and onyx boox note 3, which one would you choose? And also does the onyx boox air stylus have a button to switch to an eraser? I heard that it doesn't have one.
Note 3 review is coming this Thursday and i answer that question there. As for the button, no, the new stylus that comes with the Note Air doesn't have a button or an eraser.
Waiting for getting my hands on these and already became more desperate after watching your videos (including all reviews). Btw can you please share which pen are you using here? Doesn't seem like the pen comes with Note air
Another question, though not sure if it sounds awkward or not. Can you copy your writing or drawing from one notebook to another totally different one, or in any other file like pdf? I saw that stuff done by someone on Remarkable 2
Sadly no real vectorized export on this tablet.. All exported data, even (PDF or SVG !) from it are always rasterized , basically embedded PNG's - or has anything changed since last week I ditched it in frustration ?
Handwritten notes in documents are always vectorized, notebooks if they are sent as PDFs from the push.boox service are vectorized, directly from the device are rasterized. So yeah, ditched it too early ;)
@@MyDeepGuide OK I admit I was ignorant not knowing that I could log in online and have my notes and drawings managed from there however, that is because I really dislike the idea of being tied to cloud in order to access my OWN FILES> So the problem stands - yes, I can login and download those vectorized pdfs, but why they force me to it, instead exporting a true vectorized PDF from the device (instead just embedding a bitmap in it ) ? I know this isn't your fault of course , but what I mean it just works as a deterrent for all people who work with sensitive data..
@@MyDeepGuide I did try their push.boox service and downloaded some sample illustrations , sadly the quality is atrocious , what they basically give you is a vectorized BItMAP, where whole image is built up from single squares equivalent to pixels. There are no strokes , or any other shapes , everything is built from squares which just scale up and down depends on zoom. You cannot use this as a serious vectorized format as resizing will only give you the same pixelated image.
Thank you for video. I have bought my Onyx Boox Note 3 due to positive reviews on this channel. 50 % on reason for extra payment of expensive eink multiuse devive is, that I can annotate my docus, and.. Draw and sketch! How big is my disappointment, that, I can use only ONE(!) application for drawing! That, which one is already installed (and this is only simply drawing app with weak functions, not like ibis paint, or clip studio paint) . I tried different my favorite apps, practically, no one can be used, even for simple drawings! I tried boox optimalization, max power, nothing helped.. I tried Autodesk Sketcher, Ibis Paint, Squid (organizer), INK credible PRO, Clip studio paint.. All these sw works, BUT has very long response, lag.. Seconds? This could be quite important info for possible buyers.. If you have another experience, let us know, thanks.. (I have not found any solution, advice on original Onyx Boox pages)
Cool! I actually do take screenshots of comic pages I like, but rather than drawing over them, I set the entire page as a screensaver. If you'd like to try art tutorials from artists and illustrators I like, you could reply here, and I could point you in the right direction, but you may not like the same art styles I like.
You really poorly explain which pen nib you are using. I guess the nib of *some* older version of the boox note, but not the air? And put it into the Samsung 6 lite? Why don't you write it down somewhere, in the description or something. Isn't that like fking important information???? I only heard some vague shit. Be clear
@@MyDeepGuide yeah well people use the internet as if it's pieces of random information. Having this info spread over your channel isn't helpful in that regard
@@MyDeepGuide with pleasure. In description: "Pen is the Samsung S6 Lite, with original Boox nib of [insert model] E-reader. Glad you enjoyed my little insightful description of wisdom. Please subscribe."
Have you actually watched the video before criticizing? It is literally the very first thing I say @00:34. I honestly don't think even you understand what you are complaining about. I precisely said which pen it is, and as for the nibs, well there are only 2 types in existence, the standard one and the one for the Note Air. If I specifically say "it's not the new nib, it's the standard one" and you take into consideration that we are talking about Note Air which at the time introduced the new pen and the new nib, that doesn't really leave much room for speculation or uncertainty does it? If all you can choose from is A or B, and I say it's not A it's B, how is that not precise information?

@@MyDeepGuide OK I admit I was ignorant not knowing that I could log in online and have my notes and drawings managed from there however, that is because I really dislike the idea of being tied to cloud in order to access my OWN FILES> So the problem stands - yes, I can login and download those vectorized pdfs, but why they force me to it, instead exporting a true vectorized PDF from the device (instead just embedding a bitmap in it ) ? I know this isn't your fault of course , but what I mean it just works as a deterrent for all people who work with sensitive data..
Also, it doesn't export SVG, it exports PNG format, which are bitmaps, not vectors, so naturally, they will be rasterized.
Have you changed your keyboard? Which one are you using?
Same Sandberg as before :) or do you mean my desktop keyboard?
Order my note 3 today.
Nice idea! Love the hairline
can you use these as wacom tablets?
Nope.
what is the sketch app ?
I was using the default Notes on Boox.
Does that Samsung pen work on remarkable? I really want to buy a new pen for RM1.
Yes it does, I just tried it :)
really nice- just one thing, nova 2 dont have layers :(
edit: nvm update time :D a good way to find out!
I wish we had layer opacity in the notes app😔
Pretty sure it will be possible after the next major update ^^
Your comments are like Bob Ross 2.0 🙈👍

Be clear
Maybe because I have an entirely dedicated video to it, and if you just type "pen" or "nib" when searching my channel you'd find it?
@@MyDeepGuide yeah well people use the internet as if it's pieces of random information. Having this info spread over your channel isn't helpful in that regard
Please do enlighten us all with your wisdom :)
@@MyDeepGuide with pleasure. In description:
"Pen is the Samsung S6 Lite, with original Boox nib of [insert model] E-reader.
