When Rocky said “time beat him” he means that Apollo aged and was past his prime. He was no longer as good as he used to be which is why Rocky was able to beat him.
I'll defend the "Rocky getting cancer" plotline, even if it's cliche'. Not only is it meant to be a parallel to Donnie's fights and struggles, and not only does it lead to a heartbreaking scene when Rocky tells Donnie his fears: But you have this guy who built a legend based on his physical prowess and oushing through any incermountable odds, and now that body is turning on him. And he's lost everyone he loves already, this is a fight he doesn't have the strength to face. While a lot of films use the mentor figure having cancer trope to create pathos, the film already did with the history behind character and his connection to Donnie. So Cancer seems like a great way to have Rocky fight an enemy he can't train for and beat like all the others. It's a great cresendo to his story. EDIT: I can understand the argument in concept to have used a less narratively commonly used disease. But truthfully, there isn't anything else that the treatment can lead to a "cure" while also being an intense battle itself. I really enjoyed this seventh installment/quasi-reboot of a nearly 40-year-old franchise from late 2015, where the original stars pass their legacy on to a new generation, in a familiar underdog story that uses most of the same plot points as the first film. Wait, are we talking about Creed or The Force Awakens?

That’s because it’s super cliched and just a rehash of Rocky. It’s still great but I think most people already consider Rocky a classic and it’s better than Creed was.
@@certifiedbootygoon I don't know why an old story redone well is a problem for everyone. Especially when it's a soft reboot of the film series that popularized that plot line; obviously it'll be a rehash from a different perspective, that's the point!
@@certifiedbootygoon It's not a competition. You're the only one who's comparing the two. The Rocky and Creed movies are on the same team man, same team. Just let people enjoy it for what it is.
Something I would remove a sin for would be the way they finally used the rocky score when Creed realises he can do it. Thought it was great timing and I think the rocky score make the movies for me
After the movie, Michael B Jordan wanted to fight Mike Tyson. Luckily everybody told him he was crazy. Dude wouldn't have lasted two rounds in the ring, even as old as Mike is.
Agreed. When I first heard the idea, I rolled my eyes at the concept. When I heard Ryan Coogler was on board, I cautiously bought in. After I saw the movie, I was blown away.
@1:40 you gotta know he's talking about Apollo's physique. Apollo was the perfect fighter, the Muhammad Ali of the Rocky world, but by the time he was fighting the likes of Rocky and Drago, he was pushing it. Everyone around him, even Rocky told him not to take the Drago fight because he was way past his prime, but Creed was a fighter at heart, and he couldn't let the chance to fight again pass him by. An in the case of his second fight against Rocky, Creed outmatched him in every way, but again he was past his prime. It's Rocky basically saying "If I fought Creed at the highlight of his career, I would've lost".
I never believed when Rocky said Apollo won that word 'fight'. He was just keeping a dead man's legacy intact for his son. Thus, we still don't know who won. Balboa is just being the humble guy we know an love.
That new one is a pure Dumpster Fire, and should be seen in theatres, just to get the full experience. It’s. Robin “the Hood”, meets Batman Begins, meets a movie where the Middle Ages and now happen at the same time. All while trying to be as edgy as possible, for the edgelord 12-14yr olds, who aren’t allowed by their parents to go see R-rated films.
Making a comeback after a serious injury is actually quite common in boxing/mma and is not just movie magic. A fight can change from one punch even after the other person has landed 40
Love your face but for once I have to disagree with every single sin. I mean, all of them. For starters, no one will train Creed because he's the son of privilege and everyone knows he's financially set without boxing, and there is no reason for him fighting. Especially since his dad, a legend, died in the ring. Also, it was funny and accurate to show that anxiety and nerves can make you gassy or even have to suddenly take a shit. I laughed out loud at that AND IT"S NEVER BEEN IN A ROCKY MOVIE BEFORE!. As for Apollo being mentioned as perhaps the greatest fighter of all time...Well that's the Rocky alternate universe conundrum. Apollo is essentially a stand-in for Muhammad Ali. However, the first Rocky movie has a cameo by Joe Frazier, a man who's reputation was built (largely) on his fights with Muhammad Ali. Apollo Creed was undefeated, and no one had ever gone the distance with him plus he was active during the years that Ali, Frazier, Norton, Foreman were active. None of those super fights would have taken place, Hence, Joe Frazier isn't in the Rocky universe, and if he was he was no legend. Drove me just as nuts when Tyson made a cameo in Rocky Balboa. I guess Tyson could have existed in this timeline, but compared to Clubber Lang he's not nearly the legend he (briefly) was. Basically since Apollo had KO'd everyone by 1976 when he fought Rocky, it meant there was an alternative timeline where yes, Apollo is the greatest fighter ever (undefeated, all by KO? c'mon) and most other real fighters that came after don't exist or shouldn't exist. I am curious how Adonis steps up in weight to heavy in Creed 2. He nearly got his ass handed to him by light heavyweight fighters. It can happen, but I hope it's plausible how Drago Jr. doesn't destroy him in the first round.
no one knew who creed was, he was under his own mothers name johnson..no one knew he was actually creed's son till he had his first real fight with the light weight boxer....I didnt understand either why that guy was being so hard on him and not bothering to train him at all. Must of been some info we just didnt get to see/hear and they left it up in the air
@@Ir0nMaidan I may be wrong, but I think people knew back in LA, which is how Sporino's trainer found it. He had some connections back there and he called them, and they told him he was Apollo's son, and then he leaked it to the press.
Adonis' opponent at the end of Creed fought at heavy weight and cruiser in real life and he is probably at heavy weight during the movie. Most of the guys he fought in the movie walk around at 185+ and at the time of filming were not active or training for a fight so there is no reason to expect them to be at least 180 in the movie.
A few things you said that should be cleared up and should not be "sins." 1. Rocky saying Time beat Apollo is not confusing. Apollo was an older boxer by the time he and Rocky fought; he retired after their second fight. Then he fought Drago after years out of the ring. 2. The stats are not character development. They are stats that, I suppose, Donnie knows. He's a boxing aficionado so it makes sense he would know people's records if they are notable and realize how dangerous they are. 3. The poster looks almost exactly like her. Get your fucking eyes checked. 4. most old people don't know how new tech works. That isn't a cliche. 5. Apollo Creed is Ali though. Seriously, he is a big showboat with an impossibly cool name that specializes in footwork and outboxing. He even teaches Rocky the rope-a-dope, one of Ali's signature moves. 6. What do you mean by more to Boxing than those things. They look at the opponent's previous fights to see how he fights. Then they train to keep in shape, cut weight, improve abilities, spar to implement a game plan and tighten up weaknesses and improve strengths. Which we saw. The only thing missing is bag work and shadowboxing and maybe some weightlifting (which is not recommended). One shot of them looking at a fight is all that is needed, it is implied they are studying other fights...you fucking dingus. 7. Having sex before a match is a myth that many fighters and athletes believe will inhibit their performance. Rocky is old school so... 8. Conlon isn't a villain though. Fighters don't have to hate each other to fight each other. Yes, we want Donnie to win because we spent the majority of the movie with him. Just like we wanted Rocky to win against Apollo in the first movie. They didn't hate each other either. 9. So you recognize that Apollo would be like 67. Donnie is in his late 20s or early 30s meaning Apollo had him when he was in his mid to late 30s...just before retirement. And Conlon's insult isn't weird. He's saying that Donnie isn't Apollo, one of the most famous boxers in the world that could offer him a challenge instead of this up and coming kid with his last name. 10. Reminder, Donnie has one official win in the professional boxing world. So yeah, them saying they are surprised he made it that long is necessary. 11. It wasn't about winning. It was about making a statement. And again, Rocky lost his first match against Apollo.
Salem Wilfong I agree with some of your points, especially the old people not understanding modern tech stuff. You should have seen my dad (71 years old) when I introduced him to the Marco Polo app. I got about 15 messages from the top half of his head asking “Is this working? Hello?” 🤣
#7 When I was training for a fight my trainers would not even let me have a gf and if I did they would limit my time with her. These were two Irish guys in their early/mid 30's. When cinema brought this up I instantly remembered my old training days.
I agree with you, it seems to me they're sinning for the sake of it. Also a couple of other things, is it really necessary to sin just because it gives the place names in full, that's just clutching at straws in my opinion. They missed the point of when Little Duke refused to train Adonis, he didn't want what happened to Apollo to happen to him, it shows he cared.
4:53 That part of the movie caught me off-guard and made me chuckle. There was also a part earlier in the movie when Mary-Anne said that she had to wipe Apollo's ass when his hands didn't work, lol. xD
That unbroken fight scene deserved 10 sins removed at least. It was majestic from beginning to end, made even more special since these types of movies rarely do this. Just amazing.
Admittedly, it took me awhile to understand Adonis’ anger behind the “baby creed” comment as well as Bianca’s reaction, but I don’t think it’s deserving of a sin. If you look back to their previous convo about using the name and piling Rocky’s diagnosis on top of it, you have the perfect mix for this result and how she reacted. Not manufactured
Donnie definitely should have beat Pretty Ricky Conlan in this fight. They were never gonna have a rematch like Rocky & Apollo and him winning would have made him undefeated in the second movie.
When Apollo went down in Rocky II it was the result of getting punched. Rocky Merly fell. Which is ruled a slip in boxing. He could have taken a nap at that point and still won the fight.
@@johnrife7134 Correct, which is why you will see the ref look over to the side of the ring for the current counter so he can continue where the judge(not sure what their official title is) left off. Which is why you will see them start past 1.
You're missing one sin at the end. It should have been a unanimous decision victory for conlan and not a split decision. I mean it was clear the fight was very one sided for the most part. The commentators even say "creed is no match for conlan".
True, but how many times in reality there have been decisions when it seems one judge was watching a different fight to everyone else? I agree with what your saying but it does happen in real life.
You'd think so, but I remember watching the boxing match between Manny Pacquiao & Timothy Bradley years ago, we all thought it was a landslide victory for Pacquiao but the judges awarded it to Bradley. It's rare but it does happen in boxing.
What happened to Apollo & Maryanne Creed’s two older children credited as “unarmed son” and “unnamed daughter” in ‘Rocky II’? By 1998, the two older Creed children would have been in their early late 20s/early 30s, and they likely would have moved out of Maryanne’s house several years earlier. So, in 1998 “empty nester” Maryanne Creed (who’s known about the existence of Adonis Johnson for umpteen years) decides to adopt Adonis Johnson. Throughout the Creed household we see no photos of the older Creed children, and there is no reference to their existence whatsoever. Immediately after Apollo was “killed in the ring” you’d think that Maryanne and her two children would be “closer than ever”, so it stands to reason that they’d still be in their widowed mother’s life long after that tragic day in 1985. Yet, they’re ostensibly “written out” of both Creed movies.
0:40 - Yes. Everything Adonis did in boxing up to that point was entirely on his own. The needed to show this and the entire scene from taping his own glove to the ring walk was meant to do just that and did it wonderfully.
How did he even know about that fight , Apollo died before he was born, and he never met Rocky before, and I’m sure they never told the media or anything, so I don’t know how he even knew about the fight
Dude, don't ever dismiss Rocky Ramblings. They are some of the best speeches in film history, & I know even you agree about the one from the self titled Rocky Balboa film. Yeah, you know the one. They are usually all great life lessons. They deserves a sin off, not a sin on.
Jim B. That’s because Black Panther was Marvel Presents: Black Panther: a mostly Ryan Coogler film. No director is allowed to be totally themselves making an MCU movie.
Black Panther didn’t have any of the unique characteristics of a Coogler film. Everything that makes him special as a director is stripped away until you just have the basics. Bare bones cinematography with 0 interesting shots.

Good example of how you can do the same formula and have it still be good. There's a lot to be said for technical expertise and good direction.
Something I would remove a sin for would be the way they finally used the rocky score when Creed realises he can do it. Thought it was great timing and I think the rocky score make the movies for me

"Those fucking lashes look like a fucking zipper track for his eyelids"
I died upon impact. God, that was hilarious.

FINALLY SOMEONE AGREES
I’m guessing on Thursday they’re gonna sin a Robin Hood movie
That new one is a pure Dumpster Fire, and should be seen in theatres, just to get the full experience.
It’s. Robin “the Hood”, meets Batman Begins, meets a movie where the Middle Ages and now happen at the same time.
All while trying to be as edgy as possible, for the edgelord 12-14yr olds, who aren’t allowed by their parents to go see R-rated films.

5min mark , i cannot explain how accurate that representation of nervs before a fight is
I could, it's almost like you have no control, everything feels slower, but the punches still come 100 miles a second.
Making a comeback after a serious injury is actually quite common in boxing/mma and is not just movie magic. A fight can change from one punch even after the other person has landed 40
I like the honesty.... it IS a really good movie, so they really had to look to try and find some sins.
12:26 "his name? Was JOHN CENA!!!!"
Missed opportunity
Tony S
Good comment.
no one knew who creed was, he was under his own mothers name johnson..no one knew he was actually creed's son till he had his first real fight with the light weight boxer....I didnt understand either why that guy was being so hard on him and not bothering to train him at all. Must of been some info we just didnt get to see/hear and they left it up in the air
They do the same shit with dead rappers kids. Ex: Wu Tang & Chris
A few things you said that should be cleared up and should not be "sins."
Hello?” 🤣
BoukenBlack it’s another version of Snapchat but I don’t think you can text.

0:54 That punch didn't even touch rocky yet he went back lmaoo

It was definitely supposed to hit, the movie was a long time ago and that looked decent back then.

That unbroken fight scene deserved 10 sins removed at least. It was majestic from beginning to end, made even more special since these types of movies rarely do this. Just amazing.
Never seen 10 sins removed before, and he could have added 20 sins for all the boxing movie cliches he missed.
@@Paulafan5 in lego movie they removed 20. Not saying the movie is perfect but that scene was amazingly directed.
Love how much he clearly loves Ryan Coogler. He deserves it
Admittedly, it took me awhile to understand Adonis’ anger behind the “baby creed” comment as well as Bianca’s reaction, but I don’t think it’s deserving of a sin.
Adonis harps on about making it on his own yet felt the need to seek Rocky out to train him. Makes sense.
When Apollo went down in Rocky II it was the result of getting punched. Rocky Merly fell. Which is ruled a slip in boxing. He could have taken a nap at that point and still won the fight.

Please do "Over The Top". But don't you dare sin Kenny Loggins! :D
I really did enjoy this movie and it's sequel...BUT no movie is without sin. You do God's work, @cinemasins 👌☺️
0:40 - Yes. Everything Adonis did in boxing up to that point was entirely on his own. The needed to show this and the entire scene from taping his own glove to the ring walk was meant to do just that and did it wonderfully.
Maybe Rocky was lying when he told Adonis that Apollo won the fight at the end of Rocky 3.
