@@MatthewMe so if you compared it to Creed which would you say is the better boxing movie? I personally lean towards Raging Bull just because of De Niro.
@@lukepier9736 As a boxing movie, Raging Bull is perhaps more accurate and honest about the fate of many boxers. It's a particular type of character study, and De Niro puts on a great show. Overall, I prefer Creed. But I don't fault anyone for preferring Raging Bull or arguing it belongs higher. Similar arguments are made for Rocky (1 and 2).
Rocky Balboa & Creed are both great movies. Stallone has gotten better with age & Jordan is incredible. Watching this makes me want to watch those two movies again.
I'm surprised you didn't give wins to Conlan's amazing entrance, or even more for the Leo Sporino fight. The way the camera was right up in the action making you feel a part of it, and I've never noticed stereo sound that clear before, with every sound source clearly coming from an appropriate depth and relative position to the camera/Adonis' head.
You skipped one of my favourite bits. Adonis talking to Rocky for the first time in the restaurant about personal details of Apollo. Rocky: How do you know all this? Donnie: How do you think? The look on Rocky's face when he realises who he's talking to... chills man.
This movie brought me to tears SEVERAL times. Sly is so massively underrated an actor and writer, it's borderline criminal. I honestly would pay to see you do everything great about every single Rocky movie, because every single one of them (yes, even Rocky V) have something wonderful to talk about.
One thing that's amazing about Creed is that it respects what came before it as a spinoff sequel. Continuing a legacy name out of respect rather than tearing down what came before it to prop up what's new. I gotta revisit these movies and then see 3.
3:39 Maybe so, but it took them forever to build a statue of the real life Rocky, Joe Frazier. (I know Chuck Wepner was the inspiration Sylvester Stallone used to write Rocky but hear me out on this) Joe's from Philly, he worked in a slaughterhouse so he trained by actually punching meat, and he use to run the steps at the museum. He beat Muhammad Ali (The inspiration for Apollo Creed,) and he was known for having the most heart in the ring. Even when George Foreman knocked him down several times, he kept getting up. He's Rocky.
19:35 As an adopted kid, with great parents, that make moment make me cry every time and makes the movie for me. Even with them, due to a bunch of internal and personal stuff, it feels like that sometime. I relate to characters like Peter Parker and Clark Kent for similar reasons, but hearing this felt different, huge, and needed. Whatever Creed 3 holds, this will still probably wind up feeling like the best in the series, the whole series, for me
IT'S ABOUT DAMN TIME!!! I wrote a whole thesis on my complicated feeling with boxing and why, as well as my defense case for it before I watched the whole video and saw pretty much got all those point so instead I'm gonna talk about all the boxing stuff I love in this movie and mistakes it made! YAY!💀💀💀 1. 2:40 The light heavyweight division is usually paper thin so the record and Donnie being able to knock him out is believable enough 😭 2. 2:54 Danny Wheeler is played by former 2 weight division world champion and hall of famer and one of my most favorite fighters out all time Andre Ward. And that was his real record when he retired 3. 4:11 time truly is undefeated and I just love that quote 4. 5:13 Leo Sporino is played by 26W-16L warrior Gabriel Rosado. One of my faves, he's never won a title unfortunately but he's a DAWG, has an amazing resume despite the losses and always puts on a show. I've never met anyone that dislikes him. 5. 5:13 Boxing promoters are the worst thing about boxing and I'm just gonna leave it at that 6. 6:21 Jawn! :) 7. 7:28 I always hated it when the bell sounded only for coach to tell me to keep going😭 painfully relatable, literally 8. 7:55 EVERY BOXING GYM HAS A MIRROR!!! almost as essential as gloves or a jump rope. not a lot of people understand how important it is to actually SEE how ur whole body is moving when u throw a punch (ik it's filmed in a real gym but still). kinetic chain and all that 9. 8:38 not everyone does it but it's important for some fighters to get up early so u can get in as much training as possible so you can rest and recover the rest of the evening which is arguably the most important. 10. 9:06 ik he's an actor and he's actually gotten a lot better :D, but Jordan's pad work and form looks terrible 😭 11. 9:13 accurate 12. 9:49 it's not that hard lol. It's all about rhythm and practice but it can be tricky for new people. 13. 10:19 everyone gets nerves before a before a BIG fight. if u get a chance to meet a fighter and they say no they're lying💀 also that's a real ref but idk his name. 14. 12:11 trainers (the British guy specifically) don't do this 15. 13:16 you might think it's unrealistic that he could get a title shit just cuz of his last name but you'd actually be surprised how often outside of the top 15 get cherry picked 🙄 16. 16:25 for the film's purposes Jordan looks great but irl being as bulky as him just weighs you down and gases u out faster and it actually takes power off ur punches. Look up Anthony Joshua 17. 17:21 this type of press conference jawing and stuff is usually for show but a lot of the time it's real genuine HATE all caps😭. Look up Alycia Baumgardner vs Milkaela Mayer 18. 19:05 the fight woulda been stopped right here irl and Donnie woulda lost all respect all the BoXiNg ExPeRtS around the world would clown him and say he's got a glass jaw when I'm reality it was just a good shot 19. 19:26 usually the ringside doctor would do this, not the ref. and any respectable trainer wouldn't allow this fight to go on, title or not. I'm disappointed in u Ricky :( 20. 20:00 accurate 22:22 agreed 21. 22:50 if Drago didn't kill him the most that would happen is he would probably get his boxing license suspended for like a year. But death rarely happens IN the ring so idk what the consequences are for that🤷🏽♂️ also exhibitions rarely ever get THAT heated. The ref shoulda stopped it
This film is an absolute masterpiece in filmmaking. Everything from Ryan Coogler's brilliant direction, the beautiful performances from Jordan and Stallone, the phenomenal cinematography, and the fantastic musical score! I can't get enough of how amazing this film is!
5:00 WHAT NO, WHAT, NO . I HAD NO IDEA LEE WATCHED FOOTBALL ( soccer ). Ps. That goal he scored in his soccer league was amazing.technique, power, class all rolled into one player. A true diamond in the rough type player
The final scene, at the top of the steps, really hit me. Feels like Donny and Rock leaving room for creed; father, son and father figure. Losing your dad, barely knowing him (or not at all) leaves a huge gap, but they’re still a part of you.
I sadly missed out on the Creed films when they first came out, because around 2015-2018, I had to cut down on cinemagoing for a bit for financial reasons. It's been a treat catching up recently and I can't wait for Creed 3.
8:29 I'm a natural night owl, far from a morning person, but my day has to start early because of work. I need someone like Rocky in my life to get that energy when I wake up.
I just watched this movie recently for the first time, without ever having seeing the Rocky films prior, and even I absolutely loved it despite not liking movies as of late. I literally cried four times for the first movie, then four more times for what I've seen of the second movie so far. One of the most amazing movies I have ever seen if not the single greatest.
The chemo stuff is too real. You have good days, bad days, and days that you wish had never happened. You can fight hard and still lose. Ultimately though you cling to the stuff that makes you feel "normal" the best you can. My dad worked on cars until the neuropathy made it too hard. You make every effort to do things that fill your life with something worthwhile. It's the space between the beats that you find matters most. Man this movie hits me differently now.
There's no reason why you should be making me enjoy these movies more than I did in theatres. You honestly make me enjoy these movies as much as I did the first time and then some! Love the videos, appreciate your work in a very difficult time in my life.
Watching Rocky Balboa got me into the Rocky movies when I was younger cause I was always the underdog when it came to sports. I ran cross country and track and I always tried my best but I got beat because I didn't have that natural talent. But knowing that no matter how hard I kept getting beat, I knew I always had the chance to get back up and try again like Rocky. Also Creed and Rocky Balboa both made me cry so there's that too. I always appreciate the kind of motivation that makes you want to be better you than before instead of being the best.
From the first movie I've ever seen him in to now, watching Stallone become a master of his craft makes me feel this weird sense of pride. I can't explain it but I know that's what I feel. Here's to one of the most underrated actors out there.
@5:38 thats the movie I want to see though. About that boxer that trains everyday and all day who makes his bread by taking on fights he knows he can’t win. But still gets up everyday to train. That needs to be a movie.
It’s not a movie and it doesn’t stick with it too long, but the first season of the anime Megalobox starts on a similar premise - underground boxer who knows he’s better than where he is taking dives in fixed matches. Not fully what you’re looking for but it’s a damn good boxing show, I’d recommend it
Absolutely loved this franchise!!! And love the channel!!! I know I’ll be the only one asking over and over but if you could do Little Miss Sunshine and/or The Full Monty, my life would be fulfilled. Look up their numbers and awards, and forget everything you remember and heard. The relationships in these movies WILL make you laugh, cry, and will destroy your “feels”… REALLY watch these movies, they’re incredible. Thank you!!
And You Thought It Would Fail: When the film was first announced, many fans were less-than-enthusiastic, saying that Rocky Balboa had been a perfect send-off for the series and that this film would likely be a poor follow-up. As it turned out, it garnered even more critical acclaim than Rocky Balboa and made back its budget in its first weekend alone. It also brought an Oscar nomination for Stallone, his first since the original Rocky.
I've lost count of how many times I watched Creed, and his final training montage still gives me chills in the good place in my brain whenever it comes on.
I remember when I first watched this, there was a serious lack of interest. Nobody was talking about it and I was like, I think this is going to be good. After I saw it I was telling everyone to watch, I was bringing it up when it had nothing to do w/ the previous conversation.
In a way, this went step for step with the OG Rocky only this one had Creed's son getting the attention of the champ after he tried so hard to keep his true lineage a secret. (In the modern age we live in where the average person is a paparazzi just cause they have a phone with a camera, yeah. Luck with that one.) What I loved about this one was how they leaned into the lineage well without overdoing it. How organic the relationship between Adonis and Rocky grew with time and it wasn't just immediate. Creed 2 served as a super nice postmortem on the events of Rocky IV and I'll wax poetic about it next week. I think it's more emotionally gripping than this one was, for a lot of different reasons. I also like the way it blended something from Rocky 2 and meshed it perfectly with something that went down in Rocky 4. Oh speaking of, finding out who won that third fight in Creed filled in the blank as to why Apollo took the exhibition with Ivan. Rocky sorta kinda spelled out why he lost it apart from being across the ring from a PED enhanced Russian cyborg in human form throwing haymakers at him. Loved this movie, loved the second and excited to see where they take it for the third movie. (Hopefully it's the finale.)
Fun fact during the morning scene the director wanted him to throw water in him to wake him up but Stallone didn’t think it fit he’s character so he suggested him playing music instead
I just wanna say I have never seen this movie but the moment the horns cut in with the OG theme? I wasn't expecting to tear up watching this video yet here we are.
I was watching this thinking "both Jordan and Thompson have been in the MCU. That's kinda cool." And then I realized, wait, crap, *so has Stallone* because the MCU is all-encompassing, all-powerful, and no one can escape its grasp.
19:04 it’s definitely the dramatic effect. Normally, a boxer falls face first without trying to break his/her fall, the ref will immediately stop the fight
should've had a win for the ring walks, Adonis walking to tupac All Eyes On Me to show this is the biggest moment of his career and Conlan coiming out with a guy blowing flames like; like a knight facing off a dragon holy fuck that scene gave me chills
Rocky is probably my favorite film character of all time. No character hits me in the heart like good ol Rocko. When he says "You're a Creed, and I love ya kid" I freakin' bawl like a baby every single time.
While I have yet to watch Creed on my own time, I just got to give a shout out to Ryan coogler in general. the dude just knows how to make a damn good movie.
18:32 Now that I think about it, you probably could’ve mentioned his workout routine earlier in the video. For example, around 16:16 20:54 The singing bit gave me a good chuckle.
17:50 it's a callback to the line earlier that "women weaken legs" (itself a callback to Rocky 1), which refers to the belief that orgasming the night before a fight will weaken your stamina.
I am once again asking for your support...in requesting The Princess Bride! It's the greatest movie ever made and I would love to see you cover it. Episode 97 of asking!
Great video, as always. My favorite movie about a similar sport (UFC) is Warrior with Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, and Nick Nolte. So well done, amazing performances (Hardy and Nolte especially), and I really think you'd enjoy it
Emotionally stable? What's that? never heard of it in my life. Dude, you actually made me cry, and I've never watched a single Rocky movie. Good job, seriously, awesome.
I think boxing and other combat sports definitely should exist, but I get what you’re saying. People have died and gotten hurt, of course, but action is emotion. Violence and martial arts are how we express cultural values and are a (mostly) safe way to express emotions. There’s a TTRPG I’m playing called Gubat Banwa that’s really good with this. Great video, though. I love this movie
Great shoutout to tjlovesfights. This movie is the bomb and has a lot of things that are actually very representative of what professional boxing is like, particularly in regards to boxers and their undefeated records. Current undisputed lightweight champ Devin Haney as well as Canelo got a big start at a young age in Mexico padding their records before they were old enough to fight professionally in the US, and you see Adonis do that at the start of this movie
Speaking as a huge boxing fan, most trainers would only agree to keeping the fight going as long as that's what their fighter wants, and even then some won't risk it. Joe Frazier's corner forced him to quit during his last match with Muhammad Ali, even though he insisted on continuing. But he became completely blind in the fight because his only seeing eye became so swollen he couldn't see, so his trainers knew he'd be screwed.
9:31 being enemies on the field and then be the best man at there wedding is true me and my best buddy play soccer and I am a defender and he is a attacker I cannot count how many times I have almost killed him on pitch but as the whistle blowes we are best buddies again
5:18 Kevin Grieb is not undefeated. The card is WINS - LOSSES - DRAWS Since draws in boxing are rare they are always last. You can confirm this with Rocky Balboa movie, the movie put Rocky's card before the fight with Mason Dixon starts. Hope I could help out! Love you channel!
As someone who boxed lightly; I had more success with the big body bag than the speed bag. Soo you're right two actors drilling the speed bag even for a 3-minute clip is pretty fucking awesome 👌🏿 👏🏿
I love all the Rocky/Creed films, they’re all so inspiring no matter what. But the one thing that bugged me about the character of Adonis is, Apollo seriously had an affair towards the end of his life and had a bastard as a result? Idk why but that kinda tarnished how cool and inspirational Apollo was. Well, to me at least. Also, he and Mary Anne had kids (shows them in Rocky II), but they strangely aren’t even acknowledged in these new films. That being said, I still love the character and the films and can’t wait for the third one next week.
I consider this a perfect sequel. Ryan Coogler absolutely nailed everything. Showed so much respect while also introducing new characters and stakes. This is the benchmark for how to return to an established franchise.
I watch this movie right after my mom was diagnosed with cancer and I was not prepared for this movie to hit me with that. I had just left for college and was living on my own for the first time, and was sobbing in my apartment.
I was watching The Office compilations, and my wifi's terrible right now. So when this video showed up in my recommendations, for a split second, the thumbnail loaded in as Creed from The Office.
The thing is, also, a lot of managers DO book their fighters in fights they think they can win and they gradually increase the difficulty. They’ll never put their fighter in a fight with someone that’ll completely outclass them. As a martial artist, boxing among my arts, it’s about confidence. Most fights are won because you’re confident things will go your way. Plus, there are some fighters whose egos are way high. They lose, and they’re not a fighter anymore. They’re someone in shape that can throw punches. There’s a major philosophy that every fighter and martial artist has. There’s a difference.
I think the fact that this guy took a UA-cam series that was based so negatively and turned it into a positive show is such a good force for the world. And a fantastic trait for all dad's to have 🤜🤛👏

No flashback worked, then Apollo's fight kicked in and that's what got him up

@@lukepier9736 As a boxing movie, Raging Bull is perhaps more accurate and honest about the fate of many boxers. It's a particular type of character study, and De Niro puts on a great show.
Overall, I prefer Creed. But I don't fault anyone for preferring Raging Bull or arguing it belongs higher. Similar arguments are made for Rocky (1 and 2).
Crying Fist is a great boxing movie. You might enjoy it.
9:15 I personally like to sum that entire win up in one sentence: "They're your opponent, not your enemy."
Rocky Balboa & Creed are both great movies. Stallone has gotten better with age & Jordan is incredible. Watching this makes me want to watch those two movies again.
16:50 "move faster than I think rocky ever did" That line gave me chills. What a great franchise.
3:39
Maybe so, but it took them forever to build a statue of the real life Rocky, Joe Frazier.
(I know Chuck Wepner was the inspiration Sylvester Stallone used to write Rocky but hear me out on this)
Joe's from Philly, he worked in a slaughterhouse so he trained by actually punching meat, and he use to run the steps at the museum.
YAY!💀💀💀
1. 2:40 The light heavyweight division is usually paper thin so the record and Donnie being able to knock him out is believable enough 😭
2. 2:54 Danny Wheeler is played by former 2 weight division world champion and hall of famer and one of my most favorite fighters out all time Andre Ward. And that was his real record when he retired
3. 4:11 time truly is undefeated and I just love that quote
4. 5:13 Leo Sporino is played by 26W-16L warrior Gabriel Rosado. One of my faves, he's never won a title unfortunately but he's a DAWG, has an amazing resume despite the losses and always puts on a show. I've never met anyone that dislikes him.
5. 5:13 Boxing promoters are the worst thing about boxing and I'm just gonna leave it at that
6. 6:21 Jawn! :)
7. 7:28 I always hated it when the bell sounded only for coach to tell me to keep going😭 painfully relatable, literally
8. 7:55 EVERY BOXING GYM HAS A MIRROR!!! almost as essential as gloves or a jump rope. not a lot of people understand how important it is to actually SEE how ur whole body is moving when u throw a punch (ik it's filmed in a real gym but still). kinetic chain and all that
9. 8:38 not everyone does it but it's important for some fighters to get up early so u can get in as much training as possible so you can rest and recover the rest of the evening which is arguably the most important.
10. 9:06 ik he's an actor and he's actually gotten a lot better :D, but Jordan's pad work and form looks terrible 😭
11. 9:13 accurate
12. 9:49 it's not that hard lol. It's all about rhythm and practice but it can be tricky for new people.
13. 10:19 everyone gets nerves before a before a BIG fight. if u get a chance to meet a fighter and they say no they're lying💀 also that's a real ref but idk his name.
14. 12:11 trainers (the British guy specifically) don't do this
15. 13:16 you might think it's unrealistic that he could get a title shit just cuz of his last name but you'd actually be surprised how often outside of the top 15 get cherry picked 🙄
16. 16:25 for the film's purposes Jordan looks great but irl being as bulky as him just weighs you down and gases u out faster and it actually takes power off ur punches. Look up Anthony Joshua
17. 17:21 this type of press conference jawing and stuff is usually for show but a lot of the time it's real genuine HATE all caps😭. Look up Alycia Baumgardner vs Milkaela Mayer
18. 19:05 the fight woulda been stopped right here irl and Donnie woulda lost all respect all the BoXiNg ExPeRtS around the world would clown him and say he's got a glass jaw when I'm reality it was just a good shot
19. 19:26 usually the ringside doctor would do this, not the ref. and any respectable trainer wouldn't allow this fight to go on, title or not. I'm disappointed in u Ricky :(
20. 20:00 accurate
22:22 agreed
21. 22:50 if Drago didn't kill him the most that would happen is he would probably get his boxing license suspended for like a year.
That cycle training montage does it for me all the time. This is a great movie.
Rocky's speech to his son in Balboa is hands down the greatest dialogue ever written
That subtle Steven Segal burn 🔥
I just watched this movie recently for the first time, without ever having seeing the Rocky films prior, and even I absolutely loved it despite not liking movies as of late. I literally cried four times for the first movie, then four more times for what I've seen of the second movie so far. One of the most amazing movies I have ever seen if not the single greatest.
Yes! Thank you CinemaWins! This was the video I was dreaming of and it didn't dissapoint!
I'm not even remotely into boxing, but by the gods, I love the Rocky and Creed movies. so excited for Creed 3!
"Time takes everybody out, it's undefeated" - Rocky Balboa (Creed)
From the first movie I've ever seen him in to now, watching Stallone become a master of his craft makes me feel this weird sense of pride. I can't explain it but I know that's what I feel. Here's to one of the most underrated actors out there.
I love this movie and the second one, they have so much heart and that's the essence of the Rocky films.
PLEASE do everything great about the first 3 Rocky movies!
Oh my gosh, I’ve been begging for these movies for like a year now thank you
@5:38 thats the movie I want to see though.
Not fully what you’re looking for but it’s a damn good boxing show, I’d recommend it
I adored Creed, i haven't watched the second one cause i'm sceptical, but hearing 3 is coming out soon makes me want to watch it
Creed II is nowhere near as good as the first one, but it's not outright terrible.
This movie will make you go on a run and you'll feel good about it
just when i thought i couldn't love this movie more.
It also brought an Oscar nomination for Stallone, his first since the original Rocky.
i love that they tease us with the original theme throught out the movie, and than twist the knive in the end 🥲
I've lost count of how many times I watched Creed, and his final training montage still gives me chills in the good place in my brain whenever it comes on.
Gabe Rosado who fights with Donnie in this "one take battle" actually said that they filmed the fight few times, everytime was a "one take".
I remember when I first watched this, there was a serious lack of interest. Nobody was talking about it and I was like, I think this is going to be good. After I saw it I was telling everyone to watch, I was bringing it up when it had nothing to do w/ the previous conversation.
i also think the commitment to philly artists for the soundtrack deserved a win, and more of an la focus in the second movie.
Now you've teased us EGA Good Will Hunting. Now it has to happen.
"Arms wide open" was a nice touch; and a double meaning if you know it.
Read this when the scene came on
I just wanna say I have never seen this movie but the moment the horns cut in with the OG theme? I wasn't expecting to tear up watching this video yet here we are.
The "it's you against you" line is paraphrased from Ray Lewis talking about effort, as effort is between you and you.
You had me at "With alms wahd opun".
Absolutely amazing, never stop this channel.
It gets people through hard times my dood.
To me, the coolest coincidence in the Creed films is how much Michael B. Jordan looks like Carl Weathers. It’s gotta be the mustache!
strong cheekbones.
I was watching this thinking "both Jordan and Thompson have been in the MCU. That's kinda cool." And then I realized, wait, crap, *so has Stallone* because the MCU is all-encompassing, all-powerful, and no one can escape its grasp.
You should do everything great about Monsters Inc next
For example, around 16:16
20:54 The singing bit gave me a good chuckle.
This first movie was honestly perfection
Great video, as always. My favorite movie about a similar sport (UFC) is Warrior with Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton, and Nick Nolte. So well done, amazing performances (Hardy and Nolte especially), and I really think you'd enjoy it
Love the Bianca and Donnie scene. She was right to point out about him picking and choosing.
Emotionally stable? What's that? never heard of it in my life.
Dude, you actually made me cry, and I've never watched a single Rocky movie. Good job, seriously, awesome.
AW, YEAH! The Creed movies are amazing!
I watched this movie without knowing anything about Rocky and I loved it. Still need to get around to watching the Rocky movies.
Been waiting for this one for a while
I think boxing and other combat sports definitely should exist, but I get what you’re saying.
He didn't talk about it but the "He Bleed Like Me" when he cuts conlin hits different for me
This movie is SO good! Thank you for covering it
I really love the boxing stats they would throw up in the first film, and wish they kept that Japanese media trope in the sequels.
pls do “Everything Great About Real Steel”
5:18 Kevin Grieb is not undefeated. The card is WINS - LOSSES - DRAWS
Since draws in boxing are rare they are always last.
You can confirm this with Rocky Balboa movie, the movie put Rocky's card before the fight with Mason Dixon starts.
Hope I could help out! Love you channel!
I’ve been watching this channel since it first started and this video is the first I’ve cried throughout
As someone who boxed lightly; I had more success with the big body bag than the speed bag. Soo you're right two actors drilling the speed bag even for a 3-minute clip is pretty fucking awesome 👌🏿 👏🏿
I would have never expected a Sean Dyche reference in a CinemaWins video but here we are! absolutley love it XD
I never knew they had kids. I must've overlooked it when I saw the movie as I got older
He's a fictional boxer. What's so inspirational about Apollo Creed
@@cadillacdeville5828 yeah go check it out. It’s the scene where Apollo is reading fan mail to his wife on the balcony of his home.
@@Eggy79 go watch all of his scenes in Rocky III and get back to me.
Being cool and inspirational doesn't make someone infallible. Everyone stumbles and has moments of weakness. Some worse than others.
And a fantastic trait for all dad's to have 🤜🤛👏
My dad loved the Rocky series growing up, and he shared them with me when I was a kid too(think I was around 12 when I first watched rocky) We don't really have the best relationship, but I always really liked Rocky, and I have fond memories with him watching the different movies together. Anyway, just wanted to say this movie is awesome haha. And I could watch it every day
BEEN WAITING ON THIS FOR SO LONG. THIS IS MY FAVORITE MOVIE ALL TIME.
