"The frequency in which I'm using the ramboxes is far more than I would be using the bed capacity that I've lost by getting the Ramboxes.".... Well stated! That's the period at the end of that debate! Exactly what I've been trying to verbalize for awhile. Thank you! Well produced video!
Often dividing a space into compartments is more efficient and handier. As a big plus, the boxes are more secure, better organized, and offer substantial protection from the weather and theft. I wish Ram had something like this for their big dual wheel trucks, it would be a very attractive option, the wasted space above the tires is huge.
Rambox = 80 gallon transfer flow tank No rambox =109 gallon transfer flow tank + 8ft bed Don't worry though because having ramboxes and a 6ft bed doesn't mean you have a tiny pecker so you don't need to convince everybody your ramboxes aren't crap. It will just have the opposite effect. Each to their own?
I came for the 2020 Power Wagon and left loving the Ram Box. Absolutely great review. Down to earth, logical thinking. I will definitely be getting Ram Boxes with mine. You got a Sub from me! 👍🏽🙌🏽
I have had Ram Boxes since 2019. I don't think I could own a truck without them. Just like in the video, one side stays full of tools and other just in case items. The other side stays empty and I just use is for the the items of the day. I have never been upset over a lack of bed space. On the tool box side I keep a drill, battery charger, air compressor, lubricants, fuel treatment, recovery rope, breaker bar, ratchet set, lubricants, tool bag, extension cords, and ratchet straps. The cargo divider has come in more handy that I would have imagined. I keep at arms length most of the time so items don't side too far for me to reach. It makes a great ATV stop as well protecting your back glass. My tuck is a Ram Classic and it has the tabs for the bed extender. I have used it several times as well. It is well worth it to buy the tabs if you don't have them.
Love the Ram boxes on my 2020 Ram 2500 MegaCab. That where I store my hitch accessories when not in use. Went with the ReTrax PowerTrax cover. Works great with the Ram boxes.
I'm in the market for a Power Wagon and was on the fence about getting the RAMBOX. This video was exactly what I was looing for. Great review of the RAMBOXES!
Thanks bro, this helps in my decision. I had a truck years ago and I could never put valuable stuff I didn't want in the cab in the bed if the cover was off and even then they bounced around too much and got damaged. This gives me a great option.
100% love mine. Diesel fuel additive, cleaning cloths, sweat shirt, work gloves, guns when hunting, fishing poles, hitches, bungee cords, impact gun, pruning sheers, anything that I don’t need rolling around in the bed or back seat. I will be getting another one in a few weeks that also has them. I will be putting another Bakflip tonneau cover on the new one. I would like the stake pockets, but as you said, the benefits for me were so far above the negative, I don’t want a truck without them. I also love the bed divider. I hold chain saws and generators to the front when camping, or groceries to the back so things don’t slide forward. For what I do, there are so few draw backs and they are so minor for me, I am a huge promoter.
Great informative video, thank you. I also have the Ram Boxes on my 2017 Mega Cab 3500 Limited. I bought the truck to tow my 39 foot 5th wheel. RAM would not include the 5th wheel puck prep package on a Ram Box equipped truck for safety reasons. The bottom rear of a typical 5th wheel kingpin when turning sharply can impact the inner sides of the Ram Boxes. To avoid this, I opted for the Reese Sidewinder kingpin on my 5th wheel which moves the pivot point back about 22 inches up and under the nose of the 5th wheel, while locking the kingpin in place at the hitch so it cannot pivot at that point. The Sidewinder allows for 90+ degree turning with no issues. It tows very well and solid feeling. Yes, I had to install my own 5th wheel hitch rails, but not a big deal as it was a one time installation. I use my Ram Boxes for day to day items as you do on the driver side, while keeping towing equipment in the passenger side box. I am 61 years old and having the convenience of the Ram Boxes to access equipment rather than having to get up into the bed of my truck is great. The Ram Boxes can also be used as big ice chests if needed and have drain plugs at the bottoms, front and rear on each side. However, they are not well insulated, so ice melts faster on a hot day. When ordering my truck new, the Ram Boxes were a no brainer. I am surprised that Ford & GM still haven't offered something like this. The plastic clips on the lock actuator rods tend to break easily defeating the electronic locking of the Ram Boxes with the electronic key. Replacement clips are available from RAM dealers for under $2, but they will likely break again, so I just use one of the extra standard keys to lock and unlock my Ram Boxes. Thanks again for your video.
I am getting a 5th wheel to live in soon, and I was hoping that the Ram Boxes weren't a hindrance to turning the rig. Based on what you are saying, I am afraid the may be. I am not concerned with the narrower width of the cargo area. I think that the boxes more than make up for it in functionality. But I didn't know that you couldn't get a factory fifth wheel hitch from Dodge when equipped with the boxes. That is unfortunate, because I felt that the Dodge bed with all the different configurations was looking ideal. Now I am going to have to do a bunch more research into hitches. I really want my mounting point to be centered over my differential! I am glad I read your comment, though. There's nothing wrong with doing more research! If I can work out how to keep the mounting point where I want it AND get the Ram Boxes, I would be really happy.
Great Review, I love the Ram Box. Just added a 1500 to my fleet with Ram Box. Just found a little trouble finding a Rack but after a few searches I got one. Super useful on work sites makes my life easy getting things in and out.
EXCELLENT video on the ram boxes! SOLD on ram boxes option for my power wagon for small item storage. Agree with you in general. Like to see a demonstration of the winch 's use.
I have old boxes that go inside the bed with a gate. Mopar did not offer then very long. I move them from one Ram to my next Ram. The gate alone is so useful. Keeping fuel cans, used oil containers for disposal, paint, propane bottles, etc. It keeps them in place so they are not rolling around in the bed. I can leave it at the back of the bed for easy access when I get to my destination.
I remember seeing the ram box on the 2013 ram I learned they were introduced in 2009! always wanted a ram with ram boxes for work (construction ) Might want to get one As my transmission on my Silverado went out
I love the Idea. Maybe Ram could tey to squeeze a couple inches more for the bed space either by going a bit wider or reducing 1 inch from the boxes just to make it more convinient as a truck. Actually, I'm thinking about modifying the bed of an old nissan D21 to have that style of boxes in the sides. But I still have to go through a design process so see how convinient I can make it if it is possible at all.
They are fantastic, I had them on my 2014 Ecodiesel Ram, and after being taken out by a drunk driver, I picked up a 2022 ecodiesel with the rambox. Unfortunately on the 2019 and newer, they don't sell the same folding bed divider/extender. The stated reason? Chrysler says that it is because the NHTSA believes the extender blocks the view of the tail lights... (???? WHAT?) anyways, you can buy the divider/extender, and use it as just a divider as is, or you can also purchase the 4 large pins (2 of which have the locking plastic "T" knobs) and install them, all in about 5 minutes, and have yourself the working extender also.
I have the same Power Wagon! Black even! I put on- board air with a tank and all of the hoses, etc on the passenger side. I got the gun/ax rack on the drivers side. I store an ax, shovel and rifle (when I decide to do so) on the passenger side and keep some room for discretionary. I put the rest of my recovery gear in there initially. But now I got molle bags for my cargo management system to hold the rest of my recovery gear. I also have a Retrax Pro MX cover. Fantastic setup! I like that I can still get 4 foot wide plywood in the back even with the space taken up by the Ramboxes. Note: I bought the pins for the bed extender from EBay. Just have to pull off the covers and they bolt right in. I heard they stopped doing the pins due to the extender hiding the tail lights from the side. Whatever. :)
I’m going to consider the boxes pretty hard on my next truck. Have 2012 Megacab now. Toolbox in the back. There’s times I wish the length of the bed could be used more. Love the big cab for long trips but with no tonneau cover because of toolbox luggage for more than just me doesn’t work too well beside weather. I do however need to be able to drop a pallet of corn seed in the bed. Sometimes the bags hang over a pallet a bit but I think it can be done. Also I’m 5’ 10” so getting to everything in my toolbox means climbing in the bed sometimes.
Great video. At 06:20 you mentioned the bed devider pins are no longer supplied from the factory and wasn't sure why. I think I found out why.? They offer the kit on ebay from $325+ to $500+. The kit seems to come with everything. I thought that was a bit pricey. Also as of 04-05-22 they were sold out on ebay.
NTSB deemed the bed extender unsafe because it blocks the taillights from an angle. Not illegal to use, just can’t be sold OEM. The pins are available on eBay as well
apparently, they removed the pins because the use of the bed divider as bed extender blocked the visibility of the (opposite side) tail lights when viewed from the a side angle. Updated DOT regulations or some such thing. I also read that there is no change in the pin location or installation from prior years, so you can just pick up the parts and DIY install to use the extender function...
I've got a ram box ive had it for 4 days now and im a contractor best damn thing ever!! I think ill make a vid and I started this comment to say my Ram is a 2020 1500 classic with the ram box and it came off the lot with the extension pins on the tailgate
Great video! I'm looking for a family truck. For me, the Ram Box would be awesome and useful. I could keep stuff in the sides and keep the cab clutter free. Plus, the ATV that I'm looking at is less than 48 inches wide
@ 4 . 30 here u mention the mopar safety kit in the duffle bag......wondering what's all in there & can ya still get them as of today in jan,. 2023........? & what do the kit's cost roughly.....?? i know this is of your 2020 model here
I am 50 50 on the Ram Box. Side note I winched out a Chevy and his boat suck on the shore. Love how the truck ides up under load. Another day in the life with a Power Wagon.
I didn't realize it idles up, haven't had the opportunity to use the winch yet. Do you have dual alternators? Saving one Chevy at a time, you are a true hero :)
@@ORVXplore Haha Nope just one alternator. Yea put a load on it and it well idle up. Also have extra line too comes in handy. Oh and a tree strap and and..you get it. Prep for anything.
the pins he is referring to that is no longer available is due to causing tail light obstruction The manufacturer removed them from the vehicle and the parts from the catalog as well. Parts numbers are 68054996AA x2 and 68054997AB x2 . These are an install at your own risk as you could get a ticket for taillamp obstruction . 6:20 seconds
Great video! I love my rambox soo much. Sad about the bed extender.. Pins aren't included because it can block the tail light from view from certain angles. Apparently nothing can extend past the tail light legally... This is according to FCA when I inquired.
I just traded my 17 rebel for a loaded 21 Laramie night edition with the boxes and multi function tailgate. I had a 13 outdoorsman with the boxes and forgot just how practical they are for my needs. I was wondering why I couldn't lock in the bed extender so thanks for the info.
Great video! Did you buy it with the Tonneau covers? If not, which one you think is best? I really like the Ram Box, I just wish the bed was 1feet longer. Thank you for sharing!
...or you could just take the tonneau cover clips off while loading the quad. You could also take off the adjustable tie offs! I have this set up and don't feel like I am losing anything.
RAM removed the extender pins, because the NHTSB deemed it is unsafe to drive w/ tailgate down. Something to do w/ visibility of tail lights from all sides. I don’t agree with it, just stating the reason.
If you own a pick up they should all have ramboxes cause they act like your trunk, storing stuff in It or where else would you put those daily items? In the bed sliding everywhere or inside the only cab space you have. I work for the utility company and I’d store my harness hard hat tool bag with impact and drill my class 2 high voltage gloves etc. Perfect for me and I’d still have room to go to Home Depot and pick up a water heater for my home like I did last week.
I agree! I think the adoption rate is low because the pickup industry has gone for so long without them. People got used to having the "extra" bed space, and now that Rambox is available, they can't see past the marginal trade-off that's associated with them
Thanks for the review...great vid and points on pros/cons of what to consider if going with the Rambox option. For me, if I can get two dirt bikes or a 4-wheeler in the bed, then good to go. The dimensions allow this for my application and will be taking the plunge on adding 2 trunks to my HD 2500. I agree that the daily use of the Rambox vs the times the bed space is needed outweighs an extra 3/4 yard of mulch;-)
Thanks for the feedback! Since adding the tonneau cover, I have tried loading the ATV in the back and it's REALLY tight (actually broke one of the clips for the tonneau). That said, I was loading the Polaris Sportsman which is typically a wider machine. I think I'll test it out with another ATV to see how it does
Interested to see over time how it holds up. Love them on my 2020pw but at 7800miles only its in the body shop at the dealer as both sides have the lids coming apart. I also barely have used them and not due to abuse. Love the truck but dissapointed to find out the painted body lid that is part of each of the rambox is only held on with double stick stick tape. Yes... tape... No clips or screws sexuring it which i think is poor design.. My adhesive has failed making the pieces loose and out of alignment. My 1st new vehicle in 12.5 years and surprised to have this issue. I truly hope this is a fluke not only for myself but that of other owners.
Yellowmetaldriver sorry to hear you are having this problem with yours. I’ve had ramboxes on 5 rams since the design has been released . I haven’t had a single problem with any of them. I hope they get you squared away soon. Best of luck .
@@nolefanx07 appreciate it. So fast forward truck now has almost 25k and 2 years old. They replaced both the lid skins which for me was an added hassle since it was ceramic coated. Exact same thing happened over the next several months and there wqs no chnage in hownthe material wqs held from he original. Not that I should have to on a new and expensive vehicle but at that point I corrected it myself. Jb weld.... and has been rock solid ever since.
There are plugs at both ends. I thought the same about those lights but at night they are actually really good. I would like to add to them some led strip lights from the auto parts store.
Hi Eric- enjoyed the video and have same year rig (but non-Power Wagon & in Diesel ) with Ram Boxes. I've enjoyed them & agree with you that they're a compromise but a very functional day-to-day option! Has anyone asked yet what Tonneau cover your running with on your truck here?
Hi Jeff, thanks for sharing. Happy to hear that your experience with Ram boxes are inline with mine so far. The tonneau cover is actually made by a Canadian brand called CW. It performs the exact same function as the Bak Flip (from Bak Industries), but it was about half the price. I haven''t really spoken about it for two main reasons: 1. CW currently does not ship to the US. With the majority of viewers being American, I wouldn't want to deceive them in any way 2. They don't seem to have any models to fit this truck with Ram Boxes anymore. In fact, when I reached out to them, they told me they don't have a cover that would fit my truck, The one I bought was a clearance model and the last one they had, but it was listed for a Ram 1500 6'4" w/Rambox. Box dimensions are the same, so I picked it up. You asked a simple question and got an essay for a response... Hope that answers your question!
@@ORVXplore No worries on long response, Eric -Thnx for clarification on the bed cover. At first glance, I thought it resembled the BakFlip. I'm currently looking at the MX4 & F1 models, since there's not too many to consider for the Ram Boxes & the reviews on those are mixed?? If you get any updates or good feedback for better options for Tonneau covers that work with RB's, maybe you can do a video on that :) Cheers, Jeff
Thanks for the video, ordered mine with the boxes and multifunction gate, I'm interested to know about your tonneau cover, what brand/model is it and whether u like it or not
The major draw back of the ram box on the power wagon, is the significant payload decrease. Brings them down to almost 1300 pounds, add sliders 37s and 4 people. Technically you are over weight. My 15 wagon with out the boxes has a 1800 pound payload which is still low
If you adding 37s and sliders. You probably doing some suspension upgrades too. Most of the nice Thuren and Carli kits will increase payload to 2000lbs.
In my eyes not being able to haul a atv and ice shack makes it pretty useless. It would of been nice if they made a version that was less invasive I'm sure there's a way,,, it would take away from cargo capacity but there got to be a happy medium.

Great info, thank you for letting us know!
I've got a ram box ive had it for 4 days now and im a contractor best damn thing ever!! I think ill make a vid and I started this comment to say my Ram is a 2020 1500 classic with the ram box and it came off the lot with the extension pins on the tailgate
Congrats on the truck!
Yours has the pins? Hmm...now I'm confused.
Great video! I'm looking for a family truck. For me, the Ram Box would be awesome and useful. I could keep stuff in the sides and keep the cab clutter free. Plus, the ATV that I'm looking at is less than 48 inches wide
You nailed it, that's exactly why I love them.
What ATV are you considering?
@@ORVXplore I'm look at an older Raptor or a Trx450r
I went to Gmc hate life without the boxes. I will be back to Ram soon. Now my cab is full of stuff and everything rolling around the back.
@ 4 . 30 here u mention the mopar safety kit in the duffle bag......wondering what's all in there & can ya still get them as of today in jan,. 2023........? & what do the kit's cost roughly.....?? i know this is of your 2020 model here
Good review. Well thought out and honest. Thank you.
Much appreciated!
Excellent educational video. I learned a lot. Thank you for posting
The ram boxes are definitely convenient.
Excellent, same use 🎉
Thanks for sharing. I just got a 2020 Ram Big Horn with the boxes. Using 1 box as a cooler, how do you drain off the water from the melted ice?
Drain plug towards cab
Finally I can store my AR 15 with a few hundred rounds
That's great video. Honest review & useful info. Thank you
The amount of times I've slid something bulkier into the bed and fought the wheel wells... I'd be okay with having ram boxes for sure.
The only thing I don’t understand is why they don’t offer this in an 8 foot bed
I am 50 50 on the Ram Box. Side note I winched out a Chevy and his boat suck on the shore. Love how the truck ides up under load. Another day in the life with a Power Wagon.
I didn't realize it idles up, haven't had the opportunity to use the winch yet. Do you have dual alternators?
Saving one Chevy at a time, you are a true hero :)
@@ORVXplore Haha
Nope just one alternator. Yea put a load on it and it well idle up. Also have extra line too comes in handy. Oh and a tree strap and and..you get it. Prep for anything.
I have the ram boxes on my 2017 ram 1500 I use them more than the bed I made my own dividers out of vinyl flooring they are handy
Nice video my 2011 Power Wagon don't have that bed
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you
Great info 👍love your truck
Awesome video.
the pins he is referring to that is no longer available is due to causing tail light obstruction The manufacturer removed them from the vehicle and the parts from the catalog as well.
@@JRsVsO I found you can order the pins from Ram. Don’t remember the part number though.
Thanks for sharing, I ended up reading the same on a forum. That's good to know
Great video. Well balanced.
Much appreciated!
People got used to having the "extra" bed space, and now that Rambox is available, they can't see past the marginal trade-off that's associated with them
Awesome review!
Great review! Thank you.
Thanks for the reply! 👍🏼
That's really disappointing. Thank you for the heads up
Yellowmetaldriver sorry to hear you are having this problem with yours.
Jb weld.... and has been rock solid ever since.
great review. Thanks.
Does a golf bag fit in there?
Is there only one drain plug looks like it wouldn’t drain both sides, and those lights inside the box or some weak sauce for sure
I haven''t really spoken about it for two main reasons:
1. CW currently does not ship to the US. With the majority of viewers being American, I wouldn't want to deceive them in any way
Great video today my Friend!
Thank you sir! Much appreciated!
Thanks for the video, ordered mine with the boxes and multifunction gate, I'm interested to know about your tonneau cover, what brand/model is it and whether u like it or not
great job.
The space on the Rambox of the new generation RAM 1500 is larger than the previous rambox.
Good video
My dealer told me NHTSA won’t let RM advertise the bed divider as a bed extender anymore.
In my eyes not being able to haul a atv and ice shack makes it pretty useless. It would of been nice if they made a version that was less invasive I'm sure there's a way,,, it would take away from cargo capacity but there got to be a happy medium.
Great video
Camper shells are out with Ram boxes I guess?
Great video
I just don’t like that you can’t get the gooseneck hitch from the factory with the ram boxes, I’ve seen that you can add it yourself though
I didn't realize that...thanks for pointing it out!
You can forget using a shell or standard lumber racks.
