I just purchased a new 2023 Power Wagon in December. It is a beast of a truck with the level 2 option group. It Olive Green with the black PW badging. Got a smoking deal. Over $15670 off the MSRP. I like the looks of the PW rims and stance more so than the Rebel. The Rebel has more capacity for hauling cargo, but thankfully I only tow a 3000 lb. boat, One thing that surprises me,, how much rust on the components... My last truck was a Chevy Trail Boss. After 3 years, not one bit of rust on the hardware underneath..
sounds like a nice truck, and you got a great deal! Thank you for watching!
Just out of curiosity, why did you go with a 2500 PW over a 1500 off road configuration?
@@matt3054 I had a 2024 Chevy 2500 ZR2 on order. By the time I purchased that, it would have been close to $90K. The 1500 I had was a great truck, but my 2020 leather seats were a little hard on my back, and did really not that comfortable. The new 1500's cost as much as the new Power Wagon after getting over $15000 off the MSRP from Dodge. Love the Chevy 1500 Trail Boss, don't get me wrong, but I do love the comfort of the seats and looks of my 2500 Power Wagon..
I really appreciate how you explain what every feature is and what it does. Not all of us are off road/truck experts so this video was very knowledgeable. Thank you so much.
I appreciate that!
I had a ford raptor, i traded it in on a new 2019 Power Wagon Dec 2019 and haven't looked back, the off-roading i do is not high speed but pretty hard core plus i am always hauling quads and dirt bikes and in 2019 it was the first year of the 8 speed and i prefer that year because it has the fold up armrest in the front center for an additional seat, having a family of 6 it was the best truck for us and i still love it! there is also a procharger kit for these trucks with everything to include the computer that adds 150hp lol i wasnt worried about it because i wasn't sure how long i would own the truck but after having it this long i definitely love it and believe it is worth the money to add on that upgrade, just sweet talking the wife currently lol
Awesome to hear you went from Raptor to that truck! PW is a legit truck! Thanks for watching!
@@CTECH-REVIEW absolutely, ty for the video! Seems like all the comparisons focus on payload and don’t discuss the difference in the PW suspension so your video was appreciated!
hell yeah man. i just traded my 19 raptor in 2 days ago on a rebel. love the truck so far
Young man, you do a great job at explaining things.
Hey thanks for watching!!
Power Wagon for me. One additional detail, the Power Wagon comes standard with the winch; the Rebel doesn't, it's optional. Also if you don't need to tow more than 10K lbs, then you can add air suspension over the axle to level the truck. CJC Offroad has an air bag kit, that is swappable with the standard bump stops, just by pulling a pin out and putting the original bump stops back in. Thank you for doing this comparison; I've been waiting for someone to do this for a long time, since both 2500s are comparable equipped.
Happy to help!! Thank you for watching!
I love my Powerwagon. I have never used it for its intended use of going overloading or off roading, but its pretty nice knowing I can when I want to.
Thanks for watching! Enjoy your ride!!
yeah....knowing youre too heavy and too big to actually offroad
@@jdbdidoek We wheel these trucks hard. Check out Power Wagons in Moab, Red Rocks Ram Rally, Full Size Invasion… @redrockramrally
I purchased my olive green Rebel with the 6.4 HEMI six months ago, and I love it. It's perfect for towing my RV on unimproved roads. I would have purchased one with the diesel engine but the cargo capacity was lower because of the weight of that engine. I love the power wagon but I would never be rock crawling and it didn't have the cargo capacity I needed as well.
Thanks for sharing! Happy Camping!
So the diesel made that much of a difference in payload? I know that from the WT trucks, yet I didn’t account for it in this equation. Good input👍How many 100#s do you gain by going Gas in this model for payload? It could be a game changer depending on use!
I guess it boils down to what your not only doing most, but what you want it to excel at…kind of Hybrid Truck..on and off road..work and play..oh the rear coils of my PW are not …confidence building 😶when trailering a ..max load or better😜.. but when it’s time to get 4LOW…she makes me smile. Until I stop at the next gas station 😥
Cheers from Alaska AK49
The ram 2500 rebel hd with the Cummins can only tow a max of 14,920lbs. almost 2,000lbs less than the gas engine. to me, this makes absolutely no sense. you are going to pay 12,000 dollars for an engine that tows less weight. The 6.4 hemi gas engines has a max payload of close to 3000 lbs and actually get the max towing capacity of the 17,000lbs.
So with a Cummins with a payload of only 1,483 lbs. There is no way this truck can tow 17,000 lbs safely. when towing, you need 10% of the trailer weight on the truck, and having 1,700lbs of trailer weight on the truck would mean the truck is overloaded.
I have a 22 PW but I wish I knew they were coming out with the Rebel with the Cummins before I bought the PW. I definitely would have waited. But I love my PW. The thing is a beast. Great review. 🎉
Thanks for watching!
Nice job comparing the truck. Good information!
Glad you liked it! Thanks for watching!
Excellent comparison / review! What I did was to add airbags onto the rear suspension which actually gets you anove the Rebal on payload and towing. However, you do cut the economic advantage on the MSRP roughly in half by adding the bags.
Would LOVE to have a diesel version of the PW. You can get the Rebal in a diesel but you still are not getting the lockers front and back as well as sway bar disconnect and lift. The winch on either is awesome.
a Diesel PW would be sick!! thank you for the comments and thanks for watching!
The rebel 2500 sitting at my local dealer has a Cummings in it. It would be nice to see the power wagon with the same option 😊
heck ya!
I ordered a 2024 PW with most options. No fifth wheel. Level 2. I’m really looking forward to this truck. I do some serious off roading and I believe the PW will stay with a Rubicon or possibly exceed it. My son has a Gladiator Rubicon so I guess we’ll find out. Thanks for the comparison.
Incredible! enjoy that truck! Thanks for watching!
As long as she fits! Love my power wagon, but she is a massive girl.
WEW. 27:04:2024. Great video, very easy to understand and helps me make an informed decision "POWER WAGON" for me. Victoria Australia. Thank you.
Thank you for the comment from Australia!! Thanks for watching!
I have a 21 PW (Anniversary) and love it! Only upgrade is 37" BFG KO2 and the ride can be soft/spongy at times. She does great on the trails and on long road trips. After a day on some tough trails, she rides smooth and straight back on the roadway. I'm very happy with the 6.4 Hemi and the 8-speed tranny. For my needs (off road camping, road trips, minimal towing) there is no other truck I would rather have right now... FYI, the HD Rebel with the 6.4 Hemi (3140, 16870) has a better payload and tow capacity that the HD Rebel with a Cummins (1970, 14920)
Love it, thanks for watching!
Is there any rub on the 37s
yes, slightly on the sway bar (hard turns), but it doesn't bother me or cause any damage@@jasonproulx268
I am looking to buy a 2024 Rebel HD. I have a 2020 Rebel 1500 and I love it. But we are upgrading our trailer to a larger one. I am thinking Hemi over the Cummins because of towing. Sure the Cummins can pull more, but the payload capacity goes way down with that heavy engine. So if your dry Hitch Weight is 500 pounds more than the payload capacity to begin with, what good does the Cummins do for you?
I agree if you are chasing payload then for a Ram 2500 the 6.4l hemi will give you more carrying capacity! Thanks for watching!
If those vehicles were just delivered, surprised to see a decent amount of rust when you were showing the sway bar areas and underneath on both trucks... especially for a brand new vehicle for longevity!
Sometimes sway bar connection links are a different material which shows surface rust easily. I have seen this on other trucks too! thanks for watching!
20 years ago? I drove a 1974 Power Wagon.!
Lucky dog! those are sick!!
I have a 22 Rebel GT (center console shift ) , 21k on it , 3.5 inch lift , oracle light bar ,tint front windows , billet silver. Has the 5.7 Hemi but still plenty strong . Do those have Dual exhaust ? Didn't look like it .
I dont think the 2500 Ram gets dual exhaust on any of the trucks, but I will look into that!
How and why are rhe payloads different? Is it the winch ? On the power wagon that decreases the payload?
PW decreases the payload/tow rating vs the Rebel due to suspension changes! Thank you for watching!
I just bought a 2024 RAM 2500 REBEL/POWER WAGON CREW CAB, these two trucks are different ones a rebel 2500 and ones a 2500 power wagon I guess I got the two trucks combined into one truck?
you got a nice truck! Thanks for watching!
Great comparison. The power wagon is an amazing off road machine. I would have one in a heartbeat , but I need higher payload rating. Seems like the rebel is overpriced for what it is.
Makes sense! Thanks for watching!
Thank you!
I have a 2023 1500 classic warlock with the 6.4 bed, 355 gears, limited slip, tow package, etc and list was 52 grand i paid 42,800.00 in rounds numbers, with the 3.6 it gets 16 city and last highway was 20.6 with 6500 miles so its broken in.
Thanks for watching!
It’s the payload that you get with the rebel. I was gonna get a power wagon for my overland build but then I saw the minimal payload… it’s made for rock crawling and that’s about it
Thanks for watching
Aisin Transmission in the Powerwagon i think but not the Rebel. That transmission changes for Model Year 2025 for the Powerwagon to a much more robust one built in South Carolina. I think the Rebel transmission is an in house Dodge product...which may in fact be better than both the Aisin and the new replacement one as it doesn't have a complex internal cooling system that if that fails needs to be entirely removed and replaced which in a Dodge Truck i have read anyways is a real bear to do that. Look forward to your 2025 comparison of the two as a consequence! Verdict: still well nigh impossible to defeat a GM product in the meantime but Tesla sure is trying!
Cummins with 8sp will be awesome. But to be fair in 50,000 miles I’ve had no transmission issues with my six speed behind my Cummins.
For me it comes down to payload & towing capacity and the fact that you can get the Cummins 6.7 in the rebel. If you off road a lot, go PW... if you tow and haul a lot, go rebel.
I completely agree if your buying a rebel you have to get the cummins! Thanks for watching!
I have a 75th anni also. I wanted a Rebel because of the diesel and rear locker. It’s a fail when you have that combo because you’re literally back to 1400lbs of payload.. it’s only better for towing. I wish Ram had lockers for their Big Horn and Laramie models but they won’t. When Ford F250/350 has a locker even on a work truck as an option. Ram is falling behind now. I love my truck but I’m starting to think of other brands now
Interesting on the lockers! Thanks for watching!
Power Wagon for me. Off road ride is much better in the PW. On road ride is better also.Unless.you need high.capacity to PW. My power wagon hauls all I need.
Thanks for watching!
What is Ram 2500 Vendor Painted Cargo Box?
I am not sure, thanks for the comment.
My truck got built April, 16. When will I get it?
How is it a 2500 with 1365 payload. Is it just a re-badged 1500. 1365 payload kills the PW truck for being a 2500.
I dont disagree! the 2500 PW has softer suspension so it doesnt get the full range a standard 2500 gets of Payload!
Yeah give me the rebel. I need 3/4ton numbers for towing. As for the powerwagon, i can never understand why they would not have front lockers/disconnecting sway bar in the 1/2ton rebel. Who takes a 3/4ton truck offroad and in trails. The approach and depart angles suck. Long wheel base. Not enough clearance for actusl offroafing where you need to disconnect swaybar
I agree! Thanks for watching!
The real purpose is that the Rebel has Cummins TD available.
You nailed it!! That to me is the only reason to buy the Rebel over the PW! Thanks for watching!!
💯
Rebel….without a diesel…..get the PWagon…otherwise pay.pad and towing mean nothing for the smiles for miles
I completely agree! thank you for watching!
PW is niche vehicle, too big for serious offroad, payload way too small for any HD work, Rebel is overpriced for what it is.....really have to get a serious I dont give a F discount or will get killed on resale......rarely see any of these on the street where I live, though plenty of Ram HD for towing......they are getting hammered for truck sales currently.....PW should ride nicer overall just based on tire, air pressure and 1000lb payload....should feel like a couch
I completely agree!
So what you're saying is but a used PW
Get a TRX…
They are awesome!
Who thenhell would buy these trucks? They are both rusted all over the place and they are brand new.. the power wagon has actual rust and paint peeling off the springs already. Like wtf!!!! I would refuse delivery
some of the quality I have seen on all brands of vehicles in 2024 is just mind boggling. Sad
I will save everyone 20 minutes. The powerwagon is a waste of money.. it unlocks the sway bar and has lockers? Who cares it’s a 8000lb truck , no one wants to off-road it. The rebel has WAY WAY more options that is why it’s more expensive. The power wagon also gets 10mpg. It can’t tow as good as a half ton as it has a little more then half the towing of a regular 2500. It also has 1000lbs less payload then a normal 2500. Again it’s useless. Off-roading is for jeeps and small trucks not a huge heavy long wheelbase full size crew cab.. it’s a gimmick
Thanks for watching.
ABSOLUTELY NO ONE is seriously offroading a heavy duty truck - they're too huge to be "rock crawling" much less on narrow trails - bunch of smoke and mirrors
Thanks for your comments!
Here in the desert there is plenty of room for man sized pickups! We don't go anywhere there is not enough room, like any other mode of transportation. Sorry if you live surrounded by small trees or big rocks. Here, we are free
I've seen plenty of people using HD trucks for off-road/overland vehicles
I daily'd a power wagon for work, and it was good, like, really really good.
I'm getting another one😅
My dually would disagree 😅😂
