Good stuff Dave, have a good weekend. Like button enabled and video watched in its entirety for the 100K milestone.
I have to agree with the eating good, I'm 31 and trying to eat as clean as possible, in the day to day its small increments but noticeable after a while.
65. When you stop eating all the junk. Junk like all those delicious baked goods your wife makes and ice cream. That makes a huge difference. Gave up the junk started walking. A little at a time. Two miles 3 or 4 times a week. Dropped 30 lbs in 4 months. No other exercise. Kept eating what I was eating already. Gave up the cakes, cookies, pies and ice cream. So good on you for taking interest in your health.
I second or third the diet part, makes all the difference. Had a heart attack and wake up call last year, now it’s eating light, MT biking and indoor climbing gym. Haven’t been this trim since high school 30 years ago.
Just remember it takes time, keep at it and it will come. Get a goal and a plan to achieve that goal. And diet goes hand in hand with the exercise. If diet is crap you will look like crap. I came back after spending two months in a hospital bed, losing over 50lbs of muscle and have to learn how to walk again. But with heart and dedication I was able to compete in my very first bodybuilding show a year-to-date after getting shot. It goes the same with someone just trying to get back into shape. Keep at it buddy.
I always learn a new trick i hadnt thought of watching your videos. Using the wrench to bell the exhaust is genius. I never have good luck with those tailpipe expander tools anyway.
Good to know. I've got a 22 F250 7.3 with 4:30 gears and the 10 speed that I absolutely love. I'm ready to start modifying it and this video helped push me to do it. From what I've seen out of the 7.3s with a 10 speed stock should be upper 340s to lower 360s on the horsepower.
Having the DRW likely saps some power from what others may post up with their respective dyno sheets. The transmission may be different as well. All 7.3's might have the same, but being a 350 DRW I wonder if they gave it the same internals as the 6.7 trans.
@@ALMX5DP they offer a detuned version in some models like the motorhomes. I'm not sure what else. All the others should have 430hp/475ft lbs at the crank.
@@jerryfoley8857 sure, I was just suggesting that being a 3500 DRW might show less power and torque making it to the rear wheels than others who post dynos up of a SRW 2500.
You should tune it. You’d love it!!! I’ve got a 21 E350 super duty cutaway with a KUV body on mine. Bought an Sct tuner and went to 5 Star Tuning for 2 different tunes. Josh Newman is the man!!! I second 5Star. I run an 87 performance tune daily on my Tremor since I rarely tow. Removed the accelerator delay, shifts through all 10 gears, and should’ve added about 36hp. Had the tune about 18000 miles no issues.

That Flowmaster 250300Y is about the best y-pipe for the money. I used a 300400Y from the header collectors on my old pickup and used a 4" diesel exhaust system to finish off my small block k2500 truck.
I used to go to that spot when I lived near Millwood. I saw the cliff where I often sat to take a break usually and watch the airplanes land or take off.
A lot of good gains can be made with exhaust for pretty chap. Nicely done! I've learned how important headers and exhaust setup are a lot on Engine Masters.
Nice gain in HP and Torque on cat back mod. Not only that, you just used extra parts laying around in your shop👍. The gain is enough not to notice any decrease of gas mileage when you are using your A/C. Excellent overall outcome👍. Any form of exercise is good for anybody. Good for you. Good gains!! Now to get an 87 octane tune and intake. Get rid of the speed limiter, manual lock it in 7th during the next dyno tune, you’ll be surprised how much more jam it will have!!
You should just stick with running just the Glasspack and reduce your restrictions. You have 2 mufflers on it so you still have some gains to be made if you get rid of the muffler and it would sound amazing. I have a single 36" Glasspack on a GM 6.2L engine and it has a deep smooth sound. I also have dual 18" Glasspacks on each pipe on a Tundra 5.7L and it is nice and loud.
I would totally ride Slick Rock Bike trail with you in Moab, during EJS next year if your there again. Good times... I used to work at Spoke and Sport on Division years ago. I don't even know if it's there anymore. Haven't lived in Spokane in years.

I watched a video where they pulled a 7.3 and put it on a dyno. All they did was change the throttle body to a Holley and put different coils on it to work with the mods that they were going to do. They got just over 500 fly wheel horsepower. Ford under rated these motors. On mine I got rid of one resonator and muffler and put on a Flowmaster. I also put on an AFE GT Momentum dry forced air intake and a Banks Pedal Monster. It woke mine up big time. The Pedal Monster does nothing for horsepower. It does make the throttle open up when you want it to and not when the EPA wants it to. It makes enough sound to make me happy without any drone noise. When towing on the hwy, you can hear it with a load.
I really want to uncork my 5.0 a bit but I think F-150s have pretty straight through mufflers already. That and I don’t want too much sound when towing, especially for a sustained mountain grade. Kinda like the silent exhaust for that situation (or decel on the way down).

I currently have a 2016 F150 5.0 Supercab 8’ bed and the heavy duty payload package. Diesel would be fun but too expensive to maintain in my opinion if it’s not making you money.
My buddy has a 7.3 and he had the throttle cable bracket come loose and cause some issues, may wanna look at that. There also is a sport mode he found, you would have to look that up on how to switch it but it made a big difference.

in europe there are a few gearboxes that use 6th as a cruising gear and 5th for top speeds , could that be why yours kicks down from 6th when you floor it .
Try gutting the muffler or the resonator and put it in place of the glass pack. If the expansion area has enough volume, the exhaust may act as if you cut it off at the cats and still be quiet. This assumes the collector and stock tubing back affects the power negatively by creating a super long collector.
Dave: You made a super amount of power for using parts you already had and you didn’t ruin the sound. A kit probably wouldn’t do any better. Hopefully, it doesn’t drone. It is possible that there is a little more power to be had. The collector/secondary length tuning is the place to concentrate on in a purpose built exhaust; however, that wouldn’t suit your stated goals (cost, messing with cats) Perhaps cutting the exhaust after the cats and putting a turn down would be the next best thing and would make slightly more power than your setup. That would be cheap, but it would suck. What I was trying to say was a homemade expansion chamber in place of the glass pack you installed, would make the exhaust act like it was cut off at the cats without fumes, would keep your sound and would still be cheap. v/r wh
Dave, if you put it in “M” mode it will hold the gear you select. Leaving it in drive how you did it, just locks out gears 7-10 but it’ll still use 1-6 as needed, that’s why it downshifted still
@@thedirtheadshed also, the stability control has two modes. One press of the traction control button only disable traction control. If you push and hold the button, it’ll disable traction control and stability control
96mph limited. My 97 460 is limited to 96. So was my 2010 Raptor. I don’t know how the 10 speed is but the six speed in my 2011 5.0 truck stays in gear better when I put it in manual mode. I noticed that you had it in D instead of M.
Man, you are all over the place with this video and it’s great! I recently ditched the stock muffler on my f150 for a magnaflow and it sounds great. Not terribly loud but more rumble. I left the stock resonator on because I’ve made the mistake of removing them in the past and ended up with a horrible droning on the highway. Now after looking inside of the one on your truck, i wonder if i should lose the stock resonator and go with something less restrictive. I guess theres only one way to find out! I’m jealous of the great mountain bike trails you have too. I’m just trying to get out and hike more since we don’t have many bike trails.
Just remember circle is a shape..I call myself a flab-o-lanch..but really 54 and down 15+ pounds really does help you breathe better. Who would have thought..Love the 7.3.
I was under the impression that perforated straight through mufflers had more turbulence and created a restriction. I use the knock off (sometime branded) flow masters with the v type chambers. Some say a good performance reverse flow moves more exhaust than a cherry bomb, but I have never had access to a Dyno to test. My butt Dyno is unreliable as I am influenced by the audio.
@@thedirtheadshed I'll have to look for that one...unless you know what season episode it was. I can pull them off the the D flavor platform now. Glad you got some good results, was for sure that resonator.
Get back in shape. It makes riding your dirtbike better too. Especially getting your core strong. I was wondering how long it would take before you started playing with the dually..lol.
You missed the obligatory straight pipe rev after you cut the resonator off. I like to start and rev it after welding each piece. . Y pipe.. mufflers.. and tailpipe.

This assumes the collector and stock tubing back affects the power negatively by creating a super long collector.
Huh?
Dave: You made a super amount of power for using parts you already had and you didn’t ruin the sound. A kit probably wouldn’t do any better. Hopefully, it doesn’t drone. It is possible that there is a little more power to be had. The collector/secondary length tuning is the place to concentrate on in a purpose built exhaust; however, that wouldn’t suit your stated goals (cost, messing with cats) Perhaps cutting the exhaust after the cats and putting a turn down would be the next best thing and would make slightly more power than your setup. That would be cheap, but it would suck. What I was trying to say was a homemade expansion chamber in place of the glass pack you installed, would make the exhaust act like it was cut off at the cats without fumes, would keep your sound and would still be cheap. v/r wh
Next time you’re out at Beacon let me know. That’s my home trail system and I can show you around.
Right on. Thanks
Great video btw!
It definitely is not like. When we were in 7/8 grade riding at cactus park.
Phillip!! Wassup dude? Been a long time
I'd like to see how my EFI 460 with 3" all the way out with an RV Magnaflow does on the dyno.
Those run well
I love that Hard-body
It’s a good one!
Dave, if you put it in “M” mode it will hold the gear you select. Leaving it in drive how you did it, just locks out gears 7-10 but it’ll still use 1-6 as needed, that’s why it downshifted still
Yep. .obviously I’ve never messed around with all that. Need to learn the tricks
@@thedirtheadshed also, the stability control has two modes. One press of the traction control button only disable traction control. If you push and hold the button, it’ll disable traction control and stability control
Dave, how did you not start and listen to the truck at every stage? Cut off, "resonator", then final.
FYI turbos make pretty good mufflers 😂
Haha. I thought about it for sure. But it was so sketch on the lift I didn’t want to chance it
MPI has the best cat-back exhaust system.
I’ll look into it. Thanks
96mph limited. My 97 460 is limited to 96. So was my 2010 Raptor. I don’t know how the 10 speed is but the six speed in my 2011 5.0 truck stays in gear better when I put it in manual mode. I noticed that you had it in D instead of M.
Yeah. Kinda lame
Great episode Dave!
Thanks. Glad you liked it
Just remember circle is a shape..I call myself a flab-o-lanch..but really 54 and down 15+ pounds really does help you breathe better. Who would have thought..Love the 7.3.
Yep. If I can lose 15 I’ll be stoked
Awesome video Dave!!
Glad you liked it
Awesome video Dave
Thanks Mark
COOL results for minor upgrade. What's next?
Clean and fluid film under there to keep the rust away
Great video Dave ,
Thank you
And now I have to do this to my tacoma..but I am a better grinder than welder...workin' on it.
You’ll figure it out
Nice ! Free hp and torque!
It worked out well!
Mountain bikes are the best!
So good. More of that really soon
Yeah. Seems like engine masters was the only place to find real numbers
@@thedirtheadshed I'll have to look for that one...unless you know what season episode it was. I can pull them off the the D flavor platform now. Glad you got some good results, was for sure that resonator.
This mountain biking stuff looks like a rush I might have to go try something like this
It’s a blast
That Y pipe is the MVP here. You could just replace that first resonator and get great results, and it doesn't sound like a fart machine.
It’s easy to see. After the fact
@@thedirtheadshed Hind sight is 20/20
You should put a tip on that. 3in to a 4.5 out
Keeping it a sleeper
Get back in shape. It makes riding your dirtbike better too. Especially getting your core strong. I was wondering how long it would take before you started playing with the dually..lol.
I’m not gonna do much with it…
Nice! I wonder what kind of power this 7.3 with headers and programmer would bring to the table.
40 pound feet of torque only with better flow👍
I was blown away at that number
You missed the obligatory straight pipe rev after you cut the resonator off. I like to start and rev it after welding each piece. . Y pipe.. mufflers.. and tailpipe.
This thing was so sketchy on the lift I just wanted to get it done
I love mountain biking!
Me too
..... the STEVES and David are all EFI crazy Engine Masters .. that 7.3 would make a great ENGINE MASTERS upgrade and a Roadkill Garage install .. you just have to reside in the fact Steve might have it on the farm for a couple of years .. lol
Haha. True. I think I’ll keep it at my shop
@@thedirtheadshed nice job on the 4 link with David ..those ready made brackets are sweet
i always tell people the best place to store a cutoff wheel is on the floor, because that,s where they end up, cool day ,thank you
That’s no lie
Dude, I use ride my bike everywhere when I was a kid. As an adult, trying to keep up with my kid now is like nothing before. My legs are always dead.
I know the feeling
