They’d probably do better if the secondary guns could track multiple enemies at the same time.
I was thinking that too.
There not using all the gun if they did they would have done better
I would also think that the ships own AA would also help with smaller targets (I’ve never played very much war Thunder) but I think that AA are more effective with the player vs AI targeting
I can see that. I feel like it would work much better if Gaijin introduced multi-player vehicles so that it is easier to manage the various subsystems
Secondary guns already can track several opponents at the same time, you daft muppet. They just have to be under auto AI control rather than the player. However, these players weren't doing that, for whatever stupid reason.
I suppose the ideal battleships to have for a challenge like this are the "newer" battleships, not because they're newer, but because they have more AA guns. A North Carolina would probably have an easier time mowing down all the smaller craft with their 40 mm Bofors and 20mm Oerlikons.
Idk, if only the secondary armament could track independently lol
@@georgeheld1901 it does lol
@@admiral_alman8671 he's probably talking about tracking multiple targets at once instead of one, which probably would help
@@evanarjames yes
Using 16" star shells against the smaller torpedo boats was a trick used, similiar to using canister or grape shot. If that was allowed in game, the kill count would have been higher.
If and when Gaijin adds the really big battleships like Bismarck, Iowa, and Yamato, I would like to see this done again. An excellent video as always.
I think bismarck and yamato is in game but it's controlled by AI
@@Vincent98987 whaaa!
@@Vincent98987 the ships do exist but he ment actual player controlled which the Bismarck and tirpitz in the CDK has several actual models for. Won't come at the moment my guess waiting or more modeling is required.
Yamato especially would be interesting, as her torpedo protection was extremely heavy, and she also had a metric shit-ton of 25mm autocannons
@@lordsylph414 and don't forget the legendary canon that sink an island with one salvo
Killing torpedo boats with the battleships main Canons is like using a long sword to cut cucumber.
"yo dawg can i get some icecream?"
"only a spoonful"
*proceeds to pull out comically large spoon almost half the size of a human*
Or using an R-60 against a TBD-1
@@Germangamer-gn9ks That reminds me of wine glasses which are capable of holding a full bottle of wine (750 ml)-“one glass” lol
Except thats doable...
There's a reason small torpedo boats spawned an entirely new line of ships specifically to counter them.
Torpedo boat destroyers or just destroyers for short... Sound familiar?
Honestly not even mad about not having the players pov. felt like a movie and honestly kinda liked it. 10/10
@Nicolas Vera Agreed!
The camera work in this is amazing! It looks like something out of a movie
It does make sense the torpedo boats did so well as they were designed to sink battleships. That's the reason destroyers were invented as they could protect the battleships with their guns which could track the small boats.
1:03 the amount of pain saying "The Iconic USS Arizona" to describe Wyoming brings me is immeasurable, and my day is ruined.
Otherwise fun vid :P
If I were to go about this as the battleships, you'd want one with as many anti-air guns as possible. Against those small torpedo boats, a full canon is too slow, the rapid-fire AA autocannons is what you really need. Any WWII configuration ship would be your best choice, but specifically, late-war American ships that had autocannons bolted to any free bit of deck. This is probably more than anything what saw the BB players improve as the rounds went on, as in War Thunder Scharnhorst and Kongo both are in their WWII configurations, while Wyoming is in her WWI configuration, and thus are covered in Autocannons.
Arizona finally replacing Wyoming in the final round wouldn't have changed much since she never got auto-cannon spam due to Pearl Harbor, and arguably may have been worse due to her longer main battery reload making her less capable of dealing with the destroyers.
Yeah I messed up but thanks
As one of the torpedo boats, we pesky bees have demonstrated the strength in numbers as we crushed countless titans of the sea before going down in a blaze of glory, long live the torpedos.
(Also the filming process in my experience was kinda lengthy as for some dumb reason someone decided that it was a funny idea to cap the base, to the point where the employment of a "Decapper", aka a destroyer was a thing)
There were suggestions for the employment of destroyers (Full name being "Torpedo Boat Destroyers") but since this is a BB vs Torp Boaty match, I guess a "proper" match up will have to be done at a later date, and I really wished that the filming is done at like 4 PM US Mountain Time as I live in Australia (Sydney, NSW) (It's 10:15 A.M. at the time I wrote this)
Thank you for joining. Being it was my first naval vid too there was a bit of a learning curve on my end
yo same here buddy (down under)
Thank you for doing my idea!
I do feel that the destroyers did mess it up a little bit, but still good!
Just goes to show how deadly a swarm of small, fast torpedo boats are to a large battleship
I'd like to see a run where it was 1 battleship, 1 light cruiser, and two destroyers
yeah this is pretty much what happened to the russian fleet during the battle of tsushima. big guns did hit hard but the torpedo boats also did a tonne of damage
@@Necrodermis I mean yeah, according to the Russian vessel Kamchatka, those Japanese torpedo boats were attacking the Russian fleet all the way in the North Sea! So even beyond physical damage they sure dealt out an extreme level of psychological and morale damage to the Russians😂
And this is why destroyers were created.
NOt too surprised, destroyers were created to keep packs of small fast attackers off of the big ships that would have a hard time targeting small fast movers
Alright someone has to say it...that first battleship wasn't Arizona. Arizona was a Pennsylvania class battleship and had four turrets, two fore two aft, with three guns each the turrets separated evenly by the superstructure consisting of two tripod masts. The ship you were filming was a Wyoming Class battleship easily identified by it's six two gun turrets (two fore, two center, two aft) with the towers separating the turrets into three sections.
Then again, someone probably already mentioned (and Arizona was present in the final battle, so maybe you were just referring to the wrong clip? Arizona was the last one to go down for reference) this and the video was otherwise great.
I can’t believe it took this long to find someone that said it
It would be cool if Arizona had the paint scheme she had at the time of her being sunk.
You said it so I didn't have too. Something felt off though with the video. A distinct lack of AA firing at the pt boats. 3rd battle edit, nevermind lots o dakka going out
Well atleast someone said it
It would be intressting to see how many reserve or br 1.0 planes it takes to destroy a Battleship
I mean there’s that rank 1 us bomber that Carrie’s a 2000lb bomb or the tbd devistator
I was thinking how many planes armed with large cannons 50mm and above would it take to take out a small group of light cruisers.
@@BIGmlems honestly it just wouldn’t work out it’d be smarter to use rockets or atgms the 50mm guns wouldn’t be able to hit anything critical except maybe a wildly lucky shot to a magazine but if I had to guess probably upwards of 6
@@BIGmlems sorry I thought you were talking about a destroyer not cruisers I’m guessing if the cruiser group is 3 it’s gotta be around 90
@@trentbyington5957 50mm, 75m, or the 102mm guns. Wasn't specifically going for the 50mm alone.
Just think how frightening it would be to be a small PT boat charging a Battleship, staring down ten or more 12-14" guns as their shells fly overhead. It would be terrifying.
Or 9 16 " guns in the case of the American fast battleships
Or 9 18" on the Yamamotos
Please Do more ship battles this was awesome
Thanks for this which as a navy player and knowing my ships and boats the result doesn't surprise me as the torps are meant for large capital ships.
Baby sharks doo doo da doo...
Would of been fun to see the aerial view from a plane
They could have won with two battleships if they had paid more attention to the small boats cause they can set there big guns to target the destroyers and manually use there secondary’s to kill the small boats since they probably have better aim then the AI which would have lead to then getting hit less by torpedos and thus giving them the chance they need to win
But good job tho regardless
We didn’t get the time to finish the second battle cause someone captured the point 😒
From the way the two ships are set up, they didn't fight two battleships. They fought a battleship twice. The Wyoming was consistently blocking the Scharnhorst's line of fire.
I don't think you can set the primary weapons to target and fire automatically
A smile comes to my face whenever you upload
#scam
I really appreciate your content
Always new and existing battles
Keep up the good Work!
the ship in the first battle is the Wyoming 12x 12" guns in 6 double turrets. the Arizona features 12x 14" guns in 4 triple turrets
How to win: “Gunners are searching for surface targets.”
That's why Battleships need screen ships
If the "Battle Off Samar" is anything to go by then it takes a few tin can destroyers, a captain with tungsten testicles the size of a 1940's Buick, and a charge that'd make the Light Brigade go "Whoa now, that's a bit suicidal". Don't know about sinking but definitely made the Yamato flee in terror.
Splendacular video! Great work Muffin!!
Now this is what you call an ASMR video
Battleship players didnt know how to use the ranging shot mode to fire individual main cannon rounds and also did not set secondaries and AA to AI control so they would fire independently. In addition they shouldve used airburst shells for the secondaries as their AOE damage could damage multiple small boats.
Whenever I get swarmed by the small torpedo boats in War Thunder. I usually just switch to the autocannons and aim them myself. And then do some drifting on the water to avoid the storm of torps.
i love this
Not the Arizona it’s the Wyoming
Oh shoot
I don't have the Arizona yet so I can't say for certain, but I know that on the Texas the best to use against ships smaller then a light cruiser are the high explosive shells from the main guns which glow red while in flight. The green which I saw from this video were armor piercing shells which are ok for destroyer, but mainly need to be used against cruisers or other battleships. Auxiliary guns can use either, but for gun boats high explosive are best since you only need to kill crew.
Never realised how huge battleships are!
Why does the audio cut out?
6:10 I was honestly quite surprised I survived here.
You lucky I missed that shot lol
@@WARHOG. hey man, I was taking on water, a fire, and everything else man, I immediately averted my corse to behind the islands lmao
I don’t even recall but did I sink you or did you survive?
@@WARHOG. I survived, I barely play naval so I never timed my torpedoes correctly though, but I did fire at you.
Ah ok cause I do remember I got one of the ships close to you, but it could have been a great fight if it carried on longer. Just don’t know why somebody capped the point when there was literally a hair of the ticket left.
Try Battleships with Destroyer support next time to see how that goes
A good challenge to try would be to find what the largest vessel that land vehicles could reasonably damage and then do that vessel vs massed land vehicles.
I think Round one would've been a bit more interesting if you'd used the Sevastopol (Parizhya Kommuna), heavy torpedo protection like the Arizona, but it also has a lot of 76, 37, and 12.7mm autocannons. Arizona has excellent torpedo bulges, but she's only got her 14-in, 5-in, and 3-in guns,
Homie your video have had a massive glow up since earlier this year keep up the work
ive been waiting for this
If the muzzle blast of the main guns was modeled then those PT boats hugging the sides would get turned into mulchwood lol.
Cool, maybe for future videos is swarm of small boats or ships against modern warships, or sort of ww2 battleships against modern warships, if ever happened, just curious about that
THUNDER MUFFIN UPLOAD HYPE
Good job on the sound effects
Gonna be bias here but I’d place my bets on the British DreadNaught hands down
I suggest submarines vs aircraft carriers. The submarines will need skill to sink the CVs, the carrier/carriers will also need skill to launch and land craft seamlessly.
Neither of those are in the game..
If someone wants to known, the music at 12:21 Is "Titan" by Scott Buckley
Yep
I can tell this will be a good one
If those small ships had missles they would be better.
3 Battle Ships vs 10 destroyer escorts and a few dive bombers
I been waiting for this video 😊
I really thought the Arizona would win in the beginning, and yes I'm saying that just because I'm from Arizona 😂 love the video tho
Now that all the april fools events vehicles are back, can you do a video of the Minotaur from Warfare 2077 against current top-tier and the FV4005?
I need to see how effective that ablative and reactive armor really is, and how oppressive those fire-and-forget missiles are against tanks with poor APS
how can we get them
@@footchess387 mods or customs
@@keilerbie7469 do you have an example of a mod pls ?
And this is why an entirely new class of ship was made to escort the battleships.
Torpedo boat destroyers or just destroyers for short (sound familiar?)
Wow.... who could have guessed just like real life... A mass of small, expendable units that hit hard out do the big expensive and slow stuff? (as much as i love heavy tanks and battleships) There's a reason torpedo boats brought about new classes of ships and why the advent of naval air power completely removed the relevance of others.
I guess the problem with this is that the innovation of the dreadnought battleships was that they were designed to rely on a fleet to defend themselves against small boats
I'm the one who requested this!!!! Thanks muffin ❤️❤️❤️
Nice vid !
I don’t play naval but this is pretty amazing
Next suggestion sir muffin 😅 battleship then swarm of torpedo planes
Did the challenge brief include that modern BB's were not allowed to use, or even manually aim their secondaries? I saw not a single machinegun bullet leave the scharn.
so cinematic !!!
I bet my Andrea Doria would have done really good in this with all the auxiliary cannons.
Was the first destroyer that made the mistake of trying to broadside the battleship
Should of had the Alaska with all the AA
I like that at the first round you said the USS Arizona when it the USS North Dakota😂
gaijin should put a mode like this
Gonna be honest if the first bb actually had it’s aux n secondary’s on to help fight they would have one cause in the end if multiple ships are near u the aux n secondary’s will target different ships so idk if it was set to not shoot ships on purpose but it seemed really unfair yes big bbs are deadly but against 45 with guns that take a bit to reload your at a disadvantage massively even against reaserve
“The iconic uss Arizona “ then this guy pulls up in a Wyoming class battleship
I love to call my favourite battleship as a sea monster
actually, this is a real tactic for torpedo boats as they can use their numerical avantange to win. the thing that why the battleships eventually sank in that their gun reload is too slow and the small ships hitbox too small
I'm surprised there weren't more schnell boats of the ls 3 variety.
I wish gaijin will add newer battle ships like Yamato, Iowa, bismarck, king george V battle ships
I don’t know what’s goin on but the sound has been cut out for over half the video. Other that that, great video!
Did the battleship player have ai targeting on for naval targets? Didnt see the secondaries or aa go off
Would LOVE to see a swarm of PR 1124 (without rockets) take on a flotilla of Japanese battle ships
This video is basically the accurate representation ofthe sinking of the Austro-Hungarian capital ship at the end of ww1 done by Italian torpedo boats
This was a fun event. I could not hit a PT boat to save my life.
what a movie!!
Kronshtadt, shanhorst and Alaska is a deadly team, becos they have good AA capabilities, faster reload and can eat multiple torpedoes.
I know im probably gonna sound like im complaining but videos like this are exactly why the us needs bbs that actually have some aa because every nation bar the us has one and the alaska isnt a battleship technically im talking about a proper bb as in a refit standard type or one of the later fast ones
This happened because the battleships can’t split fire secondaries if it could it would single target each with as secondary and kill all of them
Still not a win. Destroyers were created specifically for protecting battleships from Torpedo boats.
@@tetraxis3011 that’s for ww1 dreadnoughts with only case mated secondaries and no aa
Hey Muffin. I would like to see in future naval videos a small information text Like "enemy pov" becouse In many moments packed with perspective changes and action I wasn't sure if Im looking at enemy reserve ship or at hight tier battleship. Cheers
In all honesty, in a real match, two to three. They can carry torpedoes, and they could sneak up on the big ship.
I was hoping it was going to be the Yamato, Bismark, or Iowa class battleship. Do the next one with these three battleships.
>"In the iconic USS Arizona
Someone wanna tell him that's not the Arizona in the first round or the second? Finally did show up in the third, though.
And the issue with battleships is that itll take so long for their guns to turn that motor topeeo ships cam easily evade
ww2 italians sending their strongest fleet:
On battleship scale it functions effectively like a health point system, except instead of health you have number of crew still alive
Not really,I mean you still have modules and buoyancy
You are welcome
Get dollarplays to do be the battleship player. Really great player for naval.
Or even napalmrat
BB aren't meant to be alone That's why DD and CC exist to protect her
Idk what you expected but topedoboats were made to kill battleships AND YOU MADE HIM FACE 45 That just torture man
3:42 bro just chilling
I love your videos and I'm still a newbie
By the way how did u level up so fast?
I’m not supposed to say lol but it also helped that I’m a CC of WT
Ohhhh ok
@@Peridot7498 i noticed you level up way more faster when you unlock multiple vehicles,i was stuck at 60 lvl then I started grinding US jet and went up to 100
@@stevenortiz9008 thx so much
i think scharnhorst was a good pick since ive seen it take over 40 torpedoes and not sink
This is why you need torpedo boat destroyers.
Nice naval battle
Hell yeah!
the gun sound is alot better than world of warships
Allmost everything here is better than in WoW
IMO, unless every turret can track a target and each barrel can be fired individually with its own elevation, this will never represent the true power of a battleship. You gotta remember there's a whole gun crew per barrel, and that is true for ALL the guns. So you need to give a lot of that ability to players playing these massive warships, otherwise it isn't fair or realistic at all.
