    My friend's 130lb Rottweiler must be the exception; super chill with visitors & out in public, strong enough to pull a wheelchair if needed but gentle enough to pick items off the floor, & focused enough to work as a service dog AND compete in high level obedience. The complete Rottie! 🐶♥️

  • @billstewart4980

    That's why you train the dog to not chase the mailman or birds. Most importantly, when you train the dog, every family member is present and practice the command as well. Letting the dog know where they fall in the family hierarchy.

    • @billstewart4980
      @billstewart4980 21 день тому +1

      Come on, man. You took the words right out of my mouth. Who in there right mind would get a 130 lb dog and have no control over it. I agree with you 100%. Especially when it comes to the hierarchy. That's how dogs operate. Who's the ALPHA, and if you don't let them know where they fall, they will place themselves right behind the ALPHA. You and I are tracking my friend. Those aren't good reasons to own one of the best dogs ever.

    Extremely territorial indeed. This includes introducing new animals to the household. I got bad vibes from a Rottie and advised the owner against getting a new puppy her heart was set on. Within it's 1st week the Rottie found it's opportunity and attacked the puppy. A trip to the hospital wasn't enough to save it.

      I had one, too. Him and his siblings had barely any of the stereotypes, and all of them had a deep love for children and the elderly
      Mine was good with kids as young as 6 months and paid no mind to tail pullers and rocker throwers under six, but the closer you got to your teens, the less patience he had. He did love the town drunks though and would warn the entire town if he found anyone passed out in the snow refusing to leave them until someone who smelled like them got by

      The socialization part is very important for every dog but guard dogs in particular if you want them to be social. Cant take them enough with you. This with some decent obedience makes the perfect familymember and family guard in one :) Even when sweet they can turn guard mode ina heartbeat

      A well raised Rottweiler is amazing. They're highly reliant on communication, though, and if you don't socialize them and don't regelurly confirm that you understand them they can cause a lot of harm well before you can make it over to scold them

  • @thehotboywalking
    @thehotboywalking Рік тому +525

    My boy is 1.5. I got the dog that LOVES every person and is also selectively fearful of the simplest of weirdest things (chairs, vaccums, the hair dryer, getting in beach/pool water) even though he does a LOT personally fine (riding onboard a plane, big jumps, riding in the truck) Trainers tell me that protection training a dog with that personality would make him a liability. He would protect me if someone really came at me with ILL intent but I don’t want him to wait until someone puts hands on me to do so. I’ve learned to accept that I got the loving friendly, dopey pup even though he isn’t the aggressive/protective guard dog I wanted.
    He’s spot on about their attention span. They bore quickly with everything so being able to switch it up multiples times a day is important if you want a happy, stimulated, and tired dog who isn’t going to be destructive and problematic.
    THE HARDEST part nobody seems to talk about with Rottweilers is that they are THE MOST CLINGY dog breed ever. They want to be around you 24/7 and need a lot of your attention to avoid becoming destructive. If you want a dog that just lounges around and chills while you live life, this isn’t the best breed for you.

    • @stormyjames5557
      @stormyjames5557 Рік тому +21

      My female is the exact same way!
      Scared of weird stuff, fine with stuff I expected to be a problem; definitely has doggo ADD; and is clingy af!
      And you're right, a rottie will never just lounge around and chill while you go live life.
      They will however lounge ON YOU whenever you sit down to relax! Especially if you try to sit on the floor.
      And no they do not care how much they're crushing you! 🤣
      (And yeh I know I could train her to not do that, but I don't want to, keeps me cozy when it's cold. Lol)

      @@am_iconicit’s not for first time dog owners, there’s things the media tells you that is completely wrong. You can’t know everything unless you’ve had one. The butterfly thing is wrong for my Rotty, he protects and he’ll deprive himself of sleep to do so. They are very hard to handle and stubborn, one time he messed up his paw and we had no idea until we saw the blood on the floor, they have very high pain tolerance. Just things to keep in mind before getting one, they are working dogs and if they don’t have a job don’t get one, you need a reason to have one and “just to protect the house” is not a good enough reason. I’m not saying don’t get one, just be careful.

    Rottweile/ black lab mixed female. Best dog ever. We got her from a shelter and she was throughly ruined at 4 months old. Beaten to almost paralyzed with fear and then dropped off on a weekend drop box at the local shelter and never picked up. I wanted a Rottweiler so bad and my dad said no. We went to the shelter and she was there. This big fur ball or love with terror behind her eyes. We took her home and loved her for the next 13 years. She grew to be a 110 pounds of chubbster! She never got over her fears. She would jump at the slightest noise. She was amazing in all ways. A lap dog til the end, and a true guardian. A bark that would send shivers down your spine and a smile that would fix your day. We lived in south Florida with tropical storms every afternoon. Lightning and thunder are tye only sound that didn't frighten her. It was so weird, the walls would tremble and painting would rattle from the booming 💥 thunder and her fat ass wouldn't budge. My God if you dropped a pencil on the floor she was on her feet in an instant scared to death. Poor baby. Rocki bird was her name and she was the shiznit.

      I couldn’t recommend a Japanese mastiff any more. They’re the perfect dog to have at home for protection as long as someone shows who the alpha is. If you let them they will definitely be the alpha of the home which is not good. But as long as there’s someone at home with a alpha presences they are the best dog in the world of you ask me, at least as a family protector. I’ve worked with dogs my entire professional life and have worked with everything from a Pomeranian to actual wolfs. I used to live out in the country on a little farm and I had a Tosa that single handedly scared off entire packs of coyotes while my Doberman and pit bull ran in the house. He’s nearly killed a few of them (certainly would of if I didn’t show up to drag him off the poor thing) I honestly needed to just kill all those coyotes myself because they where always a problem but I just didn’t have the heart to kill them.

    I was raised with 3 rots. The first was a sweetiepie lazybug that was scared of his own pool. He would sit patiently with me while i was learning to read for him. The second was a sweet, protective, competative and clever girl who would steal toys from the others and hide them. She was very protective and empathetic, including laying across doorways at night and alert barks for the door. The only aggression i saw was for squirrels, which she assumed were toys and abandoned when she realized they werent (usually too late). The last was the only one who had issues with aggression, and its no surprise when we found out previous owners had abused him. He was fiercely protective of the house itself, and would become nervous-aggressive barky when he saw big trucks or running/motion. He was also the most selective, and had a single Favorite Person Ever plus a dislike of men. Even with showdog training, this one was always a bit more tightly wound and vigilant. He took his house and family Very Seriously. He had this look he'd give us when joggers ran by like "dad, they wanna fight us, can i gettem?? please??" And then his back legs would come out and we'd have to say "ok, thank you, smart boy. please sit now." Long story short, every rot ive ever had has been The Best, Most Perfect dog ever ❤ they know family and great cuddlers.

    Mine surprisingly doesn’t bark at the door or doorbell but he does let us know and stand guard for it. If he doesn’t hear the door open or someone like a kid or the wife sneaks in the house he does go ballistic until he figures out it’s his people, and if the door is left open he investigates and will huff and mini bark to let us know something just isn’t right. Hopefully it means we’ve been doing something right thanks to your videos! He is also a back cross from a cane corso so his grandpa is cane corso and dad 50/50 and the rest of him is purebred rottie so I wonder sometimes if the cane corso in him has something to do with some of his better behavior and lack of the doggy adhd. P.S. been trying to educate my family in alerting the dog to their presence as per your videos stating breeds like cane corso can sometimes bite first and ask questions later! Sometimes it’s a bigger challenge training the family than it is the dog!

    We have a rottie :) 3 years olg in a few days.
    I'm very strict with my training, he is socialized 100%, never to answer the provocation, and he is very friedly to strangers. He really is like a retriver. Nobody who met him can belive how friendly he is. And we wanted that. He is not permited any agresive behavior. We even tested him with strangers at two year old, we left the apartment for a half an hour and than our two friends went inside without us and he was all tail waging, licking and everything good. But WE WANTED him to be FRIENDLY AND NOT PROTECTOR. We wanted a pet :) and he is perfect :)
    But I could never give him to another person, people ask me to take him all the time, but without constant training, I dont think he would be so friedly. He is of champion working line, he's father won world champion in Germany last year, and mother is also excellent working dog. He's sibiling also compete, but he is just out pet ❤😊
    But he is heavy, he has 48kg, so I trained him to respond to gesticulations and voice commands, because if you try to make him fiscally do something or go somewhere he doesn't want, good luck with that 😅.
    I really like your methods, mine are very similar, I also use e-collar to pressure him (as you said) to do the right thing, just like with a leash.
    Any dog can be trained, what people need to take into consideration is their character. What is important that even if they are perfectly trained, if they have short fuse, you can't live them unsupervised. But with good, friendly character, it is going to be much easier. Same as in people, you can naag somebody 3 days in a row and they wont say a thing, but you look somebody wrong and that person reacts instantaneously. Same thing with dogs, if you choose good character dog it saves you a lot of headache. 😊❤
