I definitely agree. This can even be said for harsh vocals in general. Thrash vocals would be like adding distortion, while death metal tunes it really low and puts that distortion in.

@sea12hawks45 I was gonna say, "What one album?" Until I looked it up and realized George wasn't in the band until 95, and Vile was his first album. Just to me the first album has such a different sound, thought for sure corpsegrinder started on the second album. I love all the albums though. I kind of fell off after Kill but still check them out once in a while.

I've always thought it's a genre that can fit perfectly B horror movies.
The difference between violent lyrics in (most) Rap music and the violent lyrics in Death Metal is that in Rap; Rappers actually condone their violent lyrics and try to encourage their fans to commit crimes, whereas violence in Death Metal is just for entertainment purposes no different than watching a Horror movie. That's how I see it.

Cannibal Corpse, and other extreme bands, allow people to just unleash pent up tension that builds up in everyday life. I've been lucky enough to see Cannibal Corpse live many times and I've always met the nicest, most down to earth people at these shows. In my everyday life, I'm a husband and a father of three children. I work an overnight shift and I'm a daddy taxi, lunchmaker, and homework helper during the day. When I go to a show I let it all hang out and just go off! I have fun, along with my fellow metalheads and I feel great after. It's a healthy outlet for me.
If the death metal and sacred gore growl artists are side-eyed or sussed about the anti human stink-crawler underground celebrity rot scene that made kids do gross evil stuff cause someone played command and conquer on the quantum computer during the gov shutdown in ‘18 and the UK and America accidentally brainwashed their intelligence community by obsessing about figuring out Nazi cyphers and using extraterrestrial signal scan specturm radio weapons to tune in to Kabbalah codes for how to bust goat ghosts with laser eyes and forgot the proper classification clearance protocols for the files on the fetish sex parties in catacombs and discreet underground military bases.
Didn’t anyone realize that during the time they were obsessing over trying to decode the stupid enigma cypher before England/America or America/England or Russia/England China/Canada/America solved the sequence code for what the aliens said to Hitler or whatever…while they were busy with the enigma, a bunch of Nazi glamor boys and the first crop of remote control characters were getting put into position for the 1960-current top brass execs in gov and industry and setting up shop in the entertainment industry…literally starting huge film studios.
I mean, it was probably a Nazi that told them they better study the code until they figured it out - by which time the priorities of government had been programmed for the lurching foulness of broken death-marches to a dominion of inhuman people who are actually on-board with being totally demonic and cannot do anything other than be disgusting predators that bring total ruination to everything they touch.
Fortunately, they touch themselves and I’m hoping they will rot extra fast soon cause the heat is on since the dumbass car-factory and black gold drilling green lawn in Vegas even if they dont ever go outside and so Earth is tipping over…
Gross deranged criminals who are too dumb not to get brainwashed by AI or Nazi space signals brought back by homesick and pissed off chimpanzees wearing astronaut suits full of no-gravity defecation whose descendants now have neuralink and can read minds to plot Animal Farm against 1984 thanks to gamers who want to be the matrix cause they’ve never been outside and don’t know that Earth isn’t a simulation…well, those gross lurching bodies of pure rotting tragedy better not make anyone fail to respect and appreciate the actual humans who actually are really good regular people who like the growl of angry death and the for-real musicians who do sacred work of venting the howls of the disgraced dead and the anger of all Justice gods who hate brutality with the heaviest of hammers.
If Hollywood tries to throw their bloody balenciaga bag or stained off-whites into the death metal laundry basket…man, I hope there is a massive wave of death metal guys in their 50s who are like dads who work machinist jobs or own small landscaping businesses and the new generations of metal nerds who won’t even eat chicken if the texture is weird and moist, stringy or with weird juices. I mean, c’mon - ain’t no actual metal head kids gonna eat no gross weird meat or homemade burgers that have a weird smell.
Not every song has to have a beautiful story. Art doesn't have to always have good stuff happening on their story. It's like horror movies, you don't watch because you think it's beautiful to see people being killed or tortured, you watch because it's a good movie and you like it, it makes you feel scared and at the same time entertained and the story is captivating idk? I see it in this way.
It's like the difference between a Norman Rockwell painting and a Hieronymus Bosch painting.
One is friendly and wholesome and the other is a glimpse of the macabre.

I appreciate them for their consistency, been almost 4 decades rockin' out and still going hard. That's some real dedication. They're one of my favorite Death Metal bands for that reason alone 🤘🤘

From a musical standpoint this band is absolutely mindblowing. A lot of folks don't realize that there is a ton of odd time signatures in their music, on top of the crazy technical riffs and rhythms. This band could almost be considered a horror metal extreme prog band! Corpse for life!
Cannibal Corpse are an amazing band and phenomenal writers musically and lyrically.
They are not condoning what's being said, they are writing horror stories in musical for.

After graduating last year and then working at McDonald’s all through out high school going to see cannibal corpse was therapy to me like I get rid of all the crap from school and work and just see a good show for that hour and feel relaxed

When I read Dismembered and Molested at my college poetry night, they all cried from how moving the lyrics were. True story.
Their lyrics are insane but DM dudes are among the nicest most humble people youll ever meet.
I took it seriously enough to get into a death metal band and have to be succumbed to the endless dread of being a metal musician haha thank you Cannibal Corpse and Ace Ventura, Corpegrinder and the gang have my undying loyalty and love for life.

Corpse are always one of those bands that I can never listen to a full album, but there are key songs from each one are fantastic. But I've always loved that while they take themselves 'seriously' as he says here, they're also always at least a touch tongue in cheek.

That's the whole point. It's so over the top that it becomes comical. I used to try to explain that to my parents (a million years ago)... I don't care about the lyrics, it's the incredible musicianship behind the lyrics I'm paying attention to.
I FINALLY got to see Cannibal Corpse last week in Royal Oak..I now know why they have been around a d popular fir so long! Incredible!

metal to me has always been a way to vent negative emotion thru music (positive means) to then feel positive after venting the aggression. I grew up having anger issues so I learned to control it with music. The music doesn't control my emotions however, I just play and groove to what I feel or want to feel.

Thing is, you can tell they put thought into their lyrics. It's not haphazard or silly, but designed to be intense and to shock the unshockable.
The music is serious, in the sense that is demonstrates serious talent and ability to compose technically complicated yet coherent and musical tracks. The lyrics, on the other hand, aren't "serious" in that they are *not* meant to be taken as serious statements or political or social commentary -- they're essentially the lyrical analogue to horror movies. They operate on a surface level, intending to shock with gruesome, bloody imagery.. But that's all. As was stated, the band certainly doesn't condone any violence.. It's merely entertainment, and meant to provide a little distraction and stress relief in a safe, calculated manner.
Metal calmed me down and helped my anxiety. Slayer being the main one. Some Black metal as well. I don't understand fully. But I think it takes our rage and pain and lets it out or helps us process it. It's a real thing. ❤❤❤

When i was 13 i got into them so needless to say they were there for my entire life all theups and downs. Only seen em 6 times opened for them in2000 in okc with nile. One of the hughlights of my life. Got their autographs tattooed on my cannibal corpse tattoo. They truly have gotten me thru some real shit. Thanks guys. Never quit.
I met Alex back in 2000 and one of the first things he said after he revealed he played bass in cannibal corpse was something like not to take the lyrics too seriously, the band weren't murderers or anything like that. I hadn't heard them at the time, but was somewhat familiar with the album artwork! I always thought he was a decent guy. Polite and pretty chill.🙂🤘
I met Alex back in 2003 on the Worm Infested tour. My best friend and I talked to him for about 30 minutes before the first band opened. Alex is such a cool dude and very easy to talk to.

I love the power and intensity in the music. When you resonate with powerful music you feel powerful. The lyrics are there to filter everyday people out so us weirdos can enjoy the power to ourselves.
