My husband is Indian and loves dosa as do I. I think Indians might cry seeing you eat these with knife and fork 😂
And u would be right. I did shed a few tears seeing that 😂
Cry....i might do genocide...if they do that again
💯 as a India i luaghed seeing them struggling with fork
Exactly and without sambar, coconut chutney, tomato chutney and onion chutney.. 😅😅
Beef dosa is quite good.
Every dosa needs sambar, it makes it so delicious, I’d usually go for a masala dosa, with sambar, and a trio of chutneys (peanut, tomato, coconut) - honourable mention to the mysore dosa.
The dosa is severely underrated worldwide, it should be as popular as other Indian food, yet it’s impossible to get it outside of a couple of places in Dublin.
Kathi rolls and chaat also are sorely missed Indian foods that deserve more popularity.
My local place has chaat, but no dosa😔
Brian, shukria for this info! I’ll look to order that at my local Indian restaurant next time!
Mint chutney is also popular. I tend to go for either a masala or paneer dosa.
maybe i'm tired (ok i am) but i seriously thought you were going to do a parody of "everybody needs somebody" with that every dosa needs sambar...
@@LindaC616 you can buy pre made mix of dosa and simply make at home.. From Asian store
Dosa makes me think of my old college professor who introduced me to Indian dishes. The first thing I had with him was a masala dosa, and I really liked it. 😊 he passed away last year. I miss him.
Rip 😔
What University was it?
He'll always be with you in spirit. Those memories will be around.
have you had peanut chutney?
So long as it wasn't the dosas that killed him.....rest in peace.
I have to admit that watching the try-ers eat these dosas with knife & fork was kinda driving me insane. Thank you Jamie & Niall for understanding that dosas are finger food.
Me too bro, I visibly cringed. Good for the finger food guys.
just so we are clear dosa wasn't made to be eaten by itself, i had some today with chettinad kozhi curry and some potato palya and i swear for a second i locked eyes with the cook and thought yeah i'd divorce my wife for this, it was that good
😂
😂😂😂
I'd divorce your wife for that too. 😁
What’s with the same people over and over ???,…mix it up a little bit ,..where are the Sharpson brothers? What happened to beardBrian and MC ?,..bring back leather jacket guy or we riot!!!!!
aahaha
They really tried to cut plain dosa with fork and knife, anyways if you tried even that in South India you'll be astonished. One of the best breakfast ever.
My wife’s family is from Kerala and when my mother in law visits I could have dosas for breakfast every morning.
@@caseyrogers573 reasons to love your MIL!
@@LindaC616 100%. I’m very lucky
A dosa can only be eaten with the hands, especially the stuffed ones because you’re supposed to tear off a piece of the dosa and use it to grab a bit of filling.
@@donnieboughton1730 ofc anyone CAN but there’s a certain way to eat every food. No one is going and eating tacos with a spoon.
@@donnieboughton1730 ever see a man eat soup with a fork and not thought he was an edjit? Yea…
@@donnieboughton1730 This is a dumb argument. Have some dignity.
@@donnieboughton1730 A people who traditionally eat with their hands developed this food item organically to be eaten the way they eat things. It’s design is very specific to that way of eating it. My comment was in response to how awkwardly some of the reactors went about eating it in a less comparable manner. I wouldn’t even say this about other South Indian food items which are perfectly compatible with cutlery. This item is PARTICULARLY difficult to eat in that manner because of its design. But you’re correct, you won’t get arrested for using a knife and fork. Good contribution!
@@donnieboughton1730 don’t mind them mate. You’re wasting your time. I’m full on Indian af and I eat it with fork and spoon instead. Traditions are great, but that doesn’t mean everyone has to follow it. Everyone is different, pretty sure actual Indians like me couldn’t care less how people are eating it, as long as they’re having a damn good time
It's DOSA-MAN to the rescue!!!
That was sooo funny when you did that. 😂
Don't be a dosa!
Long live Dosa-Man!!! 🦸♂️ 😀 I’m glad I’m not the only one who plays with my food, Paddy! 👍
here is my 2nd comment as you demanded LOL
You know Paddy, I am probably older than you yet you still managed to make me feel like I was a kid, listening to one of my dad's really bad jokes. 🤣 #DosaMan #putamaskonit #cringe
Why the hell didn't Paddy and Grainne get any of the dips of the lentil soup? By the way, when Ghee was first said the look on Grainne's lovely face was so darn cute. She looked like she was going laugh out loud!
They did eventually get the soup. You can see it near the end of the segment.
I’m glad you noticed too!
Sambar!
Love it when the actual name of something plays into Irish slang and the giggles begin. So Try crew is it a Dosa Do or Dosa Don't?
so many "gee" puns
Colin must've been laughing for days
Everyone liking the Masala Dosa and Sambhar makes me so happy! 😄
Made we forget that you’re using forks and knives to eat Dosas 😂
Europeans don't eat with their hands. It's dirty
@@augustschweigeryt559 I have complete confidence that they can clean their hands (as thoroughly as they do utensils) when Irish people eat hand pies, English people eat scones/beans on toast, French people eat baguettes/croissants/charcuteries, Finnish people eat Karelian Piirakka, Spanish people eat tapas, Italian people eat antipasti, German people eat Kartoffelchips, etc.
@@augustschweigeryt559 Dont you guys wash your hands before eating? I have always been curious about it.
@@augustschweigeryt559 dirty ? You can wash hands and does burger, buritto eaten in fork and knife ?
coconut and tomato chutney also taste good along with Dosa
A universal thumb rule. If you have Indian food in front of you, just drop the knife. You don’t need it.
Maybe spoon for some rice or soup. But anything else, you are good with your hands. As long as they are washed and clean.
Dosa with Mint or Coconut Chutney is FANTASTIC!
yes to fresh coconut chutney. awesome!
Mint chutney are you serious brother that's not made for dosa
also tomato chutney
Sambhar should have been there
@@rahilkhan7829 south has a different kind of mint chutney they specifically make for dosa and idly. It tastes super good.
You guys should do Naan next. Garlic Naan with butter chicken will transport you to a whole new taste dimension🤤
They've done naan
Chili n garlic naan whole new level
Love me some keema naan
Cheese and garlic Naan is unbeatable
I had this for the first time today and can 100% confirm lol
Love Indian food, I make great curries, chutneys, Korma's but I don't know how to make Naan or Dosa really want to learn because they are so tasty.
Dosa is actually pretty easy to make. The main thing is to prepare the batter for it. You'd need rice and lentils(Urad dal classically) and let it ferment in the fridge overnight. Some don't even need fermentation, for e.g: Rava Dosa(Semolina Dosa) and can be made with less than an hour's prep time. Naan is actually difficult to make in the authentic way at home cause of the need for a Tandoor oven, hence it being available majorly only in restaurants.
They sound so happy. Is it their accent or are Irish people generally happy all the time?
They are happy all the fucking time, they put so much of effort into speaking
Every time I watch one of the food ones, I get terribly hungry and jealous.
me too😅
WORD
Yep
Except when they have to eat durian or Surströmming. 🤣
@@ms_scribbles Fair point; definitely NOT jealous then, but it is funny the ptsd most of them have from it.
Irish people are so funny and outgoing. Love to Irish people from India ❤ Ireland 🇮🇪 India 🇮🇳
This taught me some Irish slang and that, apparently, the Irish like potatoes.
😂😂 This Irish channel doesn't fail to disappoint... Dosa without sambar is a joke... Plain dosa comes as a thin crispy crape, but onion dosa comes thick as pancake.
The best part about Dosa is how ridiculously fast it's made on the streets.
Somehow, having it made in a restaurant and brought to a studio loses that.
Missing the coconut chutney though.... That's love...😍😍
Jaime & Niall = hilarious fun! 😂😂
I absolutely love how completely immature they (mostly Jamie) 😂became at the mention of Indian clarified butter product. 😂😂😂 I honestly just love this channel ❤🍀❣️
So happy seeing Richard again, and paring him with Damon is genius.
I think you could in theory almost stuff a dosa like burrito, they are great to have. You might like a satay sauce dip with chicken strips or even filled with chilli con carne. Some folk eat them with their hands but cutlery is sometimes useful to have. I think lemon chicken and rice is the best I’ve had so far. I’m not sure how easy they are to make but you could have fun and maybe discover a new talent.
🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 😺
Dosa might be a little too crisp to roll properly, but try a kati roll if you're looking for an equivalent to an Indian burrito.
They all transmitted how delicious it was, especially the last one, thru the TV screen!! I gotta get me one of those asap.
I love that they're playing with their food. As Damon said, classy. 🧐
Dosa man made this video even more worth watching!😂
Love you guys! Keep making these!!!❤
oh finally , i was so waiting for you to do a video of indian food.
I have to admit I enjoyed your videos sooooo much I have liked and subscribed as well as I am doing a Shout out to your channel! Well done to everyone involved!
Jamie is such a poet! My new favorite TRYer!
I live in Trinidad. Half our population is Indian by heritage. I've never seen a dosa. I've only heard of its legend. Thank you, guys.
The indentured Indian population in the carribbean mostly came from the Bengal province which is the North-eastern part of the subcontinent. Dosa was Southern Indian cuisine at that time. Today it's pan Indian.
@@rutvikrsBengal is not Northeast, it's just Eastern. Northeastern states are Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.
@@o0...957 I was talking about the Bengal province under the Brits not West Bengal the state. It included Assam, Bangladesh and parts of the current day NE.
Dear Jamie......I am a Grandma....the 70's, mini skirts, Harley's , fast cars , Grateful Dead concerts....Yea....a grandma with a interesting past
Hey there TRYers, Indian dosa is basically a thin batter pancake of lentils and rice. In other words, an Indian crepe. It comes in over 100 different delicious varieties. Ghee butter is nothing more than unsalted clarified butter (very concentrated butterfat). I've never tried dosa before but I'm looking forward to in the near future. Great video TRYers! 🥞
Indian food is much more than just butter chicken and garlic naan... Every state has its own unique food!! Hope you explore more...
the outro was grand.
I've been waiting for you guys!
love these vids!!!
Dosa-Man said to leave two comments.
Dosa-Man said to leave a comment.
Paddy…killing me….love all of y’all ❤
Y'all are awesome.. much love from Texas
A place about twenty miles away from me serves like an ultimate Dosa selection. The greatest one is a combination Masala and Turmeric shredded paneer Dosa. Just an ultimate cheesy carb on carb magnificence.
Dosa is a mood. So many variations. Have it with coconut chutney, sambar, butter chicken gravy or any indian gravy of your choice.
Now I have to find a place that makes or sells doza.
Another great video
Guys, traditionally we eat it with our fingures. The dosa (Pronounced "thosa") is used to pick up the curry or chutney. (if you get your curry in your palm usually it's considered impolite. (Where I am from)
Why didn't Paddy and Grainne get some of the soup for the last one? I've noticed that occasionally not everyone gets all of the same stuff to try.
Thank god ya'll finally explained ghee you've said it a bunch of time and never said what it is till now , and now i understand why.
Thank you TRY channel -- you just convinced me what I wanted for lunch....
Try'rs y'all rock! I'm here for the algorithm! Peace
It's always good to see the TRYers out of their cultural comfort zone and appreciating unfamiliar things from further afield. Well done all!
Who says it's out of their comfort zone? The Indian population in Ireland is apparently growing. So...
@@TheMrCC21 They're trying to be woke but telling on themselves that they think trying not even all that exotic ethnic food is leaving one's comfort zone.
I love how they always clock the potatoes real quick. I bet their favorite “Try” would be Guinness and some potato dish😂
Ghee is carmelzed butter the normal dosa is potato filled but its the sauces with it that what makes dosa awesome
FYI: Caramelization requires either: (A) Sugar; or (B) Proteins undergoing the Maillard-reaction. Ghee is pure butterfat, with all of the proteins, sugar, and water removed. It darkens in color because the butterfat is being cooked a bit.
Ghee is a sort of clarified butter but it's not exactly a clarified butter but somewhere close.
😂 Dosa Man! Paddy is hilarious! I have never tried a dosa but looking forward to it. I do love Indian food. ❤😋
Dosa with honey inside is delicious 😋
Wish they had a sambar dosa cos that is the nuts
very cool!💕 well done guys
Those two guys eating dosa with hands they're legends respect.👍
Everyone who ate with their hands, you win! I mean, its traditional Indian food. It was designed to be eaten with the hands. No wonder all the knife-and-fork eaters were struggling.
Also, and this has been my issue whenever TRY channel does Indian food...INCLUDE ALL THE ACCOMPANIMENTS! In Indian food, they are not optional components. The dish is designed to be eaten with them - in this case the Chutney and the Sambar should have accompanied all the varieties of Dosas.
Must have been a hot day there. Everyone is glowing!
Masala dosa and sambhar is my go to comfort food . I see the same reaction here too.
i remember Paddy being so shy and well dressed when he first started.. now look at the lad go!!!
If you put Angus beef in it, then it would be a "bull doza", yes?
I'll let myself out.
🤣🤣🤣 Actually, that's a fantastic play on words‼️
Dosa man was brilliant.
I love you guys, always good for a laugh.
And yes, Indian food is fantastic. I am fortunate enough to live in the San Francisco Bay Area, which has one of the highest concentrations of Indians outside of India, and the food is outstanding.
Am glad they all loved it ❤
i love these videos trying new foods, the reactions, the jokes... but i have a bad habit of watching them at night, then they make me want to try some of this stuff, and i'm like, well, i have hot dogs and crackers...
You guys got jipped, there are sooo many different versions of the dosa, and there are desert dosa's as well. Also what happened to the chutney, love the coconut one, mint is good as well. If you guys are ever in Canada I will take you to some dosa restaurants!
Yes Dosa-Man!!!
Jamie is a poet…. I can’t wait to hear how he’ll phrase the most ordinary thing.
You can't say you're a foodie and haven't tried THE INDIAN CUISINE
Indian dishes and food
You need masala, you get it
You need vast flavors in a single bite , you got it
You want veg or non veg or both , you got it
You need mouth watering dishes, you got it
You need heavenly sweets and deserts, you got it
You need street food , you got it
So in short you name it , you got it . You can go full vegetarian without even actually realizing
Any try channel video with Gráinne in it is a winner....
...and now I'm hungry 🤤
There is a restaurant in Jackson Heights, Queens, Dosa Delight. Every time I visit my son and his family, who live in Jackson Heights I eat them. Their dosas are very thin and crispy and are in a long hollow roll shape. The ends go over the sides of the plate. I go for the butter dosa with cheddar cheese. They have a creamy coconut chutney that is excellent.
“XL Eucharist” had me rolling
Don't show this Dosa eating method to a South Indian, there would be some heat coming in your way 🤣
Now as a South Indian, myself I'm going to go crawl back into my Dosa, thanks for the entertaining video
😂 as a South Indian I was thinking the same thing
It is bit challenging to try something beyond comfort zone 😊
So usually we should not expect always good Feedback
What a gem indians eating Irish food video will be
Love the Dosaman bit..
Cool seeing Damon and Richard again.👍👍
Hi Gráinne and the rest of the TRYers! Love your content. Stay awesome
Hey guys its so much fun to watch you all explore Dosas with such curiosity ! I have some facts for you which can help you answer some of your questions.
Dosa is a savoury crepe version, its made using Urad lentils ( white lentils) & rice which are made into batter & fermented as you were told.
It goes best with Coconut Chutney & Sambar ( spicy lentil soup you had at the end ) but people do pair with various chutneys
Dosa is never eaten with fork not due to any traditions but because of inconvenience, You can eat Uttapam ( pancake version of dosa which is thick like pancake )with fork easily
Ghee is clarified butter made by using either Cow or Buffalo milk. The cow ghee is much strong in taste than Buffalo, but the latter is believed to be more nutritious.
The batter used for making dosas can also be used to make Idlis ( savoury steam cakes ) which are equally tasty & have versions too
Next time do try Mysore Masala Dosa its one my favourite versions & is a total blast of taste & flavours
the eating technique is off, but Grainne's look is spot on!
Dosas are eaten like tortillas. No utensils necessary. It was kinda painful watching the awkward dosa cutting 😅
WooHoo! *_The_* South Indian lunch food!
(Or at least, that's what I've been told by South Asian coworkers in the past (I'm a software developer).)
I _love_ dosa!
breakfast. the very best breakfast you can dream of.
Lunch, breakfast, dinner…can have dosas anytime of the day…
@@HerbaceousSW Huh. I though idlis were the go-to breakfast in southern India.
@@John_Weiss either is gorgeous breakfast. (yes, I've also had dosa for lunch in a "dosa restaurant" once, but usually got them on the train, from the seller making them fresh on the platform in the middle of nowhere. the most comforting thing. but that was years ago... not sure how things are these days.
I need Paddy’s shirt. That is so cool 😂
Those guys having it with hands and chutney by their side with all dosas are the only real ones

Irish slang, for Irish tang.
