You linked to a video above titled "How I Grade/Convert/Export RAW Video" and did you use that process for this video? Or follow a different process? I ask because this seems quite different from other videos and I'm wondering if anything changed for you.
Hi Matt, appreciate it. Honestly, my grading changes in each shoot, depending on the scenes and overall feel I'm looking for. I barely graded this one, I guess the time of day and weather helped create the look. How I convert and export is definitely the same.
Zeek! This is super awesome. Both Editing and Cinematography standpoint. The only one thing - in some instances I do see Aliasing issue. But I think that is the limitation of the camera "EOS M" itself. Because I have seen many footages even with GH4 or other higher end DSLMs and Aliasing issue is difficult to avoid.
Aliasing is more so present I find in 5:3 Mode than 16:9 which would yield better results. Also, aliasing on the M2 is a little more than on the M. Thanks for the comment :)
Appreciate it! You can easily do the same. Just go out and shoot. Watch some films you like and see how they do things with camera angles etc.. and then emulate that in the field :)
Hi Master Zeek :) , best footage i've seen from an eos-m ! Image quality is gorgeous and the bokeh is really good on these little Nikon G lens ..Can i ask what are the benefits of the 5:3 ratio if there are any ? Thanks !
Thank you Werner! These are very nice lenses! The 5:3 has slightly more resolution 1736x1024 compared to 16:9 1736x976 and has higher mb/s (71mb/s compared to 63mb/s). So you get a little more detail and sharpness. It's not "drasric" but it's a cool test! I think there is more aliasing in 5:3 aspect ratio because of that extra resolution. Hey Zeek, my footage looks great in MLV app, but once it has been exported from Resolve it is very noisy/grainy and low quality. I have used your exact export setting from your tutorial video. Any tips?
Firtsly, ensure your exposure is correct when recording and that you're not under-exposing. Next, when grading your video, check the scopes to see you're not underexposed or crushing any shadow areas. I don't use Davinci so I'm not quite sure of your export settings or the rest.

Zeek good day, does the M2 and M version 1 have differences regarding video quality when using MCM Rewire?? Or only autofocus?? What does the M2's advantages compare to Mv.1?
Both are good. MCM rewire are the same on both, however the M2 can record 14 Bit RAW Uncompressed compared to lossless. Both still good though. M has 2.5K Mode not found on the M2. M2 has WiFi for photo transfer and better low light.
Hi Zeek, love your videos. I do not see a download option for the eos m2 on the magic lantern website. Am i mistaken? Just wanted to confirm that raw works on the m2 before I go out and buy one. Secondly, Is it possible to film in 1080p raw ? And does filming in 1080p instead of 2k effect the crop? Thanks in advance
Hi Nickk, download option is in the description of this video: ua-cam.com/video/mImjrVaA8YY/v-deo.html There is no extra crop in 1080 mode (1736x976) just the normal canon 1.61x crop. Canon EOS M2 doesn't record 2.5k (2.9x crop) only the EOS M.
Does this magic lantern 'hack' work with the EOS M10? Or just the EOS M? I was looking to buy the M but found out I had the M10 lying around, would love to be able to do something like this.
@@ZeekEOSZ ah man.. I wish this was possible for the EOS M10. Thanks for the reply Zeek. Your videos are amazing and makes me curious for the creation of cinematic video content.
Hi Zeek! You taught me a lot by watching your videos. I'm still learning the M2 that I got. I finally learned how to get the ML settings+running, now learning the MLV app. How to do the CA desaturate? I couldn't find it on MLV v1.9. Do I need to upgrade the app? On 14bit lossless, I could record continuously but on 14bit uncompressed, only 6secs then stops. I'm using the extreme pro v30 64gb 170mb/s. Did you use the Lexar on 14bit uncompressed? Thanks!
Glad to here! The CA Desature is towards the bottom of MLV App near the LUT Input area. It isn't in V1.9 it's in the NEW V1.10. With the M2 I use 14 bit uncompressed yes for only around 6 seconds. Lossless is fine and is continuous. Test them both and see if you can see a difference upon export from mLV App. Cheers! :)
Hi Zeek love your videos! Is it just me or is this M2 video almost more cinematic and filmic than your others with the original M? Maybe it’s just the lenses but it looks damn near amazing. Your eyes are more suited so tell me: should I get this M2 or the M if I want to use them for short films and other narrative work? Or is the secret sauce THE LENS that you used here? Thanks again man!
Cheers Matthew! The secret sauce here is probably the lens, considering the M and M2 look identical. Great lenses for sure, I don't have the 50mm f1.8G anymore, only the 35mm f1.8g. I'd go the M, as you have 2,5k, 3k raw crop modes as bonus, otherwise M2 is just as fine, and works better at times with monitors (less dropped frames).
Hi, you have a great video! Thank you for such detailed reviews of Canon M2. Please tell me what is the maximum length of each shot separately? And can you send the source files in the cloud so I can play around with them on color grading. Thank!
Files for download can be found here in the description: ua-cam.com/video/chtpBWMX1MY/v-deo.html You can shoot continuous RAW, but I only choose to shoot no more than 5 seconds each shot, saves time in post.
I always wondered the same thing until I finally got a GH5. They're different. For short films, narratives and pleasing skin tones, I'd go with magic lantern raw on the EOS M/M2 & 5D2. For concerts, live events, documentary, i'd go GH5 which is why i got it for these sought of stuff. Personally, I prefer the look of Magic Lantern RAW "any day", but the GH5 is amazing for the other B-Roll stuff I need to do. Maybe I could do a comparison sometime. I think they work well together :)
@@ZeekEOSZ sure, I'm interested in knowing if selling my EOS M is a good idea since I have an M100 wich I use also for video. basically the question is: Is the magic lantern video out of the M really comparable to the definition and quality of a much more expensive camera like a gh5 or a sony A7iii or Eos R?
@@haythamfpv In my opinion, the resolution of those cameras will no doubt top the resolution of the EOS M. However I would choose the EOS M if I had to travel over those cameras only because of RAW. So much color and depth to play with artistically. Sony is limited to 8-bit internal 4K. But still they're great options for different jobs. Depends on what you use them for. The 5D2 is a great full frame RAW option. Better than my GH5. But for concerts I'd use the GH5 because of the crop and IBIS. So again they're tools for different jobs. But definition wise 4K h.264 cameras will have the lead, but RAW will always look more pleasing.
@@ZeekEOSZ thank you for the precious information. One more thing, is RAW useful with the relatively small dynamic range of the eosM ? Usually raw footage comes from higher end cameras with better DRange, so is the eosm raw really comparable to another Raw? Or should we see the eos m just as a lower end raw that is better used for very specific shoots? Thank you
I'd say the dynamic range on the EOS M is above average, I feel it's the same as v-log on the GH5. The 5D2 on the other hand is a killer in terms of Dynamic Range. Feels top class, like an Arri. It's harder for highlights to clip so easily.
Hey Zeek, fantastic work. I wanted to know your thoughts on the eos m2’s dynamic range and colour rendition in comparison to the 5d mark ii from what I have noticed the eos m has a lot more balanced cinematic colours and in terms of dynamic range it looks like a really good highlight roll off where the 5d has a lot of its range in the shadows and less range in highlights and the colours rendered look like they are developed to appeal to the photographic community, would you disagree? working with raw on the two camera closely what would you rather make a film using?
Check this one with the Eos m, looks crazy good like vintage film: ua-cam.com/video/EulDugO-Rj4/v-deo.html I like the BMPCC and have owned it before, prices have now skyrocketed.

Great video as always. Thanks 👍
Thank you 😊👍
No new build ML from EOS m2 ? I sometimes think that I made a mistake by exchanging for m2 (
The one I use is in the description in this video. It works absolutely fine. I use the m2 to record myself raw it's amazing!
Hi Nickk, download option is in the description of this video:
ua-cam.com/video/mImjrVaA8YY/v-deo.html
There is no extra crop in 1080 mode (1736x976) just the normal canon 1.61x crop. Canon EOS M2 doesn't record 2.5k (2.9x crop) only the EOS M.
@@ZeekEOSZ Thanks. It it possible to record 1080p raw on the eos m aswell - if so what is the crop factor?
@@Nicolas-lv3pi
1080p is with no raw. EOS M records 1736x976 RAW and it looks much better than 1080p when upscaled in MLV App.
Man I found the m3 that has a body that I like better than the 1 & 2.
Do you think the ML works ??
I whish ML Worked on the M3 or even the M50. But only the M & M2 are currently supported.
Hi Zeek.
> Resolution: 1736x1024 [upscaled to 5K in MLV App]
The original resolution is closer to 1080p. What's the benefit of upscaling it to 5K?
how did you color correct tge street scenes , can you do a detailed tutorial for this specific video
Slog 3 to rec709
Does this magic lantern 'hack' work with the EOS M10? Or just the EOS M? I was looking to buy the M but found out I had the M10 lying around, would love to be able to do something like this.
Unfortunately it's only for the M and M2.
@@ZeekEOSZ ah man.. I wish this was possible for the EOS M10. Thanks for the reply Zeek. Your videos are amazing and makes me curious for the creation of cinematic video content.
Thanks a lot! Yeah, these cameras are fabulous at what they can do! Really remarkable.
looks great Zeek!
Thank you Rob! 👍
@ZeekEOSZ My second question is, have you tried ML on the 650D or 700D? Would you recommend either over the EOS M2?
The aliasing/moire seems to happen in random places. Any idea how to fix that? See 0:09 your beard, 2:43 the lower left pulpit, 4:07 the tram sign
Probably just 5:3 Mode or M2 behaviour. Don't get that much with 16:9. Also lenses are incredibly sharp.
This is amazing!
Thank you :)
eos M, eos M2, eos M5, M6.... What is the best with the magic lantern?
EOS M. Only the EOS M / M2 Can do ML.
Does EOS M with ML offer Zebras and focus peaking?
Yes it does! 👍
@@ZeekEOSZ but I wonder if 5d mark ii also offers focus peaking and zebra's, it's better to go with it isn't it?
@@milanjani
They're both good. 5D2 more dynamic range and has the full frame look. Yes it has zebras. All ML cameras do.
Hi, you have a great video! Thank you for such detailed reviews of Canon M2. Please tell me what is the maximum length of each shot separately? And can you send the source files in the cloud so I can play around with them on color grading. Thank!
Files for download can be found here in the description:
ua-cam.com/video/chtpBWMX1MY/v-deo.html
You can shoot continuous RAW, but I only choose to shoot no more than 5 seconds each shot, saves time in post.
you suprise me! can believe. i will go buy an eos m now
No worries 😎👍🎥
How does the video quality of the canon with magic lantern compare to the Gh5?
@@haythamfpv
In my opinion, the resolution of those cameras will no doubt top the resolution of the EOS M.
That's top footage Zeek 👌 I take it you'll ML the 5d
Thanks Tony! Resolution feels similar to the 5Dii. But the Dynamic Range and DOF on the 5Dii is remarkable! Best FF Cam for raw at its price point.
Zeek, which do you prefer when comparing eos m and eos m-2?
Thanks!
P. S.: does m2 have slow mo?
I prefer the EOS M because of the 2.5K RAW. The EOS M2 only has MCM Rewire mode 1736x976 and x3 crop.
I'm waiting for what this guy can do with a 5dm2 :D
Canon 5D ii is amazing. 📽👌 You'll see...
@@ZeekEOSZ ahhhh cant wait!
😊👍
Hi zeek in my opinion why m is better than m2 . I'v been watcing your m viseos is more gorgeous videos than m2 . Is it true? Are you agree?
did you use the 3x crop mode on the building shots?
Yep! :)
Wow 😍😍😍😍
😊👍
you better choose the bmpcc. looks more filmic. the eos m footage looks like a year 2000 consumer camcorder sometimes
Check this one with the Eos m, looks crazy good like vintage film:
ua-cam.com/video/EulDugO-Rj4/v-deo.html
I like the BMPCC and have owned it before, prices have now skyrocketed.
That's likely because you are watching footage from a stock EOS M in 8-bit compressed. This footage is using Magic Lantern to remove restrictions so its in 14-BIT uncompressed. The BMPCC
what denoiser do you use ?
how to upscale in mlv app?
Set the resolution in export settings to e.g. 3840x2160

Thank you :)
I just purchased an M2... hoping that installing ML will be painless lol
you're crazy man!
😎👍
@@ZeekEOSZ 5k raw on this so cheap and old device you will break the marker 😂😂
@@stephanes.
Haha sure 😝
We may be getting fixed live view (uncropped) for high resolution modes looking at the developments.
Once restrictions ease, I'll shoot more of these types of videos as I haven't been allowed to take the camera out beyond the house for 2 months or so now 👍
@@ZeekEOSZ incredible! almost a Red camera ahaha
@@stephanes.
It has potential. Only going to get better ;)
M50 magic lantern whts news ?
Slow progress, no developers. Hard code to crack. Get an M/M2 or 5D2. Amazing! 👍
I did not watch the whole thing but I think this footage would have benefitted from a lower shutter speed. I can sense a bit of stuttering due to lack of motion blur (i.e. too fast shutter speed).
Hi, can canon M3 récord raw?
Unfortunately not
